2023.06.08 23:13 girlimmamarryyou What advice would you give to your 17/18-year-old self?
Hi! I'm a senior in high school heading to university this fall and I eventually want to AmerExit. I'd like to know what y'all wish you could have told yourselves when you started the journey that is adulthood.
My current plan is to get a bachelor's in Spanish + a master's in management and study abroad a bunch during undergrad. I heard that Spain counts 50% of your time on a student visa toward permanent residency, so I'm considering doing NALCAP or becoming an au pair (I enjoy working with kids). I want to go for a Puerto Rican citizenship certificate in the hopes of being able to keep my US citizenship, even after becoming a Spanish citizen (since I'm my parents' only child, so access to the US is important). I'm also thinking about trying to get Mexican citizenship since I'm Mexican-American and I heard that getting Mexican residency is relatively easy for Americans. Are there any other English or Spanish-speaking countries I should consider?

2023.06.08 22:54 No-Purchase1081 Where can I find people to talk to?
I'm a bit down in the dumps these days, I don't really find joy in my work or home life. I'm seeing various medical professionals about this but to be honest sometimes what I really want is just someone to have a chat to. Not about my issues, just a random person to sit down and talk with because I don't really feel like I have that in my life.
I thought about attending a church because that seems like a potted community ready made for you. The only problem is I'm an atheist. Like I'm really certain about the God thing. Otherwise I think Church sounds amazing.
In tv programs the socially awkward protagonist is always a member of a weird Mahjong club or the local Puerto Rican community and plays chess with old men who dole out wisdom. I want that.
Where can I find people who I can just sit and have a chat with?
I'm 38m if that's relevant though I'm not too worried about matched age.

2023.06.08 21:52 themightydudehtx Family of 5 - WDW Trip May 25 - June 4'th report
Background:
We are a family of 5 with my wife and I, along with my 7 yr old and 6yr old daughters and then my 3 yr old boy. They have been to disneyland before, but I'm not sure if they really remember it as it was 3-4 years ago, and my son wasn't even around. We did go to AK 2 years ago as we were in tampa staying on the beach for vacation when hurricane elsa was coming, so we made a quick 2 night escapae to disney world and were able to get a park reservation for AK for 1 day. I'm not really counting that though as their first trip to WDW. In my mind this is their first trip as we got to do everything
Travel:
We skipped out on the last day of school on May 26'th for my kids and caught a 11 am flight that morning out of Houston and got to Orlando around 1:45 PM or so. I surprised the kids with a limo for the ride to the hotel (they've been begging to ride in one for quite a while so figured why not for this special trip).
Hotel:
For this trip we decided on staying at Caribbean Beach Resort. We got a preferred room w/5th sleeper. I was using touring plans for this trip to help with the plans / hotel requests and what not and had requested a room in barbados closer to the main road that runs by the sky liner. That room request was sent in, but unfortunately we did not get that request. Instead we were put in Martinique which ended up being roughly a 8 minute walk to the Riviera skyliner station or 10-13 minute walk to the CBR skyliner station. Overall it wasn't bad, but I really wish I could of gotten that barbados request as it would of put us within a few minutes walk of the CBR skyliner station and still been relatively close to the main area of the resort. Overall though I was fine with the room. It was what I had booked and the bonus was the beds were the ones that had the space underneath them for the luggage. I had read / watched videos that said some of the CBR beds had the old style bed frames where you could not put your luggage under the bed and with us having 5 bags, that was going to make it tight in the room. So with being able to store the bags under the bed was very nice to have.
My thoughts on this resort is that it is nice and still in the process of being refurbished, but I had 0 complaints here. Skyliner is a big plus here, and I recommend getting close as you can to the CBR skyliner station for the convenience of getting to Epcot and Hollywood studios. If you get on the skyliner at the CBR station you do not have to get off the skyliner when it hits the riviera station. However, if you get on the Riviera skyliner and go to hollywood studios, you will have to get off at the CBR station then back on, so this could delay you getting to HS if you were trying to rope drop. With that being said we did this both ways and never had an issue.
Food at CBR was just fine. Quick service had some decent options for food besides your standard chicken strips / pizza. My personal favorite option they had was a pork carnitas with rice/black beans.
Parks:
Out of our 10 vacation days we had a total of 6 park days. Originally it was just 5 park days, but it was only like an extra $150 or so to add a extra day so we took that for a total of 6 days. Our schedule looked like this:
Thursday May 25: travel day
Friday May 26: HS/Epcot
Saturday May 27: MK
Sunday May 28: Epcot
Monday May 29: Rest Day
Tuesday May 30: AK
Wed May 31: HS
Thursday June 1: Rest Day
Friday June 2: MK
Saturday June 3: Rest Day
Sunday June 4: travel day
I was going to into more detail on all the days, but realized this was going to be a crazy long post. So instead I will just summarize.
We rope dropped all 6 days and 5 of the days we stayed till closing time.
We bought genie plus for all 6 days. We also did virtual queue and ILL to ride Tron twice. Amazing ride..highly recommend it. We did an ILL for guardians..again an awesome ride and highly recommend it.
We were able to hit every ride we wanted with minimal wait times due to the lightning lanes. I think the longest wait we had was 10-15 minutes. The Genie plus + ILL + Rope dropping made it easy hit the most popular rides in each park in the first couple of hours. I realize it's not feasible for everyone to get genie plus every day, but I had budgeted for it and I wasn't looking forward to waiting in line for an hour on some rides with my 3 kids.
We did Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for my 3 kids on our second day @ MK. The girls absolutely loved getting dressed up(we brought dresses my wife and bought) and having their hair / makeup done. We did the prince package for my 3 yr old and he was super excited to get his sword and shield. Awesome experience here for them.
My main disappointment was it seemed that most of the star wars stuff was in B mode and that was with a morning ride. For example doing RoR around 9:30 AM, There was no bb8, no rey, and Kylo was B mode. Then doing Smugglers Run, there was no hondo. Thankfully the second day we were at HS, we had BB8 / Rey and Hondo back on smugglers, but Kylo was still B mode, and again that second day was in the morning.
Food:
We did the following table service restaurants
Chef Mickeys:
Topolinos Terrace
Yak and yeti
Boathouse (disney springs)
Boathouse was a great start to our trip. That was dinner for us on arrival day.
Chef Mickeys was ok..nothing great, standard buffet food, but of course we are there for the characters.
Topolinos was probably my favorite plus the view was awesome.
Yak and yeti was good, plus sitting down in the shade and air conditioning was very welcome after walking around AK for a few hours.
Overall thoughts: I thought the parks were going to be busier than they were over memorial day weekend, but it seems we lucked out.
We 100% lucked out with the weather with only a day or 2 barely in the 90's. Most of the days were the 80s' which is definitely tolerable. We also managed to avoid any crazy rain showers while at the park. We got a little rain here and there but nothing that soaked us.
We used the Disney Minnie Vans a few times, and these things were awesome. We used them a couple times to get to the parks in the morning. Was nice to just book one and know we had 10, 15 minutes till it showed up. We actually made it to MK one day before the buses for opening and were there before security even opened up to let us through. Super convenient, but a little pricey. From CBR to the parks I think we averaged around $30-$40 one way with them.
Overall we had a great time. The kids did great as we only brought a stroller for the 3 yr old, the 6 and 7 yr old we had walk and they chugged along just fine with us. Albeit at the end of the night there were many requests to "hold me", but overall they did awesome. We did generally go back to the hotel room for 2-3 hours each day. The only park did we did not do that was at Animal Kingdom

2023.06.08 16:46 mattiasflgrtll6 Christopher vs. Chasing It: Which one is better?
These are commonly cited as the most unpopular episodes of the series, and maybe the only ones you see a fairly consistent dislike for. But is one of them possibly a hidden gem?
I like both. Christopher isn't among my favorites, it doesn't contain the most character insight or a whole lot of dramatic tension, but the satirical nature and silly squabbles of the story are still engaging and entertaining to watch. We even get the iconic "Gary Cooper" speech, someone Tony seems to respect more than anyone he knows.
The message has aged very well too, how acting ignorant towards other cultures or ignoring the kind of history we don't like can turn us into hateful, petty individuals. You know a conflict is silly when West and South Italians argue who's better than the other.
Meanwhile, Chasing It is sort of deceptively filler. It's gotten criticism for the Tony gambling arc, but this is something that did get set up in the previous season and we also saw more hints of in Remember When. If it had come completely out of nowhere I would understand that point more.
Tony succumbing to the dangerous highs of gambling is also interesting because not only did he beat the shit out of an old friend back in season 2 who got addicted to gambling, but it makes him even more of a hypocrite to make fun of Christopher regularly over his soberism when he struggles with an addiction himself.
The fight between Tony and Carmela is fantastic! We haven't seen them lose their shit over each other like this since Whitecaps (Which probably remains the most intense of the bunch), and the acting as well as dialogue deserves the highest amount of praise. The scariest part is that Tony doesn't have justifiable motivation for getting mad at her. He literally won the race, just got as much as he wanted to. Carmela was also right to be sceptical given how much more often he has lost at betting. So to see him flip out at her this badly over something that's 100% his own doing is absolutely bone-chilling and selfish, though Carm is the one who tries to hit him with an object from a distance.
Then we witness him losing one of his closest friends as he very begrudgingly pays back part of the debt very little at a time, going so far as to mock Hesh over his Jewish heritage.
Only once Hesh's wife dies out of the blue does Tony seem to feel remorse and pays him back the entire debt. But the damage is already done...
I enjoy the Vito Jr. storyline too, which contains one of the all-time funniest lines from Phil ("You look like a Puerto Rican prostitute"). The kid is bratty, but there's a level of tragedy as well since he's simply lashing out over losing his dad and being humiliated by others that he was gay. The conclusion with him being forced off to boot camp is incredibly sad and disturbing.
Finally, A.J. tries to salvage the relationship with Blanca by proposing to her during dinner. She accepts it without really thinking it through. And what do you know, in the next scene between them she coldly gives him his clothes and returns the ring as well. That has to be one of the coldest break-ups I've ever seen onscreen. A.J. might have been over his head hooking up with an older woman with two kids and even preparing for marriage, but that's no reason for her meanspirited and uncaring behavior towards him. This scene alone makes her one of the most unlikable characters in the series.
My personal pick is Chasing It.

2023.06.08 16:04 madchad90 Travel card recommendation: Does it make sense for Fiancee and I to have two separate travel cards?
Capital One SaverOne: $20k limit, opened Oct 2022
Captial One quicksilver: $8k limit, opened > 10 years
Chase Freedom: $18,900 limit, opened > 1 year
Citi Custom Cash: $8k limit, opened Jan 2023
FICO Score: 750
Oldest account age: > 10 years
Chase 5/24 status: 0/24
Income: e.g. $80,000
Average monthly spend and categories:
dining $90
groceries: $400
gas: $90
miscellaneous: $200
Open to Business Cards: No
What's the purpose of your next card? Travel
Do you have any cards you've been looking at? Yes, Citi Premier
Are you OK with category spending or do you want a general spending card? Yes
*Created similar post previously, deleted and made new post based on recommendations to include additional details and template.
So my fiancee and I have been discussing adding a travel card(s) to our card portfolio as we are planning on taking more trips throughout the year.
My fiancee has a FICO score of 720, and no credit cards other than some store ones that were opened years ago and don't get used (she uses a debit card for her everyday purchases, so she was interested in getting a CC for the protection and rewards). We also keep our general spending accounts/money in our own individual accounts.
Our main travel plans mostly include a week long trip to disney world once a year, occasional shorrter trips throughout the year to universal orlando (as we are annual passholders), and occasional flights to visit my family who live out of state
Researching travel cards, I narrowed it down to two: Citi Premier (their "Thank you" points are applicable towards Disney/Universal resort hotels) and Chase Sapphire Preferred (for transfer ability to partner hotel/airlines).
I was wondering if the setup below makes sense as far as us gaining rewards and using them towards our travel plans, essentially applying the Citi Premier card towards our hotel stays, and the Chase Sapphire towards airline tickets/other travel benefits:
Setup for myself:
- Citi Premier (new card, would become grocery, restaurant, travel card)
- Citi Custom Cash (already have, use as gas card, transfer points to Premier)
- Citi Double Cash (new card, use for any non-category purchases, transfer points to premier)
Setup for Fiancée:
- Chase Sapphire Preferred (new card, used for travel category spends, dining, streaming)
- Chase Freedom Unlimited (new card, non- category spends, transfer points to Sapphire Preferred)
Just wondering if the above setup makes sense, or if we would it make more sense getting one travel card (such as the Premier) and having both of us be authorized users of that card to rack up points. I feel like we wouldn't be maximizing point value for our uses (since again, Citi is the only one that is redeemable for Disney Resorts, and Sapphire Preferred gives more points for travel booked through Chase)

Hey Amiga,
I hope you’re doing well. I know you had quite the bit of hope for a big W the last few times we talked.
I want to let you know I am still rooting for you. I miss you and I think of you often.
I hope your mom, and your calico cat is doing well also.
I visited parts of Arizona recently you explored, and wondered what your experience was truly like.
You disappeared into thin air, but I have a feeling you’re doing okay. You helped me get through so much, and I have you to thank for helping me get out of a deep pit of despair. Keep fighting the good fight.
Much love,
Your not so Puerto Rican Amigo.

2023.06.08 07:04 Glittering_Sense_489 I know it's a long read, but I need help understanding this girl
For context, me (20) and this girl (18) have been friends for almost 2 years. We were both born in Puerto Rico, but my parents are Argentinean. We met through my dad being friends with her mom. My dad owns a workshop and when I help him in his place I go to eat lunch in a restaurant where the girl's mom is the owner. I've known her mom way before I met her. One day the mom sent her to work with us, since the girl likes cars. After this day she would work with us most saturdays. She hasn't become an actual employee, but has asked me if we have a secretary, which could mean that shes interested in becoming a employee. That's how I met her.
Shortly after meeting I received a follow request from random account that at the time I thought it was a bot, so I accepted the follow request to increase my followers. I had this app on my phone that monitors who goes on my Instagram profile and this account was on the list for months. About 6 months later I noticed that it was her but in a alt account after she posted a question of somebody asking her if she had a finsta. Then after realizing it was her I started following the account. Shortly after this I returned from a European vacation and gifted her a miniature eiffel tower keychain. This was all in the same day. The same day I noticed that she unfollowed me on that account. A month later the following conversation occurred:
Me: hey, I noticed that you unfollowed me on instagram Girl: but I follow on my finsta Me: no you don't Girl: checks instagram what's your username? Girl: I'll do it later at home.
Basically ignored the question
July 10 2022 We were on our to eat lunch at her mother's restaurant and I mentioned that last was my birthday just to let her know. This conversation followed:
Me: hey last week I turned 20. Girl: what? Why didn't you call to let me know? Me: I just didn't want to bother you Girl: You wouldn't be bothering me
The same day this conversation occurred: Girl: you know Jowell y Randy (puertorican rapper duo) Me: Yeah. Why? Girl: My cousin is friends with Jowell's son. I want to be the son's girlfriend. Me: Alright cool Why would she tell me this? To make me jealous? Why would she want to be with a guy she's never met? Confuses me.
Another day, I came in to work in a barcelona soccer shirt and complimented me saying that she likes my shirt. The following conversation followed:
Girl: I like your shirt Me: Thanks 1 minute passes Girl: I like your shirt Me: You already said that, but thanks again Girl: nervous smile
January 3 2023 The day before, at night, my dad called her and asked her if she could help us at the workshop. Had been about a month since I've seen her. The same night she posted her first bikini pic to her instagram. On this day (last time I saw her) she asked if I played playstation. I said yes and gave her my username and she friend requested me and added as a close friend (which shows real name on profile). We talked about games we have in common and she told me that she plays warzone alot and if i could play with her. I told her that im not good at that game, but she told me that it didnt matter and that she would teach me and help me improve. The same day the following conversation occurred: we were talking about being a introvert or extrovert.
Translated from Spanish Me: you talk to much Girl: well I'm actually a introvert Me: Seriously?! (sarcasm) Girl: (understanding the sarcasm) yeah but with you I'm a extrovert (smiles).
(Sounds way better in spanish, but my rough translation will do)
The following days, I would send her invitations to play on playstation, but everytime she would ignore them.
January 10 2023 She posted sendit to her snapchat asking for questions. People asked her the following.
whos ur crush?
Her: I dont think of him as a crush but I think he's cute
who do u like?
Her: I don't like anyone but there is a guy and I think he is cute :)
It can be about someone else but noone will ever know.
February 13 2023 This day she sent me a snap with a photo asking me if I wanted to do streaks, I said yes and stated that I haven't done streaks in a long time. I didn't receive any text back and later I sent a snap to start the streak. Three days later she hasn't opened the snap I sent.
February 17 2023 This day she asked me again for streaks, after ignoring me when she first asked. She did the exact same thing she did the first time.
The last two months, I've been going through a stressful family issue including my parents divorce progress and I haven't seen or talked to her in 3 months and probably not going to see her this summer since I don't talk to my dad anymore, which is the only way I see her.
June 8 2023 Its now been 5 months since I've seen her. About week ago, she privated her instagram, hasn't played playstation in a week and hasn't posted on bereal for a week. She also hasn't posted anything on snapchat for atleast 2 weeks.

2023.06.07 23:54 Affectionate_Owl6288 Ponce?!
Hola, lo siento pero no hablo Espanol so good.
I just visited Ponce for the first time, have been to San Juan several times and driven around but never up into Ponce.
It is the most beautiful city in the Caribbean- architecturally- I’ve ever been to. It has a larger area of truly special and beautiful buildings, civic spaces, infrastructure, parks, etc. than I ever could have dreamed- and almost all of it abandoned/ overgrown. There are wild dogs everywhere, not many people in the historic area.
What happened? What do you (Puerto Ricans) think about Ponce? Will Ponce ever be the city it once was, and if so how does it get back there?
It felt like discovering Atlantis. I have never been so surprised by a place.
Anyone who saw a tall gringo wandering around all evening last night or talked to me in the bars- that was me.
