Here I will list all of the promotional products that I sell. You can also view them all from my website, http://www.promotional.pro - This is meant to give everyone a wide variety of selection when purchasing promotional products for their events or gifts for employees. You can be invoiced after receiving your product if you are a valid business with ranking on Dun and Bradstreet.
2023.06.09 00:01 waansa17 1953 Foundation with no disclosures, what is this?
I bought a home on Buzzards Bay, MA in 2020 without any disclosures with an interesting basement. There's a hole in the ground with an open-end pipe attached to a cleanout, then all sorts of storm drainage that seems to terminate to the outbound sewage. I keep that hole covered with a board most of the time and have never had water come out of the hole (even when the main road is "flooding" in the last 3 years).
Would someone be able to explain whats going on here? Is it safe to remain as such? Are there any advantages to leverage, like conversion to a basement bath, or certain flood drainage? I'm assuming it's legal because it was built this way and both my neighbors have them.
The house has a whole house trap that backed up on me when we first moved in after the house was unoccupied, and roto-rooter offered to remove it for $5K-- we put in a Toto Washlet for a quarter of the price and never called them again.

2023.06.08 23:58 r_c_m_c Weekly Updates
Hey all, wanted to post for 2 reasons: to provide a record of my weekly updates on this WOE for my own accountability, and to give information to the community about what is working for me and what isn't. I am willing to discuss anything mentioned below in greater detail.
Background: American, 34F, 5'4, SW 212 (bra size 36DD (it's a little small tbh), men's Levi's size 38x30). I have tried this diet in the past but was never really strict enough...I still included things like salsa, avocadoes, condiments, hard alcohol, and way too much cheese. This time around, I'm a lot more committed to the pure basics and not so interested in finding ways to softly cheat. Part of the reason for this is also to address what I feel is a growing problem with alcohol (regularly consuming 6+ drinks per day). I have a high stress job and have been moderately depressed/anxious but unmedicated since my teen years. I recently went through the ending of an 8-year relationship as well and a move. I smoke cigarettes rarely and cannabis even more rarely, but they are both on the table for me still. Beyond weight, mental health, and alcohol abuse (my primary concerns), I hope to address stubborn acne, reactivity to poison oak and sunburn, knee and shoulder pain from old injuries, and menstrual symptoms. I currently supplement with a women's multivitamin, lysine, and krill oil...whether I continue these after I run out remains to be seen. I am not on hormonal birth control or any rx meds.
Week 1 (June 1-7): Meals consisted mostly of 80/20 ground beef, with pork sausage, bear sausage, linguica, ribeye steaks, bacon, butter, smoked salmon, cream cheese, turkey breast, and a few eggs mixed in. The first day I tried dousing everything in my normal serving of hot sauce, which was a big mistake as I found out that night and the next morning. Since then I have just used salt, pepper, and garlic powder if I feel like it. I have been decreasing the salt over my normal amount. I eat once or twice a day, so far it has been somewhere between 1-2# of meat total (not much of a measurer).
I have noticed my sleep is better in some aspects and a lot worse in others. When I was drinking, I would fall asleep easier, but wake up with heartburn, anxiety, a headache, or some combination of hangover symptoms. I do not have any heartburn anymore after the first couple days, but I wake up every hour or so and have a much harder time falling asleep. I think this could be attributed to more than just dietary changes.
I have also noticed my mood is much more stable, notably, I am not as sad. I still feel stress and anger at times, but I don't wake up with a pit of dread and I feel less "hopeless." In fact, I had the motivation to attend a yoga class for the first time in years. The caveat with this is, I live in a rainy/foggy coastal climate, and my mood generally improves around the start of summer.
I have not had any alcohol since starting. I have been drinking a LOT of LaCroix and just plain water, as well as drip coffee, espresso, and green tea (all straight, no milk of any kind). This has certainly been challenging, but I feel that combining my carb and alcohol cravings and addressing them together has so far proven more effective than trying to separate them. I have tried to stop or cut back on drinking many, many times and have not had what I would consider success for many years. The interesting thing is, I'm not experiencing crazy sugar cravings like I have in the past with quitting drinking. I may also cut back on coffee as I don't feel as sluggish in the morning once I actually get out of bed.
I have lost 7# and some pants I couldn't even get on last week now button up easily. The fat roll on my back is almost gone, and my face looks better (acne is still there, I attribute that to stress and the detox from drinking). My overall body comp has always tended to be a bit musculadense.
This next week (June 8-14), I plan to introduce 48-72 hour fasts in the mix, mostly over weekends when my stress and activity levels are a bit lower. I attempted a 24-hr fast around day 4, and found that I was just so stressed out from work that I couldn't possibly bear the additional stress of not eating. I am trying to get back in tune with my body, I have neglected it for a long time and even put on the weight as a subconscious protection measure...a different topic. I also plan to reintroduce a light weightlifting regimen, I've lifted on and off since my teen athlete days. I might attempt a run or long bike ride as well. I plan to eat more ground beef, as well as bacon, elk steaks, ground bear, pork steaks, and smoked salmon or canned sardines. I think I might try the "gallon of water a day" thing and see how that goes.
The main takeways this week: greatly increased mood and outlook, more optimism rather than pessimism, no heartburn, better digestion, and better mornings.

2023.06.08 23:55 PrincessoftheDead Working on a new series, and seeing if you guys think it needs a little help.
Our Towns Big Dam Problem [Part 1]
Do you know how some decisions in life just feel so right? Imagine a nice warm pizza right out of the oven. The pizza is covered in gooey cheese, warm meats, and whatever else will delight the eyes and nose so late into the night. So image, if you will, going out for just the briefest of seconds to enjoy the crisp feel of the fall air on your face. You come back to the apartment building that you, and appropriately 50 or 60 of your neighbors call home, only to find smoke billowing down the halls as you suddenly remember that you turned on the burner, and not the oven to preheat, and the smoke is from that pizza you left on the stove.
If you feel like burrowing down the deepest hole after reading that, just remember that you are not alone. In the last week, I have taken a job at a hydroelectric power station as an operator, which at the time felt like an easy no-brainer decision. The job description was nothing if not a little enticing. There was a hefty sign-on bonus, more money than even I thought I was worth, and housing courtesy of the Corps of Engineers, which consider the aforementioned fire above, I needed pretty badly.
My name is Kate Fugate, I am 24, and in so,
so much, debt that I have moved to a small town in the northern Appalachia wilderness hoping to carve out a life here. The town is very small, having a few local stores primary consisting of convenience stores, gas stations, and dollar stores. The town is deeply forested and has recently had the honor of having this vast area be designated a National park. The houses are sandwiched into a sharp valley, consisting of a river, sprawling train tracks, and speckled with bridges of all makes and builds. If you were to come here at night, and I very much doubt you would be here at night, you might also take notice of the emergency room-slash-post office combination with twinkling neon lights. If you plan on staying here for very long, and once again, I doubt it, you should get to know the staff.
The main attraction, and the reason that I am christening this journal, is that as much as I would like to believe otherwise, this place is weird but we will get into that more a bit later. What should be the most prominent feature of the town, the dam, is actually not in town. It is about 15 miles upstream, hidden on an unmarked road nestled in a forgotten corner of the park. This fortress spans the length of the river from hill to hill, and is a huge concrete wall with an office building made of brick and a stunningly massive art -deco window spanning the two floors of this structure neatly tucked off the side like an after thought. There are massive, brilliant flood lights spanning the entire length of the dam and stretching pretty far upstream.
The concept is pretty simple, water goes in, spins turbines, and comes out on the other side, and creates the miracles that we all know and love: electricity. In addition, this place prevents flooding and is an all-around great place for serving the town as an early indicator for fires and other disasters. To make matters even more excruciatingly boring and downright
fucking frustrating is that there no cell or internet connections to the dam or the cabin nearby that I get to call home. The formal answer I got back for this pile of fake manure is that the cell tower determined the population to “insignificant” to put a cell tower in this area, which I can almost buy. The sorry excuse for the internet is that the park service determines this spot too high of a national security threat and doesn’t want the risk of Russians destroying the place or something, this reasoning being absolutely shit if you ask me.
In order to still get a tiny shred of civilization, I have to climb a stairway to heaven itself up a fire tower, on a hill to get just enough Wi-Fi to keep some semblance of sanity. And let me tell you, my ass is burning, my tounge is dry, and my lungs are one iota from exploding from the effort, and it is worth it.
My first day here started off with my coworker, Sam, showing up
two hours late for our designated meeting. He was dressed in bright white pants and a striped plunging v-neck tiger shirt and I would be lying if I didn’t say my first impression was trying to find a camera crew, because I was just certain that someone was trolling with me. He was average height, approximately 35, black hair, blue eyes, and very well groomed hair, and huge muscular arms and, all-in-all, gave off an energy that he thought he was a very pretty boy.
We shake hands, before he cocks his head and give me a quizzical look, “Hey I noticed on your paperwork, is your name actually —“
I cut him off hard and fast, “Yes, it is. My parents were a bit, well, downright eccentric, alright? Don’t use that name, don’t even remember it alright. Do me a favor and call me Kate, Katie if you prefer.”
He looks a bit taken aback and I feel a shred of remorse for the hostility, “Can do, may name is Samuel Carrington but Sam sounds more approachable if you wouldn’t mind using that.”
We take a quick tour of the facility going into the offices, him quickly pointing out the landlines, emergency switches, exits, ect. He goes over the more technical aspects of the job, but then stops right before going into the turbine room, looks me dead in the eye with more seriousness than I thought was possible.
“There are only a handful of rules you absolutely must follow:
- 1. Treat the equipment well, it is fucking EXPENSIVE and a lot of it is specialized. There is no hydroectric repair store just sitting around the corner.
- 2. Do not leave the site. I am dead serious about this one. Do. Not. Leave. The. Site. The only time you can leave is if you have someone competent here. I am only here two days a week as I have other obligations with the government, as you know the rest is up to you until we can get more people here.
- 3. Don‘t turn off the turbines for any reason. There are people downstream that stake their lives on the continual operation of this place.
- 4. If, for whatever reason, this place can not operate due to exceptional circumstances, or can no longer contain the river you must activate the emergency system. In addition to letting out an alert, it allows for people to know in advance to get to higher ground. This is critical, we are the only thing preventing everyone downstream a brutal watery demise.“
We head continue the turbine room talk about more dull operating procedures and then stop by a small office space.
Sam stops and swings open the door which reveals all of a tiny efficiency apartment. “This is my room while I am here, if you need anything feel free to swing by.” He gives me a wink as I contemplate vomiting on his stupid gold tasseled shoes “We have a cabin for you since no other apartments exist and it was left furnished by my last guy.”
We walk a short gravel path uphill to a small old cabin with a porch. He swings open the door, leaving very little to the imagination. Bed and mattress, fridge, stove, fill nearly all the available space. Right smack in the middle of the table sits a pissed off mostly hairless cat, that jumps off the table gives us a hiss for good measure and runs off into the woods.
“Look, we can probably get rid of that if you want. I have no clue how it got in here, or hey, look at it this way! You already have a built in roommate! Feel free to decorate this place anyway you want, if you want I can go get us some food, and I can help you move in. Tomorrow I can go on a grocery run.”
I open the cabinet to find an assortment of canned oddities left over from the last occupant.
“No, that really won’t be necessary, but thank you so much for the offer.” I say trying to be nice. And then the thought occurred to me that this guy is being perhaps a bit
too friendly. “Hey, is it alright if I have some, umm, well, overnight friends over? Very special female friends?” I asked trying to be subtle to see if that would discourage him.
“Well douse me in gasoline and toss me a match. Are you a lesbian? That is so freaking awesome! I love chicks too, how cool is that? I shoulda known what with the flannel and pickup truck.” He says, totally oblivious to my growing acceptance that this guy was mostly harmless, if not a touch stupid. Sam cracks open the fridge, and rapidly shuts it back, as a slightly warm pungent smell swaggers into the room. “Yeah, definitely gonna get some real groceries tomorrow.”
“Yep, that’s me, I’m a super lesbian.” I lie feeling like this statement may come back and haunt me. I turn on the kitchen facet as black water spills out.
Sam looks at it a little concerned, “Might want to let that run for a bit, if it doesn’t clear soon, I’ll look into having it fixed. But look, seriously, if you need any help
at all, don’t hesitate to call. This place is pretty spooky and it is easy to get hurt or in trouble out here. I’ve only been here about 3 months and my last coworker got pretty messed up. I liked him pretty well and it is an easy, if not boring job but it can take a toll.” Sam stepped out on the porch shooting a slightly nervous look at the woods before looking back at me.
I waved him out, “It is alright, I’m fine, I can take care of myself. I will see you bright and early in the morning.” Sam nodded at me with me with a warm smile and made the short trek back to the dam.
Night swiftly fell, and I was clutching my stomach off loading the contents into the porcelain alter for a cruel sadistic god. I hadn’t checked the expiration date too closely before downing a can of beef tounge I had found in the cabinets, which in retrospect was such a fuckingly stupid move on my part. I stepped back into the main living area to see just a swift glint of metal, before listening to the “Crash” as my widow was busted in and a hand swiftly unlocked the door from the inside.
“Shit, this is real bad.” My brain thought. As my body tensed for a fight, in walked a figure in a green ranger uniform. The guy was 26-27, 5’11, light brown hair, green eyes, fair skin. He looked absolutely furious but satisfied.
“I got you now, you jackass arsonist.” He says, grabbed me by the arms and tossing me on a stuffed chair hard. I feel a flash of pain on my ass as I land. “Damn, I realllly hope that wasn’t a needle.” I think as jump back up. Now, he looked back at me with with sheer bewilderment in his eyes. “OH shit, oh shit, I am gonna die.” I feel dread sneak into me as scramble looking around.
I take up a knife from the counter and plunge it into his hand. He lets out a yelp and given me a kick to my already twisted stomach. ”This is it.” I think as I land on the ground, and take the chance to grab his leg while it is still in the air. I push forward as he stumbles backwards.
“Wait, but your not -“ he tries to slide out of the cabin but I pull down his socks and bite like a rabid dog, with all the energy I had. I taste a glint of metal. He starts really letting his lungs work now before coming to his senses again and grabs a fire extinguisher off the porch and hits me squarely with it. My vision swiftly faded to white after that.
My next memory has me coming back to consciousness in a hospital room. I am under a blanket with cows on it, and look over to see a shitty thin blue curtain with yellow ducks on it. As I try to piece back my memory, I hear a commotion on the other side of the curtain.
One female voice nearly splitting my ears says, “Are you a dumbass? You look like one to me dumbass. You obviously weren’t thinking, dumbass. God, what a dumbass.”
Another male voice joins in, ”A girl, you beat a harmless girl senseless. And the poor thing was starting the job at the power plant. If you weren’t in already in the hospital, I’d put here, but to be fair that would make Dr. Sanders work harder, and unlike you I actually like the guy.”
An older man wearing a white coat comes in about this time who I presume is the aforementioned individual, gives me the mouth zipping motion, a wink and walks to the other side of the curtain.
“Well, she’s dead. You may as well see your handiwork.” The old doctors says.
A younger voice pipes up, “B-B-But it was an accident. I didn’t mean-“
The curtain flies open to reveal two police officers, a short and slightly heavy male and a tall African American woman. Both looking ready to kill the park ranger in bed with his hand bandaged up. The young man looks at me absolutely horrified. I can’t help but let out a small snicker at the scene.
The white haired doctor cracks up at the look of pure indignation I shoot park ranger.
“She’ll be fine.” He says. The two officers looked a bit more at ease. Dr. Sander then goes on to say after sitting down on the edge of my bed, “You spooked us just a bit there, that one over there” he points to the park ranger, “sprayed you down with a fire extinguisher and caused some temporary asphyxiation.”
The guy piped up, “I am so so so sorry. My name is Reuben, call me Ben. I’m so sorry, I had you mistaken for someone else. I’ll make this up to you. I really really fucked this up. Please don’t hate me,” he says. He was genuine, I fully believed that.
“Glad you said, that Ben, because I’m pretty sure I need a door now. My name is Katie.” I went over and gave him a light smack to the back of the head.
Dr. Sanders gave a puzzled look and picked my chart off the bed, “Wait, isn’t your name -,”.
I stopped him, “Yep, it is, please for the love of all that is holy, just don’t.”
After that, the female officer who’s name I learned was Talia, dropped me back off at the dam the next morning. Sam who had only the vaguest of ideas of what had gone on that night was filled in by Talia of the rest of the details and she quickly leaves afterwards leaving a cloud trail in the gravel.
“Well,” Sam says “I guess this means your leaving.”
“Are you kidding?” I say, “I only just got here.”
Sam cracks a wide smile, “You’re in luck then, I forgot to show you something yesterday.”
We go into the dam, down into the basement under the water level under the turbine rooms. I gasp as I look into the room, it was beautiful. There was a massive window looking out underwater. I could swear for the slightest second though that a fish swam by, displaying three eyes, and a sharp row of teeth. I knew in that moment that this river holds terrible and dark secrets and I had not even dipped toe in them.
This is Katie, signing off, until next time.

2023.06.08 23:46 ProbablyDK She's not well, but it's not okay.
Oh boy. Warning. This is long but this is also a long time coming, and I don't blame anyone reading for not believing someone can be so cruel to their own family but... here's the true story of my MIL from hell.
About seven years ago my Mrs, Alice (36F), and I (35M) rekindled a love lost in our teens, it was awesome and so easy. She had been engaged to some jerk for years and it fizzled out, he left her with a shit ton of debt and ended up costing her thousands.
Anyway, she moves back home to do some soul searching and I come moonwalking onto the scene.
Immediately Alice leaks all the details of her parents private discussions with her, she lets me know her parents consider me a rebound thing and dislike my lack of higher education and choice of profession, give us a couple months tops. Pretty fucking mean stuff, but I had no idea how bad it would one day become.
Three years later we move in together.
So we have our first big fight, Alice declares she actually has a problem with my lack of higher education too and I take it badly, we don't talk for two days and I come home from a twelve hour shift to find a note on my fridge.
It read like a lawyer had written it and I immediately knew it wasnt from Alice. In the note I was threatened with impending homelessness and promised that in the coming days the police would be called and told the car I drive has been stolen by me. This is due to the fact that the car's finance was in Alice's name.
I immediately drove to MIL's house and was told to leave. I drove home and expected Alice to return with intent to move out. She didn't. She apologised over and over, and I accepted her apology. She explained her mother had taken control of the situation and written the note, she didn't want things to end.
Fast forward a year or so. I'm enrolled in community college, with intent to go to University and we're home from the hospital with my newborn son, Archie. MIL has invited herself over to 'help us' for the first week of him being there; first day comes and goes and Ive done all the cooking and cleaning, MIL parks herself on the sofa and hasn't moved.
Second day and Alice asks if I'd be willing to give Archie a bath (against doctors orders) and I agree. Alice then asks my MIL to help me, I'm still on cloud 9 from the birth so idgaf and I agree.
We head upstairs and I run a shallow, warm bath for my son, part ways in and he pees during the bath, my first reaction is to leave the room to grab a towel from the bathroom, before I do I physically move my MIL's hand onto my son's leg and say "watch him, I need a towel".
I grab a towel in less than five seconds I'm back with my son. We wrap him up and she takes him back down whilst I happily tidy.
On my way back downstairs I pass my MIL who tells me she is off to bed. When I arrive in the lounge Alice is holding Archie in floods of tears. "My mum said you left him alone in the bath, he could've drowned!"
Fuck this noise.
I blow a fuse. I agressively shout for my MIL to get her lying ass downstairs. She doesn't come. I threaten to come up if she doesnt come down. She doesnt come. I begin up the stairs and she appears, crying, holding her suitcase and runs out the house into the pouring rain. She stands in the rain for nearly 90mins waiting to be picked up. Alice begs for me to get her indoors. I head out and ask her why she lied, I get no answer, just her crying her eyes out and insisting Alice is an abusive daughter who beat her up as a teen. I should've fucking known then and there what I was dealing with, but it gets worse.
Skip ahead to 2023. My son is 3 and my daughter is 1. My in-laws have moved to a different country across the continent and whilst we are by no means on good terms, I tolerate them.
Alice and I have the mother of all arguments and it ends with Alice becoming physically aggressive and manages to throw something at me. I react accordingly and make plans to leave. In the heat of the arguement Alice calls her mother who asks us both to calm down. We do and things are very difficult for a few days.
One morning I get told that Alice plans to take my children to see her parents abroad. We are broke so I immediately ask how, and I'm told she (MIL) has paid for all of their flights. Alice is ecstatic to be going and doesn't understand why I would be upset at not being invited.
A week or so later and I've managed to scrounge up the cash for tickets. I ask MIL if I'm welcome and she says yes.
Roughly three weeks ago (May of 2023) Alice tells me that her mother is not pleased I'm now joining them on the trip she she believes we 'Need a break' as a couple and sees this trip as a chance for her to consider permanently moving in with them. She has also contacted a lawyer and asked if
A. Is it possible to take my name off of the deed to the house as I have been in higher education and contributed considerably less money to mortgage payments than Alice.
and
B. Do Grandparents have any rights over that of fathers if said fathers are reported to be abusive.
Alice reassures me none of this is possible, but, incredibly, doesn't seem phased by these hideous attempts at ruining my life.
Fast forward to the trip. 7 days ago.
MIL meets us at the airport with and we drive to her house. Its a huge house, an absolutely beautiful mansion that has sadly been decimated by cats. The smell as I entered nearly made me sick. The floors are filthy, and the cats had completely covered the place in urine and its overpowering.
We are then told our bed has been used as a litter tray, the mattress is soaked in cat pee and on top of this the kitchen looks as if it hadnt been cleaned in months.
I'm polite enough to only divulge my disgust to Alice and even spend two hours cleaning the kitchen as a way of saying thanks for paying for the flights for my kids.
We head out in the car again and she shows us around her village, she strangely starts a 20min long speech about the local schools and job opportunities.. is she.. is she trying to convince us to live there? She then goes on to explain how she has been diagnosed with 'proper clinical depression' and begins to passive agressively explain how most people's depression is just a low mood and is 'nothing in comparison'. I should note that during my years at university I was diagnosed with depression, a fact she undoubtedly knew.
After more than I can stomach the MIL stops the car and declares she cannot drive down this particular road and must turn around. At which point she accidentally slams on the accelerator and drives head first into a brick wall. She all but totals the car and the wall is demolished, my kids are shook but fine, and I'm so fucking angry but I keep my cool. We limp home.
The first night in the house of many cats was unbearable. The heat and the stench had us gagging, I was pacing the room all night trying to figure out how to politely leave, but without any luck rearranging our flights.
Day two and we walk to a cafe for breakfast. I dont speak the local language and my MIL orders for us. My MIL reminds us she has recently had a gastric band fitted and I'am given an extremely small breakfast (one bread roll) filled with a meat I do not like but she werent to know so I eat it with sips of juice to help it go down.
Hours later we drive into the city, bear in mind the last time I ate a meal was in my home country, and Im famished after a small breakfast. We walk around the city for a couple hours and I ask if we can stop to eat.
My MIL rolls her eyes and throws her hands up in the air and this time I bite.
I explain how I haven't eaten a meal for going on 30+ hours and Im famished, my kids are hungry and I want something I know I'll at least enjoy. I wasnt overtly rude and I didnt blame anyone but I was clearly upset.
Back at the house and my fiance corners me "My mum said you attacked her, my Dad is furious, I said you didnt attack anyone but she is inconsolable".
I'm given ice cold treatment and ignored for most of the evening until later on and Alice and I are sat by the front door of the house, MIL walks up to the front door screaming to someone on speaker phone "I'm going to remind him who's house he's in if he thinks he is going to freeload off of us, I'm going to remind him who's food he is eating".
I look at Alice and just walk to our piss soaked room, defeated.
The next morning MIL has been told I overheard her and she has no intention of making any apologises. She hurls abuse about how childish I'am, how she has no time for drama and how she will not humour my attempts to bully her.
My FIL comes to me and asks me to reconsider my being upset, and insists the conversation I overheard was a misunderstanding. I let loose and explain it all - everything Ive explained here... and he immediately leaves the room and berates her.
She cries, plays victim, claims the whole family is ganging up on her and she goes to bed. That was four days ago. In those four days she has criticised Alices' weight constantly, threatened to hit my 3 yo if he misbehaves and insisted that my being 36 means my newly acquired degree is too little too late.
And so... Im still here, we've endured eachother for the sake of the kids, but I write this on the piss soaked mattress, miles from home, under the thumb of someone who I now understand is not mentally well at all.
We fly home tomorrow and out of hell, I can't wait, but I know this isnt the last I've seen of her.
TL;DR - MIL lies to S/O about me, threatens to ruin my life, report my car stolen, take my kids away, ridicules me, takes my family abroad and houses us in filth.

2023.06.08 23:21 Lazy_Caterpillar1384 Looking for some advice on buying a condo
Hi Guys!
Bit of a new buyer here, my fiancè and I are planning to move in together in August/September of this year (right after our wedding!)
I was originally planning on finding an apartment to rent but am considering buying because Id like to use my money to get property as opposed to losing it in rent. The thing is, Im pretty constrained in terms of budget and do not plan on taking a mortgage for religious reasons.
- Ideally looking for a 2 bed 2 bath condo
- Budget of 400K-450K to buy upfront (no mortgage). Between my dad and I we can arrange for this much, but it will be almost all of my savings
- Looking in GTA, but a safe neighborhood (avoiding Brampton, Jane & Finch)
Wanted to get some folks opinion on good neighborhoods to explore that may fit that price range and description? I was thinking about Vaughan possible, but am not too fixed on a location, as long as its in GTA
Secondly, Im caught between buying an older apartment vs a newer condo
Older: Tends to be more spacious (~900ft) High maintenance fees, Im worried about reselling this in the future, whether the property will grow in value or stay stagnant (or drop due to inflation)
Newer: Lower maintenance fees Condo features (gym, etc) Very cramped (~600ft)
I wanted to get some thoughts on growth and resell of older vs newer condos.
My third option is to rent and book a preconstruction for move in 2027/2028. This would be a rent of about 2500 I suppose, and the condo would cost 750K to 850K
Thanks! Free to chat in private too!

2023.06.08 23:11 ralphy_256 Don't tell me computers can't learn
Just realized this one today.
So, I've got a small stack (5-6) of Dell laptops in my POE that need various h/w warranty repair that I haven't gotten around to in a while. As one of my 'rocks', I've been tasked with getting all the machines under warranty working and all the out of warranty recycled.
So, I put my queue of warranty machines in a spare cube and figure I'll call in 1 repair a week, get this taken care if with minimal fuss.
1st machine has a 'no power' condition. No cables will power this machine (USB-C ports are of the devil), so tech comes out with a new system board. I point him at his patient and go back to reddit. A few minutes later, I hear loud square wave beeping. I assume it was a beep code. I hear a few more. Then I hear a phone call for 10-15 mins.
Then the tech interrupts me and lets me know he's not going to be able to fix this right now, would I like him to come back out or do a depot. Start the depot, no problem, tech leaves.
Now, here's the spooky bit. All that was last ThuFri. Today, I go back in that cube, start going through the remaining machines that need warranty repair for various no boot conditions.
Except, suddenly they're all booting. Even the one that took a coffee (with cream and sugar) bath 3 months ago. The one that wouldn't get through PXE boot without a BSOD, suddenly images no problem.
Don't tell me computers can't learn.

2023.06.08 23:07 justarunner How to accept check donations for a fully remote/geographically disparate nonprofit and sync with CRM?
Just became the first employee of a nonprofit that was designed to be remote. Board president has always had checks just mailed to her and she'd sign and give to a local bookkeeper. Bookkeeper would get the check to the local bank and also get the info into the CRM.
Well, I'm full time now and live many states away. Checks shouldn't be sent to what is essentially a home address of a board member. I want to move us to a national bank and automate accepting checks and hopefully go a step further and automate that check entry into the CRM if possible?
What is the solution I'm looking for? My Google searches are beyond fruitless.
TIA!

2023.06.08 23:02 Cocao_Nibs The Duelist in Purple Armor v2 Remastered, Chapter 2
FirstNext
Well, it only took Canada burning and the East Coast turning into smoky rendition of a Mexico filter for this chapter to finally reach completion. Regularly-scheduled programming should hopefully resume after July 4th. Until then, drink some water, don't do gender reveals in the forest, and hang in there, guys! Pursuant to Imperial Decree 10928, and in recognition of the reservist nature of the unit, the 1st Rocket Artillery Regiment has been found to satisfy the standards outlined in the Decree. However, in light of the significant budget and nonmaterial resource allocations that were required to bring the aforementioned unit up to levels considered satisfactory by existing standards, additional considerations beyond readiness and training levels must be taken into account. Throughout the appeals process, you have repeatedly indicated that you believe rocket artillery to still have a place on the modern battlefield, citing recent reports from the Terran Planetary District command of the Sol System sector, as well as early after-action reports from the Intervention on Raknos, which you claim to support your argument. However, further investigation into this claim by independent analysts on behalf of Armored Warfare Command has found it to hold no merit in light of the recent restructuring outlined in detail in prior communications. Simply put, neither the Empress, nor her advisors, believe that the maintenance and garrisoning of units intended strictly for low-intensity counter-insurgency operations remains doctrinally viable. Additionally, the excessive monetary and nonmonetary resources you requested in preparation for the evaluation, in light of the on-par, verging on substandard performance of the 1st Rocket Artillery Regiment, even accounting for the large number of fresh troops that needed to be drawn down from other posts to fill out its ranks, is highly suggestive on the part of you, the honorable Ashira Rakishal. This discrepancy is of high importance, and you may rest assured that it has already been publicly filed by the time this letter appears in your inbox. Such a discrepancy is indicative of either incompetence or corruption on your part. Commanding officers may face demotion or a possible dishonorable discharge for the former, or, for the latter, a fine totalling no more than one-and-a-half times the estimated sum of the damages assessed, guaranteed dishonorable discharge and a potential prison term of no more than four years. Due to there being no evidence to suggest the latter, the former approach has been suggested by the Armored Warfare Command. Effective fourteen (14) days after this order is signed, your rank will be reduced and you will be relieved of commanding the Regiment. You may be restationed at this time, and your government-issued devices may be deactivated to facilitate this restationing. The 1st Rocket Artillery Division, in accordance with Decree 10928, will be dissolved and its assets relocated to other units wherever possible. Any remaining property will be auctioned under section 12.57.3(g) of the Naval and Marine Surplus Handling Act of 651 at the Val’tira Central Forwarding Depot. Ashira finished reading the letter, but the words meant nothing to her. She hadn't slept in half a week, if not longer, in anticipation of the results from her hearing. In fact, she'd hardly gotten up from her desk; the 1st RAR was on leave until the final verdict would be announced publicly, and it was all she could do but to refresh her inbox every few minutes and watch mindless clips in the background that she hardly heard and never managed to remember a word from.
She tried reading it again, but the letters seemed to float off the screen, each one wrapped in a halo of bluish white screen glow. Nothing made sense.
'We were found to be satisfactory, but then… why does it talk about my rank? Am I getting promoted? There was something about dishonorable discharges, too, so… are some of my girls getting let go? I guess I will have to break the news to them. And it said something about budget overruns… well, mom still owes me from when she forgot to get me anything for my eighteenth last month, so I guess she can pay them back for all the equipment and training I had to authorize…' Her thoughts were already drifting off into a vague haze when her stomach made a low noise, reminding her of the fact that she hadn't eaten in hours, mostly because her supply of food had run dry. Almost in a trance, she rose from her desk and, almost on autopilot, set about getting ready to go out and do some shopping, as she always did. The floor of her living quarters was almost entirely hidden by weeks-old discarded packaging, mountains of dirty clothes, and bottles half-filled with liquid that was either expired juice or urine. Narrow paths snaked through the mess; one to the bathroom, one to her bed, and one more still to the door, which she now slowly shambled towards.
Ashira pulled a pair of battered combat boots over her bare feet - she'd run out of socks that didn't offend her senses some weeks prior - without bothering to lace them, shoved her wallet into the front pocket of the fireproof jumpsuit she wore with absolutely nothing underneath and hadn't changed out of all week, and shoved the door open to head out. Immediately, the smell - or, perhaps, a lack thereof - of the corridor hit her. All the sleeping quarters were locked. It was quiet. Though her boots were heavy, her footsteps barely made a noise as she plodded along the thick, purple and topaz-blue carpet that lined the floor.
The door to the lobby was propped open by a cleaner's cart, and a heavy perfume of chemical detergents wafted through the opening as she approached. In the lobby was a small, older Helkam male, with his long and, in places, graying hair tied back with a beige bandana that matched his civilian contractor's coveralls, just as his green noise-canceling headphones matched the company logo on his uniform. He was dutifully mopping the already nigh-spotless polished stone floor, and there was only a narrow dry strip connecting doorway to doorway.
“‘Scuse me,” she mumbled, tapping him on the shoulder to alert him to her presence. “Coming through.”
He flinched away from her touch, and she flinched away from him, as though his own shock was contagious. “The fuck, you touch me!?” He exclaimed, whipping around to face her, mop at the ready like a Turox-prod. His face burned a pale but furious violet, contorted with fear and a readiness to fight. But, just as suddenly as he’d come to face her, his expression became one of confusion. His mop dipped down, and they stood in silence for a split second that seemed to drag on for entire minutes. Then, he made an odd face, as if of disgust or contempt, and stepped aside, motioning for her to pass by him.
Ashira would have been puzzled by this, if only she were not so frazzled and caught up in her own thoughts. She stepped outside and was immediately hit by a cool breeze; it was night out, and the wind blew in just as it always did. Not that it bothered her much; over the previous months, she had found that it didn’t seem to affect her very much. The only reason she wasn’t feeling the full brunt of the evening gales was that the buildings around the officer’s quarters were mostly two- and three-story affairs, their height and old, weathered stone cladding the last specters of the prominence and prestige the base enjoyed in the long-before times. Before the Unification Wars were but a distant memory. Before the Periphery had become the final, unconquerable frontier. Before the Empress-damned mess that was Raknos. Before Rocket Artillery had become hopelessly obsolete.
The wind blew, relentless and steadfast, as she trudged towards the only place on-base that still had its lights on. The general store. She didn’t know what she wanted to buy there, nor if there would indeed be anything on the shelves that she’d want to buy, but she felt she had to try, anyway. The only rest she could get now was chemically-assisted, either through over-the-counter sleeping pills, or copious volumes of booze, or, when the going got particularly rough, a combination of both. She was vaguely aware of the damage she was probably inflicting upon her organs, but she figured that they were a worthy sacrifice. Still, some days she couldn't fall asleep, even boozed up and medicated as much as she would dare, so she would lie in bed, staring at the ceiling, hoping that the splitting headaches she would get from that chemical cocktail would make her ears ring loud enough to drown out her intrusive thoughts.
The store wasn't particularly warm when she entered, and it reeked of cigarette smoke and mildew as always. The nearest set of shelves to the door were stocked with bags of some sort of imported breaded meat snacks labeled
Pufriyah - Ancestral Recipe, Modern Taste! across the top shelf and cases of Red Grains across the bottom, as if some long-forgotten planner had seen into the future and anticipated Ashira's shopping habits exactly. Without much thought, she pulled a case of the Reds off the bottom shelf, her back, which had been sore for months by then, crying out in pain that just barely cut through her apathy. She threw a few bags of the
Pufriyah snacks on top of it, entirely indifferent to their name, slogan, and brown-furred chibi mascot that spoke to their Rakiri intended consumer base.
'It's all just carbs and protein at the end of the day,' she figured. It wasn't like she could taste much of them anyway, had she really cared to learn their flavor. It was close to a month prior that she'd caught a nasty cold, and her constant sleep deprivation and stress hadn't lent themselves to it clearing itself up on its own. Her senses of taste and smell were unnecessary to her whipping her unit into shape, she'd decided, once she learned that the antivirals she needed to take to make her symptoms clear up would need her to be on bed rest for three straight days. She could always take them later, anyway.
The bottles of Red Grain clanked against each other as Ashira heaved the case onto the checkout counter. The bags on top of it slid off, and she only just caught them in time. The noise awoke the lone cashier, another civilian contractor, from her nap atop her wobbly three-legged stool. She quite inelegantly hopped off of it and came to lean against the counter with one hand, the other lazily waving the scanner of a specialized Data-Slate over the merchandise.
"ID for the Reds," the cashier groggily slurred out, patting down her many pockets in search of a cigarette box. "Standard procedure, nothing personal against you."
Ashira stared at her, dumbfounded, for a few moments too many, before it hit her that she needed to pull up her Marine Profile on her Slate. Mumbling an apology mixed with an excuse, she reached into one of the few - albeit cavernously huge - pockets of her fireproof suit and produced the grimy government-issue device in question. The lock screen was set to her ID, just to make such common interactions go by quicker.
She pushed the Slate across the counter, expecting to get it slid back to her in a few moments, and maybe a manufactured smile and a nod if the cashier noticed the Rakishal House crest in the corner and realized she was of noble blood. But this time, none of that happened. The woman across from her frowned, squinting as she analyzed something about the ID, her face no more than perhaps a few centimeters from it. She looked up at Ashira, then back down at the ID, then back at her, and then all of a sudden her confusion melted into some odd mixture of shock and disgust. She wordlessly pushed the Slate back across the counter, scanned the case of Red Grain, and then motioned to a now very baffled and somewhat offended Ashira that she was free to leave.
In her sleep-deprived state, Ashira had barely the mental capacity to remember where the door was, much less to ponder the deeper meaning behind what had transpired. Vowing to come back the next day, after getting a good night's sleep, and get the insolent cashier fired, she trudged out of the shop, back to the officers' quarters, where the Helkam man was still toiling away in the lobby, now wiping down the Turox-leather seats, and into her own suite.
She brushed the most egregious of the trash from her bed, with the arm that wasn't clutching the spoils of her trek to her chest, and allowed gravity to gracelessly guide her into its soft, fitted-sheet embrace. With a sigh of barely-felt relief, she cracked the cap off her first bottle with her tusks and took a long, well-earned swig.
The next thing she knew, it was morning.
Everything hurt. Ashira's muscles all ached like she'd run every Deathshead Commando bootcamp course, back-to-back, without stopping. Her head felt like a bloated, rotten gourd, ready to burst at the slightest touch. Even though her eyes were closed, what little light made it through them felt as though it was piercing straight through her eyeballs and into her brain. However, through it all, she noted an odd, almost pleasant sensation that she hadn't felt in so long, she'd almost forgotten the word for it.
'Empress all-powerful, this must be the first time in almost a year that I've had a full night's sleep!' Ashira would have kept laying there, exactly where she was. The room was quiet. No one needed her. Her unit was stood down for another few days. She could just stay in bed, in peace, and wait for the pain to subside. But the very second she considered that possibility, her bladder cried in agony, and she simultaneously came to the realizations that she would not be able to hold it in for even a minute longer, and that she was wearing her only set of relatively-clean clothes.
She pushed herself up and onto her feet, and that motion sent showers of sparks cascading through her vision, even as her eyes stayed firmly shut. Her ears rang from the pain as though she'd stuck her head between the prongs of a colossal tuning fork, her limbs felt numb as she stumbled through her room, and the only way she could tell up from down was from the direction gravity kept pulling her every time she lost her balance.
She hit the door frame to the bathroom by chance, only recognizing it as the right one by the light switch her elbow painfully caught. From there, she went entirely by feel. There was the sink, the towel rack, the soap dispenser, the shower door… and finally, having run out of wrong things to blindly grope around for, her hand bumped into the tank of the toilet. Even bending down made her head fill with the pounding beat of her heart, every pulse seeming to try and push her brain out of her skull through her eyes and ears. She nearly blacked out as she sat down.
The next thing Ashira knew, she was doubled over her sink, dry-heaving, her fireproof pants pulled back up around her waist but neither zipped shut nor clipped together at the front. She knew for certain that nothing had come up, because she was newly aware of the desiccated dryness in her mouth and throat, as if all her flesh had been replaced with fine-grit sandpaper. Still lacking the resolve to open her eyes, she blindly clawed at the knobs of the sink until water began to pour, and then began scooping handfuls of it into her mouth.
After a few gulps, she began to feel a bit better. Her mouth, though it still felt dry as ever, was at least now rid of the horrible, sour, metallic taste that she hadn't registered until it was gone, and the unintentional splashing of water onto her face did wonders in helping her start to truly wake up. The very next instant, though, a numbing pain spread across her hands and face, and down her throat. The water was freezing cold.
That didn't deter Ashira, though, and she kept drinking until she knew that she would not be able to swallow a drop more without throwing up. Her hands were numb from the frigid water, as was her face. Icy rivulets streamed down her chin and throat and under her unzipped collar, leaving cool, glistening trails across her breasts and stomach.
Somehow, this numbness that spread across her fingers and cheeks seemed to have carried over to her hangover, as well, though whether it was the rapid cooling, or the much-needed hydration, or both, she neither knew nor cared. Her head now hurt with the intensity of just any old headache, her skin did not feel two sizes too small for her organs, and her muscles and joints barely ached with any more intensity than they usually did.
She opened her eyes for the first time since she'd gotten out of bed, ready and eager to take full advantage of her hangover cure while its effects still lasted, and almost fell over as she stumbled away from the mirror in shock. The reflection in the mirror was decidedly
not her.
Bloodshot eyes stared out at her from dark, sunken orbits; two craters on a puffy face rendered a waxy, pale bluish lilac by months of near-total involuntary isolation from the daylight. Raven hair framed that lifeless visage, once kept neat and short, now a wild, greasy, and, above all, long Seetcha's nest. It had once had lively sun-bleached streaks where her beret and headset did not fully cover it, from when she would ride head-out in her trusty command Ishtarti-603, but they were now mere faded tips spread unevenly through the carbon-black tangle.
The rest of her was not in much better shape. Her bust, though always on the fuller size, was nonetheless noticeably larger than it had been the last time Ashira had inspected her reflection, and doubtless was the cause of her incessant back pain. In the same moment, she became aware that her breasts rested not against the top of her six-pack - which, while rarely worked out and never particularly defined, had, in its mere presence, still been a point of quiet pride for her - but at the upper limits of a beer gut, whose faint outline was visible even under the baggy suit she was wearing for the umpteenth day in a row, and which stood as a testament to the inertia she had descended into while trying to force the RAR into motion.
'Fuck, there's the evidence of my battle. Mom was right, I do eat like a Turox before the slaughter. I have no self-control. Why do I even bother with this restructuring business if I can't even keep to my own damn fitness goals?' Her gloom, though deep and all-consuming while it weighed upon her soul, dissipated just as quickly as it set in.
'But I knew it would happen, so why does it surprise me? I knew going in that I was burning myself up in the present to keep future me warm. It's just a few kilos. A dozen at most. No big deal. Just need a bit more exercise for a month or two and I'll be right back in parade shape!' It did, however, make her think to place an order with the on-base supply depot for some new clothes. With the Unification Day festivities looming, it would simply not do for this quite temporary distortion of her Noble figure to be so brazen, she firmly decided.
The order would have to wait, however. When Ashira brought out her government-issued Data-Slate from her front pocket in a familiar motion, already compiling a list of all the workout gear, field uniforms, and parade garb she would need in a size up, the device, in an apparent bout of unruliness, first resisted her efforts to turn it on, and when it was finally made to do so, simply boot-looped endlessly on the startup screen. For all intents and purposes, it was a Slate-shaped paperweight, and Ashira didn’t even have enough physical documents in her possession to make use of this one purpose it had left.
‘First my clothes, now the one Slate mom can’t track me on. What’s next, is my ID going to expire all of a sudden? Will my physical Chit card have a bad contact?’ There was only so much she could take at one time, so she decided to do the sensible thing and get something to eat before returning to dealing with her problems. She pulled out her Slate. It was almost noon.
'No one needs to see me like this. How can I command the regiment if they see me in such a state? I'll order breakfast - well, lunch now, but who's really counting? - and I can join everyone for dinner, once I get a chance to order in some new clothes, and shower, and maybe do something with my hair.' With a practiced motion, so automatic it was almost a reflex, she swiped through the interface until she found what she was looking for. There, between
Combatters forum sites, was a saved page for the
Hungry Gal's order menu. Her chit was already saved in the system. All she needed was to tap on "Large Hot Meal #5 - Drink Combo" and…
CHIT DECLINED - PAYMENT BLOCKED "That can't be right," Ashira muttered aloud as she tapped the button again, over and over, to the same effect. "It's a government card. Unless- ah, right, it must be the new policy they were talking about! Can't believe they made food expenses count as personal expenditure only, the nerve of these credit-pinching…"
She went into the payment details section of the page, switched the number to her personal one, and selected "Large Hot Meal #5 - Drink Combo" again. This time, a new message appeared.
INVALID ACCOUNT - DEACTIVATED The gnawing hunger in her stomach disappeared in an instant, replaced by a solid iron bar of dread. Why was her account deactivated? Who could have done it? The only other person with access privileges was her own mother, and why would she…?
Ashira knew the answer. She didn't want to know it, to acknowledge that she knew it for fear of what it meant, but she did. With shaking hands, she opened the notification screen of her Slate, and saw she had unread messages from her family group chat. She tapped that notification, expecting a deluge of fury about her weight, her spending habits, her slovenly appearance in public, or any manner of other things, but there was but one message, sent earlier that morning. It was from her mother, indeed, but it was just four words long.
I got the letter. She wanted to protest, to scream, "What letter could you possibly mean?," but she couldn't. A memory, hazy from the fog of insomnia that had dulled her thoughts at the time, played against her volition in her mind. The words hadn't made sense to her then, but they did now. Robotically, she closed the message from her mother and searched through her inbox for one marked with a government seal. She opened it, and read it in silence. The last few lines were the hardest to read, because by then the tears had begun to well up in her eyes.
It was over. Her career, her noble status, her finances, her life as she knew it… they were all gone, and it had taken just one letter to send it all crashing down.

2023.06.08 22:54 dogtoes101 why do we allow them to pay so little?
maybe allow isn't the correct word but i wasn't sure what else to use.
i just got a job offer. $12/hr but she said my references had amazing things to say about me so she offered me the managers position at $15/hr. managers. $15/hr. for a manager. thats insane. i worked at sheetz at $18 as a regular salesperson, managers make $22. even mcdonalds starts off at $16 where i am! i just think it's truly pathetic they pay people $12-15 (cant forget the tips!!!! 🙄) meanwhile they have to sell people almost $10 for a SMALL mac and cheese that they cook in a water bath. a billion dollar company paying their employees almost $10 below the living wage is just crazy to me.

2023.06.08 22:53 Pseudoname3 Proof That More Shares Can Be Held Than Outstanding
I think now is a good time to remind everyone that when Bee Bee Bee Why filed bankruptcy, they also submitted a "LIST OF EQUITY SECURITY HOLDERS" (
Go here and search that) which showed that the account for Cede & Co held more shares than ever outstanding, as explained in u/ WhatCanIMakeToday's reddit post "End Game...". This means that our initial thesis for GameStop, that there can be more shares held than outstanding, is a very real possibility and is a very real threat for publicly traded companies.
This very real possibility can be blamed on the FACT that market makers are given the ability to sell shares naked in the name of liquidity but also at the expense of price discovery (if you can always get shares at the market price, when does the price have to move to find buyers or sellers?) This basically gives market makers control over the supply of shares, breaking supply and demand as we know it in the market.
Combine this with the FACT that certain market makers can also have certain hedge funds that may or may not have a short position in certain companies and so would benefit from an increased supply of shares driving the price down, and you have a recipe for
Cellar Boxing, making it especially difficult for companies to raise capital since they would have to sell more shares at depressed prices,
which unfortunately seemed to happen with BBBY and many other companies that have fallen victim to this tactic.
So combine THAT with all the short and distort (forget GameStop), glitches, aftermarket manipulation, CFTC swap data hidden, and Kenny aging like a raisin, no I dont think we are chasing windmills.
But lets continue to DRS a fundamentally sound company to prove it

2023.06.08 22:50 TwelveSmallHats Warhammer Underworlds card lore snippets, part 4: Direchasm
Previous posts:
Standard opening:
For those unfamiliar with Warhammer Underworlds, it's Games Workshop's card/mini/board game set in the Mortal Realms. Almost every card in the game has a small snippet of lore on it in addition to its rules text; some of the lore is simple statements about the card's effect, but others describe the setting or the fighters or provide in-universe quotes. I haven't found a card library that compiles these lore snippets (they are understandably focused on the rules), so I decided to compile them myself.
This is my fourth post of the project, compiling the cards from the third season of the game, Direchasm. In this season, the warbands venture deeper into Beastgrave, where the living mountain's hunger is more apparent.

2023.06.08 22:47 SillyTumbleweed2020 I'm throwing in the towel...
Hey guys.
I can't raise my 10 week old pug puppy anymore. Thank you for all your help and support but this is just way too much stress and pressure.
Im a young woman who lives by herself and works from home so I thought I could do it. At first it was fun and all my friends were on board. But then the realization that it was all on my shoulders set in. And that's when the pressure started crushing me.
From the get go I was determined to be the proper puppy parent. In 2 weeks I set up a playpen, lined it with pee pads to catch accidents that i changed once a day, tried out 2 different puppy crates, I bought him 10 toys of different varieties, I started him on his shots, got him as potty trained as I could going out to pee every hour and a half, got him a snuggle puppy, wash his crate bedding every night, went through 4 different kinds of treats to find what he likes (he's very picky), signed him up for puppy classes, and have taught him to sit, stand up, and he knows his name.
But after all this... I feel very dead inside. He doesn't feel like a dog, he feels like a project. And he feels like a balancing act that I will ruin if I do not constantly stay on top of him. I've read all kinds of books to try and redirect behavior but he still chews up his puppy pads and bites me so hard it scares me. I know he's a puppy but after adopting him, I realized that I'm very mentally ill...
A grew up with a family who didn't love or care about me. And that's not an understatement, my dad does meth, and my mom is a hoarder who is very mentally ill. There were years and years of fear, abuse, and not having access to regular food or hot water. I almost never bathed. for a period of time I lived out of my mothers car. I worked very hard to get out at 17 and live on my own. I moved 8 times while in college (living in my car, couch hopping, moving into places for a couple months and then having to move out) I've never had any relief I've never had anybody just stick by me and help me through life. I've had 8 different therapist and I've been on 10 different medications. None of the medications worked and they made me very suicidal so I chose to just do life on my own.
Even my therapists had no idea how to help me because they all said "You're too self aware of your issues, most people figure it out after realizing. But I don't know how to help you move past something you already realize."
I am 28 now and the most responsible out of all of my friends. All of my finances are on a spreadsheet, I have a savings, I live on my own, I have a career that pays 6 figures, And all of it was gotten through patience and sacrifice and hard hard work. That work has left me very spent and broken and raw and I didn't realize it until I had to raise a puppy. I didn't realize how complete of a person I needed to be in order to raise a puppy. I wanted love from the puppy, but I didn't realize that the puppy needed things from me before it could give me love.
I want a family so terribly badly. So very very badly. I want a family so badly that I could cry about it for hours. I used to try and cope but my most recent therapist told me "It's ok if you're someone who cannot be alone. Every single person on the planet cannot be alone. Some people need others constantly." She thinks I may be autistic and recommended the idea of a pet but i was terrified of ruining its life by not being good enoigh. I tried to overcome this fear by telling myself that I am good enoigh. I have a boyfriend but him and I are not close enough for him to help me look after my puppy. But he is by far the closest I've ever gotten to feeling like I have a family. I've spoken to him about this and I've spoken about how hurt I feel and how rough the world has been on me and how I don't think a puppy is something that I can manage when I desperately desperately need to feel loved. He agreed. He helped me realize that my puppy cannot make me feel loved because the puppy needs to be taught how to exist first. The puppy and I haven't even really bonded yet and he doesn't care about me yet. He just cares about being alive right now.
I thought he would lick me or come to me or want to sleep on me but no, he only wants to bite and play. He is crate trained but once in the middle of the night i let him sleep in my bed and the bed is just a giant river of stimulation to him where all he wants is to just chew on the blankets and wave his legs and head so fast that he almost hurts himself and falls off the bed. It's almost like hes obsessed with it. He doesn't even really care about food. He doesn't even really care about much of anything else. I taught him that toys are fun and that's great but... he quickly runs to me and bites my legs and hands and lunges at me and sinks his teeth so hard. I just can't tire him out enough. He just wants to play and play and play and play. The crate is the only thing that calms him down.
The most embarrassing thing is that people will ask me why I rehomed him and the answer is that I've been having thoughts of self harm and abandonment. I cannot believe that I am someone who has a well paying career, completely supports themselves on their own, keeps their home extremely clean and tidy, keeps up with every single one of her chores, cooks every meal for themselves, takes excellent care of herself... and I can't handle a puppy.
(I have celiacs disease which is an auto immune disorder so I cannot eat at 90% of restaurants. I also cannot live with roommates unless they are celiac or eat entirely gluten free or I will ingest a microscopic amount if gluten and I out myself at risk for disease very badly)
Please be nice to meet everyone. I don't want solutions on how to keep my puppy. I need advice from people who have done the same and I just need to grieve. I've been asked by people to try and adopt an adult dog and maybe thats an option. But right now I feel like a failure. Everyone thought: "if anyone can do it, she can do it" but I feel lower than dirt. The puppy is with my friend right now and he is telling me that it's ok if it's not a good fit. It's ok if my mind isn't allowing me to feel at peace with a puppy in the house. He says it's ok if an adult dog will be a slower pace for me. But quite frankly, I just feel so undeserving.

2023.06.08 22:46 Intelligent-Cover818 Club Level - Prince Waikiki vs Alohilani - 1st timers
Hi there - I know everyone is probably sick of resort posts lol But, I'd love some feedback on this, as the pricing is near equal for both of these, and I've never been and don't have context.
We are currently booked for two partial oceanfront rooms LongBoard Club at Alohilani. I understand it was an older building that was redone, and based on what I've read: -people seem to either love it, or think it was not up to standard. -it's hip, great rooftop poolbar, rooms and elevators leave a lot to be desired -great mostly central waikiki location -service is hit or miss - definitely not super amazing from what I've gathered -club level is pretty good with a breakfast, dinner pasta bar, and a lot of wine/craft beer.
https://www.alohilaniresort.com/hotel/longboard-club/longboard-club-menu/ https://www.alohilaniresort.com/hotel/longboard-club/ We are only here two nights, and have some tours so I'm not too crazy concerned but I'd love some feedback because Prince Waikiki also has Club Level rooms and with a summer promo, it's coming out to about the same price. I know there are a LOT of diehard Prince fans and I can tell from reviews it is very well loved, the staff is beyond amazing and it's a lovely place to stay. I guess what I am asking for is if anyone has experience with their Club Level specifically, and what they thought? Is the location being so far down by the marina burdensome if you're trying to be closer to stuff in Waikiki (shops, food, etc). Has anyone done Alohilani and Prince and can offer some idea of the differentials firsthand?
Because this resort choice kicks off our vacation, to some extent that service element matters. My family has never been to Hawaii and it sounds like the Prince is really amazing to arrive to and stay at! For reference, we are a family of six - 2 adults with three adult children and one 13 year old.
Thank you!

2023.06.08 22:40 thesweetestgoodbye 2.5 year old will not stay asleep through the night
Ever since the past few weeks my now 2.5 refuses to stay asleep through the night. We put her down at 8 (her bedtime used to be 7:30), or we ATTEMPT to put her down at 8, but that’s another long drawn out battle of her crying and coming out of the bed repeatedly not wanting to sleep. She finally falls asleep, and is up at 3:30 am, last Saturday she was up at 1. She’s learned how to open doors now. We tell her to go back to bed, she does, wakes right back up, cycle repeats till I end up going in and sleeping on the floor by her bed for an hour. We need her to get sleep for daycare so I was resorting to just going in there with her. Prior to this she was waking at 5am everyday, which I would gladly take back. She goes to daycare M-F, so she’s active all day there; we try to keep her active on weekends too. Her doctor suggested melatonin, that didn’t work, we do warm baths, making her bed more inviting, being consistent with her bedtime routine but nothing is working. My husband was up from 3am last night telling her to go back into bed constantly, we had a baby gate up which she can now climb, so we are at a loss of how to get her to sleep through the night like she used to. She’s had this bed since April, and she was sleeping on it great! Now I have anxiety every night about how our nights are gonna go and when she will eventually be awake. She makes excuses like she has to potty (she has a pull up on) or some random body part hurting. It’s been almost a month now, any suggestions?? 😩

2023.06.08 22:25 pinkbunny-hearts I write to help myself cope. please dont read if sensitive to TW: DV, CA, SA, etc
I’m shaking inside his bed. I shouldn’t have come over. This is all my fault. I have bee n held hostage inside his windowless room for god knows how long. My mama warned me not to see him again. I should have listened to her. I should have stayed home today. But now it is too late to go back. I have been enfettered by the chains of his love for two months now, and I am well past the point of return. Besides, he’s hidden my phone, and I cannot call Mama anyways, even if I wanted to. What would I even say to her? I bury myself deep into the mess of dirty blankets. I pray he never sees me like this- so weak, so vulnerable. He confiscated my clothes. I’m shivering. I don’t know if it’s from the cold or from fear. I can’t hear anything over my tremorous wheezes.
Footsteps. I can hear his footsteps approaching. No, no, no, no, no, no; he’s coming. I press my hands over my mouth to hold in my sobs. Oh god he’s really coming. I pretend to be fast asleep. He shuts and locks the door behind him- like he always does. He growls my name, “Malaya.” I stay silent, praying he will walk away this time. Forget about me. Lose interest.
Suddenly I feel my arm wrench into the wrong direction. Oh no, he knows I’m awake. I yelp from the pain and try to scramble from his grasp onto my feet, but he’s too quick. He grabs my hair in a tight fist and jerks my head up so I’m facing him without even the slightest hesitation. He’s convinced he owns me and he might be right. “Look at me when I’m speaking to you,” he spits. We’re about eye level but I maintain focus on his chest in protest where he can’t see the tears streaming from my eyes. I won’t let him win. Not this time. I clench my teeth in retaliation. His fingers dig deeper into my jaw, “I said look at me, you dumb whore.” I wince at his demand, which only tightens his hold on me.
I push back on him with all my might. Maybe I can make a run for the door if I’m quick enough. Just three words: “Let me go, let me go, let me go” over and over and over again thrash against the inner lining of my skull. But he remains unyielding. I shouldn’t have done that.
Now it’s my fault that I’m in a chokehold. I scratch at his elbow and forearm frantically. I’m running out of air, and my attempts at liberation are getting weaker and weaker as my vision starts to fade.
He relinquishes his grip just in time, and I fall right onto the edge of the wooden bed frame in anguish.
I lay still while he turns on the television, impetuously trying to catch my breath. He gets off on loud music to the point where it is deafening. He’s going to blast Deftones so no one in his apartment building can hear me, particularly his baby sister who is my age in the room next door. But I’m pretty sure his younger sister can hear me from the next room. I think she’s scared of him, too. I think that’s why I never see her come out, not even to eat.
He tosses the remote on the desk and walks towards me dauntingly. His bed is like a cage: pushed against a wall with high bed frames on each end, so that there is only one way to enter and exit. My heels dig into the rotting mattress as I try to push myself as far back into the dark corner as I can, but my back hits the wall within seconds. My breathing picks up again, and I can no longer maintain clear vision. “You know what I want. Let me have it. I’m sick of these games. Stop pretending like you don’t want it,” he leers.
“No.” My whisper, barely audible, somehow makes its way out of my windpipe.
“What did you just say to me?” Uh oh. It isn’t a good sign when he sounds this calm.
I haven’t eaten in days. His hands fit right around my waist as he drags me towards him. I squirm and try to wrangle out of his reach, but his hand meets my cheek before I can get very far. My face stings. The salt from my eyes doesn’t help. “What did I say, huh?”
He strikes me. Again. Again. Again. Again. My ability to endure his love plunges further. I’m convinced that the man I knew is dead. Each stroke of his hand reaches a whole new level of pain. I’m trying to get away. I’m trying. He raises his hand one last time. I flinch, preparing myself for the blow that will break me. Then, nothing. He chuckles. He thinks it’s funny. He’s satisfied.
He discards me to the side. “One second I’ll be right back.” He gets up and reaches into his main desk drawer. He pulls something out but I can’t make out what it is. Is he finally done with me?
He’s walking back towards me. Why is he coming back? Panic floods my senses all over again.
No. They’re handcuffs. Before I know it he’s gripping one wrist. He’s already gotten one hand cuffed. He flips me onto my stomach. I’m kicking, screaming, flailing my entire body like a fish out of water. I have never fought so hard. He hits me again, but I still refuse to cooperate. The pain that has been consuming me for the past two hours numbs, succumbing to the rush of pure terror. “Please stop, please, please, you’re hurting me.” I’m pleading like never before. He flips me back onto my back, but I’m still pinned. Is this mercy?
“Are you scared?” his eyes look amused and curious. He gets off on my fear, my anxiety, my pain, my despair.
“Mhm! Mhm! Mhm!” I can’t even form words, let alone move my mouth beyond a wobbly quiver. My whole body is trembling. I can’t feel my hands. I can’t feel my legs.
“Do you want me to take them off of you?”
I nod desperately over and over again, fixating on his hands working to take them off.
They’re finally off.
I break down again.
He holds me, “Shhh shhh; it’s okay.” I fall asleep like that. There is nothing left in me to give.
At least I won’t be conscious for what happens next.

2023.06.08 22:14 newbiebaby2022 I'm just tired
I'm exhausted im so tired physically and mentallyno amount of sleep helps. When i plan a "self care mental health day" where i plan to do things like maybe go on a hike or shopping or movies or stay in and watch movies and face mask and bubble bath or books. I literally can't get out of bed. I'm tired. Im tired of interacting with people. Im tired of reaching out to people and honestly i dont want to unload of anyone because in all honesty i know what theyre going to sayim here if you need me. Well did you talk to your therapist. Did you try this. Did you try exercisesdid you change this did you did you did you. I have dealt with depression since i was a teen. Im 34 now. Ive done alot of work with therapist and psychiatristto know my depression. I just dont want to anymore. I want a sniper to just take me out. I wanna take something to just end it without the possibilityof waking up paralyzed or fail at yet another attempt. I am so tired..
Edit: I am not actively suicidal I do not have a plan or intent or the means to go through any plan I may come up with in the immediate future. I am safe

2023.06.08 22:10 quzyp FINALLY good first layer / adhesion with PETG and severely warped bed
Ender 5 Pro. Just wanted to share this. It was incredibly easy (not).
- tried and failed manual leveling
- bought feeler gauge to no avail
- put aluminum foil pieces under the PEI sheet to make the bed level, worked somewhat but still not good
- printed support struts, I feel like they actually helped a bit
- found klipper!
- didn't want to buy a raspberry so I installed klipper + octoprint on my laptop which posed its own challenges, since they are both focused on raspberries
- flashed firmware like 15 times until I realized the board needs a specific baud rate set in klipper.cfg AND within the firmware
- manually downgraded several packages since the cross-compiler has bugs in its current version
- painstakingly searched for Cura settings which interfere with klipper (general answer: maybe, maybe not)
- calibrated e-steps
- calibrated resonance compensation
- calibrated pressure advance
- calibrated bed mesh manually (25 points)
- downloaded a Cura plugin for z-offset since petg apparently doesn't like being squished like pla
And now I just hope that the bed doesn't keep warping lol
