2023.03.25 05:02 gollumsPRagent I'm (F27) and a maxillofacial surgeon has suggested to get my TMJ operated but I'm not in pain so I don't know how important it is that I do it just for prevention.

My main question before I go into details is : is painless TMJ worse getting surgery on just as a prevention measure for old age ? Or is it possible for it to never get worse ?
The only issue with my TMJ are the aesthetics of my jaw, which are getting more noticeable as I age because I've lost my baby cheeks and now it's very visible and a little masculine. I am insecure about it but my fear of surgery is much stronger. I never have headaches, I do have some pain but it's rare, maybe 3 times a year when I bite some hard food, but it doesn't hurt on the daily. My jaw clicks when I open it very wide but that's it. My teeth are healthy-ish (never had wisdom teeth grow though). They're most definitely not meeting and my tongue is always resting between my teeth, but not impacted in a way that I'm suffering or have my dentist worried. I don't have a lisp or any trouble speaking.
The TMJ was only discovered at 21 which is why I didn't have it corrected before puberty ended. Now I've seen a surgeon who suggested surgery because he thinks it's the only way to have it fixed, but I'm not in any pain at 27 so my concern is : should I do this surgery (double surgery, he said) in case it gets worse as I age, or should I just keep living with it ?
Of course the aesthetics impact my self esteem but I know I can make peace with it because it's mostly been about men's gaze on me and some not finding me pretty enough, it's not hugely deformed in any way and some people find me attractive regardless so I feel like I just need to work through self esteem. If anything, I almost got to the point where I think it's a nice way of filtering out people who are a little superficial because I could have been conventionally pretty with a slimmer jaw but this little "difference" makes it easy to only find people who like me for more than my looks. So that aspect of it is not something I feel I desperately need.

2023.03.25 05:02 StepwiseUndrape574 GTA 6 Characters: Who Could We Play As?

One of the most exciting aspects of a new GTA game is the potential for new characters to play as. While there has been no official announcement about the characters in GTA 6, there have been rumors and speculations about who we could potentially play as.
One popular theory is that the game could feature a female protagonist, which would be a first for the franchise. This could potentially bring a fresh perspective to the game and could allow for new storylines and gameplay mechanics.
Another theory is that the game could feature multiple protagonists, similar to GTA 5. This would allow players to switch between characters and experience different perspectives and storylines.
There have also been rumors that the game could feature a returning character from a previous GTA game, such as CJ from GTA San Andreas or Tommy Vercetti from GTA Vice City. While this is a possibility, it's important to keep in mind that these are just rumors and should be taken with a grain of salt.
Ultimately, the characters in GTA 6 are anyone's guess at this point. However, it's safe to say that Rockstar Games will create memorable and compelling characters that players will enjoy playing as.

2023.03.25 05:00 Anglicanpolitics123 Today was the feast day of Archbishop Oscar Romero. The assassinated bishop and saint of El Salvador. These are quotations from his prophetic speeches and letters condemning the Latin American death squads of his country and also criticising President Jimmy Carter for inconsistency on human rights.

I've posted about Archbishop Romero several times and I'll do it again because if there was ever a man in our modern times who deserved the title and canonisation of the term "saint" it was him. Archbishop from 1977 to 1980 he was the head of the El Salvadorean Catholic Church at a time when there was a military dictatorship propped up by CIA trained death squads that caused the deaths of 75,000 people. This included innocent men, women and children including infants who were hacked to death in extermination campaigns launched by the dictatorship. He also lived at a time of vast economic inequality in his nation. Inspired by the example of his best friend, Fr Rutilio Grande who stood up for the poor and died, he would stand up for the poor and human rights too. This would lead to clashes with the military dictatorship of his country as well as the expansion of his voice through radio broadcast which was listened to by the poor, the peasant and indigenous populations of both El Salvador and Central America. Because of this the regime sought to bomb his radio stations, which he built back up again. Then they imprisoned him and placed him in solitary confinement. And he kept preached after he was released. Then they took over his Church and turned it into a military barracks to silence him. And through civil disobedience backed by the poor, peasant, mestizo and indigenous peoples he seized back control of the Cathedral even with the army's bullets pointed to him. Then finally when he preached his last sermon while doing mass, he was assassinated in 1980.
Jimmy Carter was the president of the United States at the same time Oscar Romero was Archbishop(1977-1981). He came in promising as one of his election campaigns to change the United States government's policy on human rights. Previous government's of Richard Nixon, Ford and Kissinger as their advisor backed a wave of repressive regimes that repressed human rights in Latin America and the developing world for Cold War purposes. Carter came in promising to prioritise human rights. Just like Oscar Romero he spoke about human rights as being something important. Unlike Romero however he was not consistent. On some issues, such as Chile, Argentina and Guatemala he cut military support for repressive regimes that engaged in murder and torture. However in other instances he continued the Cold War policy of strategic interests such as continuing the Ford-Kissinger policy of backing the Indonesian military's genocidal occupation of East Timor that resulted in the extermination of 200,000 people through an increase of military assistance. When human rights groups, including prominent clergy in the Catholic Church as well as Catholic relief services sought to give reports of what was going on on the ground to Congress, the Carter Administration produced reports either minimising the extent of the crimes and in many cases openly covering for the Indonesian government and stonewalling human rights activists. Carter would do the same thing in El Salvador. His administration continued arms sales to the regime for Cold War purposes and because of the election of 1980 to prove he was being "tough communism" against domestic criticisms. Romero would be assassinated that year and the arms sales continued. It would take the murder of 4 American nuns who's bodies where thrown in a mass grave for Carter to finally suspend arms sales. But that suspension would only last for a month. Because the last thing his administration does in the final weeks of January 1981 is resume those arm sales, which where then increased by President Reagan. These quotes below firstly show Romero's prophetic defense of human rights against the repressive leaders. It secondly shows a contrast between someone who lives and dies for human rights consistently and someone who inconsistently supports human rights depending on the politics. To use a Biblical reference we kind of see a David and Nathan moment here. Here are some of the quotes:
"I'd like to make a special appeal to the men in the army. Brothers, each one of you is one of us. We are the same people. The farmers and peasants that you kill are your own brothers and sisters. When you hear the words of a man telling you to kill, think instead of the words of God. Thou shalt not kill. No soldier is obliged to obey an order contrary to the law of God. In his name, and in the name of our tormented people, who have suffered so much and who's laments cry out to heaven. I implore you. I beg you. I order you. Stop....the repression!"(1980 speech before assassination)
"The omnipotence of these national security regimes, the total disrespect they display towards individuals and their rights, the total lack of ethical consideration shown in the means that are used to achieve their ends, turn national security into an idol, which, like the god Molech, demands the daily sacrifice of many victims in its name. The legitimate security that the state ought to seek for its members is cruelly perverted, for in the name of national security the insecurity of the individual becomes institutionalized"(Fourth Pastoral Letter)
"Because you are a Christian and because you have shown that you want to defend human rights, I venture to set forth for you my pastoral point of view concerning this news and to make a request. I am very worried by the news that the government of the United States is studying a form of abetting the arming of EI Salvador by sending military teams and advisors to "train three Salvadoran batallions in logistics, communications and intelligence." If this information from the newspapers is correct, the contribution of your government, instead of promoting greater justice and peace in EI Salvador, will without doubt sharpen the injustice and repression against the organizations of the people who repeatedly have been struggling to gain respect for their most fundamental human rights."(1980 Letter to President Carter)
"If it is true that last November "a group of six Americans were in El Salvador...providing$200,000 in gasmasks and flak jackets and instructing about their use against demonstrators," you yourself should be informed that it is evident since then that the security forces, with better personal protection and efficiency, have repressed the people even more violently using lethal weapons. For this reason, given that as a Salvadoran and as archbishop of the Archdiocese of San Salvador I have an obligation to see that faith and justice reign in my country, I ask you, if you truly want to defend human rights, to prohibit the giving of this military aid to the Salvadoran government Guarantee that your government will not intervene directly or indirectly with military, economic, diplomatic or other pressures to determine the destiny of the Salvadoran people."(1980 Letter to President Carter)
"It would be unjust and deplorable if the intrusion of foreign powers were to frustrate the Salvadoran people, were to repress them and block their autonomous decisions about the economic and political path that our country ought to follow. It would violate a right which we Latin American bishops meeting in Puebla publicly recognized when we said: "The legitimate self-determination of our people that permits them to organize according to their own genius and the march of their history and to cooperate in a new international order." I hope that your religious sentiments and your feelings for the defense of human rights will move you to accept my petition, avoiding by this action worse bloodshed in this suffering country."(1980 Letter to President Carter)

I've had more traffic related injuries than I’d like to admit, so it makes sense that I work with self-driving cars to make the roads safer. I am passionate about engineering and I love my job. I’ve lived in three different states in the US so far and have had a lot of fun experiences like; singing Taylor Swift songs with friends while walking the empty streets of Lincoln Nebraska, hanging out with friends being goofy by pebble beach in Brooklyn at night and riding electric scooters on the streets of San Francisco at midnight. Okay, maybe I just love exploring places at night. I do wake up real early though.
I love hearing about what makes other people passionate. I’m a creature of contradictions; an active bookworm, an early riser who likes lazy Sunday mornings.

2023.03.25 04:41 StepwiseUndrape574 GTA 6 Fan Made 4K Concept Trailer Rendered In Unreal Engine 5 Is Drop Dead Gorgeous

Rockstar Games can't release Grand Theft Auto VI fast enough, though as we eagerly (and impatiently) await for the next installment in the long-running GTA franchise, fan made trailers have us drooling at what the actual product could look like. The latest one comes from TeaserPlay, which used Unreal Engine 5 to render several different locations in stunning detail.
The actual game isn't likely to use UE5. Rumor has it that Rockstar Games is leaning on its own proprietary RAGE9 graphics engine, and that's both plausible and, in our opinion, very likely to be true. TeaserPlay acknowledges this in the description to its concept trailer, suggesting it wanted to render several possible locations in UE5 so we'd have something to compare with down the line.
Check it out below...
Play
In the order they appear, the trailer showcases Vice City, San Fierro, Las Venturas, and Liberty City. The shots inside what appears to be a high-rise apartment complex in Las Venturas look especially crisp as the camera pans over a carpet and into a kitchen island with some veggies and pasta in the background, though it's far from the only scene that stands out.
"I/we use the most powerful features of Unreal Engine, such as ray tracing, lumen, nanite [virtualized geometry], screen ppace reflections, and MetaHuman so that the graphics are as close as possible to a next-gen sandbox game," TeaserPlay states.
There are a ton of leaks and rumors surrounding GTA 6. One of the more recent ones suggest there will be at least two playable protagonists, one of which is a Latina woman. The franchise hasn't featured a playable female character in a long time.
Rockstar Games has been rather short on details for the next installment, though it has at least confirmed that GTA 6 is in development.
"With the unprecedented longevity of GTA V, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series," the devloper shared in a blog post last February. "With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered—and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway."
No release date has been mentioned, though Rockstar Games will share its next earnings report in early August. It's possible we will get an update at that time.

2023.03.25 04:31 NegotiationJaded8753 Planning a honeymoon and first time trip to Costa Rica

Hi, I was wondering if someone could provide advice as I am in the process of planning a potential honeymoon to Costa Rica.
We are looking for a mix of relaxing beach vacation and rainforest/ wild life and nature viewing.
I am certain we want to go to La Fortuna for 3 nights but am torn where we want the other three nights of our trip to be.
I noticed that Guanacaste was very popular but am concerned because I was planning on flying in and out of San Jose. The price of transportation and the logistics of scheduling all that seemed complicated and expensive to me. Would it be a big mistake to only spend all our time in la fortuna?
Would anyone recommend a travel agency? Or is that viewed as a waste of money? I’ve never used one before but have also not traveled extensively outside of the country except to visit family. Also, are restaurants generally walking distances to hotels in La fortuna or should I make sure to look for hotels that have a lot of amenities or is close to town?

2023.03.25 04:30 ItsYaBoiSkinniPeen Not sure what to do

I (20F) have had a crack in my tooth for a while and realized it was because of a cavity left untreated. I had some pain eating on that side of my mouth so I stopped eating on it and everything was fine. Tonight, I have been having some pain and come to realize there is now a hole that takes up about 1/3 of my tooth. My pain is bad and I now have a headache because of it. There aren’t any dentists in my area who take my insurance so I’m not sure what to do. How do I make this pain go away? Right now I’m planning on taking extra strength Tylenol and putting an ice pack on my face.

2023.03.25 04:29 StepwiseUndrape574 Street Thugs Rejoice, Rockstar Confirms GTA 6 And Work Is Well Underway

It's been around eight and a half years since the last major installment in the Grand Theft Auto series, the longest gap ever in a franchise that spans seven main titles. So when is the next one coming? We can't say for sure, but Rockstar Games has not finally confirmed that there will in fact be a Grand Theft Auto 6, and that it is deep in development.
A new game in the franchise feels long overdue, though Grand Theft Auto V, which surpassed 150 million units sold last summer, and GTA Online have continued to scratch that itch for virtual wanton mayhem. It remains to be seen what the next entry brings, but we can assume (or at least hope) it will take full advantage of the latest hardware capabilities.
"With the unprecedented longevity of GTA V, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series," Rockstar Games stated in a blog post. "With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered—and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway."
Grand Theft Auto V Characters Rockstar Games doesn't come right out and say "GTA 6" but whatever the title, this will be the sixth main installment. It follows GTA V (2013), GTA IV (2008), GTA: San Andreas (2004), GTA: Vice City (2002), GTA III (2001), GTA 2 (1999), and the original GTA release (1997). That's 25 years of GTA, folks.
It seems more than plausible that GTA 6 will tap into the hardware capabilities of the latest generation game consoles (Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5) and graphics cards (Ampere and RDNA 2), given that a remaster of GTA V is headed to systems on next month.
As to what GTA 6 will bring to the table, supposed leaks and rumors have been all over the map. There's been chatter of a return to Miami with Liberty City and Vice City making appearances, and players being able to assume the role of a drug lord. GTA 6 is also rumored to be the most expansive title in the franchise yet.
For now we'll have to keep guessing, as Rockstar Games says it will be "sharing more as soon as we are ready." Waiting is the hard part, but knowing GTA 6 is happening and is deep in development will have to suffice for the time being.

2023.03.25 04:23 StepwiseUndrape574 GTA 6 Weapons: What Could We Use?

Weapons have always been an important aspect of the GTA franchise, and it's safe to assume that GTA 6 will have an extensive arsenal of weapons for players to choose from.
While there has been no official confirmation about what weapons will be available in GTA 6, there have been some rumors and speculations about what we could potentially see.
One popular theory is that the game could feature more futuristic weapons, such as laser guns or other advanced technology. This would be a departure from the more realistic weapons that have been featured in previous GTA games.
Another theory is that the game could feature more realistic weapons, but with a greater emphasis on customization. This could include the ability to add different attachments and modifications to weapons, allowing players to truly personalize their arsenal.
There have also been rumors that the game could feature weapons from previous GTA games, such as the chainsaw from GTA San Andreas or the flamethrower from GTA Vice City. While this is a possibility, it's important to keep in mind that these are just rumors and should be taken with a grain of salt.
Ultimately, the weapons in GTA 6 are anyone's guess at this point. However, it's safe to assume that Rockstar Games will continue to create a diverse and exciting array of weapons for players to use.

2023.03.25 04:19 Sad_Border952 Closed yesterday in Chicago

After multiple years and searching in multiple markets - Joshua tree, San Diego, marin county, we finally closed on a home in Chicago.
We used Wells Fargo for financing, the team was Cali based so moved incredibly quickly and were amazing.
SFH and we locked a 5.375 rate 45 days prior to closing. Then paid 7k and leveraged a relationship discount to land at 4.875% 30 year fixed.
Now starting to manage the ever growing list of things to handle.
Any suggestions? Feels great after so long. I’m 33 and moved to SF in 2011 with 0 net worth. I had to borrow my first months rent.
I’m ecstatic. Best of luck to you all!

2023.03.25 04:17 Red-Droid-Blue-Droid What is normal after local anesthetic injection for filing?

An old lower left filling fell out and my dentist is on vacation. I went to one dentist who wanted to do a root canal + crown right away. I wasn't sure, so I went to another dentist who didn't want to do a root canal and crown, just a new filling. She did give me a referral to an endodontist just in case.
The numbing shot was pretty painful. I don't think I've had a shot that painful before. I now having pain where the injection was, and that area of my cheek is swollen and slightly warm. I can feel where the injection was in my gums/cheek tissue. I think she hit a nerve because sometimes the area tingles, feels tight, and hurts.
Should I be concerned about infection? Was this dentist just bad at giving a shot? Is it normal for swollen cheeks to be a tad warm? I've never had such a painful post filling experience before.

2023.03.25 04:14 coIdwarkid How to feel better about having bad/missing teeth

I have horrible teeth, my front teeth/smile look good luckily it’s the back teeth that are messed up so it isn’t obvious when I talk or smile. I grew up poor and was never taken to the dentist as a kid. Now that money isn’t an issue I’ve been frequenting the dentist and had a lot of work done and 3 teeth extracted (which is a lot, I know) that I’m planning on replacing with implants as soon as I can. However my self esteem has taken a major hit over the fact that I’m in my early twenties and have so many teeth already, usually I have great self esteem but I’ve been crying and beating myself up over not taking care of myself ever since I started my treatments. Will I feel better once I get implants. Has anyone else been through this?

  23. The Wizards had fewer than 10 turnovers in 3 out of their last 4 games.
  24. It's the first time an opponent scores vs. the San Antonio Spurs exactly 136 points, but it's the 12th time this season an opponent scores 136+ points vs. the Spurs, which translates to a 0-12 record in this scenario (0-13 in 135+ points as well).
  25. It was the 7th time this season that an opponent scores 60%+ from the field vs. the Spurs, and in all but one of these cases, the opponent shot 50%+ from 3PT - including tonight. It's actually the 2nd lowest 3PT% when an opponent scores 60%+ from the field vs. the Spurs, as the rests were 51.7% from 3PT or more (once 45.0%). The Spurs are now 0-7 in these scenarios.
  26. It's the 17th time this season an opponent scores 50%+ from 3 vs. the Spurs, and for the first time, a team scored exactly 50% from 3PT vs. the Spurs this season (once 51.1% & once 48.1%).

  32. The Spurs were 9/15 from the free throw line tonight, which is 60% from the FT - that's the lowest FT% a team had against the Wizards this season, so far. It's also the 3rd least amount of free throws made against the Wizards this season.

Players:
  1. Bradley Beal missed his 24th game of the season after reaching his 50th game of the season a few days ago. Kyle Kuzma missed his 10th game of the season, including 9 out of his last 22 games. Both players missed together two consecutive games.
  2. The Spurs came tonight quite injured, missing Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan, Khem Birch, Charles Bassey, and Romeo Langford.
  3. Corey Kispert was in the starting lineup for the 37th time this season, while Deni Avdija had his 36th.
  4. Corey Kispert had a career-high of 26 points tonight, breaking the 25 points he had twice in his career - once this season & once last season. Of course, it's also a season-high for him. He also tied season-high FGM (9 - also tying career-high) & FGA (14). He also had a career-high of free throw attempts in a single game - 5 free throw attempts.
  5. Corey Kispert tied his career-high of 6 3-pointers made, which is also a season-high for him, as he had 5 3-pointers twice this season. 6. Corey Kispert was 2/5 (40%) from the free throw line tonight - it's the first time in his NBA career that he missed more than a single free throw in a single game (!!!)
  7. Corey Kispert's 40% from the free throw (2/5 FT tonight) is the lowest he had when he made a single free throw or more.
  8. Delon Wright had a season-high of 24 points, that's the most he scored since January 25th, 2021, as the Pistons won under his leadership over the 76ers 119-104 - he had 28 points back then, which still remains as his career-high.
  9. Delon Wright had a season-high in field goals made - 9 FGM & field goals attempted with 14 FGA

  17. Kristaps Porzingis had 0 personal fouls tonight, for the 4th time this season.
  18. Kristaps Porzingis scored his 1,422 points of the season - keeps on shattering his total points in a single season (which was 1,196 points in his sophomore year, in 66 GP). If he maintains this, he will also break his PPG record of 22.7 (48 GP), which currently stands at 22.9 PPG.
  19. Deni Avdija had his 10th double-double of the season (9th with points & rebounds, once with points & assists (1 reb away from a triple-double)).
  20. Deni Avdija had his 5th game of the season with 20+ points, two of them vs. the Spurs (including 25 points career-high that still stands). 5 games with 20+ points for Deni Avdija is also a career-high for 20+ points in a single season (he had it once in his rookie season & once in his sophomore season).
  21. Deni Avdija had the 3rd game of his career with 20+ points & 10+ rebounds, and also for the 2nd time this season (he did it once last season).

2023.03.25 04:10 KatesConkers Day 2 and I’m Feeling Defeated

I just got my first set of trays yesterday. It was uncomfortable for sure, but I expected it to be. I went through some paranoia of “oh my gosh my buttons are coming off” and “oh my gosh my trays are breaking when I take them off.” So I went back in for a quick appointment to check that my buttons were still on, which they were, so we were all good.
However, when I was there, the person helping me showed me the notches on my top tray that were pushing on my teeth, just to explain more how it’s working. That was fine, however, it made me realize that that’s not what I wanted.
During my initial consultations, I told the staff very explicitly that I was only doing Invisalign because of my crooked front bottom teeth. Because they’re crooked, they’re hard to floss and hard to get totally clean, because they overlap. I actually really like my smile already, and that’s because you can’t see my bottom teeth when I smile.
So I emailed the orthodontist/dentist and asked if I could just do bottom trays. He told me I could not because they want to make sure my bite stays aligned. I’m okay with doing top and bottom trays, but I don’t want my smile to change. My two top front teeth are slightly rounded and tipped backwards, but I like them like that. He told me that the final plan or “ideal” was to straighten them. I don’t want that, and frankly, I never told them that was my goal.
He told me that it is my decision, and he wants me to be totally happy with the results, and that if I want, we can, and should, rescan and order new trays.
This has made me feel down about the experience, and it was only day two. I feel like I was never asked what my ideal mouth was. I was asked why I was getting or considering Invisalign, but I think they assumed that I would want to change my entire mouth and straighten everything. My dentist is closed on the weekends and it’s Friday night, so I have to live with the buttons on my teeth for the weekend, which I’m already feeling insecure about. I don’t want to wear the trays currently because I don’t want my teeth to move.
In conclusion, I feel like this is an obstacle, and one I’m not sure can be avoided. I told him that I’d like to rescan and laid out my expectations, but if he responds that my top teeth have to change in order to fix my bottom teeth, Invisalign won’t be an option for me. I don’t want to change a part of myself that I’ve had for 25 years, not to mention a part of myself that I really like.
My friends and family and boyfriend are supportive, but because they’re not going through the same thing, it’s hard to feel understood. I’m a person who likes to be in control and is not very patient, so being stuck in this position for the weekend has me feeling down and defeated.
Anyone gone through something similar?
