I was looking at some AK-103 Furniture Ready Kits on PSA and added them to my cart to see the shipping and tax, but the site wouldn't accept my LGS zip code. I then looked at their California Compliant 103 and noticed the muzzle brake was replaced with a standard thread protector. Same device the KALI-103 has.
I thought the AK74-style muzzle device was a brake? What gives?

Hi, as per title my PC crashes during sleep (mem deep). I am using the latest kernel (6.3.6-arch1-1) with Gnome on Wayland. Hi all. I'm not a driver or customer but have been in this sub. It seems the DD design itself is flawed qif I am correctly assessing what I have gleaned from reading here. Out of pure curiosity and maybe some fantasy there's hope for the industry I would appreciate if the drivers could answer some questions. Please note I'm Canadian. So have a sense of humour and be kind (no mj emoji meh).
When you get hired by DD, is it for a specific city/zip code or can you do DD when you visit your crazy uncle living in Yosemite?
"Shift scheduling": please correct my understanding of this if I'm wrong The app divides your area into "districts" and in 2hr(?) time slots.
How much in advance can you pick your district/slot? Is it worth it? Can you switch or drop shift? Are you responsible for finding someone to cover your shift if sick? Are the shifts offered to each driver based on the driver rating? What happens if you're a "no show, no call"? Can your significant other do you shift instead? Can you and your partner share a DD driver account?
The down side of booking a shift in advance obviously is it won't be busy but in most cities you kind of know where the action will be. Can anyone speak to this - DM me if you don't want to post long stories.
Can you have a regular schedule longer term like weekly because of family obligations?
You can't leave a shift early even if dead. You know how many other drivers are working your area.
Do you know how many drivers in each district during your shift? If your district is dead can you help in another district close to yours?
You cannot do catering or pizza deliveries unless you have some magic DD bag that you have to PAY for? Does your driver rating affect your chances of doing catering or pizza? Do you pay for "uniforms", signage, using their bank app or anything I'm missing?
This really pissed me off yesterday - I saw a drivers account was deactivated for what it seemed was no reason. Regardless because I think it's a croc of sh!t DD keeps whatever money was in your account, money you obviously earned. I'd love to see their terms and conditions I've heard of anything like that. Has this been discussed among drivers. It seems from where I'm sitting they could de-activate anyone as long as they find a reason. I assume DD knows what's in your bank? Do most move money earned right away? Or does the DD bank offer special saving rates or awards? Do you have to use DD bank or can you opt for email or direct deposit to your account?
This is from a large city in Canada so what my DD order screen shows may be different. I attached ss of what my order screen looks like. If you're calculating tip on order before DD suggested 30%, after it's 20% not too shabby from a serving point of you. As a server I usually calculated my tips on after tax total sales.
Where I see tip, you see bid? Or is the total bill the bid? Can you see the tip? Do you know what your final sales total at end of shift? I find it amusing driver base pay $2.50 (it says upto $10 but I haven't heard of any unless those streak challenges which look horrible), but the customer tip is based on effort, fuel cost, mileage, ECT..should add adjust for monthly inflation 😜
Can someone explain how your rating and acceptance rate works to influence the orders that you are offered? Are orders offered to one person at a time? Can DD offer an order while you're doing one already? How can you unassign an order?
From what I gleaned the restaurant/store doesn't start preparing order until it is accepted. Can you unassign yourself after it's already started? If so, how is the client notified? Are there negative consequences for you?
Drivers aren't allowed to check the orders. Why aren't restaurants held accountable and pay the driver (fuel, time, opportunity cost) to return and get the correct ordemissing items? If drivers aren't responsible for order correctness/completeness why is it something you are rated on? Even if not overtly it's not hard to deduce that customer satisfaction is directly influenced by order correctness/completeness and the willingness to fix the problem.
I've never ordered DD so I don't know personally. When rating the driver is there a specific section to review the establishment/restaurant given the driver is unable to verify the order and shouldn't be held responsible within reason (drinks in holders, milkshakes, some food the way it's packaged easier to verify)?
Lastly (yea I know finally eh) have any of you drivers worked for similar companies UberEATS, Instacart, GrubHub, Uber,.. not necessarily food delivery service but the "gig" independent contractor? Are the organizations pretty much the same across the board? Do any do anything better or shady?

Throwaway account in case my old/new bosses are on here. I've worked in IT for over 15 years now. Recently, with COVID lockdowns I have been able to find remote work and try my hand at being a contractor. The past year has been easy cruising, but have had a recent shake-up recently. I am hoping for advice!
I need help on potentially becoming "overemployed". Here's the situation:
Company A:
$170k/year pretax. No benefits, no KiwiSaver, and I do my own taxes. I still get paid sickies and paid-time-off and I get to deduct expenses though, which are nice.
The type of work I do here can realistically be done in 4-5hours/day. They trust me there and I am well-respected.
Company B:
$140k/year pretax. Kiwisaver match and I am a full-time employee. Based off the interviews, they're a fast moving company with lots of work and not too many people to do it. I might need to work a full 8 hours in this company. It is well structured and established. They work different projects in a wide scope. Getting a 'toxic work culture' vibe from the interviews.
Company C:
$130k/year pretax. Same as Company B - I will be a permanent employee with usual perks. Based off interviews, they are a very small team wanting to scale. Not too much structure, trying to figure things out, but need all the help they can get from experienced people like me. They have a narrow scope of work. Based on the JD, I might be able to complete work in 5-6 hours a day.
Now, I am torn. I would have happily continued coasting through Company A had they not told me I might not get renewed for my new contract. Now that I have options, I am confused.
Considering I can do work for Company A in 4 hours a day, I might be able to pull off signing up for Company C and be overemployed. But what would that mean in taxes? Also, will they find out I am still consulting (considering I will have to give them tax code ST, which is for secondary income?) I could really use the extra income as we've always wanted to buy a home and it's been hard saving considering so many human (I support my family and extended family with health issues; it's complicated but rest assured I am not being taken advantage of) and furbaby mouths to house and feed.
I have never done anything like this before and I feel (kind of) dirty doing it? I'm a real stickler for the rules, but I am out of my element here.
Should I ignore Company B and C, just focus on A and pretend I never got those offers?

2023.06.09 00:29 championchilli Full cache drive, no mover, no docker, system log read error issues, at wits end
I am a total newb, and apols for leaning on the sub for help. Previous posts will attest to this. Previously run Sab + Arr suite in a windows environment and transitioned to Unraid to sue up old hardware. I have clearly setup something wrong here, as my cache drive has totally filled up, and appears to be full of read only files. I cannot run the mover to get them off (nothing happens) and other solutions using Krusader will not work because it has pushed all my dockers to offline, no apps will start or can be installed.
I have also removed the cache disk 1 from the array, cleared it and formatted it, added it back to the array, but it has just gone back to being full again. 118 of 124 gb, 1gb free.
Two of my HDDs are throwing up errors - will that have moved my array to read only mode, and therefore filled my cache?
I have a long list of red read only file issues in my sys log here's as sample, tonnes of read only files on there, I have a full syslog zip, will figure out how to host it and link to it here.

I have also removed the cache disk 1 from the array, cleared it and formatted it, added it back to the array, but it has just gone back to being full again. 118 of 124 gb, 1gb free.
Two of my HDDs are throwing up errors - will that have moved my array to read only mode, and therefore filled my cache?
I have a long list of red read only file issues in my sys log here's as sample, tonnes of read only files on there, I have a full syslog zip, will figure out how to host it and link to it here.

Hello,
I have a condenser (ventless) tumble dryer. Normally, when the drying cycle ends, the door unlocks and my clothes come out dry.
Lately what's been happening is that even after the drying cycle ends, the door remains locked, supposedly as a safety mechanism because the dryer is still very hot inside. After a while, the door unlocks. But by that time, the clothes come out a little damp.
I'm putting the same amount of clothes for the same amount of dry-time.
There's no error code.
I researched this problem and I found the overheating to be caused by lint buildup. My dryer does not have a lint filter, so all the lint builds up inside the condensation tank. I opened the condensation tank and it was choked full of lint. I cleaned it out thoroughly. The fan was also clogged of lint, so I cleaned that out too.
I replaced the thermostats with originals, both the High Limit Thermostat and the Manual Reset Thermostat because I read prolonged lint buildup in the condensation tank, damages the thermostats. I tested the thermistor and it read between 9k - 10k ohms of resistance. The heating element has continuity and it is not touching the case.
But the dryer is still overheating, because of this the door still remains locked, and so the clohtes still come out damp. The heating element is working because during the dry cycle, the door is quite hot, so I know the clothes are drying. It's when the clothes keep sitting locked in the dryer after the cycle ends, that moisture sets back in and dampens the clothes. I don't know what else to clean or what parts to replace.
It's a Haier HLC1700AXW Combo Washer Dryer.
Could it be that the outside of the steel drum also needs cleaning from lint?
Electronically, the last component I can think of replacing is the PCB board probably because the relay is bad. It's $300+.
Any ideas?

From the operative and legal perspective... It depends.
Now, there are additional protections you might put in place, like setting up a legal entity. An LLC is an option, but in the car rental space, having a non-passthrough entity (C-corp) might be a better option, as it reduces the potential claim of comingling and the possibility of your opposing party piercing your corporate veil.
It's best to treat this as a business from day 1 and car 1, so better voice your concerns with an attorney and an accountant before putting your assets and liability on the table.

- Usually, an owner of a vehicle could be responsible for full liability, especially if there was "negligent entrustment" of the vehicle.
- There is federal legislation that protects owners of vehicles when the owner is renting the car in exchange for payment - 49 U.S. Code § 30106 (Known as the Graves Amendment). If there is no negligent entrustment, Graves protects from vicarious liability, so that could save you from being ruled against by a judge, however, Graves has not been fully tested on Turo, since Turo constantly claims it's not a car rental company, but a technology platform, and they don't rent, but share vehicles - still Turo uses Graves as a defense on every claim / suit.
- If Graves survives in court, it does not preempt state law in terms of statutory limits, so the owner would still be liable for these state limits. Still...
- Turo has a liability policy in place which acts as primary, and if you followed TOS and your car is in good shape, no bald tires, no expired registration, you verified your guest's driver's license, etc., you should be covered.
- Turo has provided counsel and paid for it for many hosts that get sued when ToS was followed and everything was done correctly. If you get sued, escalate it to Turo.
- Turo's ToS has mandatory arbitration, so if someone sues you, Turo could compel it back to Arbitration - Fairclaims or I believe AAA.
- Turo's ToS bars users and guests from suing or filing claims against each other, so that should get a case dismissed as well.

Edit: Just to clarify, when I say "low paying jobs" I don't mean to be snobby. I just literally only have relevant experience to get jobs that are slightly above minimum wage.
Okay so I am in a tight financial spot and at this point I need to honestly know if I am wasting my time with the skillset I have when looking for a junior position.
I will link my resume in the comment, but a brief summary of my skills: HTML/CSS/JS, React, Node, Postgres, AWS and Figma. I also have a very active Github, I code nearly everyday and I have some deployed projects. One of which was full stack and deployed with AWS. The current project I am working on is a crypto paper trading website, where users can login and keep track of their investments/market. It's not done but almost finished, I put it on my resume because it's by far the most effort I put into a website.
So in that brief summary those are my highlight skills. Is this enough for the current expectations for a Junior?
I am American but semi recently moved to Brazil. With this skill set is it realistic to expect me to land an in person job soon (month or 2) if I literally apply to every place in the U.S? I don't care if it's a small town dude, I just need fucking work and willing to move anywhere. I need to know if my expectations are realistic or if I should just work on getting a low paying job and not bet on landing a web dev job right now.
