2023.03.16 12:42 deepvoicednerd [Motorsport] “Debris! Debris! Debris! We don’t know where it is!” or how to bring your teammates race win into disrepute. The 2019 Bathurst 1000 controversy
I’ve done a trio of stories on this subreddit previously about the Bathurst 1000, Australia’s biggest motor race. Those stories were from the ‘80’s and ‘90’s so you’d be forgiven for thinking that drama and controversy at the Bathurst 1000 is consigned to the past. Not so. As you can probably tell by the title, this drama was only a couple of years ago. And oh boy was it juicy! Especially when you consider one of the biggest names in world motorsport was involved.
To set the scene, 2019 is a brave new world for the Australian Touring Car Championship, better known as the Supercars Championship. For the first time since 1992, there’s a two-door car on the grid. With Ford Australia closing its doors, the beloved Aussie Ford Falcon is no more. In its place is the iconic Mustang.
There’s 6 of them (2 are from DJR Team Penske and the other 4 are run by Tickford Racing) up against 14 Holden Commodore’s (in reality, rebadged Opel Insignia’s-Holden was on borrowed time-only importing and rebadging GM cars and no longer building them) and 4 Nissan Altima’s.
Reaction to the Mustang was good…until pictures of it were released in late 2018. It looked weird.
The problem was the Supercars control chassis. Underneath the body panels all Supercars have the same chassis. The idea is any manufacturer could simply develop their own V8 engine and clip some of their body panels to the chassis and you’re good to go. (Obviously there’s more to it than that but for simplicity’s sake…) Trouble was the chassis itself was designed for 4-door touring casedan-shaped cars like the Holden and Nissan. The Mustang is a 2-door coupe. Hmm… The result was a Mustang that looked very disproportionate. Even some of the diehard Ford fans were heard to say, “My Eyes!”
But after Round 1, the proportions of the Mustang weren’t the biggest talking point. Its speed certainly was. Reigning champion Scott McLaughlin dominated for DJR Team Penske. In fact, after 3 rounds and 8 races, McLaughlin had won 6 of them and comfortably lead the championship. It might have been an ugly Mustang, but it was a fast Mustang. And an ugly car that wins a lot of races becomes a pretty car very quickly.
It was at this point that Supercars decided the Mustang was a bit too quick and took a little bit of its aerodynamic downforce away. DJR Team Penske and Tickford were none too pleased accusing the Holden and Nissan teams of not maximising their own equipment. The Ford heavies from America even weighed in saying that while they accepted Supercars’ decision, any further actions to knobble the Mustang would be met with resistance. Ultimately the parity adjustment did little. The Mustang and McLaughlin in particular, just kept winning.
By Round 11 in New Zealand, Supercars decided to act again. Instead of adjusting the Mustang and incurring Fords wrath, they gave a little aerodynamic concession to the Holdens and Nissans. The Nissans were a lost cause at this point. They were pulling out at the end of the year, so the development taps had already been turned off but for Holden teams, this was a godsend. The N.Z. races had both the Triple Eight Holdens and DJR Team Penske Fords clocking near identical lap times. Parity had finally been achieved. Just in time too. Because the next round of the championship was the Bathurst 1000…
So, as the championship arrived at Bathurst for round 12, McLaughlin had one hand on the trophy already. In the 24 races leading up to Bathurst he had won 17 of them. Teammate Fabian Coulthard had won 2 and Tickford’s Chaz Mostert 1 while Holden only had 4 wins all courtesy of the Triple Eight Race Engineering team’s Shane van Gisbergen (3 wins) and Jamie Whincup (1 win).
The contenders were:
DJR Team Penske. The team had dominated the year with its Ford Mustangs with McLaughlin (joined by Frenchman Alex Premat for the 1000) in car #17 and Coulthard (joined by Tony D’Alberto) in car #12. The team itself has a long history as Dick Johnson Racing. They had recently got out of financial dire straights and had been tracking along okay and then motorsport powerhouse Penske brought a controlling stake in the team, taking them from midfield also-rans to a championship/race-winning juggernaut.
Triple Eight Race Engineering. Holden’s factory team were confident leading into the race. Their strength was in their driver lineup. Shane van Gisbergen in car #97 was paired with Garth Tander who had only recently been forced out of his full-time drive by an idiotic sponsor and Jamie Whincup in car #888 was reunited with Supercars legend Craig Lowndes who only recently retired from full-time racing.
Tickford Racing. A Ford factory team since 2003. The 4 car Ford team had two reasonable contenders: Cam Waters in car #6 (co-driver Michael Caruso) and Chaz Mostert in car #55 (co-driver James Moffat).
Joining the 24-car field are two wildcard entries. One is the Kostecki Brothers Racing squad. The Kostecki’s are…how can I describe them? You know that Paul Newman movie
Slap Shot? Well, the Kostecki’s are kind of like the Hanson brothers in that movie. Talented but brash, not afraid of a fight, prone to chaos and brilliantly entertaining to watch. There’s three of them: Kurt and Jake are brothers and Brodie is their cousin. Brodie is quite a good driver. Kurt has his moments and Jake is…yeah. A crashaholic if I’m honest. (Not saying I’d be any better but…) With only two drivers per car, Kurt is given the flick and sits on the bench while Brodie and Jake will drive.
The other wildcard is the Walkinshaw Andretti United team running with Alexander Rossi and James Hinchcliffe. WAU run two cars normally, but this entry is a third for Bathurst only. Both Rossi and Hinchcliffe arrived with credentials in Indycar and F1 but Australian Supercars are a whole different kettle of fish compared with those cars. Picture an F1 or an Indycar in your mind. They are a bespoke racing machine right? Lightweight, huge aerodynamic wings, super sticky tyres, a couple of little driving aids and a paddle-shift gearbox. The perfect race car.
Now compare that to an Australian Supercar. An absolute brick of a car that weighs well over a ton and a half, has minimal aerodynamics, is overpowered and under-tyred, no traction control, a H-pattern gearbox, heavy clutch and from Rossi & Hinch’s perspective they’re sitting on the wrong side of the car. Oh and then there’s the small issue of Mount Panorama. Neither of them had been there before and it’s not the easiest track to learn. And they have to learn the car at the same time. Good luck fellas!
Both wildcards will play a role here, I promise.
Practice, qualifying and the top 10 shootout take place. Scott McLaughlin scorches to pole position with the fastest lap a Supercar has ever done around Mount Panorama. The two Tickford Fords of Mostert and Waters are second and third on the grid just ahead of the pair of Triple Eight Holdens of Whincup (4th) and van Gisbergen (5th). Fabian Coulthard in the second DJRTP Mustang is buried in 16th. The wildcards are having a bruising run so far with crashes and spins all throughout the practice and qualifying sessions. The Kostecki’s line up 24th while Rossi & Hinchcliffe are 25th.
Sunday race day dawns bright and sunny. Late in the morning, the grid forms up and the warm-up lap commences. The Kostecki’s create the first drama before the warm-up lap finishes when Brodie Kostecki’s helmet fan starts blowing dry ice from the drivers cool-box into his face, giving him carbon monoxide poisoning. He stops on track and quickly bails out of the car.
The start gets delayed while the Kostecki car gets towed back to the pits. Brodie is fine, but Jake is sent out to start from the pitlane to give him time to recover.
20 minutes later, they’re off! From pole position, McLaughlin bolts clear with the 2 Tickford Mustangs and Triple Eight Holdens in pursuit. The laps start ticking by. Unlike Bathurst 1000’s of the modern era, full course cautions don’t seem to be occurring. It’s a proper pure motor race. Pit strategies cycle through. By half-distance the 6 main contenders are the first six cars. McLaughlin (DJRTP Ford) leads Whincup (T8 Holden), Waters, Mostert (both Tickford Fords), van Gisbergen (T8 Holden) and Coulthard (DJRTP Ford).
Finally on lap 101 of 161, the safety car comes out for a heavy crash at the top of The Mountain. Everyone pits. The co-drivers (Premat, Lowndes, Caruso, Moffat, Tander and D’Alberto) vacate their seats to the main drivers. It’s now a 60-lap sprint with all the guns in the cars to the finish. The heavily spread-out field gets bunched up nicely and the race goes green again on lap 105. McLaughlin edges clear of Whincup who in turn pulls a handful of seconds over the pair of Tickford Mustangs, teammate van Gisbergen and Coulthard.
And then on lap 113, Kostecki happens. Having resisted the urge to crash for over 100 laps, Jake Kosteki spectacularly bins it at the top of The Mountain. The safety car comes out again. This triggers more pit stops for everyone. Unfortunately for some with the field now much closer than it was earlier in the race, the second car for each team has to queue while the lead car takes service. Notably, Coulthard and van Gisbergen have to wait while McLaughlin and Whincup fuel up. Crucially for the race, Whincup gets out ahead of McLaughlin and now leads. On lap 117, the green flag comes out and they’re back underway.
McLaughlin starts harrying Whincup but the Holden stands firm in front. Six laps later, the golden rule of ‘don’t make contact with your teammate’ gets broken when Chaz Mostert clips Cam Waters forcing both Tickford Mustangs off the track and out of 3rd and 4th. The safety car makes another appearance and bunches the field back up again. Only one car pits this time: van Gisbergen. He’s now on a different strategy. Like everyone else, he’ll have to stop again, but because he can go deeper into the race he won’t have to stop for as long. It could work out very nicely for him…
The race restarts on lap 127…and promptly goes yellow again after another crash on that very lap. No one pits this time. They need to get to lap 137. That’s the earliest lap that they can fuel up and get to the finish. All cars can just about get to that lap except for van Gisbergen who could in theory get to lap 146 and remember, he only needs a short stop and can leapfrog everyone.
The race restarts again with Whincup leading the two DJR Team Penske Mustangs. McLaughlin starts harrying Whincup once again while Coulthard sits a second back in third. Further back, van Gisbergen starts picking his way through the field. His strong strategic position is looking better and better. The last thing he needs is another safety car to screw it all up…
Oh boy…
And then on lap 134, the other wildcard plays its role and kicks off the biggest drama of the race. After a quiet albeit clean race so far, Alexander Rossi gently beaches the WAU car into the gravel trap at the final corner. The safety car gets called.
Lap 134. Ideally you need to get to lap 137. But it’s better to pit under safety car when you don’t lose as much time. What do you do? The cars are charging over the top of The Mountain at this point. Pit lane is half a lap away. The team radios are alive. Race engineers for the whole field are saying the same thing: “Safety car! Safety car! Car off at the final corner. Pit this lap! Pit this lap!”
But one engineer is saying something different: Fabian Coulthard’s. Facing the need to double stack once again behind teammate McLaughlin, Coulthard’s engineer gives him the radio message of:
“Slow down. Slow down. Debris! Debris! Debris! We don’t know where it is!” (don’t you? Really? It’s on the TV monitor right in front of you?!) Coulthard then slows down. Slows right down. And because it’s a full-course yellow/safety car, no overtaking is permitted. So while Whincup and McLaughlin charge for the pits, Coulthard crawls back to the pits at a comically slow speed with a very angry pack of cars stuck behind him. Amongst the pack is Shane van Gisbergen who has just seen his race-winning strategy go down the drain. “Fabian is going stupidly slow!” he says over the radio. Here’s how it happened:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQqz9eTBAEQ Pitlane blows up. Team managers and race engineers are furious. All the while, Coulthard and his race engineer engage in what sounds like a suspiciously rehearsed script over the team radio. Coulthard is so slow, that by the time he finally does reach pitlane, both Whincup and McLaughlin have taken tyres, a full fuel load and departed.
And then pitlane reporter (and four-time Bathurst winner) Greg Murphy interviews DJR Team Penske Team Manager Ryan Story, who gives a rather nervous interview. It was just awkward and embarrassing. See for yourself:
https://www.supercars.com/videos/championship/story-reacts-to-coulthard-safety-car-slowdown/?cat=2019&paged=23 Remember this team is run by Penske, one of the biggest names in world motorsport. Not a good look. As the race goes green once again, Coulthard duly receives a pit lane penalty for driving in an unsporting manner.
But with that controversy aside, there’s a problem. Everyone took fuel at the start of lap 135. A full fuel tank around Mount Panorama will give you about 23 laps. 161 laps and you’ve fuelled up on 135. Do the maths…
So as a driverace engineer, you’ve got a real headache. Do you try and drive conservatively and therefore slowly where you might just, just, just squeak home? Or do you go “f**k it, we’re going to have to stop again, cane it!”
In the lead, Whincup goes with the latter option and starts driving the wheels off his car. In second, McLaughlin does the opposite and goes into maximum fuel saving mode. For Whincup the mission is simple: Get a 35 second gap on the fuel-saving McLaughlin. That will give him time to pit and top off his fuel tank and get back out still in the lead.
As the laps tick by, Whincup might just make this work. By lap 151, just 10 laps from home, he’s out to 27 seconds. And then…Safety Car. His plan’s been snookered. He has no real choice but to pit under Safety Car. He ends up dropping to 4th.
With the Safety Car out, McLaughlin can crucially save a bit more fuel too. Behind him is van Gisbergen in the same boat.
The race restarts and with 4 laps to go van Gisbergen is right there behind McLaughlin. Could he get him? Well…no. Another crash with 3 laps to go brings out the safety car one last time all but guaranteeing that McLaughlin can make it home. It pulls back into the pits in time for the final lap. Van Gisbergen throws everything at the #17 Mustang, but McLaughlin holds on to take his and co-driver Alex Premat’s first Bathurst 1000 win. And they genuinely deserve it. Sure, you could argue they had the best car, but they still had to drive it and drive it well to win.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the talking point post-race. Instead, it was the actions of McLaughlin’s teammate Fabian Coulthard. Coulthard, his race engineer Mark Fenning and the DJR Team Penske team were crucified by other drivers, team owners and race fans. Runner-up van Gisbergen described Coulthard as a “sacrificial lamb” with others demanded harsher penalties. There were even some calls that McLaughlin should be stripped of victory due to Coulthard’s actions directly benefiting him, but as third place finisher James Courtney put it, “How can you penalise McLaughlin when he himself did nothing wrong?”
I felt genuinely bad for McLaughlin post-race. He was in the form of his career and had just won the biggest race of his life but instead of being able bask in that glory, he was overshadowed by his team’s actions. He did lash out in defense of his teammate after it was revealed that Coulthard had received death threats from angry fans (whoever you support, that’s just not on. Not cool).
A week after the race DJR Team Penske were summoned before the Supercars race stewards. The good news from the hearing: McLaughlin kept his win. The bad news? DJR Team Penske were found guilty of breaching team order rules. For that they were fined a whopping $250 000 with $100 000 suspended until the end of 2021. Coulthard was also demoted from his sixth-place finish to the last running position of 21st. On top of this, they were also docked 300 teams’ championship points. Ultimately the stewards found that Coulthard’s slowing down wasn’t to benefit McLaughlin but himself. By slowing down Coulthard didn’t have to queue behind McLaughlin in pit lane and therefore didn’t lose positions.
Things got even worse for DJR Team Penske when a few weeks later, it was found that McLaughlin’s engine used in qualifying had breeched technical regulations albeit minorly. The result of this was a $30 000 fine and McLaughlin’s pole time stripped. He kept his win as a different engine was used in the race.
At the end of 2019, McLaughlin and DJR Team Penske should have been celebrating a dominant year. Drivers and Teams Championships and a Bathurst 1000 win, what an achievement! But the “Debris! Debris! Debris!” incident was fresh in a lot of minds. It wasn’t a good look for Penske.
A year later at the end of the 2020 season Penske sold their stake in DJR back to the team and left Supercars-and took Scott McLaughlin with them. Since then McLaughlin has since done pretty well for himself.
Why did they leave? Was it frustration with the rules and penalties? Was it shame? Who knows? From their 6-year period in Supercars, Penske has a pretty good record: 56 race wins, 3 drivers championships, 3 teams championships and the crowning glory: a Bathurst 1000 victory.
Whilst it looks good on paper though, there will always be a question mark over that win and that moment when the team radio crackled with “Debris! Debris! Debris!”

2023.03.08 00:33 ReSirum Ai generated version of Brad Keselowski's first Cup win
Brad Keselowski won his first NASCAR Cup Series race on March 11, 2018, climbing out of his victorious Dodge with a victory at Phoenix International Raceway. After 11 seasons and the long road to finally achieving his first checkered flag, he proved to the rest of the world that his dedication and determination had paid off.
That victory was the culmination of a long personal journey for Keselowski, beginning with his first steps into the NASCAR world as a highly rated talent and earning the reputation of a driver who would never give up. His first foray into the NASCAR Xfinity Series was an overwhelming success, with two championships and 30 race wins in a span of just three seasons. He also had a successful Cup career with Roger Penske, driving their cup car to the 2015 championship.
Yet, despite all of his success, Brad had yet to achieve the ultimate goal of winning a NASCAR Cup series race. Over the next few years, Brad came excruciatingly close to winning his elusive first victory, only to be denied a win each time. By 2018, it seemed that victory would never come, but Brad continued to press on, believing he would finally get his first victory in the not-too-distant future.
At the first Cup race of the 2018 season, Phoenix International Raceway, it was finally time for Brad to prove his hard work and dedication were worth it. The race was a close one, with Brad pitting late and using gas conservation to stay ahead of the competition. In the end, Brad Keselowski crossed the finish line first and crossed the line off his long list of accomplishments.
This was a career-defining moment for Brad. His Cup series victory was a testament to his determination and resilience. It proved that even after years of hard work and close calls, dreams can still come true if you never give up. Keselowski has gone on to prove this fact time and time again, having won another 7 races in the Cup Series since that momentous day in 2018. It is a reminder to any aspiring racer that with dedication and hard work, anything is possible.

2023.02.12 18:50 DonAaron2 Seasons of a Gap Year: Part 4 — The Promotion
I was working 80/90+ hours a week, 12-16 hour days, nearly everyday. It was a brutal grind and the only thing I looked forward to in the day was getting stoned at night and passing out.
Around early December I managed to get promoted to driver at the moving company. I'm a fairly am ambitious person and I never shy away from a challenge. I was making 12/hr with tips but I knew that I should be making way more. I took note of all the other movers, and drivers, and realized I was far better than most of them at the job and could take more responsibility. My manager Jon — Quan was the other — and I were on good terms and had a good work relationship. He had a lot of respect for my work ethic and we would often hang around after jobs in his office and shoot the shit.
Knowing that it was the Pandemic and employees were scarce — no one wanted to work, nor even fathomed working a labor job when they could collect stimulus and sit on their ass — I figured I had a good shot at getting promoted to driver. The youngest driver at the time was 21, and he was a prick. He envied the fact that I attended a top university and was far better than him at his job; he'd always try and give me shit for no reason, and a couple times I turned around and told him to go fuck himself — he never messed with me after that. Around December 10th, after a job, I walked into Jon's office.
"Hey Jon"
"Whats up man"
"You guys looking for some drivers?"
"Fuck ya we need drivers"
"I'm up for it"
He sat there for a second in contemplation.
"How long you been driving for?"
"4 years"
I was 19 and technically was only licensed for 3 years, but I started driving at 15 without my parents, and without a permit, so I figured I was right in that respect to say 4 years.
"I'll text you later"
"Alright"
It wasn't very probable but I always found a way to get what I wanted. I knew the guys didn't want to lose me, and realized that they knew damn well I'd be one of the best drivers.
I got a text a few hours later from Jon: "Come in tomorrow at 9AM, Quan is gonna show you how to drive the truck."
"Sounds good" I wrote.
No shit! I couldn't believe it. Drivers made $15/hr and got far more hours than movers. I wasn't so much proud of the pay as I was for getting the actual job. I showed up the next morning with Quan and he gave me that keys to truck 7. Now, there were a couple different types of trucks we used. Most of the trucks were 26-foot box trucks, that were typical for most jobs. There was one truck that was much smaller for small interstate moves and such. We had a couple Penskes and other rentals as well when demand was high.
I got in the drivers seat with Quan in the passengers. He ran me through the basics: how that start the truck, switch gears, what to look out for, how to lower the ramp (if it had one), some driving techniques, etc. I was nervous as hell driving the truck: the largest vehicle I had every operated was my 2007 Jeep Liberty. This box truck required a completely different type of driving and awareness. You had to always be aware of what was above you, to the side, and turns had to be made precisely and vigorously in tight corners. We did a few test drives around the parking lot and then went back to Jon's office.
"How as it?" Asked Jon.
"Great"
"Alright, go to Secretary of State in XXX. We scheduled an appointment for you; take the test, pass, and get your chauffeurs license. Then head over the the doctors office to get a physical. You'll be all set after that.
"Alright thanks"
I drove over to the Secretary of State and took the chauffeurs license exam. I was given 3 tries — the first attempt I failed. I had no idea what the hell any of the answers were. I was sitting in the waiting room waiting for my next attempt when one of the clerks gestured at me.
"Hey, see that booklet to your left? Read that real quick; it was all the answers to the test."
"Well shit, thanks."
I grabbed the booklet and quickly memorized 10-15 questions and answers. I took the exam promptly afterward, passed, and got my chauffeurs license. Then I went over to the doctors to get a physical.
"Do you have any medical conditions?
"No"
"Any past history of surgeries?"
"Ya I broke my leg a few years back and had to get a metal plate and pins inserted."
"Do you do any drugs?"
"Nope"
She gave me a vision test and took my blood pressure. Then, a nurse came in and stood in the corner of the room, with her arms at her waist and looked at me, then looked down. The physician paced a few steps back and said to me "Ok, now take your pants and underwear off."
"What the fuck?" I thought to myself. Although I was an athlete me whole life, I never actually had a physical, mainly because majority of my athletic career was not school related. Then I remembered my buddy in 5th grade telling me that he had to strip down and cough while a doctor grabbed his balls. "Oh" I thought. Well, alright.
"Sure thing" I said.
I took my pants and underwear off and stood there holding my shirt off. The physician looked at it and asked me a few questions. The nurse in the corner tried to keep her gaze down, but I caught her eyes a few times: "What you think? It's nice right" I communicated with my eyes.
"Ok sir you are all set."
I got my physical approved and went back to shop.
"You're all set, see you tomorrow morning"
I got the job and was now a driver at the company, about one month after joining as a laborer. I was the youngest driver in branch history and felt quite proud. I had worked my ass off and proved my worth: I got what I deserved. I told my parents about my promotion; they didn't comment much, needless to say they never really threw me any pride overall. It didn't matter much to me, but I always craved a genuine pat on the back.
I distinctly remember a job I had a couple days before Christmas. Me and a coworker at the moving company — we were good friends at the time — were on a charity job, where we would pick up used furniture at a donation warehouse and drop it off to a list of people who were in need. Before departing on the job, we were given a list of names with addresses, along with the corresponding furniture to deliver to them. Stahl was probably the best driver at the shop. He was around 23/24, 6 ft, probably around 220/230 pounds, and an absolute monster. He was the only guy at the shop that was stronger than me, and to this day he was probably one of the strongest guys I have every met. His work ethic, kindness, and leadership garnered a lot of my respect. We got along great, and had some similar viewpoints on many things. Stahl was rather quiet too, and worked in a similar fashion to me. When I first joined he was very helpful in teaching me the job and we seemed to strike a connection pretty fast. He spoke subtly and quietly, and was considered a "gentle giant" to some, however, if he didn't like you, he let you know. He could be the nicest or the meanest guy, but I seemed to be on Stahl's good side, so all was good. Stahl was the main guy who trained me as a driver, and we did many jobs together in December.
On this particular day, I think it was December 22nd or 23rd, it was snowing buckets outside, the roads were pretty empty, and the whole world seemed to stand still. As me and Stahl drove around picking up furniture and dropping it off, we would listen to Christmas music and tell stories in the truck. It was an incredibly serene day, and the job was easy as hell and came with no curveballs. After a few drop offs, I glanced at the next address and saw it was in my hometown. I had grown up in a small "village" (at the time) that was 20 mins outside of Ann Arbor. My family an I lived there until 2009, when our house got foreclosed on and we lost everything. That little town — even today — means so much to me, in the same way that people have a dear affection for their childhood home, town, friend, or certain musics. We drove through the town and I remember looking around at all the buildings: 10 years gone and here I was, passing through these same exact streets, except this time I was the one doing the driving, and I was the guy in the truck who would capture my eye as a young boy staring out the car window. Fuckin hell, I thought. Were did it all go? The concept of time perplexed me and I had a momentary lapse of existential angst. The job wrapped up and I worked at the gas station until nighttime, cashing out the junkies, the working class, the gamblers, the cokeheads, the conspiracy theorists. Another day for Don in the books, I thought. All of these new experiences and interactions gave me material to reflect on during my solitude. My consciousness was growing day by day as I absorbed the life of a working American, the struggles of men and women, and the gross reality of life itself. I was head deep in the manure pile and relished in every moment.
"I'm not sure what I'm doing, but I think i'm doing something right" I thought to myself as I lay in bed late at night.

2023.02.09 04:53 LabonteFan THE 2016 DEATH SERIES PREVIEW
As the 2023 season is starting up in real-life, it's time to rewind the clock yet again in this series. 2016 will be the 3rd past season to be simulated in this series, following the way 2018 and then 2017 were done as well. After 2016, it'll be time for 2023. Who knows when that'll be. It could be this summer or it could be in over a year, just depends on how I'm feeling with doing races in this.
THE DRIVERS There are 40 drivers that make up the class of 2016, let's meet them
#1- Jamie McMurray - McDonald's - Chip Ganassi Racing Jamie McMurray has won a few times in this but hasn't ever been anything special. Could he change that in a season that in reality he didn't even lead a lap?
#2- Brad Keselowski - Miller Lite - Team Penske Brad Keselowski has 14 career wins in this series, 2 behind Denny Hamlin for the all-time most. Could he try and pass Hamlin this year?
#3- Austin Dillon - DOW - Richard Childress Racing The greatest driver of the 3, and the guy who will win the 2019 title, is back in the number he made iconic
#4- Kevin Harvick - Jimmy John's - Stewart-Haas Racing Harvick will finish top 10 in points or outside the top 30. No option in between those.
#5- Kasey Kahne - Farmers Insurance - Hendrick Motorsports The KKK (Kasey Kenneth Kahne) will go for glory and be part of the most supreme race (winners).
#6- Trevor Bayne - Advocare - Roush-Fenway Racing Trevor Bayne hasn't won in his season and a half he's ran. He's the only driver of the #6 to not win in it yet.
#7- Regan Smith - Nikko/Toy State - Tommy Baldwin Racing Regan Smith makes his first appearance in this series. I mean that's cool.
#10- Danica Patrick - Nature's Bakery - Stewart-Haas Racing Danica Patrick will be back at it with her fanbase of little girls and also 60-year old men
#11- Denny Hamlin - FedEx Express - Joe Gibbs Racing With 16 wins, Denny Hamlin has won more than any driver in history. In the last season simmed, 2022, he had an absolutely disasterous season. He didn't even have a top 5 and only a handful of Top 10's. Hard to get much worse than that, at least.
#13- Casey Mears - Geico - Germain Racing Another driver making their first appearance in this series. He's good friends with Jimmie Johnson, who is probably much less successful than him.
#14- Tony Stewart - Bass Pro Shops - Stewart-Haas Racing Tony Stewart will miss the start of his final season due to an injury. Luckily, this series is perfectly safe for him. This is also his first appearance in this series. Brian Vickers and Ty Dillon will fill-in for Stewart to start the season, following their real-life schedules.
#15- Clint Bowyer - 5-Hour Energy - HScott Motorsports In most of the seasons he's been in, Clint Bowyer has been strong. However, this year he's driving a trash can on wheels. Will this hold one of the greatest of all time back?
#16- Greg Biffle - Ford EcoBoost - Roush-Fenway Racing Greg Biffle casually returned in 2022 to finish be top 10 in points in a car that was worse than a trash can on wheels. More like a trash can without wheels, but also being towed in the opposite direction by a tow truck. Logic would suggest that he should be dominant in a Roush car, even if it isn't that great, based on what he could do after over 5 years out of a car.
#17- Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. - Fastenal - Roush-Fenway Racing Ricky Stenhouse Jr wins the Championship in 2017, so this season we get to see the season he was coming off of when he won said title. He'll probably either be a contender in outside the top 30.
#18- Kyle Busch - M&M's 75th Anniversary - Joe Gibbs Racing Kyle Busch is back in the M&M's 18, something I'm sure we will see for many more years to come!
#19- Carl Edwards - Arris - Joe Gibbs Racing Carl Edwards is back in the 19, I'm sure he has many more years of racing ahead!
Ignoring the joke I made for the 2nd time in a row, this is Carl's first appearance in this series.
#20- Matt Kenseth - Dollar General - Joe Gibbs Racing Matt Kenseth had a strong season in 2017 but ended up choking a Championship 4 spot, leading to Joe Gibbs locking him in a dungeon after 2017. Only to then be punished by having to drive 15 races for Roush. And because Kenseth is built different, he still won. In 2017, 2018, and 2020, Kenseth won at least 1 race.
#21- Ryan Blaney - Food Motorcraft - Wood Brothers Racing The 2022 Champion (probably the only Champion in the series to never say a racial slur, too) is in maybe his rookie season. Depends on if he runs 2015 or not. Anyway, Blaney has won 1-2 races every year outside of 2019 (winless) and 2022 (5 wins). In 2017, in typical Ryan Blaney fashion, he won the playoff opener right after missing the playoffs. Will that win end up being his 1st career win?
#22- Joey Logano - Shell-Pennzoil - Team Penske Until 2022 Joey Logano had started every race in this series. In both 2017 and 2018 he finished 5th in points. Can he open his squinty douchy eyes wide enough to see a path forward to the Championship 4 this time?
#23- David Ragan - Dr. Pepper - BK Racing David Ragan has, somehow, won in every full season he's ran. But now he's at hell in terms of NASCAR teams. Can Ragan bring glory to hell and continue his streak of winning?
#24- Chase Elliott - NAPA Auto Parts - Hendrick Motorsports Chase Elliott is the only driver to win in every single season of this series, with at least 1 win from 2017-2022. Since 2016 is his rookie year, it's the end of the road in terms of his chances of continuing this. 2023 will be next so he could in theory win in the first 8 seasons of this series if he pulls off a win in both 2016 and 2023, which would be quite a feat.
#27- Paul Menard - Menard's - Richard Childress Racing GET HARD
#30- Josh Wise - Unsponsored - The Motorsports Group Josh Wise's final season. With the power of baldness he will carry The Motorsports Group to greatness.
#31- Ryan Newman - Caterpillar - Richard Childress Racing Outside of 2020, Ryan Newman has won in all of his seasons. He also finished well in points in 2017 and 2019, and even made the Championship 4 in 2021. Can the big stupid idiot ogre win a Championship in 2016?
#32- Jeffrey Earnhardt - Can-Am - Go FAS Racing Jeffrey Earnhardt is another rookie driver. Somehow he won in both 2017 and 2018. He denied his uncle one last win in 2017 in one of the cruelest moments in NASCAR history. Will Jeffrey continue to be a soulless monster? If so, what will he do?
#34- Chris Buescher - Love's - Front Row Motorsports Christopher Buescher (please laugh) could break the record for the longest winless streak if he wins early enough this season, as his next win wasn't until 2021. The record is 153 races, by the way. Based on real-life he'll probably get annoyingly close to breaking the record and not actually breaking it.
#38- Landon Cassill - Snap Fitness - Front Row Motorsports Landon Cassill has got 2, 3, and 3 top 5's in his 3 seasons. A pretty useless and random observation, but this would suggest he's safe to get exactly 2 or 3 top 5's. This series is famously a good one to analyze stats on.
#41- Kurt Busch - Haas / Monster Energy - Stewart-Haas Racing Weirdly, Kurt Busch has only 2 top 20 finishes in points. One was 2nd and the other was 19th. So maybe he's due for another good season.
#42- Kyle Larson - Target - Chip Ganassi Racing Kyle Larson is still the only multi-time Champion in this series, and he'll be going for a 3rd this season. While he's won multiple drivers titles, they were for different car owners. So we've never had a team owner with multiple titles, and Kyle Larson could bring that home for Chip Ganassi (and get brutally beat by Chip in return).
#43- Aric Almirola - Smithfield - Richard Petty Motorsports 2017 and 2018 were both good seasons for Almirola before a huge drop off. In 2017 he even made the Championship 4. Can NASCAR's real-life GOAT carry over some of that dominance into the Death Series? Well, he has a strong teammate to go against, that being...
#44- Brian Scott - Albertsons - Richard Petty Motorsports ...Brian Scott. This is Brian's first and only season. If he wins the title it would be one of the greatest moments in Death Series history, and knowing how good Brian Scott is, it's almost a foregone conclusion he'll win the title.
#46- Michael Annett - Pilot Flying J - HScott Motorsports Normally I would joke about a mediocre driver having a great season, but I'm not going that far with Michael Annett.
#47- A.J. Allmendinger - Kroger - JTG Daughtery Racing AJ will has signed a contract through the 2020 season, one that will certainly last!
#48- Jimmie Johnson - Lowe's - Hendrick Motorsports Dear god. Why have you not won in the 48 yet. His only win is in the 62. Even in a series like this he couldn't win in 2018, 2019, or 2020. And somehow was even worse in 2017. So... 34th in points with 0 wins it is.
#55- Reed Sorenson - Unsponsored - Premium Motorsports Call him Weed Sorenson because everyone will be getting lit when he wins the title
#78- Martin Truex, Jr. - Furniture Row - Furniture Row Racing Up until 2022 Martin Truex Jr had won in every season. He used to be right at the front of the wins list, but now he's fallen to a tie for 4th with 10 career wins. Somehow he only won 1 race in 2017 and 2018 in the 78, so this could be his last season in the 78 he wins multiple races. Or he could just win once. Or just go winless. Who knows.
#83- Matt DiBenedetto - Cosmo Motors - BK Racing Matt DiBenedetto joins fellow teammate David Ragan in hell. DiBenedetto has won 2 times in this series. By sheer coincidence, that's also how many times his last name actually gets spoken out each year, rather than being shortened to "Matty D"
#88- Dale Earnhardt, Jr. - Nationwide - Hendrick Motorsports Dale Earnhardt Jr did not win in 2017, so if he wins this season, the last one in it will be his final win. I'm sure Dale will have a great season, and nothing will force him to miss 18 races that Alex Bowman and Jeff Gordon will split. Nah, it's gonna go great.
#95- Michael McDowell - Thrivent Financial - Leavine Family Racing Michael McDowell's claim to fame in this series is that he holds the record of the longest win streak ever, with 153 races between his wins at Destruction Arena in 2018 and Monaco in 2022. All of those wins came with Front Row Motorsports though, so he'll be trying to get his first win in the #95 joining Lightning McQueen as the only other "Mc" to win in that number.
#98- Cole Whitt - RTIC Coolers - Premium Motorsports Cole Whitt, or Cole Shitt if he performs badly, is in one of the worst cars in the field, driving a Toyota while his teammate Reed Sorenson drives a Chevy. Cole has 1 prior win, the 2018 Hickyard 400. He's already won the biggest race of all, so we'll have to see if he can win a title or a 2nd Hickyard 400 to move his legacy forward in any meaningful way.
DAYTONA ONE OFF ENTRIES While previously these were reserved for present seasons, 2016 will also have the Duels at Daytona along with a (smaller amount of) host of one-off entries for the race. Let's see who all will be trying to make the field there as well.
#26- Robert Richardson, Jr. - Stalk It - BK Racing Robert Richardson Jr will be running this race in an extra 3rd BK Racing car. Richardson is retiring from racing after this, a loss that will be noticed by tens and tens of fans around the globe.
#35- David Gilliland - Shaw's Southern Belle Frozen Foods - Front Row Motorsports Admittedly, I'm not 100% sure if this will be only a one-off or not. He might run the other superspeedways too. But regardless, Todd Gilliland's dad will be running in a time before the Gilliland family was back-stabbed by Bob Jenkins
#40- Reed Sorenson - CRC Brakleen - Hillman Racing Reed Sorenson will not be running the #55 at Daytona, instead he'll be running the #40 for Hillman Racing. Hillman is going to shut down after Daytona, so hopefully they go out on a high note. Probably not though.
#49- Matt DiBenedetto - NASCAR Heat Evolution - BK Racing Another number swap, as Matt DiBenedetto is moving to a 4th BK Racing car. Matt will be driving the #49, as a way to advertise NASCAR Heat Evolution being $10 off and being $49.99. Of course, NHE doesn't come out for another 7 months, which means unfortunately this series has lost any illusion of being realistic. I'm so sorry.
#55- Cody Ware - Carport Empire - Premium Motorsports Reed Sorenson is moving to the #40 because he had to make way for the greatest driver of our generation, Cody Ware, to drive the #55 at Daytona. Ware will be attempting his Cup series debut, and because of the fact he's so good, he'll give everyone a chance in 2017 and 2018 before making his grand return in 2019.
#59- Michael McDowell - Thrivent Financial - Leavine Family Racing Michael McDowell is moving from the #95 to the #59 for Daytona. Call him Mcchael MiDowell.
#73- Dylan Lupton - Bell Bros - BK Racing Dylan Lupton is driving a 5th BK Racing car. At this point, you might be wondering, why are there so many BK Racing cars? The answer is simply. Funny.
#83- Michael Waltrip - Maxwell House - BK Racing With Matt DiBenedetto moving to the #49, the #83 is open for Michael Waltrip, the probably more successful Waltrip brother, to drive the #83 for his 1 start of the year.
#93- Ryan Ellis - Science Logic - BK Racing But we're not done with BK Racing yet. A 6th BK Racing car will be driven by Ryan Ellis in his sexy Science Logic paint scheme. BK Racing will be trying to put all 6 of their Toyota's into the Daytona Dirt race to solidify themselves as NASCAR's star Toyota team.
#95- Ty Dillon - Cheerios - Leavine Family Racing With McDowell moved to the #59, the #95 will be driven by Ty Dillon. Ty has 3 wins in this series, 1 each from 2019 to 2021, but has been pretty mediocre outside of that. He'll get a handful of starts between this and driving the #14 in a few races, but he probably won't win any of them.
#99- Ryan Reed - Lilly Diabetes - Roush-Fenway Racing Ryan ReeeEEEEEEEEeeeeeed will be making his 1 career start. If he makes it anyway. He has diabetes.
SCHEDULE CHANGES These are the changes on the 2016 schedule when compared to the 2017 schedule. Basically in chronological order, these were things that got removed in 2017.
- Monza's oval race has been pushed back a few weeks to be a doubleheader with the Monza No Brakes Race
- Speaking of the Monza No Brake race, it's now on the modern Monza layout, rather than the old one
- Nurburgring has been removed. Nurburgring No Brakes takes the spot that the regular Nurburgring race once held.
- Meanwhile, the date held by the Nurburgring No Brakes race originally has been taken by a new track, Langhorne. Langhorne is a dirt circle. Not an oval, but a circle. To be clear, the track is a circle. It's layout is not in the shape of an oval, but rather a circle. It is circular.
- Spa No Brakes has been replaced with Slinger. Slinger is a 0.25 mile oval. Not a circle, but an oval.
- And finally, Martinsville High Drag has been replaced with Martinsville 0.01 Inverse Slipcurve. If you're unaware of what this means, it basically means the track is like ice for the AI, and they'll be spinning non-stop.
FULL 2016 SCHEDULE - Daytona Dirt
- Atlanta Super Low Drag
- Spa
- Widowmaker
- Bristol Negative Drag
- Martinsville No Brakes
- Homestead Negative Drag
- Sonoma No Brakes
- Watkins Glen Low Drag
- Charlotte 1/4 Mile
- Avus
- Talladega Squeeze
- Coliseum
- Monza Oval
- Monza (Modern) No Brakes
- Nurburgring No Brakes
- Destruction Arena
- The Hickyard
- Daytona Short Track
- New Hampshire Road Course Low Drag
- Talladega No Wall
- Daytona In A Can
- Watkins Glen No Brakes + Low Drag
- Bristol No Brakes + Low Drag
- Langhorne
- Piggzcreek ===Round of 16===
- Monaco Negative Drag
- Chicagoland Negative Drag
- Charlotte (10.0 Squeeze Percent) ===Round of 12===
- Orlando
- Martymoville
- Bonecrusher ===Round of 8===
- Slinger
- Martinsville (0.01 Inverse Slipcurve)
- Bowman Gray Stadium ===Championship 4===
- Dodge Motordrome
No Clash or All Star Race.
And that's it. 2016 will be the 7th season of this series, which is pretty hard to believe for me personally. The season will begin shortly!

2023.01.22 03:35 Zestyclose_Worth_232 NASCAR Cover Curse: Part 2
Remember when Black Flags Matter did a video on the NASCAR cover curse? Well, while he did go over most of the games, he did not go over the PAL/Alternate covers of some games. So, I thought I would share them out:
- NASCAR 2005: Chase for the Cup was supposed to have Jeremy Mayfield on the cover before it was changed to Kevin Harvick. Mayfield would only win two more races at Richmond in 2004 and Michigan in 2005, before being released by Ray Evernham midway through 2006. He raced with Bill Davis in 2007 and Gene Haas in 2008, before eventually starting his own team, but it did not last long. He was also eventually suspended by NASCAR. Mayfield only won five races during his entire NASCAR Cup Series career.
- The PAL version of NACSAR 06: Total Team Control had Kurt Busch on the cover. Kurt got suspended by NASCAR after an incident off the track and missed the final few races of 2005 because of it. He then moved to Penske in 2006 where he racked up plenty of wins but left Penske for a smaller team in Phoenix Racing for the 2012 season. Obviously, he did abysmal there and eventually joined Furniture Row for the full 2013 season but failed to score a victory. He eventually moved to Stewart-Haas where he won a few races, too, but still did not have a championship-caliber season like he did in '04. He moved to Ganassi in 2019, where he picked up three wins over three seasons. Finally, when he joined 23XI last season, he got a concussion, and his career ended as a result. The cover curse still affected him over a decade and a half later.
- Matt Kenseth was on the cover of the PAL version of NASCAR 07. Kenseth was not really affected by the curse, as he had many successful seasons with both Roush and Joe Gibbs. Unless you consider his altercation with Logano + his 2015 suspension to be part of the curse, Kenseth was a great driver regardless. He was just inducted into the Hall of Fame very recently.
- Juan Pablo Montoya was featured on the PAL cover for NASCAR 08. This one is very obvious. He only won one more race since the release of NASCAR 08 at the 2010 Watkins Glen race, and the jet dryer incident happened a little under two years later. Juan stopped racing full-time in 2013 and last drove for a Cup Series team in 2014 with Penske.
- Elliott Sadler was on the Best Buy exclusive cover for NASCAR 09. This one is another self-explanatory one. He only lasted for two more seasons with what is now known as Legacy Motor Club after 2008 and hadn't won a race since the 2004 Pop Secret 500 in Fontana. He only raced in 9 more races across three seasons since his release from the team.
EDIT: On NASCAR: Dirt to Daytona, Ward Burton and Brendan Gaughan can be seen on the cover. Ward Burton never won a race again after the 2002 New England 300, and moved to the #0 NetZero car, replacing Jack Sprague, for the final few races of 2003 before pursuing the full season in 2004. He was relieved of his duties with Gene Haas prior to the second-to-last race of the 2004 season, before moving to Morgan-McClure Motorsports. He was never the same again. Brendan Gaughan was mainly affected by the curse because he ended up losing the Truck Series championship via a wreck in 2003. He would never be a title contender again, and he never won a race in the Cup Series.
Hope you enjoyed!

2022.12.22 19:28 OverallExamination42 Business Analyst, In-direct Tax for KPMG
First, does anyone know about the work life of this role? Secondly, the pay is on the lower side of things at 19/hr. I know this is a great company to get into early on in my career but will I see very slow increases in pay over the years? I just turned down a 25/hr job with Penske for this one with KPMG (eventual relocation is mandatory with this specific Penske role) but I also have another company looking to hire me for about 50k a year with a possible extra 3,600 per year for good customer service. Would I be dumb to turn down the 50k a year job as well? Or should I get my foot in the door with KPMG where I could make 100k in like 5-10 years?

2022.11.22 16:22 Nickdr_12 Blog: One Take about each driver this season (OC)
I thought it would be fun to do a “one hot take about each driver season”, but since each take, I will share is not a ‘hot take’. I will instead call this a “one take about each driver this season”. I will go in order of the championship standings from 1st to 25th.
1. Will Power
One Take: After winning his 2nd championship will power has solidified himself as a top 5 IndyCar driver of all time, maybe even top 3 at least post-reunification.
2. Josef Newgarden
One take: Tim Cindric does not get enough of the responsibility for Josef losing the title this year. There were at least 3 races where the 2 team made the wrong strategy call which cost them to drop points to their rivals
3. Scott Dixon
One Take: Dixon will win another IndyCar championship before he retires
4. Scott Mclaughlin
One take: The final 3rd of his season was a product of Penske having by far the best package
5. Alex Palou
One take: Alex Palou was robbed of a victory in Mid-Ohio by race control
6. Marcus Ericsson
One take: Marcus Ericsson does not have the peak pace needed to be a true championship contender
7. Pato O’Ward
One take: Pato O’Ward championship chance at the championship ended at Mid-Ohio
8. Felix Rosenqvist
One Take: Felix Rosenqvist should be drawing interest from everyone in the paddock excluding Penske and McLaren
9. Alexander Rossi
One Take: Alexander Rossi should be the favorite to win the 2023 Indy 500
10. Colton Herta
One Take: Herta's season was flawed, yet he is talented enough to deserve an f1 shot.
11. Graham Rahal
One Take: This is Graham Rahal’s floor barring further RLL regression
12. Rinus Veekay
One Take: Rinus Veekay has reached his ceiling with Ed Carpenter Racing
13. Romain Grosjean
One Take: Grosjean was disappointing in 2022
14. Christian Lundgaard
One Take: Lundgaard is IndyCar's version of Alex Bowman
15. Simon Pagenaud
One Take: Simon Pagenaud is still capable of being a top 10 driver
16. David Malukas
One Take: The Malukas hype train has left the station. The hype might outpace actual on-track results in 2023.
17. Conor Daly
One Take: Conor Daly is a Replacement level driver in IndyCar
18. Helio Castroneves
One Take: Helio is overstaying his welcome back.
19. Takuma Sato
One Take: Going part-time is the best move for Takuma at this stage of his career
20. Callum Ilott
One Take: Callum is fully capable of building a team by himself
21. Jimmie Johnson
One Take: Jimmie Johnson had a great season in 2022. I would love to see him back in a part-time role
22. Jack Harvey
One Take: Jack Harvey moving to RLL exposed him as being overrated
23. Devlin Defrancesco
One Take: Devlin showed improvement toward the end of the season
24. Kyle Kirkwood
One Take: Kyle Kirkwood crashing 7 times, granted not all of them his fault is a concern going into 2023
25. Dalton Kellet
One take: Thanks for keeping people employed for 2 years at Foyt
Bonus
One Take that aged well: "Between Pato, Herta, and Palou two of them won't finish top 5 in the standings this year [2022]".

2022.11.17 20:29 C-N-Mento Herbert vs Mahomes: Career Head-to-Head stats
2022.11.17 14:17 seekerblackout 2012 Top Dozen Power Rankings
1. 99- Carl Edwards: After a remarkable 10 win season in 2011, Edwards has to be at the top of the pile even with going through one of the biggest championship chokes in recent memory. Team 99 could easily be a favorite for title #2 once again, only question is if their confidence has taken a hit from how last season ended.
2. 48- Jimmie Johnson: The 48 team had yet another fantastic season in 2011, scoring 5 wins and making an incredible comeback to 2nd in points and nearly winning the title at the last moment. Johnson is a no-brainer favorite for his 3rd championship in 2012.
3. 24- Jeff Gordon: He may be the old man of the garage at this point, but the 5-time champ just keeps getting it done. Gordon enjoyed a season of 2 victories and yet another top 5 points finish in 2011. With it looking like 2012 may be the last year for the COT, it's a big goal for Gordon to do what he's come close but not quite done and win a championship in it.
4. 18- Kyle Busch: 2011 was one of the younger Busch's best seasons, running top 5 in points all year, winning 3 times, and sneaking into the points lead after the penultimate race before bad strategy at Homestead killed his hopes. If there's a flaw with this team, it's lacking winning speed at a variety of tracks, as Kyle mostly only contends for wins on short tracks and road courses. If the 18 can be more versatile, they may even become the championship favorite.
5. 39- Ryan Newman: After pulling off one of the biggest upset championships NASCAR has seen, this 39 team has become the ultimate wild card. Some critics call Newman's title a fluke, as he still hasn't even won a race in the COT era, while others think becoming champions will be a huge shot in the arm for this team and form them into regular favorites. Newman's 2012 may be one of the most hard to predict title defenses ever.
6. 4- Kevin Harvick: Surprisingly, Harvick is now the only non-champion at Stewart-Haas Racing. But don't forget he came as close as you can get in 2010, and he still has 11 wins in 2 years with SHR. Inconsistency plagued his 2011, but the odds are far from against the 4 team going into 2012.
7. 17- Matt Kenseth: The 2003 Champion had an interesting comeback year in 2011, making the Chase for the first time since 2008, breaking a 2 year winless drought, and the fire of a feud between he and teammate Carl Edwards getting only bigger. Many predict Kenseth to be fired up going into this contract season.
8. 5- Casey Mears: This underdog driver has grown into a surprising contender over the last couple of years, putting together his best season in 2011 with one of the biggest top 5 numbers in the field and finishing a career high 6th in points. Going into 2010, the talk on Mears was about being on the hot seat. Going into 2012, the talk is about him being a shoo-in for another extension. If there's room for improvement for the 5 team, it'd be winning more races, as Mears still lacks a multi-win season.
9. 14- Tony Stewart: If you look only at wins, 2011 seems like a great year for Stewart, as he won 4 times, his most wins since all the way back in 2005. But that was about all the 14 team had to celebrate, as Smoke missed the Chase for the first time in his career, finished a, by his standards, dismal 16th in points, and sparked controversy late in the year by wrecking a good portion of the field at Phoenix. But the speed is clearly still there for the 3-time champ, and the popular take is to expect a bounce back 2012.
10. 2- Kurt Busch: Over the last couple of years, the elder Busch has arguably been carrying Penske Racing and even Dodge itself on his back. Despite not winning since early 2010, Busch was the championship leader with 3 races to go in 2011 before crashes at Texas and Phoenix ripped him out of contention. If Penske can wrangle some real speed out of these Dodges, the 2 team could be a major threat in 2012.
11. 11- Denny Hamlin: The 2-time Coca-Cola 600 winner had a pretty pedestrian 2011, finishing 11th in points with 1 win. Hamlin has consistently been a solid driver, never going winless in a season and always an easy pick to make the Chase, but he still seems to be chasing the magic of his incredible 2007 where he finished runner up in the championship. He should at least certainly be a favorite on the short tracks in 2012.
12. 16- Jamie McMurray: The 3-time Daytona 500 winner was fast but inconsistent in 2011, winning at Auto Club and finishing 10th in points. Many believe Jamie Mac has the talent, but he hasn't really put together that complete, championship caliber season yet. Could 2012 be the year?
Honorable Mentions: #29 Clint Bowyer, #19 Scott Riggs, #8 Brad Keselowski, #88 Dale Earnhardt Jr, #40 Casey Atwood

2022.10.27 17:13 freejoeexotic69 F2 drivers in Myteam
So I know that F2 was added to the game with its current drivers, but I was looking into starting a new Career mode and I haven’t played the game since before the update. Can I pick my 2nd driver to be an F2 driver? I was thinking about picking up Logan Sargeant if I were to do Penske or bring back Shadow Racing Cars and I wanna know if this is possible.
