Hello! I recently switched from Windows 11 to Linux Mint Cinnamon and so far I've had far fewer problems with it compared to Windows. The only frustration has been the software support. Most incompatible software I've managed to get working or find replacements for, but Davinci Resolve is the last one I need and I can't seem to find a solution to the exact problem I'm having.
For context, I'm using an RTX 3060 video card with the most recent driver available in the Driver Manager (nvidia-driver-525). I also have multimedia codecs installed (during initial installation). All software is up to date according to Update Manager.
I don't fully understand how different Linux distributions work, but apparently, Davinci Resolve is not compatible with Debian (and by extension Ubuntu and Mint). Thankfully, someone's written a script (and accompanying tutorial) to convert Resolve into a *.deb package: https://www.danieltufvesson.com/makeresolvedeb
I was able to follow the guide to install Resolve successfully and it appears in the application menu. For some reason, it cannot be launched by running the application, but for some reason, it can be started via a script in the terminal (sudo /opt/resolve/bin/resolve). Could it have something to do with requiring a password when running the script? Being able to launch it from the application menu would be convenient, but not necessary if that's unrealistic.
Once I actually have Resolve open, there are no problems navigating the UI and I can even create Fusion Compositions in the Fusion Editor, but importing media is completely broken. MKV files (exported by OBS encoded as H.264) don't even appear in the media pool. I think I saw something about MOV files working, so I tried converting them to Quicktime MOV using WinFF (an FFMPEG GUI interface). They can be imported, but when dragging it into the timeline, there is no video track and the lone audio track (there are supposed to be six) is completely silent.
I saw something about drivers but again, I have the latest one from the Driver Manager installed.
What can I do to make Davinci Resolve functional? Ideally, it would work exactly as on Windows, but even having to convert every video file would be acceptable as long as it works.
Although I would like to use Resolve, if it's not worth the effort to fix it, I'm not going to be terribly attached to Resolve and I can switch to a different editor, especially if just works better and offers similar features.

Hi everyone, currently using a throwaway. I am a frequent lurker on this sub & have gotten so many great tips and suggestions from other parents. I am currently in a predicament and looking for some advice on how to proceed… Sorry in advance for all of the abbreviations and the extremely long novel; there is a LOT of context behind the current situation that I’d like for you all to consider!
So SIL— my husband’s older sister but I consider her my own sister and am very close to her— was recently let go from her full time remote position. She has found a new full time job, this time in person, that is M-F 8:30-5 and starts relatively soon. She has 2 children: niece 1F, and nephew 10M.
Since both she and and her husband (BIL) would be working full time, naturally the question of childcare came up for the days both would be working. She informed me that her MIL (BIL’s mother, who lives 1 hour away) would be meeting SIL approx. halfway to do a drop off and watch niece for the full shift, then do the same thing for pick up… This is a lot of driving/gas/time spent for everyone involved (and they have tried doing the full commute before so I know how hard it is, even split in half).
I currently stay at home with my only daughter 2F. This was always the plan with my husband until my daughter is old enough to go to pre-k/kindergarten. He makes a decent income to cover all of our bills and have a little bit left in the bank after too.
I have offered to watch niece part time at 1-2 days max per week, split between the MIL watching niece 1-2 days per week that both parents are working. (Please note that SIL did not ask me directly; I have offered to watch her as I feel bad for everyone and really do not want her to spend so much time in a car seat shuttling from place to place every week… I also know SIL has a slightly strained relationship with her MIL so I am trying my best to alleviate some of the stress on SIL shoulders as well since they clash on a lot of different things [especially respecting boundaries and SIL wishes]. And SIL has offered to pay me a fair rate as well, I would not do all this for free.)
The main question is, what is the fair price for this service? It would be 1-2 full days of childcare. According to her, a local daycare is asking $450 per week in the area which seems like a lot but I am not well versed on numbers or hours/unsure if it is in home or a typical daycare center or not… The biggest difference is that I know the level of care I will provide, as her aunt, is infinitely much better over a daycare… I would be providing her plenty of one on one time, meaningful play, home cooked food & snacks, and she gets a perk of spending quality time with my toddler as well.
Logistically I would be watching niece from what looks like between 8-5:30 or so. Luckily she is a pretty easy baby and is not too fussy or difficult (unlike my feral toddler lol). I would also be responsible for nephew (10M) for a short amount of time once he comes home from school, until one of his parents gets home. He is a mostly independent kid.
There are sooooo many factors overall but the main thing is that I do not want this to strain our current relationship as we do have different parenting styles plus she is returning to work out of necessity and I want to respect that, not to mention the financial aspect of it all also.
(The backstory is SIL, her husband, and 2 kids moved in with us to save money to pay off their debts and save for a house. They originally moved in with MIL living 1 hour away from the city last summer, commuting to the city for work/appointments 2 hours a day… That was not feasible long term with 2 kids, especially in our winter climate, and so my husband and I offered for them to move into our house that we had just bought, with us. They have 2 rooms out of the 3 and we share all other spaces, without charging them rent. We did this knowing they would do the same for us, if the roles were reversed. They moved in with us last August right before nephew started school & claimed to only need to stay with us 15 months or so optimistically, to do all of the paying off/saving… I do not know the current timeline or where they stand right now.)
The question of finances is hard as I am not sure what a decent wage is for this type of situation, and inflation has not helped at all… My husband and I have a joint account. We do still have a few small amounts we need to pay off and since inflation is kicking us in the ass as well, I’d ideally LOVE to be able to have my own source income to contribute as I do not have the time or ability to work part time or remote currently… We currently pay our mortgage in full. As I have stated before, we do not currently charge them any rent. They split other utilities such as groceries, internet, power, water, etc pretty much 50/50 each month. As the SAHM I do majority of the cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, bills maintenance, etc and everyone chips in where they can and alternates occasionally.
With this new job, they will both be in a slightly better financial spot than us, as my husband’s decent income goes towards the 3 of us plus mortgage and half of bills. I suppose I have a few questions:

1. What is a fair rate to charge per hour or day? I do not want to undervalue my worth as I know I will take care of both children as best as I can, but also do not want to overcharge as that would mean they wouldn’t save as much per month/live with us longer (which I know no one wants, we all want them to get a house and I know we all want our own space lol).
2. How do I ensure that I am not being taken advantage of? What should I ask for in return, as I would be taking care of 2 children while the other adults work full time? My loss of time & freedom are mostly at risk here, since I originally only agreed to stay at home with my one & only toddler and she is starting to get to the independent age now, unlike my niece who is still learning how to walk and such. (I am also unsure of our own future, but we are most likely OAD unless our situation or fortune changes drastically.)

If anyone has any advice on all of this please let me know— literally anything is welcome at this point.

That scene doesn't work.. 20 minutes into a movie that's not about podracing.

So Qui-Gon manages to pull off the most convoluted bet ever, and somehow wins everything except for Anakin's mother.
Even at the end of the movie when they save the day and probably could get the cash to buy the mom from Watto - they don't go back for ten years.

So - what's going on here?
In one quote, he says "they save the day (at the end of Ep1)", and then in another he says they don't save the day - in contrast to the heroes at the end of EP4 who do save the day.
This is of course a direct self-contradiction;
and between two excerpts that are both talking about Anakin on Tatooine, in the context of the podrace, no less.

So instead of joining the dramatic high-stakes cause of freeing the slaves, Anakin instead joins the undramatic low-stakes cause of settling a tax dispute,
quickly and easily fixing his pod in an undramatic low-stakes fashion, reflecting the undramatic low-stakes nature of said tax dispute where they don't save the day, that is contrasted with the dramatic high-stakes Ep4 ending where they do save the day, and then forgets to return to pick his mom up after saving the day with the tax dispute?

But the real thrust of this scene is, this is when the stakes are really raised - insteada just a giant floating ball in space, we are now shown that the Death Star is capable of blowing up whole planets; and our ragtag group o' heroes are the only ones that can stop it...
Tension, stakes, a ticking clock!; heroism, and adventure - it's what makes Star Wars great.
Much like the Phantom Menace - when the Gungans fight the Robots to help Queen Amidala find the Viceroy, so that she doesn't have to sign a treaty to make the non-violent invasion legal in the courts...
[crickets...] Uhmm.. [..........]

Now it's an "invasion" instead of a "tax dispute", however a "non-violent" one - hence still low-stakes.

In fact I haven't even seen any Naboo citizen at all - as far as I know it's a city with 20 or so pilots, a couple of bureaucrats and officials.

Now there's talk of "people dying" all of a sudden - how "non-violent" was this invasion tax dispute again?

Why are they dying? I guess they're dying though... But I didn't see anyone die?

"I guess x is happening" = treating it as an uncertainty (although arguably also some indifference);
the fact that it isn't shown is presented as a reason for doubting that it's happening (although it could also be referring to presentation - implying that not showing it leads to indifference:

"why" is literally inquiring about the reasons and causes behind it, but really it also kinda means "why am I supposed to believe that it's happening".
Clearly along with lines like this:

, Plinkett isn't making any moves to go through the movie and analyze the information - instead he's just comically trying to piece together his foggy memories of the plot, while channeling confusion and indifference.
A more proper look at this, one that the review probably should've taken, potentially reveals the source of this uncertainty and confusion:

"How will you explain this invasion to the Senate?"
"The Queen and I will sign a treaty that will legitimize our occupation here - I have assurances it will be ratified by the Senate."
"I will not cooperate."
"Now, now, Your Highness - in time, the suffering of your people will persuade you to see our point of view.
Commander." "Yes, sir." "Process them." "Captain - take them to Camp 4."

Makes what can be called a "credible threat" about doing something to the people.

"Your Highness, under the circumstances, I suggest you come to Coruscant with us."
"Thank you, Ambassador - but my place is with my people."
"They will kill you if you stay."
Sio Bibble: "They wouldn't dare!"
Panaka: "They need her to sign a treaty to make this invasion of theirs legal, they can't afford to kill her!"
"There is something else behind all this, your Highness - there's no logic in the Federation's move here. My feelings tell me they will destroy you."

Here the psychic Jedi senses some lethal intentions on their part, probably making the earlier threats even more credible;
of course Panaka already thinks they're capable of murder - and seconds earlier, Qui-Gon's retort was probably meant to be understood as "they tried to kill us instead":

"Your negotiations seem to have failed, Ambassador."
"The negotiations never took place. It's urgent that we make contact with the Republic."

Either way, now there's a credible threat of "suffering" against the population, and a credible danger of them killing the Queen.

Number 8: I'm gonna slit my wrists
[Sigh...] It's hard to stomach any more of this shit - I still don't know who the main character is and why we should care about any of this.
At around this point in the original Star Wars movie, we've been with Luke almost the whole time getting to know him.
We see his plight;
his hopes and dreams...
we feel his frustration...
and then his sadness...
The slow build-up added depth, and emotion; and anticipation for the story to expand.
In the Phantom Menace we have nothing - we've a monotone queen, who's hiding from signing a treaty that's supposed to do something.
Why in fuck's name should we care at all.. I don't care about any of these characters?

What is the treaty supposed to do again?

Number 6: Invasion! Of Boring…
So what exactly is the purpose of this invasion?
It's almost like after Lucas wrote the invasion scenes, he didn't.. really know what to do next? - so he thought he'd make the Queen have to sign a treaty, to make the invasion legal; I mean, why not?

The guys that want this treaty signed (whatever it's about) threaten her with making the people "suffer" - and the content of this treaty is that this faction that threatens the population with suffering while invading, arresting and keeping them as hostages, will get to "legally" stay there with no one doing anything about it.
The stakes of fending these invaders off vs. succumbing to them already seem quite high - and Plinkett is obviously going out of his way to downplay it all (if he's remembering it to begin with, at that moment):

One might wonder how he managed to miss or forget this; a look at the part where he covers the threat scene, reveals a few things:

Invasion! Of Boring...
Inside the city, Queen Aminalan has been captured by the green guys; but instead of forcing her to sign the treaty right then and there - or keeping her locked up inside the big capital building under heavy guard - they inexplicably send her away from them. ["I will not cooperate." "Now, now, Your Highness - in time, the suffering of your people will persuade you to see our point of view."]
"Commander." "Yes, sir?" "Process them..."
Remember - this is the most important person in their whole plan - and they send her to be... "processed"?, in some place called "Camp 4".
Droid: "Captain - take them to Camp 4."
Ohh; but at least they remember to send her with a whopping 8 battle droids to protect her from the 2 Jedis that they just discussed they had not found yet.
"You didn't tell him about the missing Jedi..." "No need to report that to him, until we have something to report."
But don't worry - these battle droids have proven very effective against Jedi Knights.

So there are 2 alternative options that Plinkett is suggesting the green guys should've gone with, instead of "sending them to Camp 4":
a) "Forcing her to sign the treaty right then and there" - this is of course in the very scene where they're expressing the threat against her population if she doesn't sign it.
While it's possible to speculate about what other more direct forms of force or coercion they could've applied there to accomplish it "right then and there", these pseudo-euphemistic threats against the population are the method of coercion they're going with here, and it's not clear whether Plinkett is even aware of this at all.
b) "Keeping her locked up in the Palace instead of sending them away, where the 2 Jedi could jump in."
This is correct - however his focus on just this one aspect of this scene causes him to talk over the part where Gunray is verbalizing his threat, and only turn on the sound right after, when Nute moves to the "Camp 4" part:

they inexplicably send her away from them. ["I will not cooperate." "Now, now, Your Highness - in time, the suffering of your people will persuade you to see our point of view."]
"Commander." "Yes, sir?" "Process them..."

So now as a result, Plinkett is talking over the part where Nute is issuing his threat to the Queen, saying how they should force the Queen to sign the treaty "right then and there"...
And, this of course also facilitates the massive downplaying of this situation later in the review:

Now they escape the planet instead of "cooperating", so the possibility arises that the Trade Federation might repeat their threats a bit more emphatically, or even start making them real in order to exact pressure:

"The death toll is catastrophic... We must bow to their wishes! You must contact me!"
"It's a trick. Send no reply - send no transmissions of any kind."
"It sounds like bait to establish a connection trace."
"What if it is true - and the people are dying?"
"Either way, we're running out of time."

So now it sounds like they're making it real - "catastrophic death tolls".
Going a step further however, instead of merely exacting that pressure, they're also trying to trace them in case they merely decide to just reply at first - even if they refused to "bow to their wishes" at first, they'd already betray their location.
The "bait" conclusion is stated with a high level of certainty here - and is in fact immediately confirmed to be real, even if the details of it seem inconsistent and confusing (since the ship didn't reply, but Darth Maul still has a trace?):

"Tatooine is sparsely populated - if the trace was correct, I will find them quickly, Master."

However the possibility that the assertion about the "death tolls" might still be true, is left up in the air - the Jedi / Queen don't know, and the audience isn't clued in either.
That is until they've left Tatooine for Coruscant, where it's then also confirmed as true:

"Your Queen is lost, your people are starving... and you, Governor, are going to die much sooner than your people I'm afraid..."
"This invasion will gain you nothing! We're a democracy - the people have decided!"
"Take him away."

However upon a closer look, 2 factors still cause a certain amount of doubt, or uncertainty:
1) Technically the only thing that's confirmed here is that Bibble hadn't been made to lie, and in fact does believe that "the people are starving" (or at least isn't shown doubting it)- however he's shown to be alone with Gunray and some of his droids in what looks like an empty part of the palace; if this is representative of his general situation, and he's being kept here isolated while being told about mass starvation, how is it a certainty that he's not being lied to as well?
Perhaps the movie isn't thinking that far, and considers the confirmation that he was being honest and hadn't been performing under pressure or threats, as an automatic confirmation that it's all true - however it's not clear.
2) "The people have decided"? This makes it sound as if the pressure is being applied to the population itself, to presumably accept the Trade Federation as their new rulers - as opposed to the Queen or even him or any of the other remaining officials to "sign the treaty".
So some kind of different thing seems to be going on here, and this casts doubts on whether this scene even takes place in the same continuity, or might be from a different script version.
However, the very next scene it cuts back to the ship, and Padme is replaying a recording of his message (not having seen it herself while on Tatooine) - and, with no thoughts given to it having been a confirmed trick, and possibly untrue, seems to believe it without question:

"The death toll is catastrophic! We must bow to their wishes! You must contact me!"
"You all right?"
"It's very cold."
"You come from a warm planet, Ani - a little too warm for my taste. Space is cold."
"You seem sad..."
"The Queen is worried - her people are suffering, dying...
She must convince the Senate to intervene, or... I'm not sure what'll happen."

It seems like the moment it's "confimed" to the audience via a villain cut-away, the protagonists now automatically start treating it as true as well.

This continues into this later scene:

"The Courts take even longer to decide things than the Senate! Our people are dying, Senator - we must do something quickly to stop the Federation!"
"To be realistic, Your Majesty... I think we're going to have to accept Federation control for the time being."
"That is something I cannot do."

Later in the Senate session, even before anyone mentions anything about death tolls, the very notion of the invasion is already placed under doubt:

"Honourable representatives of the Republic - I come to you under the gravest of circumstances. The Naboo system has been invaded by the droid armies of the Trade-"
"I object! There is no proof! This is incredible... We recommend a commission be sent to Naboo to ascertain the truth!"
"The Congress of Malastare concurs with the honourable delegate from the Trade Federation - a commission must be appointed!"
"The point..."
Mas Amedda: "Excuse me, Chancellor."
"Enter the bureaucrats - the true rulers of the Republic; and on the payroll of the Trade Federation, I might add. This is where Chancellor Valorum's strength will disappear."
"The point is conceded. Will you defer your motion to allow a commission to explore the validity of your accusations?"

Initially by bad actors, of course - and Valorum seems to be under pressure to act like he's sharing or at least respecting these doubts:

Number 3: Death and Space Taxes
At the end of the movie, Amidalen goes back to the planet to solve the problem herself - cause the Senate wanted to send an independent team to investigate whether or not the invasion was real.
"Will you defer your motion to allow a commission to explore the validity of your accusations?"
I guess the testimony of two Jedi Knights wasn't good enough; [Qui-Gon talking to Valorum on the Coruscant platform] those were the guys that Valorum trusted enough to settle the whole dispute in the first place? That don't make sense?..

However the Malastare speaker may or may not be genuine, and generally the Senate is not presented with any additional proof for these allegations;
could the Jedi have been used as witnesses, given how they had been sent in "secret" to begin with?

"the Supreme Chancellor has secretly dispatched two Jedi Knights, the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy, to settle the conflict...."

Given how backed into the corner the Valorum is,

"Chancellor Valorum seems to think there is hope?" "If I may say so, Your Majesty, the Chancellor has little real power - he is mired by baseless accusations of corruption; the bureaucrats are in charge now."

probably not.
Then, after all the preceding interruptions, Amidala finally brings up the deathtolls - stating it as fact (even though she has no reason to be certain, unlike the invasion and "attack on sovereignty" itself):

"I will not defer - I've come before you to resolve this attack on our sovereignty NOW. I was not elected to watch my people suffer and die, while you discuss this invasion in a committee!"

Proof or reason aside, the room is instantly won over and apparently has no doubts left.

"Yousa tinking yousa people ganna die?"
"I don't know..."
"Gungans get pasted too, eh?"
"I hope not."

In this scene it's not clear whether Jar Jar is just getting things wrong and she's merely humoring him, or whether this talk about "gonna die" (as opposed to already dying in the present - does this mean he's asking if they're all gonna eventually die?) and her uncertain response ("don't know whether they'll all die before they can intervene"?) are rather, again, from yet another alternate continuity / script version,
where the Neimoidians haven't yet started claiming to be already causing death tolls, but are rather threatening that they'll genocide them all if their demands aren't met - and that Amidala doesn't really know if that's gonna happen or not, if they'll manage to prevent it or not.

"I fear by the time you have control of the bureaucrats, Senator - there'll be nothing left of our people, our way of life."
"I understand your concern, Your Majesty - unfortunately, the Federation has possession of our planet."
"Senator - this is your arena; I feel I must return to mine.
I've decided to go back to Naboo."
"Go back? But your Majesty, be realistic, th-they'll force you to sign the treaty!"
"I will sign no treaty, Senator. My fate will be no different than that of our people."

Apparently Palpatine agrees with Plinkett that they could potentially apply some more direct and successful form of "force" here - since otherwise the pressure they're applying now (causing those "death tolls") isn't going to fundamentally change if she returns.
Apparently the talk is about them threatening her directly, which she responds with "my fate won't be different than the people's.
However this line here:

"I fear by the time you have control of the bureaucrats, Senator - there'll be nothing left of our people, our way of life."

once again casts doubts on what is being referred to, or which script version continuity is currently on display - especially if compared to this:

"The Trade Federation has destroyed all that we have worked so hard to build - if we do not act quickly, all will be lost forever."

What have they "worked hard to build"? And what "way of life"?
Before that it was all about drastic life-and-death issues - however these lines, esp. in a vacuum, rather make it sound like the Federation is just eroding their culture/projects/values/sovereignty/spirit/etc. which is worth fighting for, but isn't blotted out by the even a lot worse CATASTROPHIC DEATH TOLLS.
Back here on Naboo, however, things seemingly undergo another shift - after the somber tone of the Coruscant stay, where one might say depressing notions about death tolls matched the general mood, here in this new chapter the tone is upbeat and optimistic, and perhaps for this reason nothing more about any deaths is brought up again:

"What is the situation?"
Panaka: "Almost everyone's in camps.
A few hundred police and guards formed an underground resistance movement. I brought back as many of the leaders as I could.
The Federation army's also much larger than we thought - and much stronger. Your Highness, this is a battle I do not think that we can win."

"Almost everyone's in camps", but that's all he says.
No one cares to find out whether

"What if it is true - and the people are dying?"

It's never confirmed, nor refuted, nor ruled out - just no longer mentioned.
However at the very least, at this point they're already firmly planning to end this occupation, and now have the means to do it (more on the confused unclarities regarding this aspect at some later point) - they're no longer faced with the decision to either contact Sio Bibble and potentially expose themselves, or accept further death tolls; and no longer powerlessly stuck on Coruscant hoping the government does something; now there's just one way forward.
So does that somewhat account for all of this? Well, somewhat, sure, appears so.
Earlier, they checked on the Gungan city - and there, Panaka did voice speculations about what might've happened to them:

Obi-Wan: "Do you think they have been taken to the camps?"
Panaka: "More likely they were wiped out."
"Mesa no tink so."
Qui-Gon: "Do you know where they are, Jar Jar?"

However that was of course instantly resolved.
Ultimately, between its different "chapter", this movie has a noticeable cognitive dissonance about how high these particular stakes are:
at first a threat is made;
then the villains claim to have started making the threat real, however they're using that as a trap in order to trace them - creating a sense of creeping uncertainty about it all, as Darth Maul is closing in on them;
then once "the audience is shown", everyone starts treating it as a fact, in the context of the somber tone of the Coruscant stay;
and finally it all gives way to an upbeat tone during which this notion softly disappears from the narrative, and the lines that are used to refer to the nature of the occupation are now much more compatible with the notion that this is a:

Tension, stakes, a ticking clock!; heroism, and adventure - it's what makes Star Wars great.
Much like the Phantom Menace - when the Gungans fight the Robots to help Queen Amidala find the Viceroy, so that she doesn't have to sign a treaty to make the non-violent invasion legal in the courts...

However while it's possible to view this all as a fragmented combination of several mutually continuities, it also remains true that Gunray had expressed a violent threat, the protagonists were shortly after given the impression that he may very well have started putting it into practice, this was then "all but confirmed" by the cut to Sio Bibble on Naboo (though only to the viewers, not the protagonists), and then none of this was ever explicitly contradicted, or ruled out - even not by all the lines that, in isolation, would make a very different impression.
The selective memory of these lines seems to be the basis for this "non-violent invasion" comment - without the realization that they are effectively refuted by all the other (much more emphasized and explicit) parts that indicate a violent one (or, at the very least, one in which a mass starvation is induced);
an equivalent, albeit a very disproportionate one, would be if someone selectively remembered these lines from Ep4's black roundtable here:

"The Imperial Senate will no longer be of any concern to us; I have just received word that the Emperor has dissolved the council permanently. The last remnants of the old Republic have been swept away."
"That's impossible! How will the Emperor maintain control without the bureaucracy?"
"The regional governors now have direct control over their territories. Fear will keep the local systems in line - fear of this battle station."
"And what of the Rebellion? If the Rebels have obtained a complete technical readout of this station, it is possible, however unlikely, that they might find a weakness and exploit it."
"The plans you refer to will soon be back in our hands."
"Any attack made by the rebels against this station"

Never mind the "fear of this battle station" or "attacks" or "

This scene is pretty important to the plot, but it's really just there to engage an element they call the "ticking clock" - it's a basic function used to create tension in a story. They almost have the Death Star ready; it's ready to shoot giant lasers, and they plan to use it to crush the Rebellion - by destroying their hidden base.

; the plot of this movie is about governors non-violently controlling their local territories while non-violent rebels want to exploit the technical readouts of a station.

So the Queen waits around for some kind of approval, o-.. for something, to stop her people from dying- Why are they dying? I guess they're dying though...
But I didn't see anyone die?
In fact I haven't even seen any Naboo citizen at all - as far as I know it's a city with 20 or so pilots, a couple of bureaucrats and officials.

While obviously some "citizens" are eventually shown in the celebration at the end, the closest the movie ever gets to "showing anyone die", or confirming that it's taking place, is by showing Nute Gunray bringing it up to Sio Bibble who's acting like he accepts it as true (with the possibility that he's seen it not ruled out, but not confirmed either), and otherwise by having Padme believe his hologram transmission after that palace scene (although before that, the very same message was explicitly doubted).

Why are they dying? I guess they're dying though...

It looks like Plinkett is remembering the Padme lines, but not why she believes it's taking place, or what the cause of it is supposed to be in the first place;
obviously the answer to the first question is that "she's believing the governor's hologram message", and the answer to the second question is "because Gunray is trying to pressure her into agreeing to that treaty".
His uncertainty seems to primarily stem from ignoring and forgetting the information in the movie instead of going through it properly - however if he had gone through it, he would've also found a degree of uncertainty surrounding this: first as a direct part of the plot,
later in the form of residual doubts about how much of a "confirmation" the Bibble/Gunray scene is supposed to be (followed by Padme's sudden acceptance of his claims without learning anything new since it had been determined as dubious),
and eventually by the seeming dissonance created by lines that convey a milder version of the events and cast doubts on this plotline's internal continuity.
It's possible that this actual uncertainty created by the film subconsciously contributed to his uncertainty in some ways as well, in addition to him just not remembering stuff.

I guess they're dying though...

This seems like a casual acceptance of her claims - which coincides both with Padme's (unjustified, by rational metrics) acceptance of Sio's "death tolls" claim in the message, and the film's largely overwhelming (but not full) confirmation that it it was in fact true,
and, once again, may have been subconsciously influenced by that angle, but isn't directly based on any precise analysis or recollection of those elements.
Aside from all this, his indifferent and semi-dismissive tone is also incongruent with, and unrepresentative of the dramatic intensity that those scenes are presented with - even if going farther with it (say, for starters, by showing any "Naboo citizens" before the very last scene) could have increased this intensity further.
Jumping to the preceding step of the Neimoidian's master plan -

But the conflict from the blockade and the subsequent invasion

I mean I know George wanted the Jedis to fight in a cool place that's really Star Warsy? - so.. so what this is like a power generator? What does it power, the Universe??
So you're expecting me to believe that the people that built this technological wonder were dying without space supplies for 2 days??

So the Trade Federation have set up a blockade around... Naboo, in order to stop them from getting space supplies - which instantly causes some kinda... crisis? - that we never see.

Anyways, so I realize that Senator Palpatine was using the Trade Federation to create a crisis to advance himself politically; like that was the plot I think? But the conflict from the blockade and the subsequent invasion is the entire movie! Understanding what role the Trade Federation played in this, is important...
You know what the blockade was about, who was getting taxed, what kinda supplies were so crucial to the Naboo - what was it, like medical supplies? Just some kinda plague? Did they not have the capacity to survive on such a lush planet with a huge power reactor for one day without space trade?
You see I would've accepted the idea of some kinda mystery villain if the basics were at least clear...

Both when discussing the invasion as well as the preceding blockade, Plinkett consistently doesn't bother with going through the available information (while already not remembering it properly to begin with, naturally) - however for some reason the two instances are given the polar opposite treatment:
While seemingly intent on downplaying/doubting/denying the "death tolls" and high stakes of the invasion (or, more specifically, Gunray's methods of trying to force the treaty agreement) way beyond the residual amount of uncertainty left by the information in the film,
the effects of the blockade are instead being vastly overblown here not based on anything in the script.

"Hoping to resolve the matter with a blockade of deadly battleships, the greedy Trade Federation has stopped all shipping to the small planet of Naboo.
While the Congress of the Republic endlessly debates this alarming chain of events,"

"Deadly battleships" implies potential danger, and "alarming" just means that everyone is "alarmed" by this (easily explainable by it being perceived as a "bold move", or something people hadn't been sure was legal to begin with - judging by Gunray's emphatic insistence that it is "perfectly legal", and Sidious' ability to "make things legal" that weren't so before) - no resulting high-stakes crisis is implied by this at all; let alone one emerging after just a few days.

So the Trade Federation have set up a blockade around... Naboo, in order to stop them from getting space supplies - which instantly causes some kinda... crisis? - that we never see.

The bolded part is invented; "we never see it", nor does anyone imply it's taking place at all, or behave as if it does.

"Turmoil has engulfed the Galactic Republic. The taxation of trade routes to outlying star systems is in dispute."
"Supreme Chancellor, delegates of the Senate - a tragedy has occurred, which started right here with the taxation of trade routes, and has now engulfed our entire planet in the oppression of the Trade Federation."

The "trade/taxation dispute" has long escalated into the blockade before the movie even begins - which then escalates into the invasion a few minutes into said movie; the threats against the population start shortly after, eventually followed by the Governor's distress message.
Somehow during those segments of the audio commentary, Plinkett seems to have forgotten all about this, and apparently thinks that the "tax dispute" is still the full extent of what's at stake at any point after the 1st paragraph of the opening crawl:

And he has one last chance, and he puts that part in the pod - and finally, the pod starts working, and he can enter the big race - you know, to win the big prize at the end which will save.. the whole.. family.
And then he says "it's woorrrkiiing.." and you know, then you swell the dramatic music... - and that's when that scene works?
That scene doesn't work.. 20 minutes into a movie that's not about podracing.
I'm sorry to get all bitchy on you, but-.. but-... d'you ever watch this movie and, and be like... why did that happen, or, or-.. "I don't feel anything inside".... you know, I'm- like "I'm dead inside"?
Well.. - I'm.. just trying to explain why you feel dead inside when you watch this movie, or you don't feel excited - even at the end when they have the, big.. celebration? You know, []- [...]
But even at the end when they have the big, like, festival - like-... you're just like.. "So?" So what, there's a midget there now with an eyepatch on, and-... some boring-ass bitch.. gives a frog a glowing ball. Wwhy the fuck do I care?
It's not like the end of the original Star Wars when Luke, Han, and.. Chewbacca, get medals from Princess Leia - it's like, those guys saved the fucking day; what did these guys do? Oh, they resolved a tax dispute...
Oh.. - that's a good question, are you here to free the slaves Qui-Gon? No, actually we're.. we're in the process of settling a tax dispute... ohhh.
Yeah I guess freeing slaves would've made a better movie...
it's good we went with something boring, we wouldn't want to excite the audience too much...

All in all, on a general dementia--accuracy spectrum, Plinkett's commentary on this aspect of the plot keeps oscillating between these cases of sincere amnesia on the one side, and this bit on the other side:

This is the closest he ever comes to being "accurate", and it's still very far.
However while leaving out all the most dramatic scenes revolving around this, he also imagines a mass death crisis on Naboo caused by the pre-invasion blockade;
it's possible that this is him misattributing Padme's "people are dying" lines to the blockade and the resulting lack of space supplies - perhaps even forgetting that a subsequent invasion occurred at all, in those excerpts that is.

Number 8: I'm gonna slit my wrists
[Sigh...] It's hard to stomach any more of this shit - I still don't know who the main character is and why we should care about any of this.
At around this point in the original Star Wars movie, we've been with Luke almost the whole time getting to know him.
We see his plight;
his hopes and dreams...
we feel his frustration...
and then his sadness...
The slow build-up added depth, and emotion; and anticipation for the story to expand.
In the Phantom Menace we have nothing - we've a monotone queen, who's hiding from signing a treaty that's supposed to do something.
Why in fuck's name should we care at all.. I don't care about any of these characters?

But the real thrust of this scene is, this is when the stakes are really raised - insteada just a giant floating ball in space, we are now shown that the Death Star is capable of blowing up whole planets; and our ragtag group o' heroes are the only ones that can stop it...
Tension, stakes, a ticking clock!; heroism, and adventure - it's what makes Star Wars great.

Since all the segments with the direct Ep4 comparisons happen to be the amnesia ones, this causes the Ep1-Ep4 stakes comparisons to completely fall apart - as opposed to partially/overwhelmingly fall apart, if the less amnesia segments had been used instead.

Hi everyone, I’m hoping to get some help from the community.
My mum was raised in Sechelt, and her mother (My grandma) passed away when my mom was around 10 years old. My grandma had many health issues, she had Crohn’s disease throughout most of her life, she was the first person in Vancouver to be diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis (Flesh-Eating-Disease), and passed away mainly due to cancer of the stomach. This would have been around 1980-1987.
My boyfriend’s grandmother passed away recently and today was the funeral. After that, I brought the obituary home and talked with my parents and started learning a lot more about my grandma. I’m consistently told I look and act like her (good things), so I’ve always had interest in learning more about her.
My mom wants to find my grandma’s obituary, but it has proven to be a struggle. We don’t live in SeChelt either, we’re in Kelowna. My mum has found my grandma’s obituary online before, but we could not find it tonight. I really want to find it for her, I’ve been searching for a bit and I figured I could reach out to the community to see if they have any information as to where I could find it. Even if I need to go in person, usually come to the coast during the summer.
She passed away in St. Mary’s around 1980-1986. I’d really appreciate any suggestions you may have. Thank you for taking time out of your day to read this!

I’ve never made a reddit post so this is a first. Anyways i decided to to download this and maybe see if people could relate. I’m 20, male, Id say i grew up a pretty average life and blessed to always have both parents there to support me. I’ve never really had trouble making friends and have always been a social person. Even though this is the case i’ve always felt alone. I’ve moved several times bouncing schools and also friends. We moved right before i went into highschool which was great because it meant a fresh start after having a shit time in middle school. I’ve always had confidence but it grew when i got put in a healthy environment in highschool. Everything went well, i made friends, was a starter on the soccer team and even got to experience a lot of things that maybe other people didn’t.
Despite things going well in my life i still felt alone. I thought getting a girlfriend would help which it did for awhile until things got hard between us. Even with her i felt alone. Unfortunately she used the vulnerability that i would express against me which only made things worse between us. We made some great memories with each other and i learned about the things i do and don’t want in future relationships. Since then i’ve made sure to just be 1% better than i was yesterday. I’ve changed completely from then to now in the best way possible. I don’t drink, i don’t want to party anymore, i’m more focused on my goals mental and physical, have gained self worth and i’m building the foundation to a life that i will be proud of. I’m very proud of myself which it’s taken 20 years to finally say that. It just sucks that even in a time where people feel more connected i feel a big disconnect between myself and my generation. I don’t like partying and getting fucked up because im more interested in my future. That’s one of the reasons why i feel so alone lately. Also Id be lying if i said i didn’t want a lady in my life either lol. I find it very hard to find a girlfriend mainly because dating culture has shifted into hooking up with randoms and not facing any consequence. It’s hard to find people that see value in me so it’s even harder to find a partner that would see that value as well. (Side note: I fucking hate dating apps and bar culture which is kinda the way people date nowadays)
Other people have way bigger problems so i don’t have anything to complain about. But Idk the last couple weeks have been a big struggle. No matter what i’m going to continue with my mission but damn sometimes i feel like giving up. Even with all the things going for me, i feel incredibly alone and downright invisible. i could move halfway across the world and nobody would notice or even care. i’m very empathetic and will always help people in need. It just sucks when i’m always trying to help but no one cares to help me. I just need someone to look me in my eyes and tell me that they see me, that they care. Maybe someone could relate to this. Without a win in their last seven games (D1 L7) while conceding a whopping 21 goals in the process, Armenia will face the challenge of Turkey this weekend in the opening game of their UEFA European Championship qualification campaign. The visitor comes into this match with confidence taken from six wins out of their last eight games (D1 L1). Their most two recent wins were in friendly games against Scotland and Czech Republic. Their most in-form player at the moment is Enes Unal. He is in a great from with his club Getafe and he has scored six goals in his last four appearances for them. He also scored one goal in Turkey’s latest friendly against Czech Republic so without a doubt he will be the main threat to Armenia’s defense here. Moreover, he will be supported by the likes of Cengiz Under, Hakan Calhanoglu, Merih Demiral, and Caglar Soyuncu so Turkey really have the qualities to hurt Armenia here. Turkey won the last two meetings between the two nations back in 2008 & 2009 year where they won both games 2-0. It is very likely that the visitor will continue their trend against the home side after this match.

Croatia vs Wales
Finishing third in Qatar World Cup while only losing once in their last 10 games (W7 D2), Croatia will entertain Wales at Stadion Poljud this weekend. It will be Wales’ first game without Gareth Bale who decided to retire from international football last year. Without a win in their last eight games (L6 D2), Wales will begin their life after Gareth Bale with a tough challenge here. On the contrary, Croatia’s senior players Luka Modric and Ivan Perisic still being called to their national team for this Euro qualification and their experience will be a valuable asset for Croatia going forward. It is worth noting that Wales has failed to beat Croatia in the last three meetings between the two nations (D1 L2) and it is hard to see them end that here as Croatia has shown some very solid performance to finish third in the World Cup. With the quality of the players that Croatia have, I back them to deliver their first three points of this Euro qualification campaign.

I’m so lost. Posting on here in hopes complete outsiders can provide clarity. I will do my best to be unbiased and factual. My (ex?)fiancé (34M) and I (33F) have been together for 3 1/2 years. When we met, neither of us were expecting to find a serious relationship. I had just moved back to the states after being away for a year, and he had just got out of a 6 year serious relationship. But, we met and fell in love. Our relationship has always been so easy and fluid and felt so so natural. We get along with each others friends and families. We have incredible chemistry - great sex, healthy intimacy, good communication. We are both so supportive and loving toward each other, and make it a point to consistently show up for each other. We also both go to therapy - he has self esteem issues, and feels like he has a lack of drive and agency in his life, and has admittedly “floated along” through the years until we met. I have always been the emotional leader and goal setter in our relationship, and have challenged him (in what I always thought was a loving and supportive way!) to live a bit more intentionally and think about long term goals. I am in therapy because I come from a family of addicts and struggle a lot with abandonment and codependency issues. I actually started therapy right after we started dating because I didn’t want to screw up this relationship with my baggage, and I have really done a lot of healing within this relationship.
We don’t fight often, but when we do we are both very distraught. We always repair and come back together and talk through the issues in hopes to make things better. The two main issues in our relationship are 1) drinking habits (neither unhealthy but he likes to consume more than I do) and 2) him feeling like he doesn’t know who he is/what he wants/his lack of agency. Everytime we make a big life decision there is so much back and forth because he doesn’t know what he wants. It was a process to buy a house (which happened a year ago) and get engaged (happened 9 months ago). Wedding planning has been like pulling teeth. He assured me it wasn’t because he didn’t want to get married. BUT For the longest time (pre-engagement) he told me he didn’t know if he wanted marriage or a family. But after many talks (and me telling him to decide or let me go) he decided that he did, he was just scared. Also for some background - he is bisexual, and has never fully explored his sexuality because he was always in a LTR. Serial monogamist. This is something I have always tried to be inclusive about and make him feel seen and understood- not something to shove away because he is in a heteronormative relationship.
Back to the present - this past weekend was like any other. We hosted a St. Patty’s day party at our house, did yard work and saw family. During family dinner, our parents reamed us asking about weddding plans (we have not made many and are getting married in 6 months). It was uncomfortable for both of us. When we got home, we started talking about the evening and he tells me he isn’t ready for marriage. He needs a break to figure out who he is and what he wants. He doesn’t know if he wants monogamy, to have a domestic life with a wife and kids. We talk and cry and fight all night. In the morning I left for work and when I returned he had left to stay at a friends. Everything has been a blur since then. He came home on Wednesday to talk and he said he wants to fully break up - that he can’t find himself within our relationship - he needs to be completely alone. He left today to go out of town to visit some friends and have space for the next 10 days.
I am 100% completely heartbroken. I don’t want this relationship to be over in anyway. I am completely in love with him and I feel like half of my body has been ripped off. I can’t imagine my future without him, and now I feel like the days lay before me in a black void. We had dreams together, we talked about having a baby right away. On Wednesday I begged for couples counseling, what can be done to save the relationship?? He just says it’s too late and he needs to be alone.
I don’t know what to do, if I can even do anything. Is he having a midlife crisis/cold feet? Is he wanting to explore his sexuality? Is he gay? Do I beg him to stay and make compromises on my dreams? Do I let go and try to heal from this heartbreak and learn how to be single again? It’s only been 5 days and things are moving so fast, especially after 3+ years together. I am so lost and it is so hurtful that he is willing to throw everything we have away. As of now I am giving him the space he asked for and am trying to survive hour by hour.

THE Call of Duty zombies game to accomplish what Chronicles was meant to and more. Bringing together all of CoD zombies, including the comics into one central game. Not merely a remastering of every Aether map, but a remake. CoD Richtofen would include four modes: Story, Multiplayer, Arcade, and Freeplay.
Freeplay would be like it has been, but with more customizable options than before. Choosing between characters on all maps, load outs, enemies, etc., as well as different gameplay modes such as survival, zombie blood, team, etc.
Multiplayer would run much like non zombies multiplayer. Choosing a mode and playing against others on randomly selected maps.
Dead ops arcade would include the dead ops 1/2/3, the DS maps, various scrapped modes, (and with the Treyarch merger, it would be perfect to include) chaos storyline and exo zombies If they aren’t incorporated into the main storyline.
And finally, Story mode. The entire Aether storyline, from start to finish in a chronological campaign. Really giving the developers the chance to pour attention into the storyline; fixing Samantha’s voice, patching up areas, making some things easier, some harder, etc.; all in a cohesive animation style. Narrated by a new character, made for the individual. Story mode toys with all characters being available in the same game, similar to Reznov and Mason. In doing so, modifying easter eggs to be done solo by being able to switch through characters. As well as turning easter eggs into objectives, with clues viewable with Vulture Aid. At the end we find out the game is narrated by none other than American Edward Richtofen. The game is a simulation of his memories, called project “Treyarch”. His lead character is Corporal Tank Dempsey, whose early attempt at an A.I. makes him self aware. The end leads right into the Dark Aether storyline. DLC content would include expanded maps (like the streets of Kino der Toten), new maps, characters, weapons, skins, etc.
I know this is a pipe dream, but I thought it was a fun pipe dream I thought was worth sharing. What are yours thoughts?

A blink of an eye passed, moments after the object was thrown across the room by Efena over to Mystia. Sumireko and the others were stunned by what had occurred; some were perplexed, while others were concerned.
What they saw was Mystia being tightly embraced by Satsujin, in a position where Satsujin could act as a shield, a protector for the Night Sparrow. The object had dug deep into his back, injecting firmly well into him. But the object in question was strange. It wasn’t some kind of special bullet that Efena had prepared, nor was it a blade of any kind. It was a syringe filled with an unusual blue liquid that slowly seeped into Satsujin until it was completely drained.
Satsujin felt a pulse of energy course through him, as if a jolt of electricity had zipped from the top of his head to the ends of his toes. He felt a surge of immense power surging through him, only for it to dissipate and vanish, nothing more than a flickering light that had lost its spark. But other than that, he felt fine.
"Mystia…" He said, looking at the girl’s face. "Are you alright?"
"Satsujin…" Mystia looked at his face, seeing the genuine, reassuring smile he gave her, letting her know everything was alright. "You…took the hit for me."
"Yeah…I did." Satsujin said. "Because I wouldn’t want to witness the one I love get hurt." He said.
Within his subconscious, Satsuki was weeping with tears of joy, as though she were watching a soap opera. Satsugrim, on the other hand, did nothing but facepalm as hard as he could.
"Satsujin… You’re… You’re so brave… You’re so heroic. You’re so…Gullible." Mystia’s voice suddenly changed to a dark and scary one.
"W…What?" Satsujin was confused. The way Mystia said that word, it was as though she were now a different person. But that can’t be true, right? He sensed nothing wrong from her, nothing! There’s no way she’s a fake; he would know!
But he was soon to be proven wrong. Mystia’s form slowly began to change. Her hair which was short and pink began to grow long and messy, reaching down to her hips. Her skin turned pale and chiseled like a porcelain doll. Her clothes which were white and brown, decorated with ornaments, turned into a long plain white dress.
"You’re not Mystia…" Satsujin said, backing away from the transforming figure. "Who are you?" He asked.
"Who am I?" The figure said. "Satsujin, have you forgotten what I look like? How shameful of you. I’m Efena. The Goddess of Fear." Efena said, now revealing her true form.
"B-But how!? I thought you were controlling Yukari! You can’t be in two places at once!" Satsujin shouted.
Over by where Yukari was, a root that had been implanted in her neck shriveled up and detached from her, likely due to the force of the impact that she received. Her eyes and form slowly reverted back to normal, as she blinked around, confused about what was going on. But everything clicked when she saw Sumireko and the others.
Sumireko and Suika looked back, seeing Yukari struggling to move. "Wait, if that’s Efena over there. Then that’s Yukari." Sumireko said.
"No…No!!!" She attempted to say something, but her voice was hoarse. She tried to get up, but her legs buckled when she moved. It was as though she were a newborn taking their first steps. "Everyone…Run…Run!!!"
Everyone was even more confused, while Efena laughed. "My roots can do more than grab onto people or spread my fear mist. I can also inject them into the back of their necks and control them for a short period of time. Though I can’t do it on anyone, only those who have succumbed to their fears…Oh, did I forgot to mention I can shapeshift into other beings?"
Of all the moments that Satsujin could be feeling anger, this was one of them. He was furious, a fiery volcano erupting in an explosive manner. To think he'd be duped so easily by someone he hadn't expected. He was heartbroken, knowing it wasn’t Mystia he saved.
"I…Will…Crush you!!!" He shouted, holding his hand out and preparing to unleash a spell card. "Song Sign: Violent String!"

But nothing happened.
"What?" Satsujin was now more confused than before. He tried again. "Song Sign: Violent String!!!" But again, nothing, not even a single bullet was casted. "Why is it not working? Violent String! Violent String!!! Violent String!!!!!"
Efena simply smiled, while her roots began to form around her and Satsujin. Slowly they moved to wrap around his legs, throwing him to the ground. He hit the floor hard, nearly banging his head had he not covered his face first. He didn’t even notice the roots surrounding him. And thinking about it now, he can’t sense anything whatsoever. He was completely blind.
Efena began to laugh, watching Satsujin struggle like an infant, trying to pull himself out of the roots. He wanted to use his intangibility, but even that wouldn’t work. He can't use his echolocation, turn intangible, or even cast magic. He was powerless.
"What’s going on!? Why can’t I use my abilities!?" He said.
The others realized what was going on, and they quickly tried to go over and help him.
"Satsujin!!!" Rumia shouted. "What’s happening right-"
Suddenly, the roots in the room began to spray out their mist, hitting everyone that was inside, including Satsujin. They all tried to avoid inhaling it, holding their breaths, but they couldn’t keep it up forever.
"Ack! That smells terrible!" Rumia said, wiping the mist away from her face. "Satsujin… What is going on?"
She opened her eyes. But she didn’t find herself in the Scarlet Devil Mansion… But instead, she was in a dark forest, where she was met with a woman she was all too familiar with. Donning a fox mask on her face, wearing the traditional clothes of Hakurei, and wielding the honorable gohei that was primarily used for extortions and exterminations.
"N…No…No, it can’t be real… No…Nonono…No…G…Get away…" Rumia said, backing away. "Get away…Get away I’m sorry!!!"
Rumia witnessed her fears come to life. Cirno on the other hand was experiencing something different. She saw the sight of her beloved friends dead on the ground, their weapons broken and shattered, even Letty, the woman she looked up to was nothing more than a corpse.
"E…Everyone…Reisen…Big Sis…Letty." Cirno said.
And as she looked up, she saw a figure floating above the clouds, the full moon embraced behind her, and a single wing that spread wider than their entire body, while a long blade rested in their hand.
"Cirno and the others will be victorious in their fight, managing to defeat the one-winged angel with no casualties." The person said in a cold yet calculating voice.
"You…You killed them…You killed them all… SAGUME!!!!!!!!!!" Cirno screamed with a mix of anger and fear.
The others were experiencing similar fates. Suika had found herself alone again, trapped in her own gourd with no way out. Sumireko was trapped inside a box that was slowly filled with cockroaches. Meiling watched everyone in her family die thanks to the one person who caused it all. Ko witnessed her mother being crushed to death over and over again. Mary simply turned into a rusty blade, worthless in all the ways a blade could be, and forever forgotten as a result.
Satsujin could hear everyone screaming or yelling in fear, while the laughter of Efena played out. "D-Damn you!!! How…How did you do this? How did you take away my powers!?" He demanded.
"Oh? That’s simple." Efena said. "I used a special kind of serum made by a highly intelligent acquaintance of mine. You probably don’t know him, but he’s known by the name Prof. Altalune. "And what is that!?" Satsujin demanded.
"The ability to disable other abilities."
The way she said it made him realize the gravity of his situation. He can't do anything because his abilities aren't working. He’s nothing more than a regular being.
"I wonder, now that your pesky mental defenses are lowered, that means you should be susceptible to my mist again." Efena giggled. "Only one way to find out…"
She approached Satsujin, imitating a blown kiss while spraying one of her roots directly in his face. He coughed, almost gagging from the intense smell of the mist.
Within his subconscious, his eyes gazed upon a sight that was to behold. He was standing in the middle of the streets of Japan, late at night, with the cold wind blowing by him. He looked at his surroundings, and they were familiar, very familiar.
"This…This is the place that I-"
He stepped back, only to feel a presence behind him. He turned around, looking up to greet the face of a man he swore was dead.
His father was dressed in the same fancy suit, smoking a cigar and laughing so hard it sent chills down his spine.
"Hehehe. Run all you want, boy. But you can never truly escape your past." The man said.
Satsujin, for what seemed like forever, was afraid again. His eyes darted around the place, looking at the buildings and the streetlamps. He saw men and women of various shapes and sizes, all of them wearing identical outfits while holding weapons ranging from bats to switchblades. He walked back, but felt another presence yet again.
He turned around and was greeted by a mature and beautiful woman. She wore a silky dress that showed her shoulders well. Her hair was styled up to make herself look as rich as rich could be, while in one of her hands she held a wine glass that swirled round and round with little effort on her part.
"Mother…You’re also-"
"Don’t talk to me." His mother said.
Satsujin was interrupted by the swiping of her hand, her claws tearing through his skin like paper. He was knocked to the ground, his cheek bleeding. The pain was enough for him to start tearing up, but both his parents were the least of his problems.
When he looked to his right, he saw his brother kneeling on the ground, a bag over his head, and one of the taller guys standing above him, holding a mallet primarily used for pounding mochi. His brother struggled to move because his arms and legs were bound with ropes.
"No…No, what are you doing to him?" Satsujin asked. "Let him go. Please, let him go! He’s done nothing wrong!"
His father let out a laugh, while his mother took a small sip of wine, looking at the man with the mallet and spoke,
"Do your thing already." She said.
"No! NO!!!" Satsujin shouted, he tried to get up but his body was weak. He could only watch as the man lifted the mallet up into the sky, casting a shadow in the moonlight. His father's laughter filled his ears as he screamed in desperation at the sight of him.
"NOOOOOOOO!!!"
Before the mallet could strike, Satsujin was suddenly pulled out of the nightmare by Satsuki and Satsugrim. The gateway to the sequence tried to pull him back using root-like hands, but Satsuki used her bat to crush them into nothing but paste.
"Augh! Gross!" Satsuki said. "I’ll need to clean Ruthless later after all of this."
Satsujin breathed heavily, but began to slow down when he realized he was back in his own subconscious, where it was safe. He looked up, seeing Satsugrim holding a hand out to help him up. He gladly took that hand and stood back up.
"Thanks for pulling me out. I didn’t think that-"
And then Satsugrim punched him across the face, knocking him down.
"Satsugrim!" Satsuki shouted.
"You… Fucking idiot!" Satsugrim shouted. He reached back down to pull Satsujin back using his shirt, forcing Satsujin to stare right into his half-broken mask. "Not only did you ignore my advice, not run away when you should’ve run, and willingly surrender, but now we can’t even use our abilities because of your inept behavior. And for what exactly!?"
Satsujin looked back at Satsugrim, still feeling afraid due to the mist. He could see the level of anger his more negative variant showed, and he can’t help but feel he was right.
"I just...wanted to protect someone," said Satsujin.
"Oh, of course." Satsugrim said in a harsh tone. He shoved Satsujin away from him as he tried to keep his balance. "I guess it was worth giving up all of our powers and skills so you could save the woman who lured all of us into a trap… You’re more incompetent than her right now."
Satsujin wanted to argue, fight back, say something to make his variant shut up. But he can't because he has nothing to say to demonstrate that what he did was worthwhile. He led everyone into a trap, got them all captured, and when they were close to victory, he screwed up in the end.
"Okay, fine. You’re right." Satsujin said. "I fucked up. Is that all you want to hear?"
"Oh wow, you’re actually admitting it." Satsugrim felt a little surprised. "But it’s too late now, Satsujin. We can’t go back after this."
"Well what do you expect me to do then? It’s not my fault that you and everyone else expect me to be perfect."
"Guys, c’mon already!" Satsuki shouted. "What happened to no fighting/bickering? We need to think of a solution that could help us get out of this situation."
"Oh, you got any bright ideas, Miss ‘Swing and a Hit’? Because I am all… all… all…" Satsugrim's tone changed from sarcastic to fearful. Satsuki and Satsujin were puzzled as they both wondered what caused his mannerisms to change.
"Huh? What is it now? Why did you get so quiet?" Satsuki asked.
Satsugrim’s hand was shakily raised to point forward behind Satsuki. Both she and Satsujin turned around to look at where Satsugrim was pointing. And they both turned baffled.
They saw a figure walk towards them, wearing a classy black suit normally worn at formal events. Their hair was well-combed and styled in a fancy manner. He had both of his hands in his pockets, strolling towards the three while a trail of a purple, glitchy essence trailed behind him on the ground. He wore a purple-oni mask on his face, covering up his identity, but as soon as everyone saw him, he took out one of his hands and removed the mask.
Everyone was shocked when they saw who it was. He had the same face as Satsujin, with the exception that there were no scars around his eyes, and instead of red and blue heterochromatic eyes, they were both a vibrant shade of purple.
"No…No. No no no no no nononononononononononono." Satsugrim said in a panicked tone. "We got to move. Now… NOW!!!" He grabbed both Satsuki and Satsujin, pulling them as he tried to make them move.
"Hey! What is going on!? Who is that guy?" Satsujin said.
"He’s the reason I don’t have my eyes! We can’t stay here! We gotta move now!!!" Satsugrim said.
"What? I'm not going to flee like you, Grim!" Satsuki said, yanking her arm away from Satsugrim. "If he's a threat, then we should deal with him!"
"Wait! No!!!" Satsugrim said.
But Satsuki didn’t listen. She ran right over to the purple-eyed man with her baseball bat. She got close enough to where she could swing it right at him, intending to bash his brains out. However-
*BANG*
She fell to the ground, dropping her bat, and lay there, blood seeping out from the bullet wound she received from the man’s gun, which he had in his other pocket.
"Satsuki!" Satsujin said. "We gotta help her!!!" He tried to pull away from Satsugrim.
"Again with this shit!? The last time you helped someone we lost our powers, we gotta move!"
"I don’t care! I can’t leave her! You can if you want!"
"I can’t! You’re supposed to be the main host! If you fall, then he gets to take back control!"
"Who even is he!?"
The man who had been standing far away from them suddenly appeared in front of them, a casual smile on his face and his eyes glaring down at both variants of Satsujin. Both of them froze in terror, their legs paralyzed by terror. In a desperate attempt, Satsugrim threw Satsujin away from him with as much strength as he could, then proceeded to pull out his severed blade to attack the threat. But the threat blocked the attack using the hilt of his gun, putting in little effort to hold him back.
"Grim! What are you-"
"Just fucking go already!" Satsugrim shouted.
Those words were apparently enough for Satsujin to finally understand the situation. He turned around and began to run as quickly as he could while Satsugrim held back the menace for as long as possible. He ran as far as he could, running for what felt like miles, yet never seemingly running out of breath.
"Damn it Grim! The one time you decide to not act so cowardly." Satsujin told himself. "What do I even do now? I can’t use my abilities, I don’t know where I’m supposed to go."
*BANG*
A bullet shot him in the leg. He fell to the ground, wincing from the immense pain he was feeling.
"Auuugh!!! It hurts!!! Why does it hurt so much!?" Satsujin yelled. He figured he could try and pull out the bullet from his leg, but he didn’t know how he could do that. Instead he watched the figure who he believed he ran away from now walking towards him, dragging behind Satsuki and Satsugrim using what looked to be strings made of the same essence that trailed behind him.
He crawled away, trying to get back up, but he shot his other leg in response, making it so he could no longer run. Satsujin yelled in pain, desperate for a way out.
"W-wait!!! Please… Why are you doing this?" Satsujin said. "Aren’t you supposed to be me or something? We’re supposed to work together!"
The figure continued to remain silent. He walked up to Satsujin, pulling him up with ease, and forced him to make eye contact. Satsujin remained terrified of the person, knowing he could not do anything.
"Who…are you even?" He asked.
And finally, the figure spoke.
"...I’m you… Or rather, you’re me… Dai Kensei."
And then it happened. Satsujin felt a flourish of corruption energy flow right into him. He started to scream sporadically, both internally and externally.
Back in the real world, Satsujin was glitching out, his body twitching and writhing like someone who had a seizure. His screams filled up the room, his form changing to become more and more unrecognizable as if he were a sprite in a game that had been horribly altered to be nothing like how it should look.
And then, it stopped. Satsujin’s form changed back to how he was before he became a vengeful spirit, back into being a full-blooded human, as he collapsed to the ground, his eyes no longer red and blue, not even a bright pink and purple, or even blue and red. They were completely white, lacking any color whatsoever.
Efena was a little shocked at first, seeing Satsujin react in such a way. But her shock turned to laughter, laughter that became more hysterical in a matter of seconds. She laughed as though she truly believed she had won.
"HAHAHAHA!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAAAAAA!!! Oh…Inco. To think you had planned this far… I knew you wouldn’t let someone like him be." She said, wiping away tears from her face. "You always…always find a way."
Reaching in her dress, she pulled out PB’s deactivated form that she got from Ko, smiling with bliss. "Now all we need is the cube and die and then-"
Her moment was interrupted when she felt a bullet hit her, albeit a weak one. She looked over, seeing Yukari having regained some of her strength now, as she stood up with a look of frustration and hatred, struggling to move but having enough energy to act if she needed to.
"Oh, yes. I forgot about you for a moment. You’re still regaining your energy though, so you’re not going to be much of a threat, are you?" Efena said.
Yukari stepped forward, waddling back and forth while breathing wearily. She didn’t say anything, instead only focused on walking towards the Goddess of Fear. But a root she didn’t see caused her to trip over, falling to the ground. She struggled to push herself back up while Efena continued to laugh.
"Look at you, trying to stand up like a newborn deer. Maybe I should spray you with some of my mist to help." Efena relocated some of her roots to Yukari's position. But before she could spray out more of her mist, she was sucker-punched hard across the face.
Yukari blinked. One second Efena was standing all triumphant and stoic, the next a blinding light zipped right at her and struck the woman across the face. She stumbled but kept her feet on the ground. Efena checked her face, feeling the lingering pain of a punch left on her.
"What?" She said. She then checked her other hand, realizing that PB was gone. "Wait… Where’s the plate!?"
Just then, a blinding light reappeared in the room, erasing the darkness. A figure stood in between Yukari and Efena, shrouded in light. The Goddess of Fear’s eyes widened, filled with mixed emotions of fear and anger, seeing the figure holding PB in their hands.
"...You…It’s you…" Efena said.
"...Who are you?" Yukari said with a raspy voice.
The figure looked back at Yukari, "Can you still use your powers right now?"
Yukari was confused by their request. She had regained some of her energy so she should be able to open up a gap. "I should, but why do you ask?"
As if right on cue, the room started to shake, tremendously. It was as though something was shaking the entire mansion, affecting Yukari, Efena, and also the figure shrouded in light.
Deep beneath the mansion, Demise was somewhere close to where the basement was located, using his powers to affect the surrounding rock and dirt by creating vibrations equivalent to that of high-magnitude earthquakes. He hummed to himself, wondering how long it would take for the mansion to collapse. Because while the mansion can handle many types of weather and disasters, a magnitude-10 earthquake is not one of them.
The mansion began to crack, the pillars that supported it began to break and collapse, rooms shattered, and debris fell. It was only a matter of time before the entire mansion was demolished. Efena, attempting to avoid getting hit, had a chunk of the ceiling collapse on top of her, knocking her out easily.
"W-w-what is going on?" Yukari said, trying not to be thrown to the ground.
"Crap!!! Crap! crap! crap!" The figure of light said. "Quick! Make one of those gaps and help me get everyone out to safety! Now!!!"
Yukari listened to the person, and they mustered the energy needed to make a small gap that was big enough for one person to enter at a time. The figure then moved to grab everyone one by one, moving fast, but not too fast over towards the gap and threw them in. Sumireko, Rumia, Cirno, Ko, Gummy, Shanghai, Mary, Satsujin, Suika, and Meiling were all carried into the portal. It was an easy task due to them all being entranced by the effects of the Fear Mist. They also tossed PB through the gap portal.
Once everyone was sent to safety, Yukari moved to enter herself. But was struck on the head however, and passed out immediately.
"Oh no." The figure said, watching the gap slowly close. They knew they had to go help, reaching over to Yukari so they could bring her over to the gap before it was too late. But before they could even touch her, their wristwatch began to beep loudly.
"WARNING: PARADOX IMMINENT! WARNING: PARADOX IMMINENT!"
"What!? No, are you kidding me!?" The figure said with both shock and annoyance. "How is saving her going to distort the timeline!?"
They wanted to complain and ignore the warning. But with their knowledge of how the space-time continuum worked, they could not take that risk. Instead, they were forced to flee, zipping out of the mansion at light speed moments before it completely collapsed with Yukari, Efena, and whoever else had resided inside.
The Scarlet Devil Mansion, home to people of various ethnicities and origins, a place where they could spend their peaceful days like family…Was now nothing but wreckage.

Past abusers in my life have had issues respecting boundaries. When I try to establish any boundaries, even regarding my safety and well-being, it seems like they take it as a challenge to overcome rather than respecting my autonomy. I don’t think this unusual behavior for abusers, if not one of their main traits naming them as abusers.
I grew up with child abuse and the fallout is now PTSD and trauma among other mental health issues. The main way I have dealt with abusive people as an adult is simply cut them out of my life.
I am in the tough situation where I currently can’t do that. I share custody with my ex of my two oldest kids. I can’t cut the ex out as I have to interact concerning logistics and support for the kids.
I even pushed it to a court a second time for custody evaluation despite the long odds. I wanted to keep the kids safe. I was painted as as the abuser, citing my past mental health with PTSD long before our divorce and custody issues as being unstable even though I never hurt anyone or myself. I was the primary caregiver up until the custody eval without any issues for the kids.
Though the silver lining is I now see her a lot less, it’s not worth seeing my kids far less. Went from 50/50 nights to a little less than ~ 70/30. Ironically I still have more direct hours with the kids (which is not a lot) since the ex puts them in activities and programs instead of spending time together.
So now when I drop the kids off at their house - panic attack. When I have to text, call, or see them - panic attack. Deal with anything concerning the divorce or custody - panic. It’s bad enough I don’t feel like I am present for the kids (I have 2 others) in the way I want to be. It’s been 5 years of this bs. It’s intense and exhausting.
It doesn’t also help that my abusive mom got co-oped into the whole mess by my abusive ex, and now sees the kids on a regular basis despite my having cut her out of my life when my oldest was born. She even testified on behalf of my ex to keep the kids from me. It’s like a double whammy and definitely feels like my past trauma is very intertwined with the present trauma as a result.
So how do others best cope having their abusers in their life on a pretty frequent and regular frequency?

new to sff builds and haven't build a pc for a decade or so. I'm kinda just learning a bit on whats changed and really digging the smaller footprints here
looking to build a new PC and came across the tech buyers guru website (also saw it was in the wiki)
$2000 build

the look of the $2000 build looks really nice perhaps a bit overkill for what I'm planning to do which is harry potter, cs, divinity 2. baldurs gate 3 when it comes. I'm pretty sure I'm still gonna go for a 1440p 144-165hz monitor in 27" (perhaps the one in the $1500 build looks like great value compared to the old asus rog swift I paid like 600 bucks for in the early 2010's) (sold that whole setup a while back)
What other monitors are worth looking at in this range?
I always valued high fps over 4k and don't think I want to build another pc or upgrade soon. I know there's no such thing as future-proofing but just trying to be reasonable.
Just trying to get a sense what I should tweak in the $2000 build.
Does it make sense to try a liquid cooler? what is the biggest that may fit reasonably easy?
I would say that I liked the noise reduction a lot when I put in a custom loop on my old rig, but not looking to do custom this time, I'm a old guy who's got less time to tinker.
I've seen some posts here fit the arctic liquid freezer 280 in this case but not sure how easily with this build.
Any other cpu coolers recommended?
Anything about this build seem like a different part could fit better? there are just so many options it seems overwhelming.
