2023.06.08 23:02 catphish_ Having trouble with time formatting and window checking in this Pomodoro Timer
I'm trying to get this Pomodoro timer script working and I'm having 3 main issues:
- I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the time to format properly(25:00 reads as 25:0)
- I'm having an issue with the window detection. As it is written in the main script it seems to be detecting properly, except that always beeps, and then beeps twice if a distraction is open. I only want it to beep once if a distraction is open. However if I try something like this subbing lines 81-88 for:
Loop, % distractions.Length() { distraction := distractions[A_Index] if (IsDistractionActive(distraction)) { distracted := 1 } } if distracted = 1 SoundBeep, 1500, 100 distracted := 0
it just beeps every single time. STEALTH EDIT: I figured out it only does the double beep when Steam is also open, but still trying to figure out how to fix this.
- I'm having trouble figuring out how to make the change mode button work properly if the timer is running already. As it stands nowif I am running the Work timer and then change the mode, it will stop the timer, switch to Rest mode, and then still display 25 minutes. However when I then start the timer it does count down from 7 properly.
Main Script:
#SingleInstance, Force SendMode Input SetWorkingDir, %A_ScriptDir% SetTitleMatchMode, 2 distractions := ["reddit", "twitter", "facebook", "youtube", "twitch", "steam"] workTime := 25 * 60 restTime := 7 * 60 mode := "Work" ; GUI ; ------------------- Gui, Margin, 16, 16 Gui, Color, 1d1f21, 282a2e Gui, +AlwaysOnTop -SysMenu +ToolWindow -caption +Border Gui, Font, s10 cRed, Impact Gui Add, Text, vTime x40 y5 w30 h20, % floor(workTime/60)":"mod(workTime, 60) Gui, Font, s10 cWhite, Impact Gui Add, Text, vMode x5 y5, Work Gui, Font, s7 Impact Gui Add, Button, gButtonExit x85 y2 w11 h11, ❌ Gui Add, Button, gStart x5 y25 w15 h15, ▶ Gui Add, Button, gStop x25 y25 w15 h15, ⏹ Gui, Font, s12 Impact Gui Add, Button, gMode x45 y25 w15 h15, 🔁 Gui Show, w100 h45, 🍅 Pomodoro 🍅 OnMessage(0x0201, "WM_LBUTTONDOWN") Return ; Switch Mode ; ------------------- Mode: stop := 1 if (mode = "Work") { mode := "Rest" Gui, Font, s10 cRed, Impact GuiControl,, Time, % floor(restTime/60)":"mod(restTime, 60) GuiControl,, Mode, % mode } else { mode := "Work" Gui, Font, s10 cRed, Impact GuiControl,, Time, % floor(workTime/60)":"mod(workTime, 60) GuiControl,, Mode, % mode } Return Stop: stop := 1 Return ;Reset ; Start Timer ; ------------------- Start: Gui, Font,, s10 cRed, Impact GuiControl, Font, Text, stop := 0 Loop { if (mode = "Work") { timer := workTime while (timer > 0) { if (stop = 1) { break } sleep 1000 timer-- if (timer < 120) { Gui, Font, cRed s10, Impact GuiControl, Font, Time } Loop, % distractions.Length() { distraction := distractions[A_Index] if (IsDistractionActive(distraction)) { SoundBeep, 1500, 100 } } GuiControl,, Time, % floor(time60)":"mod(timer, 60) GuiControl,, Mode, % mode distracted := 0 } if (stop = 1) { Gui, Font, s10 cRed, Impact GuiControl,, Time, % floor(workTime/60)":"mod(workTime, 60) GuiControl,, Mode, % mode break } else { SoundBeep, 1000, 250 mode := "Rest" } } if (mode = "Rest") { timer := restTime while (timer > 0) { if (stop = 1) { break } sleep 1000 timer-- if (timer < 120) { Gui, Font, cRed s10, Impact GuiControl, Font, timer } GuiControl,, Time, % floor(time60)":"mod(timer, 60) GuiControl,, Mode, % mode } if (stop = 1) { Gui, Font, s10 cRed, Impact GuiControl,, Time, % floor(restTime/60)":"mod(restTime, 60) GuiControl,, Mode, % mode break } else { SoundBeep, 1000, 250 mode := "Work" } } } Return ; GUI Move ; ------------------- WM_LBUTTONDOWN() { PostMessage, 0xA1, 2,,, A } ; Exit ; ------------------- ButtonExit: GuiEscape: GuiClose: ExitApp ; Distraction Checker ; ------------------- IsDistractionActive(distraction) { WinGet, windowList, List Loop, %windowList% { hwnd := windowList%A_Index% WinGetTitle, windowTitle, ahk_id %hwnd% if (InStr(windowTitle, distraction)) return true } return false }
Another strange bug of lesser importance is that if dragged over the Windows Task Bar and I switch to another virtual desktop it disappears. And I can't even find it with Alt-Tab.

2023.06.08 23:02 Cocao_Nibs The Duelist in Purple Armor v2 Remastered, Chapter 2
FirstNext
Well, it only took Canada burning and the East Coast turning into smoky rendition of a Mexico filter for this chapter to finally reach completion. Regularly-scheduled programming should hopefully resume after July 4th. Until then, drink some water, don't do gender reveals in the forest, and hang in there, guys! Pursuant to Imperial Decree 10928, and in recognition of the reservist nature of the unit, the 1st Rocket Artillery Regiment has been found to satisfy the standards outlined in the Decree. However, in light of the significant budget and nonmaterial resource allocations that were required to bring the aforementioned unit up to levels considered satisfactory by existing standards, additional considerations beyond readiness and training levels must be taken into account. Throughout the appeals process, you have repeatedly indicated that you believe rocket artillery to still have a place on the modern battlefield, citing recent reports from the Terran Planetary District command of the Sol System sector, as well as early after-action reports from the Intervention on Raknos, which you claim to support your argument. However, further investigation into this claim by independent analysts on behalf of Armored Warfare Command has found it to hold no merit in light of the recent restructuring outlined in detail in prior communications. Simply put, neither the Empress, nor her advisors, believe that the maintenance and garrisoning of units intended strictly for low-intensity counter-insurgency operations remains doctrinally viable. Additionally, the excessive monetary and nonmonetary resources you requested in preparation for the evaluation, in light of the on-par, verging on substandard performance of the 1st Rocket Artillery Regiment, even accounting for the large number of fresh troops that needed to be drawn down from other posts to fill out its ranks, is highly suggestive on the part of you, the honorable Ashira Rakishal. This discrepancy is of high importance, and you may rest assured that it has already been publicly filed by the time this letter appears in your inbox. Such a discrepancy is indicative of either incompetence or corruption on your part. Commanding officers may face demotion or a possible dishonorable discharge for the former, or, for the latter, a fine totalling no more than one-and-a-half times the estimated sum of the damages assessed, guaranteed dishonorable discharge and a potential prison term of no more than four years. Due to there being no evidence to suggest the latter, the former approach has been suggested by the Armored Warfare Command. Effective fourteen (14) days after this order is signed, your rank will be reduced and you will be relieved of commanding the Regiment. You may be restationed at this time, and your government-issued devices may be deactivated to facilitate this restationing. The 1st Rocket Artillery Division, in accordance with Decree 10928, will be dissolved and its assets relocated to other units wherever possible. Any remaining property will be auctioned under section 12.57.3(g) of the Naval and Marine Surplus Handling Act of 651 at the Val’tira Central Forwarding Depot. Ashira finished reading the letter, but the words meant nothing to her. She hadn't slept in half a week, if not longer, in anticipation of the results from her hearing. In fact, she'd hardly gotten up from her desk; the 1st RAR was on leave until the final verdict would be announced publicly, and it was all she could do but to refresh her inbox every few minutes and watch mindless clips in the background that she hardly heard and never managed to remember a word from.
She tried reading it again, but the letters seemed to float off the screen, each one wrapped in a halo of bluish white screen glow. Nothing made sense.
'We were found to be satisfactory, but then… why does it talk about my rank? Am I getting promoted? There was something about dishonorable discharges, too, so… are some of my girls getting let go? I guess I will have to break the news to them. And it said something about budget overruns… well, mom still owes me from when she forgot to get me anything for my eighteenth last month, so I guess she can pay them back for all the equipment and training I had to authorize…' Her thoughts were already drifting off into a vague haze when her stomach made a low noise, reminding her of the fact that she hadn't eaten in hours, mostly because her supply of food had run dry. Almost in a trance, she rose from her desk and, almost on autopilot, set about getting ready to go out and do some shopping, as she always did. The floor of her living quarters was almost entirely hidden by weeks-old discarded packaging, mountains of dirty clothes, and bottles half-filled with liquid that was either expired juice or urine. Narrow paths snaked through the mess; one to the bathroom, one to her bed, and one more still to the door, which she now slowly shambled towards.
Ashira pulled a pair of battered combat boots over her bare feet - she'd run out of socks that didn't offend her senses some weeks prior - without bothering to lace them, shoved her wallet into the front pocket of the fireproof jumpsuit she wore with absolutely nothing underneath and hadn't changed out of all week, and shoved the door open to head out. Immediately, the smell - or, perhaps, a lack thereof - of the corridor hit her. All the sleeping quarters were locked. It was quiet. Though her boots were heavy, her footsteps barely made a noise as she plodded along the thick, purple and topaz-blue carpet that lined the floor.
The door to the lobby was propped open by a cleaner's cart, and a heavy perfume of chemical detergents wafted through the opening as she approached. In the lobby was a small, older Helkam male, with his long and, in places, graying hair tied back with a beige bandana that matched his civilian contractor's coveralls, just as his green noise-canceling headphones matched the company logo on his uniform. He was dutifully mopping the already nigh-spotless polished stone floor, and there was only a narrow dry strip connecting doorway to doorway.
“‘Scuse me,” she mumbled, tapping him on the shoulder to alert him to her presence. “Coming through.”
He flinched away from her touch, and she flinched away from him, as though his own shock was contagious. “The fuck, you touch me!?” He exclaimed, whipping around to face her, mop at the ready like a Turox-prod. His face burned a pale but furious violet, contorted with fear and a readiness to fight. But, just as suddenly as he’d come to face her, his expression became one of confusion. His mop dipped down, and they stood in silence for a split second that seemed to drag on for entire minutes. Then, he made an odd face, as if of disgust or contempt, and stepped aside, motioning for her to pass by him.
Ashira would have been puzzled by this, if only she were not so frazzled and caught up in her own thoughts. She stepped outside and was immediately hit by a cool breeze; it was night out, and the wind blew in just as it always did. Not that it bothered her much; over the previous months, she had found that it didn’t seem to affect her very much. The only reason she wasn’t feeling the full brunt of the evening gales was that the buildings around the officer’s quarters were mostly two- and three-story affairs, their height and old, weathered stone cladding the last specters of the prominence and prestige the base enjoyed in the long-before times. Before the Unification Wars were but a distant memory. Before the Periphery had become the final, unconquerable frontier. Before the Empress-damned mess that was Raknos. Before Rocket Artillery had become hopelessly obsolete.
The wind blew, relentless and steadfast, as she trudged towards the only place on-base that still had its lights on. The general store. She didn’t know what she wanted to buy there, nor if there would indeed be anything on the shelves that she’d want to buy, but she felt she had to try, anyway. The only rest she could get now was chemically-assisted, either through over-the-counter sleeping pills, or copious volumes of booze, or, when the going got particularly rough, a combination of both. She was vaguely aware of the damage she was probably inflicting upon her organs, but she figured that they were a worthy sacrifice. Still, some days she couldn't fall asleep, even boozed up and medicated as much as she would dare, so she would lie in bed, staring at the ceiling, hoping that the splitting headaches she would get from that chemical cocktail would make her ears ring loud enough to drown out her intrusive thoughts.
The store wasn't particularly warm when she entered, and it reeked of cigarette smoke and mildew as always. The nearest set of shelves to the door were stocked with bags of some sort of imported breaded meat snacks labeled
Pufriyah - Ancestral Recipe, Modern Taste! across the top shelf and cases of Red Grains across the bottom, as if some long-forgotten planner had seen into the future and anticipated Ashira's shopping habits exactly. Without much thought, she pulled a case of the Reds off the bottom shelf, her back, which had been sore for months by then, crying out in pain that just barely cut through her apathy. She threw a few bags of the
Pufriyah snacks on top of it, entirely indifferent to their name, slogan, and brown-furred chibi mascot that spoke to their Rakiri intended consumer base.
'It's all just carbs and protein at the end of the day,' she figured. It wasn't like she could taste much of them anyway, had she really cared to learn their flavor. It was close to a month prior that she'd caught a nasty cold, and her constant sleep deprivation and stress hadn't lent themselves to it clearing itself up on its own. Her senses of taste and smell were unnecessary to her whipping her unit into shape, she'd decided, once she learned that the antivirals she needed to take to make her symptoms clear up would need her to be on bed rest for three straight days. She could always take them later, anyway.
The bottles of Red Grain clanked against each other as Ashira heaved the case onto the checkout counter. The bags on top of it slid off, and she only just caught them in time. The noise awoke the lone cashier, another civilian contractor, from her nap atop her wobbly three-legged stool. She quite inelegantly hopped off of it and came to lean against the counter with one hand, the other lazily waving the scanner of a specialized Data-Slate over the merchandise.
"ID for the Reds," the cashier groggily slurred out, patting down her many pockets in search of a cigarette box. "Standard procedure, nothing personal against you."
Ashira stared at her, dumbfounded, for a few moments too many, before it hit her that she needed to pull up her Marine Profile on her Slate. Mumbling an apology mixed with an excuse, she reached into one of the few - albeit cavernously huge - pockets of her fireproof suit and produced the grimy government-issue device in question. The lock screen was set to her ID, just to make such common interactions go by quicker.
She pushed the Slate across the counter, expecting to get it slid back to her in a few moments, and maybe a manufactured smile and a nod if the cashier noticed the Rakishal House crest in the corner and realized she was of noble blood. But this time, none of that happened. The woman across from her frowned, squinting as she analyzed something about the ID, her face no more than perhaps a few centimeters from it. She looked up at Ashira, then back down at the ID, then back at her, and then all of a sudden her confusion melted into some odd mixture of shock and disgust. She wordlessly pushed the Slate back across the counter, scanned the case of Red Grain, and then motioned to a now very baffled and somewhat offended Ashira that she was free to leave.
In her sleep-deprived state, Ashira had barely the mental capacity to remember where the door was, much less to ponder the deeper meaning behind what had transpired. Vowing to come back the next day, after getting a good night's sleep, and get the insolent cashier fired, she trudged out of the shop, back to the officers' quarters, where the Helkam man was still toiling away in the lobby, now wiping down the Turox-leather seats, and into her own suite.
She brushed the most egregious of the trash from her bed, with the arm that wasn't clutching the spoils of her trek to her chest, and allowed gravity to gracelessly guide her into its soft, fitted-sheet embrace. With a sigh of barely-felt relief, she cracked the cap off her first bottle with her tusks and took a long, well-earned swig.
The next thing she knew, it was morning.
Everything hurt. Ashira's muscles all ached like she'd run every Deathshead Commando bootcamp course, back-to-back, without stopping. Her head felt like a bloated, rotten gourd, ready to burst at the slightest touch. Even though her eyes were closed, what little light made it through them felt as though it was piercing straight through her eyeballs and into her brain. However, through it all, she noted an odd, almost pleasant sensation that she hadn't felt in so long, she'd almost forgotten the word for it.
'Empress all-powerful, this must be the first time in almost a year that I've had a full night's sleep!' Ashira would have kept laying there, exactly where she was. The room was quiet. No one needed her. Her unit was stood down for another few days. She could just stay in bed, in peace, and wait for the pain to subside. But the very second she considered that possibility, her bladder cried in agony, and she simultaneously came to the realizations that she would not be able to hold it in for even a minute longer, and that she was wearing her only set of relatively-clean clothes.
She pushed herself up and onto her feet, and that motion sent showers of sparks cascading through her vision, even as her eyes stayed firmly shut. Her ears rang from the pain as though she'd stuck her head between the prongs of a colossal tuning fork, her limbs felt numb as she stumbled through her room, and the only way she could tell up from down was from the direction gravity kept pulling her every time she lost her balance.
She hit the door frame to the bathroom by chance, only recognizing it as the right one by the light switch her elbow painfully caught. From there, she went entirely by feel. There was the sink, the towel rack, the soap dispenser, the shower door… and finally, having run out of wrong things to blindly grope around for, her hand bumped into the tank of the toilet. Even bending down made her head fill with the pounding beat of her heart, every pulse seeming to try and push her brain out of her skull through her eyes and ears. She nearly blacked out as she sat down.
The next thing Ashira knew, she was doubled over her sink, dry-heaving, her fireproof pants pulled back up around her waist but neither zipped shut nor clipped together at the front. She knew for certain that nothing had come up, because she was newly aware of the desiccated dryness in her mouth and throat, as if all her flesh had been replaced with fine-grit sandpaper. Still lacking the resolve to open her eyes, she blindly clawed at the knobs of the sink until water began to pour, and then began scooping handfuls of it into her mouth.
After a few gulps, she began to feel a bit better. Her mouth, though it still felt dry as ever, was at least now rid of the horrible, sour, metallic taste that she hadn't registered until it was gone, and the unintentional splashing of water onto her face did wonders in helping her start to truly wake up. The very next instant, though, a numbing pain spread across her hands and face, and down her throat. The water was freezing cold.
That didn't deter Ashira, though, and she kept drinking until she knew that she would not be able to swallow a drop more without throwing up. Her hands were numb from the frigid water, as was her face. Icy rivulets streamed down her chin and throat and under her unzipped collar, leaving cool, glistening trails across her breasts and stomach.
Somehow, this numbness that spread across her fingers and cheeks seemed to have carried over to her hangover, as well, though whether it was the rapid cooling, or the much-needed hydration, or both, she neither knew nor cared. Her head now hurt with the intensity of just any old headache, her skin did not feel two sizes too small for her organs, and her muscles and joints barely ached with any more intensity than they usually did.
She opened her eyes for the first time since she'd gotten out of bed, ready and eager to take full advantage of her hangover cure while its effects still lasted, and almost fell over as she stumbled away from the mirror in shock. The reflection in the mirror was decidedly
not her.
Bloodshot eyes stared out at her from dark, sunken orbits; two craters on a puffy face rendered a waxy, pale bluish lilac by months of near-total involuntary isolation from the daylight. Raven hair framed that lifeless visage, once kept neat and short, now a wild, greasy, and, above all, long Seetcha's nest. It had once had lively sun-bleached streaks where her beret and headset did not fully cover it, from when she would ride head-out in her trusty command Ishtarti-603, but they were now mere faded tips spread unevenly through the carbon-black tangle.
The rest of her was not in much better shape. Her bust, though always on the fuller size, was nonetheless noticeably larger than it had been the last time Ashira had inspected her reflection, and doubtless was the cause of her incessant back pain. In the same moment, she became aware that her breasts rested not against the top of her six-pack - which, while rarely worked out and never particularly defined, had, in its mere presence, still been a point of quiet pride for her - but at the upper limits of a beer gut, whose faint outline was visible even under the baggy suit she was wearing for the umpteenth day in a row, and which stood as a testament to the inertia she had descended into while trying to force the RAR into motion.
'Fuck, there's the evidence of my battle. Mom was right, I do eat like a Turox before the slaughter. I have no self-control. Why do I even bother with this restructuring business if I can't even keep to my own damn fitness goals?' Her gloom, though deep and all-consuming while it weighed upon her soul, dissipated just as quickly as it set in.
'But I knew it would happen, so why does it surprise me? I knew going in that I was burning myself up in the present to keep future me warm. It's just a few kilos. A dozen at most. No big deal. Just need a bit more exercise for a month or two and I'll be right back in parade shape!' It did, however, make her think to place an order with the on-base supply depot for some new clothes. With the Unification Day festivities looming, it would simply not do for this quite temporary distortion of her Noble figure to be so brazen, she firmly decided.
The order would have to wait, however. When Ashira brought out her government-issued Data-Slate from her front pocket in a familiar motion, already compiling a list of all the workout gear, field uniforms, and parade garb she would need in a size up, the device, in an apparent bout of unruliness, first resisted her efforts to turn it on, and when it was finally made to do so, simply boot-looped endlessly on the startup screen. For all intents and purposes, it was a Slate-shaped paperweight, and Ashira didn’t even have enough physical documents in her possession to make use of this one purpose it had left.
‘First my clothes, now the one Slate mom can’t track me on. What’s next, is my ID going to expire all of a sudden? Will my physical Chit card have a bad contact?’ There was only so much she could take at one time, so she decided to do the sensible thing and get something to eat before returning to dealing with her problems. She pulled out her Slate. It was almost noon.
'No one needs to see me like this. How can I command the regiment if they see me in such a state? I'll order breakfast - well, lunch now, but who's really counting? - and I can join everyone for dinner, once I get a chance to order in some new clothes, and shower, and maybe do something with my hair.' With a practiced motion, so automatic it was almost a reflex, she swiped through the interface until she found what she was looking for. There, between
Combatters forum sites, was a saved page for the
Hungry Gal's order menu. Her chit was already saved in the system. All she needed was to tap on "Large Hot Meal #5 - Drink Combo" and…
CHIT DECLINED - PAYMENT BLOCKED "That can't be right," Ashira muttered aloud as she tapped the button again, over and over, to the same effect. "It's a government card. Unless- ah, right, it must be the new policy they were talking about! Can't believe they made food expenses count as personal expenditure only, the nerve of these credit-pinching…"
She went into the payment details section of the page, switched the number to her personal one, and selected "Large Hot Meal #5 - Drink Combo" again. This time, a new message appeared.
INVALID ACCOUNT - DEACTIVATED The gnawing hunger in her stomach disappeared in an instant, replaced by a solid iron bar of dread. Why was her account deactivated? Who could have done it? The only other person with access privileges was her own mother, and why would she…?
Ashira knew the answer. She didn't want to know it, to acknowledge that she knew it for fear of what it meant, but she did. With shaking hands, she opened the notification screen of her Slate, and saw she had unread messages from her family group chat. She tapped that notification, expecting a deluge of fury about her weight, her spending habits, her slovenly appearance in public, or any manner of other things, but there was but one message, sent earlier that morning. It was from her mother, indeed, but it was just four words long.
I got the letter. She wanted to protest, to scream, "What letter could you possibly mean?," but she couldn't. A memory, hazy from the fog of insomnia that had dulled her thoughts at the time, played against her volition in her mind. The words hadn't made sense to her then, but they did now. Robotically, she closed the message from her mother and searched through her inbox for one marked with a government seal. She opened it, and read it in silence. The last few lines were the hardest to read, because by then the tears had begun to well up in her eyes.
It was over. Her career, her noble status, her finances, her life as she knew it… they were all gone, and it had taken just one letter to send it all crashing down.

2023.06.08 22:57 Keta47 macOS impressions after 2 months
Hi everyone !
I was just jotting down some thoughts for myself after getting a macbook, and using it for about two months. Since I already have written it, I thought that other people might also find it useful. They are my personal observations, and some of them might not apply to you (like the availability programming software, or something else), or they might have a different importance for you.
For reference, I'm using a M1 Macbook Pro 16" with 1TB of ram and macOS Ventura 13.4.
Trying to exclude the hardware differences and things common to both laptops with Windows and macOS (such as portability of a laptop, common software, etc) - focusing on just the operating systems.
macOS advantages - Calendar, Notes sync (similar can be achieved with Google Calendar, but less privacy as iCloud data is E2EE)
- Very useful screenshot / recording tool (incl. light edits) - CleanShot X
- Safari has built in password manager and light arblocker - Wipr - even lighter than uBlock origin).
- Safari has amazingly low energy consumption and is still the fastest on artificial tests (speedometer, etc)
- Spotlight calculations, currency conversion, file search, natural language search - conversions can be done in any browser, but the windows search is inferior
- iStat Menus give detailed information about wifi, resources, cpu, temperatures and sensors and power usage at a glance
- Less space wasted because all applications share a common menu bar (instead of a bar for each app)
- No need to buy operating system or office tools - pages and keynote are just as good (excel is still miles ahead)
- Default apps are better - Finder / Mail / Sketches
- No need for antivirus or maintenance tools
- Very nice UI and very consistent, love it
- Easier to connect to my Airpods Pro and bluetooth connection is a bit more stable in general
- UNIX commands and brew - many of them available with WSL2 / chocolatey, but some stuff like networking is not working in WSL - and since we are onto programming, subpar Docker experience compared to Windows (and both inferior compared to Linux)
- Easier to install and uninstall apps (thank you AppCleaner)
- Very good ambiance light adjustments, rarely manually modified the screen brightness, and the keyboard brightness literally never
- I’m very amazed by how well it manages resources of background processes. I tried to open most of my apps at the same time: Messages, Safari with 12 tabs (of which some were quite heavy like youtube, reddit, facebook), Chrome with 4k video playing, whatsapp, spotify, discord, IntelliJ with JavaFX project running, vs code, Photoshop, and Zoom (also started a conference), RDP connection through SSH. Results: memory pressure stays around 50%, about 20% total CPU usage, and 15-25W power draw. Each app remains buttery smooth, probably because the ram moves from Wired to Compressed as soon as I leave apps. Funny enough, my windows desktop PC with 16GB ram (DDR4 @ 3200Mhz, CL16) and Intel i5-12600k was taking a bit more resources, with 14/16 GB ram used and 30-40% cpu usage.
-
Windows advantages - Better compatibility with engineering software
- Operating system doesn’t become unsupported for the hardware after 5-6 years
- Better compatibility with peripheral devices - especially mice - needed three external apps (razer macOS, linear mouse, mOS to make my mouse usable)
- Gaming
- Better snapping and dual monitor - there is rectangle (pro) which evens out the field, but there are some moments where it’s still inferior
- Although there are less shortcuts and are a lot more variant, they are often times shorter (HOME vs ALT - left arrow, CTRL+Shift+V vs ALT + Option + Shift + V
- More crackable software (yes yes, don’t bash me)
- Ability to dual boot or install anything you want on bare metal - not possible (yet) on the M* chips - but I’ve used Parallels and it gets the job done rather well (although it’s still a VM and it doesn’t have access to full resources).
My personal opinion is that macOS gets many little things right and provides a more quality of life features for general use. The software is a lot more polished, with less crashes, and the whole operating system is better automatically managed.
However, although the advantages are greater in numbers, I feel like the advantages from Windows have bigger weight IF THEY APPLY TO YOU (how useful is 1 second saved from doing task X faster when the software required for work doesn’t work, or when Apple drops support for your laptop after 6-7 years no matter how many money you spent to “future proof” it?). If neither of these two are problems for you, then you only remain with advantages !
In any case, if I got anything wrong please let me know, I'm curious to learn. Or, if you have some thoughts of your own, please share!

2023.06.08 22:46 Intelligent-Cover818 Club Level - Prince Waikiki vs Alohilani - 1st timers
Hi there - I know everyone is probably sick of resort posts lol But, I'd love some feedback on this, as the pricing is near equal for both of these, and I've never been and don't have context.
We are currently booked for two partial oceanfront rooms LongBoard Club at Alohilani. I understand it was an older building that was redone, and based on what I've read: -people seem to either love it, or think it was not up to standard. -it's hip, great rooftop poolbar, rooms and elevators leave a lot to be desired -great mostly central waikiki location -service is hit or miss - definitely not super amazing from what I've gathered -club level is pretty good with a breakfast, dinner pasta bar, and a lot of wine/craft beer.
https://www.alohilaniresort.com/hotel/longboard-club/longboard-club-menu/ https://www.alohilaniresort.com/hotel/longboard-club/ We are only here two nights, and have some tours so I'm not too crazy concerned but I'd love some feedback because Prince Waikiki also has Club Level rooms and with a summer promo, it's coming out to about the same price. I know there are a LOT of diehard Prince fans and I can tell from reviews it is very well loved, the staff is beyond amazing and it's a lovely place to stay. I guess what I am asking for is if anyone has experience with their Club Level specifically, and what they thought? Is the location being so far down by the marina burdensome if you're trying to be closer to stuff in Waikiki (shops, food, etc). Has anyone done Alohilani and Prince and can offer some idea of the differentials firsthand?
Because this resort choice kicks off our vacation, to some extent that service element matters. My family has never been to Hawaii and it sounds like the Prince is really amazing to arrive to and stay at! For reference, we are a family of six - 2 adults with three adult children and one 13 year old.
Thank you!

2023.06.08 20:33 jungfan123 For people new to Sheffield and in town for the gigs - I’m a Hillsborough local, here’s some answers to frequently asked questions! AMA in the comments!
Hope you all enjoy visiting our city!!
”How shall I get around?” You can get taxis on Uber or City Taxis (our local firm, they have their own Uber style app), or download the app Moovit for live public transport info. As another commenter mentioned - you’ll have a very hard time getting taxis back from the gig. Trams are generally more reliable than buses. Sheffield’s very walkable though, you probably will only need transport to get to the gig itself.
”Where shall I go for a drink tonight?” If you’re staying in the city centre, get yourself down to the Frog and Parrot (‘The Parrot’s Beak’ from Cornerstone) - they’ve got a nice outside seating area and have done the place up Arctic Monkeys themed for the gigs! The Forum is nice too, big outdoor area overlooking Devonshire Green (a park in town).
Kelham Island (on the way out to Hillsborough from the city centre) also has some great bars and pubs. The Gardener’s Rest is a classic pub with riverside seating, and Riverside Kelham is great too, as is Alder. Heist has a top selection of beers.
Hillsborough also has some brilliant pubs and micropubs. The Northern Monkey is my favourite, good prices and it’s got a great back room with a speaker you can connect to and plenty of games (also look out for the Alex Turner monkey mural!). There’s also a massive Wetherspoons right next to the tram stop with a huge garden, but please try to support our local businesses while you’re here!
If you’re looking to go ‘out out’, I insist you go to West Street Live. No pussying out. It’s vile, cheap, and a true Sheffield institution. West Street is the main ‘strip’ for bars and clubs in the city centre.
”How shall I get to and from the gig tomorrow/Saturday?” I’d advise getting the tram into Hillsborough (yellow route towards Middlewood or blue route towards Malin Bridge) early afternoon to hopefully avoid the inevitable huge crowds. You can download the app Moovit to get public transport info.
You pay on the tram, the conductor will come round. It’s £2 for a single or £3.70 for a return, or you can get a day rider for unlimited trips (I think it’s £5). You can pay contactless, card or cash (cash preferred). The tram company’s advised that if you want to get the tram back at the end of the night, you should get a return now to avoid holding things up.
They’ve said it could take up to two hours to get the tram back into the city centre after, so another option is to walk back into town. It’s about an hour but there’ll be a whole load of people doing it and it should be a laugh! Alternatively, go and have a drink in Hillsborough before making your way back into town.
Important: trams are running only from Leppings Lane, not Middlewood, Hillsborough Park or Hillsborough stops after the gig! ”Where shall I go after the gig?” Into town (the city centre). Maida Vale plays music Monkeys fans would probably like, but everyone I know is going to the Leadmill afterparty. The Leadmill is an iconic venue in Sheff, the Monkeys played there a lot when they were getting started. They’re shutting down the whole road and having a massive Monkeys themed street party on both Friday and Saturday night! You can get tickets here:
https://leadmill.co.uk/event/arctic-monkeys-after-party-friday/ Looks like this has now sold out for Friday! There might be tickets available on the door too, Leadmill promoters are pretty unscrupulous. If it were me I’d still go into the city centre after anyway and give it a go, and just go to West Street Live, Corporation or Maida Vale if you can’t get in. ”Where shall I eat?” Cutlery Works is a great food hall in Kelham Island, there’ll be something for everyone there. There’s honestly so much great food in Sheffield it’s hard to choose what to recommend though! We have loads of authentic Asian food here because of the massive student population, so it’s worth having a try of some of that! Henderson’s Relish is our local delicacy, but you’ll want that on a pie not on it’s own 😂 If you comment with a particular cuisine you fancy and your rough location, I’ll come up with a recommendation!
In Hillsborough, the Orange Bird (South African barbecue) is open from 12-3 on Saturday. Envers Grill (incredible Turkish food, I believe it won best takeaway in the UK recently) is amazing too, or you can grab a proper pork sarnie (another Sheffield special) from Beres or a couple of the butchers on Hillsborough high street - they’ll have signs outside, and also do lovely sausage rolls etc.
”What shall we do in the morning before the gig?” You could have a mooch around the Millennium Gallery, the Winter Gardens (look out for the AM elephant!) or go have a look round the lovely independent shops on Division Street!
Don’t miss the lovely shop Annie Jude’s on Hillsborough high street for Sheffield souvenirs - it’s right near the park and there’s soooo much Monkeys themed merch that’s honestly much better designed than the official stuff! Just let me know if you have any other questions!

| https://preview.redd.it/jps573afqc3b1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=f305e7736e036acda22864f4e62e1fa7e6e44135 The locally remanufactured Ford F-150 is priced from $106,950 before on-road costs. It'll arrive in the third quarter of 2023 Orders for the Ram 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado-rivalling Ford F-150 pickup have now opened ahead of first arrivals in the third quarter of this year. The F-150 range starts at $106,950 before on-road costs for the XLT SWB in Australia, and extends to $140,945 before on-roads for the Lariat LWB. The first batch of vehicles set to be remanufactured from left- to right-hand drive is now on a boat to Australia from Dearborn, Michigan. The F-150 will be remanufactured to right-hand drive by RMA Automotive at a facility in Mickleham, Victoria – unlike the Ram 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado, which are imported (by Ateco and GMSV, respectively) and remanufactured in right-hand drive by Walkinshaw in Clayton, Victoria. Two trim levels will be offered in the F-150 locally, both of which can be had in either short- (3683mm) or long-wheelbase (3987mm) guise. Regardless of which length you opt for, the F-150 will feature a two-row crew cab in Australia. Unlike its American pickup rivals with their V8 engines, the F-150 will be powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine. The EcoBoost engine makes 298kW of power and 678Nm of torque, sent to all four wheels through a four-wheel drive system With a braked towing capacity of 4500kg, the F-150 matches the Chevrolet Silverado and Ram 1500 when it comes to claimed heavy hauling ability. The car will be backed by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, and will be sold and serviced through the Ford Australia dealer network. Ford Australia is aware of the F-150 Hybrid, Raptor, V8, and electric Lightning options. It hasn’t ruled out bringing them Down Under, but only once the remanufacturing process is established and demand for the EcoBoost has been proven. Pricing 2023 Ford F-150 XLT SWB: $106,950 2023 Ford F-150 XLT LWB: $107,945 2023 Ford F-150 Lariat SWB: $139,950 2023 Ford F-150 Lariat LWB: $140,945 Powertrain The entire 2023 Ford F-150 range is powered by a 3.5-litre ‘EcoBoost’ twin-turbo V6 petrol engine producing 298kW of power and 678Nm of torque. This is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission with drive sent through a four-wheel drive system. The XLT variants have a part-time four-wheel drive system with 2H, 4H, and 4L modes, whereas the Lariat variants have a full-time four-wheel drive system with a 4A mode. This V6 EcoBoost petrol engine uses a pair of injectors per cylinder along with twin-intercooled turbochargers that’s claimed to minimise lag. Efficiency Ford Australia hasn’t detailed fuel economy figures for the local F-150 range. In the US the F-150 variants with the 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 and engine idle stop-start are claimed to consume 20 miles per gallon (mpg) according to EPA combined cycle testing. This equates to 11.8L/100km. It’s unclear at this stage if the remanufactured, right-hand drive F-150s sold locally will have engine idle stop-start, nor what the fuel tank size will be. In the US it’s available with either a 98L tank as standard and a 136L long-range tank as an option. Dimensions The 2023 Ford F-150 range is available exclusive in four-door Crew Cab guise with either a short-wheelbase (SWB) or long-wheelbase (LWB) body styles. The F-150 SWB has a wheelbase of 3683mm with a 1676mm styleside tub, whereas the F-150 LWB has a 304mm longer wheelbase at 3987mm long with a 1981mm styleside tub. All F-150 models have a braked towing capacity of 4500kg. Payload capacities remain unclear at this point. Servicing and Warranty The Ford F-150 is backed by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty like the rest of the Australian lineup. Ford Australia hasn’t detailed service intervals or pricing as of yet. Safety The Ford F-150 hasn’t been tested by Australian crash testing authority ANCAP yet, so for now it remains unrated. In the US the F-150 was awarded a five-star safety rating according to testing conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The 2023 Ford F-150 comes standard with the following safety features: Six airbags Autonomous emergency braking (AEB) Blind-spot monitoring with trailer tow coverage Rear cross-traffic alert Lane-keep assist Driver alert system Cruise control Rear-view camera Reversing sensors Ford Pro Trailer Back-Up Assist The Lariat adds: Intersection assist Lane centring Evasive steering assist Adaptive cruise control with stop/go Speed sign recognition Surround-view camera Front parking sensors Standard Equipment The 2023 Ford F-150 XLT comes standard with the following features: 20-inch machined faced alloy wheels Two-bar style grille with chrome surround and black accents Chrome front and rear bumpers Black platform side steps Tailgate with flexible step and work surface Spray-in bedliner Boxlink cargo management locking cleats Underbody skidplates 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster 8.0-inch SYNC4 touchscreen infotainment system Satellite navigation Seven-speaker sound system FordPass connect Dual-zone climate control Foldout office workspace Column-mounted gear selector Cloth upholstery 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat 10-way power-adjustable front passenger’s seat Power-adjustable foot pedals Lariat The Lariat adds: Premium mesh insert grille with chrome surround Chrome mirror scalps, door handles, belt mouldings, tow hooks, and side steps LED headlights LED front fog lights LED tail lights Powered twin-panel moonroof Power release and close tailgate Power sliding rear window 12.0-inch digital instrument cluster 12.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system Wireless phone charger Console-mounted gear shifter Leather-accented upholstery Heated and cooled front seats Heated rear outboard rear seats Driver seat memory 12-way power-adjustable front seats Power-adjustable foot pedals with memory Adaptive cruise control with stop/go Lane centring Evasive steering assist Speed sign recognition Surround-view camera Front parking sensors Colours The 2023 Ford F-150 range is available with the following exterior paint colours: Oxford White Agate Black Iconic Silver Antimatter Blue Carbonised Grey Rapid Red All paint colours besides Oxford White is considered prestige paint which costs extra. 2023.06.08 20:12 DarthCroissant (Indiana Jones) What if the Indiana Jones films take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
In the 4 Indiana Jones films, we see that the main artifact Indy is searching for in each movie has some sort of supernatural significance.
The Ark of the Covenant in Raiders of the Lost Ark was a sacred chest containing the presence of God and his angels. Whoever dared look into it would be struck down by the wrath of God.The Sankara Stones in Temple of Doom were sacred stones given to Sankara by the Hindu god Shiva. They brought fertility to the land, but unleashed fiery destruction on those who betrayed Shiva. The Holy Grail in Last Crusade was the cup that caught the blood of Jesus Christ at the crucifixion. Whoever drank from the false Grail would die, while the one true Grail would bring life. While I hate to reference this movie, the crystal skull in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was an artifact with supernatural properties connected to an ancient extraterrestrial civilization.
After watching Thor: Love and Thunder, I realized that the existence of Omnipotence City explains how multiple religions manage to exist in the Indiana Jones universe. The existence of alien life is also clear in the MCU, so I wouldn't be surprised if the aliens from Crystal Skull are just one of the alien species in this Indy/Marvel universe.
Also, after further research, I found a lot more evidence to support this at Jock Lindsay's Hangar Bar, a restaurant at the Disney Springs shopping district at Walt Disney World. Jock Lindsay was the pilot from the opening scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark who helps Indiana Jones escape the Hovitos. The restaurant's backstory (which has never been said to be canon or not canon to the Indiana Jones saga's story) goes as such, according to
disney.fandom.com: While helping Indiana Jones on his search for the Fountain of Youth, the two traveled through Florida on their quest, including a stop at Saint Augustine's Fountain of Youth roadside attraction, which Doctor Jones was not too pleased by. During one of these flights, the two flew over the clear waters of Disney Springs, which Jock found so beautiful that he decided to eventually build a home there, later opening his Hangar Bar there in 1955.
The Hangar Bar is important to this overall theory because it contains a couple hard-to-find references to the MCU. In the Lost & Found, you can find a key labeled "Howard S.". Howard Stark would have been alive at this time, and this proves that he actually may have been acquainted to Jock Lindsay and possibly even Dr. Jones. There is also a sign in the bar containing the words "The Iron Fireman", with the word "fire" blotted out. In 2018, to celebrate the debut of
Ant Man and The Wasp, the bar began to serve both giant and tiny portions of menu items, supposedly made with Hank Pym's technology that would have existed around the 1960s, about 5 years after the opening of the bar.
I also remember someone else on this subreddit saying that in
Captain America: The First Avenger, that Red Skull believed that his harnessing of the tesseract is the key to true power while the Führer digs for trinkets in the desert. This could possibly be alluding to the Nazi operations in the Indiana Jones films to uncover the Ark or the Grail which were shown to be sources of unspeakable power.

2023.06.08 19:55 Ornery_Ads What am I doing wrong?
This is the first time I've ever tried to make a website, my domain is registered with Google Domains, and I'm trying to use WordPress on Hostinger.
I can get a basic website live without issue, but trying to do anything more professional looking just leaves me stumped. A couple examples of what I'm having trouble with are a lot of the themes have generic photos in the navigation bar across the top of the page. I can not find a way to either remove the photo entirely, or replace it with my own.
I can't find any way to have the background be a static image with the text scrolling up/down on top of the static image.
I can't find a way to have text on top of an image and continue down off the image (image having a block of text and then putting an image smaller than the block of text as the background for some of the text).
I can't find a way to have the background even be consistent. I can set a background color, or image, but then every text block is white with black text on it rather than continuing with the background color.
I can't find a way to have a block of text that "wraps around" an image. What I mean by this is having the text the full width of the screen until it gets to the top of the image, then it just uses however much width of the screen is left until it gets to the bottom of the image, then goes back to full width.
Am I just missing the menu options to do these, do I have to pay for some extra service, or am I just completely missing everything and I need to just go find a developer to do this all for me?

2023.06.08 19:41 talkorpi Any reviews or photos of the new dining venues on Enchanted?
So I know that Enchanted came out of a drydock a few months ago and had some significant changes, including rearranging the Piazza and adding three new restaurants. I am trying to find reviews, photos, and information about them, but I cannot find any accounts ANYWHERE online.
Has anyone recently been on Enchanted that can share any experiences with the following new venues?
- O'Malley's Irish Pub (New to Princess)
- The Catch (New to Princess seafood restaurant)
- Salty Dog Cafe (New Pool Grill with new menu)
- New Sabatinis (it apparently has a new location and bar)

2023.06.08 19:19 Poro_sama swipe between full screen applications
Hi all,
So my problem is basically that I have that setting enabled and yet I am unable to use it. I am new to mac but i have an iPad with keyboard and there these gestures work perfectly so I thought in the beginning that: 'oh i may need to change some settings and it is not the default', but it was already set so yeah i don't know.
3 fingers swiping up and down are working for mission control an app exposé.
On the net I found things that said I should switch hiding menu-badock automatically on and off, but neither of those helped.
I believe I have my settings right and I accept any help or good advice.

2023.06.08 19:04 tigerzxzz Help Needed: Missing Control Center and Clock on M1 iMac after Clean Install
Hey fellow Redditors,
TL;DR: Upgraded M1 iMac to macOS Ventura, did a clean install, and restored backup using Time Machine. Control Center and clock are nowhere to be found. Seeking help from the Reddit community to get them back.
Full story:
I'm facing a puzzling issue with my M1 iMac after performing a clean installation of macOS Ventura. I followed Apple's instructions, created a bootable USB, and went through the usual process of erasing my Mac to start fresh. However, things took an unexpected turn.
Here's a breakdown of what happened:
- Downloaded macOS Ventura from the AppStore and created a bootable USB.
- Erased my Mac completely & performed a clean install.
- Restored my backup from Time Machine during the installation.
The installation and restore seemed to go well, but there's one glaring problem—I can't find the Control Center or the Clock & Date in the top menu bar.
In an attempt to troubleshoot, I went to System Settings and accessed the Control Center settings. Next to Clock, I clicked on "Clock Options..." and to my dismay, an error popped up with the message:
"Settings Error: The operation couldn't be completed. (com.apple.extensionKit.errorDomain error 15.)" I even went the extra mile and booted my iMac in safe mode, hoping it would magically fix the issue. Unfortunately, that didn't work either.
So, here I am, reaching out to you guys, has anyone else faced a similar predicament after performing a clean install of macOS Ventura on their M1 iMac? If so, I would be eternally grateful if you could share any insights, tips, or workarounds to bring back the Control Center and the clock functionality. It's frustrating not having quick access to these features, especially after going through the trouble of a clean install.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for your potential assistance. Your expertise and support mean the world to me!

2023.06.08 19:01 AstonM77 Canvas - When you first paste a website what is the best way to select it to move it?
I know this is a trivial question, but it has become enough of an annoyance I finally needed to ask.
When I paste a website into a canvas I can resize it, add arrows, and any of the three options in the menu bar at the top of it.
The one thing I can't seem to figure out is how to grab it and move it without clicking off of it and reselecting it, outside of that the iFrame defaults to content interaction.
Is there a key I can hold down or some other method to override this behavior?

2023.06.08 18:56 Turkinator0917 Keeping Pork Butt hot for Community Event
Hi everyone! I was tasked with cooking for an upcoming community event that will take place at a local park. I was asked to provide lunch and dinner and they will cover all the costs. My idea was to cook hamburgers and hotdogs for lunch, simple and easy to carry, and have a large taco bar for dinner, thinking street tacos. I want to use pork butt because it tastes good and is relatively easy to smoke/cook ahead of time. I know if it would be feasible to reheat the precooked meat at the park using the charcoal grills provided at the pavilion. (If it helps, this will be used to feed about 30 people)
