2023.06.09 00:13 Bl1tz-Kr1eg Analysing the Second West Russian War Part 2 - International diplomacy
Alright, so this is part 2 of my analysis of the 2nd WRW. Part 1, where I looked at the pure statistics, is
here,
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While the outcome of the Second WRW will mostly be decided on the ground, international actors can play quite the role in giving Russia a fighting chance, or alternatively hastening their downfall. In this post I will analyse the diplomatic activity that might surround the conflict, along with the possible inputs of the following:-
The Pakt The US Japan Italy And some others. For continuity from my last post, we're assuming a scenario where both powers are somewhat successful going into the mid-70's. For Germany, Fash Speer, with the Pakt including Iran or the UAR, or even both. For Russia, a decently competent unifier like Zhukov, Batov, Suslov, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk or Viatka, but no one too extreme on either end. We're also assuming the war begins in 1978, giving Russia about 6-7 years to consolidate and re-arm post reunification.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So lets start with the war itself. But not what's actually going on. Rather, what it would look like to the international community?
Well, to begin with, a long-dead power has just risen from the ashes of a radio-silent wasteland (where no one knew what has been going on for two decades) possibly following a radically different ideology from its predecessor, the USSR. This new Russia is now, to the disbelief of everyone, is going after the first power of Europe and one of the world's superpowers - a nation that already put it down twice - with a complete disadvantage in manpower, material and support. To anyone with a brain, and a less than average knowledge of domestic affairs in both nations, this is a losing fight, and you wouldn't be ridiculed for suggesting Germany's got this under control.
But there's more going on.
In the background, a web of diplomacy laid by both sides for half a decade prior is now starting to come to fruition. Let's see the options.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Pakt - The Pakt by the mid-70's has the potential to be massive. Covering half of Europe in most runs, and possibly more, along with significant influence in the Middle East. People tend to forget the Pakt in their WRW headcanons, but it really is a major player here. After all, is the Pakt not a defensive alliance? But let's assume that none of the nations of the Pakt (apart from Finland and Iran for reasons I'll elaborate on later) want to get directly involved. Germany can still rely on the material and diplomatic support from the entirety of the Pakt, as well as neutral Pakt-aligned nations like Sweden and the UAR. These nations would most definitely condemn Russia, and would cut all trade to Russia, as minor as it is. Additionally, the Zollverein, an EU of sorts, has enough trade flowing within it to keep Germany and it's industry afloat for the duration of the war.
The United States - Surely, the United States will step up! Upon the commencement of the WRW, the last beacon of liberty will waste no time in embargoing the Pakt, and flooding Russia with 5.56cm Democracy! Or will it? Lets consider a few things. Assuming Speer is in charge, and has spent the last ten years signing trade agreements with the OFN and lifting embargoes,
why is the US going to just throw away a massive revenue stream for what is most likely a losing fight? As mentioned above, for all observers this is most likely a losing fight for Russia, and the US needs to balance supporting Russia and not antagonising another nuclear superpower when they already have their hands full with Japan.
That's not to say the US won't covertly support Russia with supplies. American Equipment is far superior to Russian Equipment here, and it's use could help balance the scales in the conflict. But the most likely scenario is for American support to amount to covert aid and nothing more.
This may change if Russia wins some quick early victories, and the prospect of a Russia victory grows. In that case, the US may decide it's worth putting all their eggs into the Russian basket, and one could expect diplomatic and material support to grow.
TLDR - It's gonna be a careful balancing act.
Japan - On the other side of Asia and the Pacific lies Japan. I'm gonna start with uncomfortable conversations here - Japan and Germany have very little reason to be antagonistic to each other. Their spheres largely do not interact, and Japan has far more pressing concerns in the Pacific.
On the flip side though any American supported Russia would be seen as a threat to Japanese interests, especially since the prospect of a victorious Russia turning their attention to Primorsky and Vladivostok isn't unrealistic.
Unless someone who is explicitly pro-Japan is in charge, actually providing concrete benefits to the Sphere, there is very little chance of Japan throwing their weight behind Russia.
Italy - Most people wouldn't expect Italy to be Russia's greatest supporter, but hear me out. Italy has a lot of reasons to want to fuck Germany over, as a Russian victory and collapse of the Pakt could see Italy swoop in and pick up the pieces, replacing Germany as Europe's first power. I can see Italy throwing some support behind the Russians, mostly through material and diplomatic support. Considering Italy, even at its weakest, controls the Suez and the Mediterranean, and has a healthy oil supply from the Gulf, an embargo on or from Germany could be weathered. The Italians, nuclear armed, know that Germany wouldn't dare fight both Russia and Italy together.
However, it's still a balancing act, given that Germany literally borders the Italian state. It's just as likely that Italy could support Germany too.
The Pakt (part 2) - I said earlier that Iran and Finland could get directly involved. And it depends entirely on momentum. Should the Germans weather the offensive and begin pushing back, Finland may consider it well worth their time to open up another front and take Karelia back. Iran could potentially share a border with Russia, should the Russians decide to absorb Central Asia, and it's very possible that the Iranians could see the 2WRW as a threat to their own security, similarly throwing their full weight behind Germany should the latter start winning.
Around the world - China - Too busy. India - Bigger fish to fry. Iberia, Britain, Brazil, Argentina - Depends on alignment.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Equipment and supplies. We've already established that some powers will send minor to significant amounts of aid to Russia. But how might this look on the field?
To begin with,
Japan is the only country that could provide significant amounts of aid to Russia, if they wish to. Why? Ports. Russia has
ONE port that it could use throughout the year, and that is Magadan. The arctic ports? Frozen half the year. European ports? Kriegsmarine says hello. Japan can largely bypass this by supplying aid through Manchuria, but regardless of who provides the aid, be it the OFN, CPS or Italy,
there is no chance in hell they provide enough to arm every single one of the millions of Russians flooding into Moskowien. Most likely, foreign aid will be limited to select elite units, while the vast majority of the Russian Army is equipped with domestically produced (and likely outdated) equipment.
On the other hand, the Germans would have access to their own domestically produced arms, as well as material produced around the Pakt.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nukes
The nuclear option was never off the table. Both are nuclear armed nations, but to lump them into the same category is ludicrous. Russia by the mid-70's has at most five to ten nukes, mostly low-yield, with the first one coming only in 1972. There's no way they can mass-produce nukes with most of their experts dead or emigrated, and with an industry that is a shadow of the USSR's. Germany, on the other hand, has tens of thousands of various tonnage, and even if most are in disrepair or disuse, they still have orders of magnitude more.
Although I think a nuclear exchange is highly unlikely, someone pointed out in the last post that Germany can and most likely would use tactical nukes if pushed far enough, and I agree to an extent. Where I disagree with most on this sub is 1) When they'd use one and 2) The response. So, here's a scenario I want to propose :-
1) When - Moskowien is a money sink, and largely useless as anything more than a buffer state, at least that is what most of the sub thinks. I think it's worth more, but Moskowien is still worth less than the other three RK's. If the Russians begin to threaten Ostland, Ukraine or the Caucasus, I can definitely see Germany consider the nuclear option, issuing threats. If Russia pushes too far, off go 10 low-yield tactical nukes to turn a few field armies into a smouldering crater in the ground.
2) The response - Russia, of course, would be furious. Off goes the entire Russian arsenal in response. A few get intercepted, three or four proceed to turn a few frontline cities in Ostland or Ukraine to ash (realistically the Russian's don't have long range capabilities to hit Berlin or Vienna only six years after reunification). Well done, the Russians have no more nukes left, and Germany is PISSED.
A few people think this would spur an all-out OFN and CPS response, but I ask the question - will the US and/or Japan really want to start an all-out nuclear war over a few low-yield nukes in a country that wasn't even on the map ten years ago? More likely there would be widespread condemnation of the Reich, with the OFN, CPS, Italy and even some Pakt nations embargoing and diplomatically isolating Germany, but no all-out nuclear war.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, that's it. Personally, my opinion from last time stands. Russia's best chance is to strike fast and hard, capitalising on a moment of weakness, and keeping their aims limited to Moskowien and the Caucasus. If the war drags on, Germany just gets stronger as the Russians lose momentum, and a war of attrition would be disastrous.
This is just my analysis, and all this is subjective. I'd love to know what you guys think. Perhaps next week, I'll analyse in detail the industrial and logistical situations of each side.

2023.06.08 23:55 Natural-Put6489 Retirement in Panama
I will be retiring soon and I'm thinking of living in panama. Aside from the humidity I hear it's a very nice place to live . I envision beautiful greenery, a small house with enough land for a garden a chicken coop and maybe a horse . I don't want a big city just a little town that can provide the conveniences of living. I've read Costa Rica and Panama are some of the best choices to retire. Can anyone expound on their experiences in living in Panama !

2023.06.08 23:47 Lolmanmagee Auto Attack : the lost Murky build
60% of murkies i see go Q build, it is the most popular one (despite it being his WORST build IMO, but this is not about that)
30% of murkies i see go E build, it is less popular but starting to become respected as it is very legit survivability and macro potential.
10% of murkies have no idea what the builds are and just go silly stuff like time to krill into rejuv bubble and wrath of cod into making inky.
(not gonna count meme build as even though it is funny, i don't think anyone actually mains that build)
but there is one pretty solid build that i see NO ONE do and that is auto attack build. (0-3-3-0-3-1-0) on the surface it looks like just slime build but with a weird 4 and 7, but it is actually very different in how it plays.
ill walk you through the basic theory of the build because i think it is completely unknown for the most part.
the first talent in the build is living the dream, its actually really interesting as the spell power effect works as a hybrid between the macro of tuffer fish and the team fight of slime quest and in some niche ways it actually performs better than the other 2 in those regards despite it being a hybrid, on the macro side of things it can work the way tuffer fish does (W > Q > mostly cleared wave) once it hits 10% spell power, which is almost immediate and once you get to level 7 and being at 25% spell power you can simply (W > mostly cleared wave) as the spell damage is not reliant on you casting slime and around level 11 you get to where the W will even one shot warrior minions with the spell power which while you usually can spare to walk over and Q as well, it is nice and for macro it actually slightly surpasses tuffer fish as it effects not only your W but your Q as well, in testing i have found that this level 4 on giants it saves you 2 entire seconds compared to tuffer fish (and 5 seconds compared to slime quest...) its nothing as crazy as letting you solo a bruiser at 4, but it is still relevant how it is better.
as for its combat hybridization it gives you 74 bonus damage on Q > Q which is only half as much as with slime quests 125 but for several reasons, this is better than it appears and ill list them out sequentially.
1 : you get it immediately and don't need to complete slime quest; while living the dream *technically* has a quest, assuming you stay alive it will be fully complete by about the time you hit level 5 which is a incomparably better speed to slime time.
2 : it effects your W still; your W does not come into play in every fight but it his highly relevant for octo combos and the odd zoning puffer fish that gets ignored.
3 : it effects the damage of your FIRST Q; this does not matter often, but the spell power boost increases the damage of your first non boosted Q as well which is kinda niche but can sometimes come in clutch for a kill under towers where you can only get 1 slime off before they are in the gate.
4 : combos with time to krill; will talk about time to krill more specifically a bit later but suffice it to say increasing its damage by a straight 25% is solid.
(really like this 4, even outside aa build iv been trying to incorporate it into a hybrid E/AA build, which is kinda untested but has decent theory even if it has not worked that great in the few games i tried it)
but alas that is enough of the 4 now onto the 7 : time to krill.
the basic idea of this 7 is that you sacrifice some of the utility of kiting for just RAW damage and stickiness, and the damage is actually pretty good, baseline it makes each aa deal 28 bonus damage which is alright if not crazy and living the dream bumps it up to 35 bonus damage per AA and now your getting into the territory of having a actually pretty good auto attack instead of the normal murky AA which is basically useless but that you might as well use. (murky base AA is only 62 so 35 bonus damage is a more than 50% damage increase on it and puts it up with real hero AAs like mei or anub) but another highly relevant part of this 7 is the slow, not only is it straight up by 5% the superior of slime times slow (30% slow vs 35% max slow) which is great cause you did not pick that talent, but splitting your slow between your Q and the AA gives pretty good utility as for example if your Q is still on a 3 second cooldown but someone low hp walks past you, you have the opportunity to AA them twice and apply a slow that is good enough that you can chase them down (its a 14% slow for 2 aas) and apply your slime slow and then go in for a kill and even though the damage is done through a DOT which is not usually how you want to be dealing your damage, it generally does not bite you in the ass as it is not your primary damage source.
ill take this mid section to compare octo combos damage potential as 99% of the time octo is required even though i do love when im able to take march. (also i decided to differentiate on whether or not you get the slime off after the combo as even though you usually can, you sometimes cant and its not really part of the true combo) [the combo is Q > W > R if you dont play murky and have read this far along for whatever reason]
in Q build (0-1-1-2-3-1) (Q build can tbh take slime AA or fish oil so ill list both those variants)
the combo deals : 1045 damage (1451 with second slime)
in Q build 2 (0-1-1-2-3-2)
the combo deals : 1451 damage (1969 with second slime)
in E build (0-2-2-2-1-2)
the combo deals : 1822 damage (2103 with second slime)
in AA build (0-3-3-2-3-1)
the combo deals : 1165 damage (1657 with second slime)
as you can see E build octo is still king and AA build octo is actually kinda middling, dealing less damage than Q build that goes fish oil, but i think it was important to discuss this with science numbers instead of vague statements. (although AA build will often get a bit more damage out just due to there usually being time to krill stacks on the target and the general sticky playstyle)
i don't think i need to explain fish tank, it works just the same as in Q build the only difference is AA build does not kite as much so life steal is even more important. (even though Q build "technically" gets 15~more life steal from their Q, in reality this just almost never matters, if anything AA build boosting W life steal matters sometimes vs anti heal)
16 is when the build really comes into its own just like in any murky build, if you have played Q build variant 0 you known how powerful this 16s playstyle is, but in AA build it is even better; kinda hard to describe but time to krill + slime AA deals substantial damage;
if you dont mind shameless self promotion here is a clip of me using the build at 16.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNgHx1a_sOY you can see me krillin the kharizam and dealing massive damage with slime AA 16 and then later the raw damage of the build allowed me to kill a full hp zuljin who was standing right next to his fort.
onto 20s; all of them are actually good in this build.
- big tuna kahuna is amazing if there is a nova or zera that one shots you before you can start life stealing vs them. (id even call it essential in that situation)
- making inky i feel is the most situational of them all as already few heroes can withstand you in a 1v1, but if you dont need more tank and the ult upgrades dont make sense in the matchup, you might as well pick it as it is more damage.
- and a shark too is actually really interesting as the spell power from living the dream 4 actually effects it and you can get pretty spicy kills with it as now the octo combo deals 2694 damage (3061 with second slime) which if you scroll back up to the octo comparisons section, is a EXTREME amount of damage relative to what you had before. (even though levels do corrupt it slightly, this test was of course at 20 while the others were at 16, but 4 levels does not double your spell power lmao)
- infinite murlocs is actually super crazy in this, march already deals surprising damage and again, the spell power from your 4 effects it which basically makes you have supreme god levels of damage while you are casting this; of course its only weakness is that you miss out on octo by getting march 10, which is just throwing in most comps.
now lastly i guess i should talk about its obvious Achilles heel, you lose the stacks on death; this is not as bad as it sounds as the stacks come back super quickly and if you are feeding to the absurd level that you consistently have below 25% spell power, that's a you problem; murky is super survivable, especially post 13. (if this is actually the case tho, just do E build until you get more comfortable it gives you basically get infinite survivability)
although it is annoying that you lose the spell power at kinda the worst time, as when you respawn you generally just super extended fight and want to return to laning; but its really not the end of the world to Q > W waves for a rotation and you get the stacks back pretty fast. (its only really bad if you die like a idiot at level 5~ then you lose alot of power and gotta Q> W > Q waves, but you should not really be doing team fights that early anyway unless its braxis)
TLDR ; the build is (0-3-3-0-3-1-0) its pretty good and people dont use it much, would recommend if your comfortable with murky.

2023.06.08 23:44 Snoo_96320 Collingwood suggestions
Hi Melbourne fam, chucking on my boots today and going for a big inner city drive from the South East to visit Lamington Drive in Collingwood. Very much excited as I’m bringing my elderly father along to have a squizz. I’ll be googling throughout the day but just seeing if any inner city peeps could suggest a simple eatery the old man may appreciate? He’s a simple man who appreciates the basics like a seniors meal at the pub so anything parma, fish, sausage roll like etc. Unfortunately for him he may get dragged into my jam of op and vinyl shopping so hopefully he can last the day. Thanks so much!

2023.06.08 23:33 ActualIyCameron I lost my safe space, don’t know what to do.
Me and my little brother live mostly with my dad in the city, but when I go to see my moms on the country side I’m always really stoked cause it’s in the middle of basically now where, far from the city and I’m outside all day and I barley use my phone. (which makes me sleep better at night too)
My mom called yesterday and told me she and her partner were breaking up. when she called she was on FaceTime in a new house and she had already moved all our stuff.
without telling me, or my little brother. how can she just not talk to us for a month and then suddenly call up and say everything’s different? this isn’t the first time this has happened, I was just hoping it wouldn’t happen this time.
not only were we moving, we were moving closer to the city. which fucking sucks because I can’t be near the city cause there’s a trillion people there. not only were we moving closer to the city, my moms partner was taking one of the cats with her.
the cat that I love, the cat that represents my old cat that died young. the cat that I fucking love so much.
the worst fucking part is she acts like I’m supposed to just be fine with all of this. “oh? we are moving? Great! oh? I’m never seeing my cat again? Great!”
fuck this shit, fuck my fucking stupid life. my only safe space, is now gone. sitting outside for hours with my cats and chickens, gone.
it’s all fucking gone, whenever I’m at my dads I’m always excited to know that at the end of the week I’ll get to visit my moms with an anxiety-free-weekend, and now I don’t even wanna go.
I don’t wanna face my mom, I don’t wanna go there. I’d rather stay at home forever and cry myself to sleep because THE ONLY place I’ve felt safe in is now gone.

2023.06.08 23:32 EntrepreneurBig9576 To all my Indian brethren out there. This is how I saved some money as an international student in New York and also some free guidance. Feel free to thank me in the comments.
| Hello people, As a college student, I initially thought I couldn’t afford it. Rent in New York is prohibitively expensive, the price of food is triple the amount I would have paid back home, and my NYU tuition bill put a nice $50,000 dent in my wallet each year. However, I was meticulous with my saving, and as a graduating senior, I have a few tips to share about saving money as a student in New York. Look for affordable housing Living in Manhattan or downtown Brooklyn may seem glamorous, but it can burn a hole in your pocket. If your college is in Manhattan, consider living in Queens, Brooklyn, or Jersey City to save money. If you’re attending a college in Brooklyn, look for places like Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, or Coney Island. Sure, you’ll have to travel an extra 30 minutes every day, but it’s worth it. And try to find apartments without broker fees. It can save you almost $500–$1000. And also, use Zillow. Another tip is to look for sublets or hunt for people looking for roommates in Facebook and WhatsApp groups. This way, you can talk to the people you’ll be living with and save on guarantor fees. Guarantor companies charge around 1 month’s rent in order to insure you. List of Affordable and safest neighborhoods in NYC (that i know): - Bay Ridge(Brooklyn)
- Dyker heights(Brooklyn)
- Journal Square(Jersey City)
- Forest Hills(Queens)
- Jackson Heights(Queens)
https://preview.redd.it/kp5twsdl2v4b1.png?width=1698&format=png&auto=webp&s=7243c478c37bb6c1a405debaad1013dcbf5622e2 https://nyc.maps.arcgis.com/apps/instant/sidebaindex.html?appid=8153f961507040de8dbf9a53145f18c4 Waive your college health insurance Saving over $4,000 per year sounds too good to be true, right? But trust me, it’s possible. You just need to know the right information. My wonderful friend, Sai, introduced me to a free health plan from a company called Kimber Health during class. Since I was hardly paying attention anyway, I filled out my application on the spot. At first, I was skeptical, but two weeks later, I received my insurance card backed by UnitedHealthcare. And just like that, I waived my NYU insurance and my roommates and I saved almost $15,000, which we used for our trip to Puerto Rico. Yeah, it was alright! Useful links: $0 health insurance for New Yorkers? That’s right! https://medium.com/@kimberhealth/0-healthcare-shouldnt-be-unbelievable-63d89ab6c325 Won’t the Essential Plan affect my immigration status? Nope! https://medium.com/@kimberhealth/wont-the-essential-plan-affect-my-immigration-status-ec9eeb0569b Cook at home NYC is notorious for its expensive food prices. I mean, who wants to pay $20 for a sandwich? The best way to save money on food every day is to cook at home. I know it’s tough as a student, but you can take turns cooking with your roommates or preparing food in advance for a couple of days. You can also make instant lunch, like a chicken salad. And say no to Uber Eats. Trust me, your wallet will thank you. Take advantage of discounted Metro cards and Museum visits Saving money in NYC can feel like a never-ending battle. But don’t worry, there are ways to make it easier. One of them is using Fair Fares NYC, a program that offers discounted metro cards to eligible New Yorkers. Thanks to my friend Sai, who introduced us to this program, my roommates and I save upwards of $60 per month. It may not be as much as health insurance savings, but it’s a consistent saving. And the best part? Immigration status is not affected. I did my research and spoke to an immigration lawyer, and it’s clearly mentioned on the NY state gov website that these details will not be shared with federal immigration authorities at any point in time. Note: This applies to Health Insurance saving too(Tip 2). Not a money-saving tip, but a money-earning tip Saving money is important, but so is earning it. Try to find on-campus employment as soon as you get admission. Each university has different ways of finding employment opportunities, so start by emailing someone and I’m sure they’ll help you find the right person. At the end of the day, it’s not just about saving more money, but also earning it. With these five proven ways to save money as an international student in NYC, you can focus on your studies and experiences instead of worrying about your finances. Or, with the money saved, you can take a nice tropical vacation after your finals. submitted by EntrepreneurBig9576 to u/EntrepreneurBig9576 [link] [comments] |
2023.06.08 23:32 Uncommonality Having a hard time finding things to do.
The writing in this game is amazing, and the views are gorgeous - the combat feels great.
But one thing I'm noticing is that the game seems very stingy with actually offering me things to do.
- Strangers appear when you get near, but they're mostly scavenger hunts that feel extremely intimidating on a world as large as this.
- Story missions are highlighted, but I explicitly don't want to rush them and miss the whole game.
- Hunting legendary animals is great, but there doesn't seem to be a way to locate them apart from stumbling upon their spots at random.
- Hunting in general is fun, but also frustrating. I literally cannot get a perfect pelt for the life of me, even when I sneak up to an animal, use my lasso and then knife-kill it, the pelt is always either poor or good. There's also not much point to it, because you can carry so little meat and every animal gives so much. Not to mention that it isn't worth anything so you can't even hunt to fund the camp, at least not when compared to robbing people on the road. A single platinum pocketwatch is worth more than like 6 deer carcasses carried to Pearson.
- Fishing is nice, I guess, but like Arthur says, it's very boring. Very accurate to real life fishing in that respect, though, I'll give it that.
- Bounties are fun, but there seem to be like 2 per city and not much else to do there apart from visit shops which all carry mostly identical items to every other town.
- There's home robbery tips, but I tried to find one and the directions were so frustratingly rare I gave up after searching for like half an hour.
- Poker is fun but I could just play that irl with my actual friends, so I don't really see the point personally. The pots are always really low so it's not even any good for making money.
I'm currently in, I think, the middle of chapter 2? Blackwater's area is completely red, and I just finished the Train Robbery where you use the oil wagon. Does the game open up further with more things to do if I do these Act 2 story missions?

2023.06.08 23:27 djdeforte Traveling to Latvia and I need drinking water advice
Ok so last time I was there was early around 2008. We’re visiting my wife’s family and they live far from the cities. The water in the grandparents house is unfiltered well water.
We are bringing our two children that drink water, only water because they don’t like juice. And they drink like fish. The’ll go through gallons of water.
We have no clue what to do for them while we’re over there. I know maybe we can get bottled water but it’s going to be like 8-10 bottles each a day. Does anyone have advice as to what we can do?

2023.06.08 23:18 Tattooedgundude Store Advice
Hey all. I’m expanding my pet store to sell a small amount of freshwater (only) fish supplies, and the basics for planted tanks. This shop isn’t a necessity for me financially so I am more interested in exceptional care vs profit and I want to set up an area with 9-12 tanks for predominantly community fish (tetra, barbs, molly, platy, etc). It’s possible i’ll have an African Cichlid tank down the road as well but that one wouldn’t apply to my following questions.
1.) When you’re shopping for fish, what tank sizes do you prefer to see, within reason?
2.) Are there specific fish/inverts/plants that you wish were available more often?
3.) As far as supplies go, are there brands you prefer over others? As a heads up, I have AquaClear, Fluval, Marineland and API in mind predominantly but am open to learning about what else is preferred.
My store mostly focuses on reptiles and terrariums but people are nonstop asking. I’m in the middle of a move to a larger location and I have a last minute decision to make whether or not to go forward with this idea. I do have fish keeping experience and have managed and ran a fish shop in the past. Currently the only other option for fish or fish supplies within a four hour drive is Petsmart, with one shop offering saltwater fish (no supplies, just fish) in my city.
Just curious from a hobbyists perspective to learn what is important to you to see and experience when you’re shopping at your preferred stores. Thanks for any input!

2023.06.08 22:41 Terianky [M4F] “-Will you go with me? -Always” ; A puzzling goth girl and a strange street guy meet each other while delving into occult mysteries. A story about an impossible love, esoteric secrets, and a hateful occult world.
<< The flickering red lights felt like they had a soul of their own. The beat dropped and the boom resounded in every clubber’s soul. The concussion blasts reverberated through the ears of the hundreds of people either yelling "what" at one another or pretending to hear what the other person had actually said and laughing drunkenly. There was a mosh pit of desperate souls holding out their cash at the bar hoping only one of the two bartenders would notice, there was the inevitable drunk dude-bro who wanted to start a fight, and there was a fair share of drunk unconsciousness. The “Rotterdam Club” was Stephen’s favorite place of business.
It was wall to wall people dancing erratically and the floor itself had become invisible under a sea of dancing feet. Despite it being hard to navigate through this mass of people, Stephen was like a fish in the water. He squeezed his way through the mass and could notice scattered pairs of interested eyes among the clubbers, some of these guests gave nods or even went out of their way to seek Stephen out. Then, Stephen would listen to their wants, swiftly bury his hand in his bag, and nonchalantly exchange a handshake with the customer where money and pills would be exchanged.
However, this specific night, Stephen wasn’t feeling right. For the last month, Stephen had been experiencing insomnia due to a series of weird nightmares, strange dreams which seemed to grow intense night after night. And in the last few days, a dark girl was frequently appearing in these dreams, a dark girl with dark omens drawn in blood. To work efficiently was becoming harder and harder for Stephen due to this. At the third hour after midnight, Stephen stopped in the middle of the club as all the clubbers formed a cyclone of drunken dancing, he stood still in the middle. As his eyes were scanning the venue for something interesting, his gaze fell on an intriguing dark silhouette facing away from him. A pale woman with a beautifully twisted aura stood still just like him a few feet away. Finally, she turned around and she stared back…as if she knew him, as if he knew her. And Stephen’s mind finally solved the puzzle as this girl’s image erupted in his stream of fractured memories…The girl in his nightmares, in his dreams, the dark omen, the goth girl who dies holding his hand. And for that moment, for both of them…time stopped. >>
Hey, I’m looking for a semi-literate partner to roleplay with. The story will take place in a rather big city which hides a few esoteric secrets. The vibe would be something in the middle between Stephen King-esque grittiness, Lovecraftian existential dread, and the interpersonal horror of the World of Darkness universe in addition to some Silent Hill bizarreries. Therefore, the themes of this story will be tied to esoteric thriller mysteries, interpersonal horror, and unattainable (toxic?) love which is my favorite thing to write/read about. The characters we play would be ordinary people who fall victim to the arbitrary and unknowable dark Supernatural. They have little to no Supernatural abilities or nature. They're humans who are just trying to survive.
If this genre of horror and thriller interests you. If stories of secret witch covens, underground cults, esoteric beings, and half-dead unknowable gods and demons entices you, or if you’re a big Silent Hill fan like me, then this RP might be real fun and a nice writing exercise in the genre for you. So, join me and let’s dive deep into this city’s intricate web of enigmas. A city where a girl recently died in mysterious conditions, where a boy is struggling with hallucinations of another world, where a man with glowing eyes is driving around at night hunting, where a veteran of war is following the possible trail of a murder cult, and where a school teacher is struggling to hide her true nature and true potential, all the while desperately and madly falling in love with each other in a world that cannot allow it.
I play in third person and use ref pics. I would like my partner to be able to create and manage multiple “NPC” characters since I will be doing the same. Also I would like my partner to have autonomy and to create plotlines as they wish. I am not a GM so please don’t expect that of me. I do not have any clear ideas of where the story goes for now, I only have my character kinda figured out but I’m sure that we can come up with something good if we put both our visions together. Please message me only if you have a character in mind with a brief bio and a ref pic.

2023.06.08 22:30 Nvnv_man Collection of online responses by Russians to the dam disaster—only about half believe the Russian authorities’ version that Ukraine caused it.
There’s been multiple narratives about the cause of the dam destruction, and its effects. Initially, Russians were more inclined to believe the authorities narrative. After hours and multiple versions, Russians started voicing their doubts online. If the comment section for a midsize newspaper in Siberia is any indication, they aren’t buying the story. Here’s a sampling of the progression of comments over a 24 hour period. First few hours: Most Blame Ukraine
Nothing surprising. This was exactly what was expected for a long time, because for more than a year now, Ukrainian troops have been intensively shelling the dam, and propagandists cherished thoughts of its collapse. This is exactly what happened today.
Well, as for the opinion of Ukraine and its "civilized" friends, that Russia is to blame for everything, that Western cynicism and hypocrisy no longer causes any surprise. Russia is doing everything right, so the successes of the Russian army are really significant! 👍
Uh huh, and who was guarding this place? A private military company?
The degree of degradation, destruction and catastrophe is already limitless. WHAT IS THIS ALL FOR!!???
If Ukraine considers this territory its own, then why does NATO allow it to destroy its hydraulic structures? And the old Anglo-Saxon principle operates, after us, deluge. 🔥
because of the [western] puppets in Ukraine
Why did they attack themselves at all, and have not been able to stop, for more than a year?
Ukraine and Ukrainians are consumables. Their problems are of little interest to the sheriff. [the west]
[one of the articles has quotes from Russian-installed mayor:]
what "local authorities"? The one Russia appointed there? What will he say? No surprise information there—in the opinion of all the Putin-patriots, Ukraine is shelling and bombing itself! And did they not do this 20 years ago? No? For some reason, as soon as Russia appeared there, they immediately began to blow up their dams and erase cities from the face of the earth, right? Is Russia trying to sort of stop this? Successfully? But can’t stop Ukraine from bombing itself? Despite all military means? Seriously?
what do they do this for?! Is this exactly according to plan?
The swine’s plan is ingenious. and their own
Yes, according to the plan of their overseas masters
they did it. they blew their own dam. [accidentally admitting it’s Ukraine’s, even thought controlled by Russia and in an annexed area that fake-voted to join Russia]
I won’t be surprised if Ukraine and nuclear power plants are blown up, and then everything is blamed on us; and, of course, the West will agree with them, until we prove 100% the opposite, like a circus with Bucha.
Exactly. they will infect themselves and their land for another hundred years.
well, of course, that’s exactly what they want, right? before all this, they didn’t attack anyone. But then, once this began, they suddenly started bombing and blowing up their own infrastructure. Yeah sure, you naturally know everything, and can personally confirm from visiting the front, how the Ukrainians fired from this and that. Yeah right. Or are you just lying?! Spewing your nonsense into the minds of the unsavvy public?
So the whole point is that they do not plan to live there, and they will poison our future Novorossiysk land, because the Ukrainians consider the inhabitants there to be third-class Russians
Why is Putin doing this? I thought they only hit military targets.
Typical Ukrainian-infantile approach, then blaming their enemy for everything that goes wrong 👎
Apparently, he believes that experiments were carried out at the hydroelectric power station to zombify bio-fish.
Such things are typically useful to the defending side, in order to prevent the enemy from crossing the river. So, which side is now successfully defending against an oncoming offensive?
On August 18, 1941, NKVD officers blew up the Dnieper hydroelectric power station in the Zaporozhye region.
[That was Internal Affairs in USSR, they were extremely harsh, and mostly all Russian. Implying it’s the Russians, not Ukrainians.]
Well, it’s seeming like it’ll be this summer, and maybe even this month, that a powerful bomb will be used. 🔥🔥🔥 But not necessarily on the territory of the former Ukraine.
Yes Yes! One will be used! only immediately hydrogen, by 2 megatons! 💥 🤣
What about in Voronezh?
You can expect anything from those Ukrainians. Now, Kennedy's nephew is openly telling the whole truth about their American masters.
Russians Notice narrative Changes:
from earlier today, “The mayor of Nova Kakhovka, Vladimir Leontiev, denied in an interview with RIA Novosti the information about the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, calling it ‘nonsense’.” I see that story changed!
Poor Soviet dam built in 1956! It was laid down under Stalin. This power can't really build anything, it only knows what to destroy!
And what do you think—why did this hydroelectric power station not fall apart 2 years ago? Or 3 years ago? Or 4 years ago, it just operated there fine, didn't it? But then something happened and now 80 settlements have been flooded for 3 days.
"This is nonsense! Everything is fine, everything is fine everywhere, I just got on the radio. Everything is fine everywhere in the city, everything is quiet and calm," said Vladimir Leontiev (head of Novaya Kakhovka) this morning🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦
"everything goes according to plan"
So it’s probably stupid of me to think that when the hydroelectric power station came under the control of Russia, the security facility was not checked by sappers then. It is probably stupid to think that there is no video surveillance at a sensitive facility, and for some reason, there are no footage of "constant shelling, due to which" this tragedy happened. Hmm..
The meaning of this Ukrainian terrorist attack is not entirely clear. Now, downstream, the islands where the Armed Forces of Ukraine have equipped positions is flooding. Their military try to evacuate by boat, and just become an easy target for Russian artillery.
Russians worry about Ramifications
Radioactive fallout from the largest station in Europe will disperse, including to Russia. Reached Khabarovsk. The ones brutalizing are the demolitionists.
So ... the water shortage in Crimea will continue.
We’re going to have to restore all his later—sacrificing our own standard of living and infrastructure [to subsidize restoration].
Later: Russians don’t believe Ukraine caused this:
This is a secure facility, which means there must be video surveillance footage of "multiple strikes." Right? Or is this how our Lavrov is reliably knows it was caused by Ukraine?
It definitely doesn't look like a rocket or artillery or aircraft strike. There was something else.
liberation in full swing 😏
The decommunization of Ukraine is in full swing.
[reference to structures of communist era being destroyed, apparently a new goal of the SVO]
So strikes or mined? Get your stories straight.
Any explosives engineer understands that such a mass of concrete cannot be collapsed with a rocket or bomb strike, doing such is only pounding concrete by centimeters, so it would take a lot of missiles and time. However, it’s an entirely different scenario to lay it from the inside, in the right places, and in the right amount—then in an instant, the whole structure will fall apart in seconds, but only if everything is done correctly, and the calculations are performed without a single mistake.
The Ukrainians constantly fired at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, but this time it seems they overdid it. The amount of damage + water pressure did their devastating work. Obviously no one planned this, but the level of the military "genius" of the Armed Forces of Ukraine became clearly visible 😠 Zelensky is holding a meeting on this issue today. They will decide how to deal with a tragedy that they themselves have arranged.
So you admit that this is not beneficial for Ukraine, but beneficial for Russia, and the argument why Ukraine allegedly did this all the same boils down to the fact that they, they say so. [they=Referring to Russian authorities] What a fool. Seriously...
Whoever has a little ingenuity and a map in his hands will realize everything.
And this phrase is about the impossibility of dumping water. There’s been no arrivals there for a long time. But fearing a "counterattack," the dam just suddenly burst...
The degree of degradation, destruction and catastrophe is already limitless. WHAT IS THIS ALL FOR!!???
For denazification and demilitarization! [said seriously]
it’s grandpas [generals] having fun
Why were the turbines and generators blown up? "to make grandfather even happier" says Prigozhin
On August 18, 1941, NKVD officers blew up the Dnieper hydroelectric power station in the Zaporozhye region.
Yes. Then the plants and factories were blown up. And they burned the corn on the stalks, and drove the cattle to the retreat. Everything is logical. And they burned Moscow and handed it over to the French. And the Varyag was flooded. So what?
Then why are you so sure that it's not them this time?
The video shows a concrete explosion from a planted explosive. Someone here is blatantly lying that this is from shelling.

2023.06.08 22:30 Vriyk [TOMT] [GAME] goat simulator type game on youtube
around 2015, i used to watch a youtuber's(i'm assuming he was very popular) series on a goat simulator type game where the premise was to just fuck around as an animal. i'm not sure if it was a goat or not, but it walked on four legs and was kinda shaped like one. i distinctly remember the fact that the main area/spawn was a city closed off by 4 very tall walls, and the outside of the city seemed like a giant empty area with random giant hills (it looked similar to the windows bliss background, but less bright and sunny). scattered around the empty area were random easter eggs, including a beach, blimp you could drive, etc. I also faintly remember the fact that you could die at the beach, likely from a shark or something. there was also another easter egg where if you entered a certain building you would end up in a sewer area with zombies you had to shoot with a random gun on the floor. another thing, which was common in this youtuber's videos, was trying to bounce off every car in a parking out outside of spawn. if you jumped on the roof of the car it would explode and launch you upwards, so he would try to blow up all of the cars in one single go. the spawn was a building where you could change outfits and customize, but i'm not too sure.

2023.06.08 21:57 Fram_Framson Is there a mod which smooths out the abrupt climate shift between northern Riften and southern Eastmarch? Bonus points if it's compatible with Seasons of Skyrim (or is simply a Seasons implementation)
Title. I've always felt that the regional climate changes so abruptly between Kynesgrove and Windhelm that it's actually quite silly, since the hills which sort of divide the areas are too stubby and broken to separate climates the way a mountain range would, nor is Windhelm on much of a plateau.
As a major city, Windhelm also undermines its presentation (MUH IMMERSHUNS) because the game tries to show there several farms in the area, but every time I'm there the farmers are working in a horrific blizzard. Okay, you're using some magic, I get it, but come on. At least Dawnstar doesn't bother with farms and just seems to present itself properly as a pure port town fully dependent on fishing.
Even if you're used to suspending disbelief due to Skyrim's abbreviated geography (hey, it's only about 40 square kms in real terms), this transition is out of whack even with the rest of the game. It's not so much that this is a fantasyland, it's a fantasyland with an area which blatantly breaks even the game's own internal logic.
I feel Windhelm ought to have a climate more like Morthal's, and possibly even have a mountain valley effect down near the Yorgrim river, with the transition to a full winter landscape taking place as the elevation rises just north of Windhelm.
Is there a mod for this? And as I'm hoping to use Seasons of Skyrim in my next playthrough, is there a Seasons terrain preset which fits with this idea or which is compatible with a fix for this?

2023.06.08 21:57 Khenal Dungeon Life 125
Rhonda
The goblin hums to herself as she carefully measures out doses of potions into bottles, Lucas dutifully following after to properly cork them. He likes to put a thin webbing over them as well, enough to ensure the corks stay put, yet not thick enough to interfere when someone actually needs to quickly drink one. This batch is healing potions, but the two will be working on aqua affinity potions next.
She might brew a few of Thedeim’s water breathing potions in the next few days, too. Something about them draws her class to it. She has a hunch Master Staiven is wrong about what they do, but she has no idea what else it could be. The idea of experimenting to find out tempts her to hurry, but she stomps that impulse down. Fast work with potions is sloppy work, and sloppy work with potions is dangerous work. Besides, if she’s been taking stock properly, she’s pretty sure there are a couple of those potions left unsold, yet not on the shelves. Her master might be ahead of her in wanting to experiment. She might get to help design one!
That hope leads to a stronger urge to speed up, and a harder one to ignore, but she manages. She’s been having to learn patience with her studies after Thedeim vassalized Hullbreak. With the dungeon now open to delvers, the demand for water potions has skyrocketed! Once the first wave started bringing back kelps and other ingredients, Master Staiven was more than happy to blow the dust off the old aqua affinity recipe and teach it to her.
It’s easily the most complex potion in her repertoire now. It’s mostly water and life essences, expressed through a transmutation formulation. The gills and fins it gives are weird, but not uncomfortable. She and Master Staiven had tested the first batch out just past the docks to ensure they had it right. While the water is murkier than she would have preferred, there were no other problems. She’s even been toying with the formula to see if she can fix the murkiness issue. She can feel another essence will be needed, but she’s not sure what. Her first instinct was light, but that doesn’t feel quite right.
Maybe she can try to talk with the First Mate? All accounts of the Voice of Hullbreak say she’s intimidating, but reasonable. Old sailors say sharks are supposed to have incredible senses, but whenever she tries to ask one in the shop about it, they start on a wild fish tale and never reach the point before they need to pay and leave.
She’s starting to suspect that’s the point, and that most of the sailors don’t actually know if sharks have good senses. It might be better to get it from the shark’s own mouth. The more she thinks on it, pouring doses into bottles, the more she likes the idea. Another delve would be great!
“Lucas, do I have any spell spore in my personal stocks?” she asks her spider familiar. He was always better at keeping track of hard numbers than she is, and she pouts slightly when he shakes a negative.
“We’ll need to delve Thedeim again, if we’re going to try to delve Hullbreak. Master Staiven would probably let me borrow some, but a proper adventuring alchemist keeps herself and her party stocked with potions from her own gathering. Or pays for the ingredients, like Master Staiven does.”
Lucas chitters approvingly at that, and Rhonda can tell he’s looking forward to some adventuring, too. She’s pretty sure he’s somehow picked up meta affinity. She doesn’t know how else he can use the odd bits and pieces he’s gathered to help her spellcraft. She’s also not certain where he’s gotten them all. She has no idea what creature could have created the small chip of bone that has earth affinity in it. If it was a whole piece, she might be able to puzzle it out, but a small piece could have come from anything!
She finishes pouring the potions and scrubs the cauldron, before heading up to the shop floor to check if her master needs anything. His grumpy look doesn’t look like an act like it usually does.
“Is something wrong?” she asks, concerned, and his look softens slightly before he sighs.
“No aqua affinity potions today. The delvers I sent to gather bubblekelp came back with bubbleweed instead! Sure, I can use it in something else, but not the affinity potion,” he grouses from the stool behind the counter.
His sour mood pauses as he sees the considering look in his apprentice’s eyes. That look means mischief, or some other version of plotting. He’s always equally proud and concerned when his apprentice gets that look.
“What if we get it? Me, Freddie, and Larrez? We’d need to delve Thedeim for some spellspore, but then I can make his version of the water breathing potion, and we can go gather stuff in Hullbreak,” she suggests.
Staiven weighs that plan for a few seconds, looking for holes to poke in it. He has kept her brewing a lot recently. Stretching her legs would be good, especially with winter here. It’s easy to forget Thedeim has plenty of space below ground to delve, not just the house and yard.
He nods. “Gather enough for warming potions, too. The trip to and from Hullbreak will be cold.” With that, he offers her the quest to gather the bubblekelp. “You can prepare with Thedeim today, and get an early start on Hullbreak tomorrow. Go have fun,” he says with a smile and shoos her up the stairs to gather her gear, and waves her farewell as she leaves with all her kit.
Getting Freddie is as easy as going to the church and asking. She finds him in prayer and quietly waits. He cracks open an eye and gives her half a smile before continuing, and soon finishes up. It only takes a few minutes to explain, and only a few minutes more for him and Fiona to prepare.
The hard part comes when both realize they don’t actually know how to get in contact with Larrez. They know he was a caravan guard, so he’s probably guarding something, but they don’t actually know where he works.
Well, besides at the guild. With no other leads, the intrepid youngsters and their spiders head there. Inside, the first floor is more full than usual, the various adventurers taking a bit more time between quests and delves to warm up and unwind. A few groups notice them and nod in greeting, but most are too busy with what they’re doing to even notice.
One major exception is Karn the Slight. The guild leader smiles at the small group and waves them to the bar. “Well! If it isn't two of my newest members! How’re you kids doing?” His eyes shine with mirth as they drift to the spiders. “You two keeping them from getting into too much trouble?”
The spiders chitter in affirmation and the two youths smile at the friendly orc. “We’re doing well,” answers Freddie. “We’re actually looking to do some delving. Old Staiven gave Rhonda a quest to get some bubblekelp from Hullbreak.”
Karn nods at that. “Sounds like a good way to expand your horizons, get a feel for a dungeon besides just Thedeim.”
“Yeah, but we don’t know how to let Larrez know. If we’re a party, we should delve together,” points out Rhonda.
Karn leans back and folds his arms, his gaze drifting over the tavern as he considers the problem. His drifting gaze freezes for a moment, before he nods to himself and leans forward again. “I don’t know his contact info off the top of my head. Let me check his paperwork to see what options we have. I’ll be back in a sec.”
They let him go to his office without any fuss, and take the chance to look around the first floor a bit more as they wait.
Karn
He probably should have expected a wrinkle like this in Rezlar’s plan to keep his identity secret. While he doesn’t doubt the young lord has plenty of people to handle most of the work of being the mayor, it’s not like the kid can just hang out in the guild hall all day. He was trying to think of some way to deflect, when he noticed Miller standing outside a window.
Their eyes met and the definitely-just-a-butler pointed upward, then vanished. Karn might not have planned for something like this, but it’s looking like Miller had. The orc suppresses a sigh as he heads to his office, and isn’t surprised to see Miller inside, waiting for him.
“So, what’s your solution?” Karn asks as he takes a seat behind his desk.
Miller smiles like he’d prefer to play this out a bit more, but is decent enough to get to the point. Not everyone enjoys the intricacies of a good cover story. “Young Larrez has secured himself a job as a guard to the Young Master’s estate. His party should be able to request his company with the gate guards, though he will not always be available.”
Karn mulls that over for a few seconds and nods. “That’ll do it, yeah. I’ll let them know where they can gather up their friend.”
Miller’s professional smile relaxes just a hair at that. Karn is perceptive enough to notice, and smart enough to pretend he doesn’t. There’s not a lot he knows for sure about Miller’s motivations, but one thing has been pretty consistent. It might be yet another cover, a part of the act, but Karn’s gut tells him it’s genuine. The ‘butler’ cares deeply for his charge, and about more than just his safety.
It’s pretty plain Rezlar sees Miller as a father figure, possibly more than his actual father. Seeing that smile makes Karn think Miller sees the young noble as a son, too.

2023.06.08 21:42 Life1717 Looking to Move help me out.
Hi everyone I’m 23 years M old currently working remotely in Wisconsin. I desperately need a change of pace and would like to get out of my bubble for at least a year and if I like it stay.
I like anything outdoors related from biking to hiking skiing fishing and Boating and others, but I also need my shopping and basic amenities. Also some causal bars, breweries and nightlife would be a bonus. My budget for housing is probably around 1500 a month, but could be as high as 2000 if my partner comes with me after a year.
I am very much a live and let live type of person. I want somewhere where people will mind their own business and not every conversation with my neighbors will be political. I don’t care if you’re republican or democrat because I don’t base my friendships off of that crap. I just want to live my life in peace. Anyway here is a list of places I’m thinking. Totally open to other suggestions as well.
-Las Vegas
-Albuquerque or Las Cruces
-Fort Myers
-El Paso
-Brownsville TX
-Oklahoma City
