2023.06.04 17:14 MasPatriot How does Marion figure it all out?

I recently finished the series and something that has been bothering me is how does Marion put it together that Gene isn't who he says he is? For background, I don't remember the scene but Gene specifically says to her that he's never been to Albuquerque. In S6E12 after Jeff has been arrested he calls Marion to tell her the news. She tells him that he's already been in legal trouble before when he was in Albuquerque then says
Me on the telephone for hours, long distance, trying to find one of those bailout places
Marion establishes that in Albuquerque that you have to pay a bondsman to bail someone out of jail. Gene then says
And you don't have to worry about a bondsman, either. Because guess what, in Omaha they don't have them. You just walk into the station and pay a straight cash bail. It's not like Albuquerque at all Marion pauses indicating that she has become suspicious of Gene
Here Gene contrasts the law in Omaha as opposed to the information Marion has already given. But the show makes it seem like Marion is confused as to how Gene knows about the rules around posting bond. Although a lawyer would be the likeliest person to know, someone with a non-legal background living in Omaha could reasonably know that Omaha doesn't have bondsmen. The idea that Jeff would call Gene after getting arrested first instead of Marion isn't that crazy either, he could play it off as not wanting to worry his mother that's already concerned about him falling into the wrong crowd. Marion then goes on her computer and searches "Albuquerque" and "con man" and finds a Saul Goodman commercial. The leap from Gene knowing about Omaha bail rules to looking for a conman from Albuquerque seems very large from a character that hasn't been established as being very savvy. I think the scene would've made more sense if Gene talks about the difference in bailing someone out in Omaha vs ABQ before Marion mentions it as a Cinnabon manager knowing Albuquerque laws off the top of his head is something that would raise suspicion.
Another pet peeve I have with the ending of the series is that Marion says she used Ask Jeeves but by 2010 it had been years since Ask Jeeves became

2023.05.28 04:51 Junior_Button5882 11 Terrifying-But-True Horror Stories Reported in the News - From fatal exorcisms to unexplained deaths and devil worship—these are some real-life nightmares.

A terrifying movie or book or show gets your blood pumping in the moment of consumption, sure—we covered our eyes in Squid Game with the rest of the world. But for the most part, you rest easy afterward knowing that what you've witnessed is fiction, deliberately spun up to creep you out. When the real world gets eerier than anything Stephen King could dream up, that's when you have every right to get a little scared of the dark.
Once in a while, a story of a dreadful disappearance, demonic possession, or devil worship will land in the local paper instead of a pulpy old paperback. We've rounded up the most unnerving real-life tales below. In honor of spooky season, here are eleven we can't stop thinking about.

The Axe Murder House

The Villisca Axe Murder House in Villisca, Iowa is a well-known tourist attraction for ghost hunters and horror lovers alike. The site of a gruesome unsolved 1912 murder, in which six children and two adults had their skulls completely crushed by the axe of an unknown perpetrator, was purchased in 1994, restored to its 1912 condition, and converted into a tourist destination. It costs $428 a night to stay at the old haunted home, where visitors always report strange paranormal experiences, such as visions of a man with an axe roaming the halls or the faint screams of children.
But in November of 2014, the haunting took a darker turn. Robert Steven Laursen Jr., 37, of Rhinelander, Wisconsin was on a regular recreational paranormal visit with friends when true horror struck. Per VICE:
His companions found him stabbed in the chest—an apparently self-inflicted wound—called 9-1-1, and Laursen was brought to a nearby hospital before being helicoptered to Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said Laursen suffered the self-inflicted injury at about 12:45 a.m., which is around the same time the 1912 axe murders in the house began.
Laursen recovered from his injuries, but has never spoken publicly about what occurred that day. For Martha Linn, the owner of the home, the incident was very upsetting. "It's publicity, but it's not exactly the kind of publicity you desire to have. I don't want people thinking that when they come to the Villisca Axe Murder House something's going to happen that's going to make them do something like that.” The house remains open for tourist visits and overnight stays today.

The Haunted Doll

When you think of haunted dolls, it’s likely the creepy old Victorian-looking porcelain kind that springs to mind. None of which you probably have laying around. Still, don’t get too comfortable around any kids toys too soon, though: a Disney’s Frozen Elsa doll that was gifted for Christmas 2013 in the Houston area made headlines earlier this year when it seemingly became haunted.
Per KPRC2 Houston News:
The doll recited phrases from the movie Frozen and sang “Let It Go” when a button on its necklace was pressed.
“For two years it did that in English,” mother Emily Madonia said. “In 2015, it started doing it alternating between Spanish and English. There wasn’t a button that changed these, it was just random."
The family has owned the doll for more than six years and never changed its batteries. The mother says the doll would randomly begin to speak and sing even with its switch turned off.
The family decided to throw the creepy doll out in December of 2019. Weeks later, they found it inside a bench in their living room. “The kids insisted they didn’t put it there, and I believed them because they wouldn’t have dug through the garbage outside,” Madonia told KPRC2 Houston News.

Esquire Select

At that point, Elsa ceased to sing the English rendition of “Let It Go” altogether, speaking only Spanish when pressed. The family then double-bagged the bizarre doll and placed it at the bottom of their garbage which was taken out on garbage day. They went on a trip shortly after, but when they returned, Elsa too had come back, and was waiting in the backyard of their home.
This time, the family mailed Elsa to a family friend in Minnesota, who taped the haunted doll to the front bumper of his truck. It doesn’t seem to have made its way back to Houston yet, as per Madonia’s latest February Facebook update on the creepy doll.

A Deadly Exorcism

In August 2016 in North London, 26-year-old Kennedy Ife began acting strange and aggressive following a pain in his throat. He reportedly bit his father, threatened to cut off his own penis, and complained of a python or snake inside of him before his family restrained him to a bed with cable ties and excessive force.
As the BBC reported:
“The family then set about attempting to ‘cure’ Kennedy through restraint and prayer over the next three days, the court was told.”
His brother, Colin Ife, told police:
“It’s clear that thing was in him, what we believed was a demon because it was not natural. It was clearly trying to kill him,” he said.
“We had to restrain him for himself. It was clear if we didn’t restrain him, he could have tried to harm people in our family.”
Kennedy Ife had been bound to his bed for three days without medical attention when his brother called emergency services, explaining that Kennedy Ife was complaining of dehydration. He appeared to have developed breathing issues, and was pronounced dead at 10:17 a.m.
As The Independent reported:
While police were at the house Colin Ife allegedly carried out an “attempted resurrection” by chanting and praying for Mr. Ife.
All seven of Kennedy Ife’s family members were accused of manslaughter, false imprisonment, and causing or allowing the death of a vulnerable adult. A post-mortem examination revealed over 60 wounds including a possible bite on Kennedy Ife’s body, and his father, Kenneth Ife, along with four of his brothers, sustained injuries as well.

The BBC reported:
Kenneth Ife told jurors he ordered his sons to take shifts and use "overwhelming force" but denied that an "association with cults, occults and secret societies" played any part in the death.
After a four day jury deliberation, all seven family members were cleared of charges on March 14, 2019.

Dead Animals in the Walls

When the Bretzuis family decided to insulate their home in Auburn, Pennsylvania in 2015, they discovered that it had already been—with scores of dead animal carcasses.
As Fox reported:
The dead animals were wrapped in newspapers from the 1930s and 40s and were among half-used spices, and other items.
After removing the items they sent hundreds of artifacts and carcasses to an expert in Kutztown.
The expert attributed the rotting animals in their walls to Pow-wow or Dutch magic, a ritual originating in the culture of the Pennsylvania Dutch to treat ailments and gain physical and spiritual protection. The Pennsylvania Dutch were a group of German-speaking settlers to Pennsylvania in the 1600 and 1700’s, and are often of Lutheran, Mennonite, or Amish faiths.
The Washington Post notes on the magic:
Many of the spells deal with the care of livestock, finding water, or the treatment of minor ailments, reflecting the conditions and concerns of early American settlers.
But powwow also has within it a tradition of darker spells, and even of such things as conjuring demons.
One notable ritual in their tradition is this hex to create loyalty in a dog:
To attach a dog to a person, provided nothing else was used before to effect it: Try to draw some of your blood, and let the dog eat it along with his food, and he will stay with you.
The mold found on the rotting carcasses in the Bretzuis home has caused illness among the family members, and they say that the odor hasn’t gone away.

Florida Devil Worshipping

Friends noticed that Danielle Harkins, a 35-year-old schoolteacher near St. Petersburg, Florida, started acting strangely in June of 2012, developing an interest in demonic rituals.
Soon after, she was arrested for abuse of seven of her former students, as the Tampa Bay Times reported:
Danielle Harkins told the kids they needed to rid their bodies of demons as the group gathered before dusk Saturday around a small fire near the St. Petersburg Pier. They should cut their skin to let the evil spirits out, police said she told the children. Then, they needed to burn the wounds to ensure that those spirits would not return.
When Harkins held a lighter to one teen's hand, wind blew the flame out, police said. That prompted her to douse his hand in perfume before setting it on fire. The boy suffered second-degree burns, police said.
Another teen was cut on the neck with a broken bottle, police said. Harkins used a flame to heat a small key, which she then used to cauterize the wound.
The police were notified because a friend of one of the students who participated in the ritual raised alarms. However none of the students themselves told their parents about the event or would comment following the arrest of Harkins for aggravated battery and child abuse.
NBC reported:
Investigators said they've spoken to Harkins, but she didn't spell out what type of religion would require such drastic measures.
"She hasn't informed us exactly what she was trying to accomplish with this," Puetz [of the St. Petersburg Police Department] said.

The Death of Elisa Lam

Elisa Lam was last seen on January 31, 2013 in the lobby of the Cecil Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. She was vacationing through the West Coast, documenting the trip on her blog, and checking in with her parents every day. On January 31 those calls stopped. Lam had vanished. Soon the police were involved and her parents arrived to help with the search.
They had nothing. That February, LAPD released elevator surveillance footage of Lam before her disappearance. The footage shows Lam behaving strangely in the elevator, appearing to talk with invisible people, peering around the corner of the door, crouching in the corner, and opening and closing the door. But what exactly is going on in this video raises more questions than answers. Theories range from psychotic episodes, to demonic possession, to unknown assailants just out of the camera's view:

Around that time, hotel guests started reported weird things happening with the Cecil Hotel water supply. As CNN reports:

"The shower was awful," said Sabina Baugh, who spent eight days there during the investigation. "When you turned the tap on, the water was coming black first for two seconds and then it was going back to normal."The tap water "tasted horrible," Baugh said. "It had a very funny, sweety, disgusting taste. It's a very strange taste. I can barely describe it."But for a week, they never complained. "We never thought anything of it," she said. "We thought it was just the way it was here."
On the morning of February 19, a hotel employee climbed to the roof and used a ladder to investigate the hotel's water storage tanks. That's where authorities found the decomposing, naked body of Lam, whose personal items were found nearby. After an autopsy, her death was labeled accidental. NBC Los Angeles reported at the time about the strange circumstances in the hotel's past:
The tank has a metal latch that can be opened, but authorities said access to the roof is secured with an alarm and lock. The single-room-occupancy hotel has an unusual history. "Night Stalker" Richard Ramirez, who was found guilty of 14 slayings in the 1980s, lived on the 14th floor for several months in 1985. And international serial killer Jack Unterweger is suspected of murdering three prostitutes during the time he lived there in 1991. He killed himself in jail in 1994.In 1962, a female occupant jumped out of one the hotel's windows, killing herself and a pedestrian on whom she landed.
In February 2021, a Netflix doc called Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel explored Elisa's tragic case and the history of the "cursed" Cecil Hotel.

An Exorcism in Indianapolis

Last year, the Indianapolis Star published a lengthy report on a family terrorized by three children allegedly possessed by demons. The account of Latoya Ammons and her family tells disturbing stories of children climbing up the walls, getting thrown across rooms, and children threatening doctors in deep unnatural voices. It would seem like something straight out of a movie–a work of fantasy, except all of these accounts were more or less corroborated with "nearly 800 pages of official records obtained by the Indianapolis Star and recounted in more than a dozen interviews with police, DCS personnel, psychologists, family members and a Catholic priest."
One of the more chilling sections of the report includes a segment about the possessed 9-year-old:
According to Washington's original DCS report—an account corroborated by Walker, the nurse—the 9-year-old had a "weird grin" and walked backward up a wall to the ceiling. He then flipped over Campbell, landing on his feet. He never let go of his grandmother's hand.
Another segment of the piece reads:
The 12-year-old would later tell mental health professionals that she sometimes felt as if she were being choked and held down so she couldn't speak or move. She said she heard a voice say she'd never see her family again and wouldn't live another 20 minutes.

Utah Murder-Suicide

In September of 2014, a Utah teen returned to his home to find his parents and three siblings dead. "In a notebook, a 'to-do list' had been scribbled on the pages ... The list looked as if the parents were readying to go on vacation—items such as 'feed the pets' and 'find someone to watch after the house' were written," The Salt Lake Tribune reported. It appeared to be murder-suicide, but there was no suicide note, no prior indication that they would do this, no explanation. Police could not figure out why two parents would kill themselves and three of their four children.
For a year, no one knew exactly what happened to the family, or what would drive the parents to do something so unthinkable. In January, police released more chilling details in the case. According to accounts from family members and an investigation by police, the parents were driven by a belief that the apocalypse was coming and an obsession with a convicted killer. As the Washington Post reported:
Friends and family told police that the parents were worried about the "evil in the world" and wanted to escape a "pending apocalypse." But most assumed they just wanted to move somewhere "off the grid." Investigators also found letters written by Kristi Strack to one of the state's most infamous convicted killers, Dan Lafferty, who was convicted in the 1984 fatal stabbing of his sister-in-law and her 1-year-old daughter. According to trial testimony, he killed the victims at the order of his brother, Ron Lafferty, who claimed to have had a revelation from God. The story became a book called "Under the Banner of Heaven."Police said Kristi Strack became friends with Dan Lafferty, and she and her husband even visited him in prison.

The Phone Stalker

In 2007, ABC news documented a series of cell phone calls to families with terrifyingly specific death threats. The unidentified callers knew exactly what families were doing and what they were wearing.
The families say the calls come in at all hours of the night, threatening to kill their children, their pets and grandparents. Voice mails arrive, playing recordings of their private conversations, including one with a local police detective. The caller knows, the families said, what they're wearing and what they're doing. And after months of investigating, police seem powerless to stop them.
This went on with the Kuykenall family for months, who reported a caller with a scratchy voice threatening to slit their throats.
When the Fircrest, Wash., police tried to find the culprit, the calls were traced back to the Kuykendalls' own phones -- even when they were turned off.It got worse. The Kuykendalls and two other Fircrest families told ABC News that they believe the callers are using their cell phones to spy on them. They say the hackers know their every move: where they are, what they're doing and what they're wearing. The callers have recorded private conversations, the families and police said, including a meeting with a local detective.

"The Watcher"

After moving into their $1.3 million dream home, a New Jersey family started receiving creepy death threats from someone who identified themselves as "The Watcher." As CBS News reported earlier this year:
Advertisement - Continue Reading Below
Since moving in, the owners said they have received numerous letters from the mysterious person. "The Watcher" claimed the home "has been the subject of my family for decades," and "I have been put in charge of watching and waiting for its second coming," Castro reported. The new owners have several children, and other letters asked, "Have they found out what's in the walls yet?" and "I am pleased to know your names now, and the name of the young blood you have brought to me."
The family was forced to flee from their home and later filed a lawsuit against the previous owners.

Issei the Cannibal

In 1974, 24-year-old Wako University student Issei Sagawa allegedly followed a German woman to her home in Tokyo, Japan, broke into her apartment while she was sleeping, and attempted to cut a piece of flesh off her body to consume. When she awoke, she reportedly fought him and he was later captured by the police. According to a 2012 Vice documentary that covered Issei's bizarre story, he was mistakenly charged with attempted rape and his wealthy father paid the victim a settlement outside of court to have the charges dropped.
Seven years later, in 1981, he allegedly committed a murder in France—shooting and eating a fellow University student, Renée Hartevelt. Issei creepily documented the entire experience with photographs and he was captured by authorities once again while attempting to dump the rest of her body in the Bois de Boulogne lake. He was deported back to Japan and committed to a mental institution. For reason unknown, his psychologists in Japan declared that he was sane. Furthermore, a legal technicality involving the French government refusing to turn over the documents from his case meant that his murder charges were dropped completely. He checked himself out of the mental hospital and has reportedly been walking the streets as a free man ever since. Issei has even become a controversial celebrity, writing over 20 books. According to Japan Today, he most recently fantasized about an unnamed TV actress, saying:
"I'll catch a glimpse of her thigh and think, 'That sure looks tasty.' But I don't feel like I actually want to eat it. As I accomplished the act of cannibalism once, there's no meaning to maintaining the desire for it anymore. In my book, I wrote that it [human flesh] was tasty, but that was not really true; I'd much rather eat Matsuzaka (Kobe) beef. But because I'd desired to consume human flesh for so long, I'd managed to convince myself that it would necessarily be delicious."
Issei Sagawa was also referenced in the Rolling Stones song "Too Much Blood," with the lyrics reading: "And when he ate her he took her bones/To the Bois de Boulogne." He is currently 73 years old and continues to live in Kawaski City, Japan. To this day, no one knows why France did not allow Japan to give him a trial.

2023.05.19 08:50 tanisthebard alternative direction Season 6 could have gone.

Ok, this post is kinda long, so bear with me.: Everything stays the same until Nacho's death scene. As soon as nacho breaks free from his restraints, Mike starts firing on the people below, not killing anyone, but distracting them long enough for Nacho to escape. The next two episodes stay 100% the same, but Nacho reappears in ep 6 ( axe and grind). First, he enters Dr Caldera's veterinary clinic to get the Disappearer's contact info, which he uses to get his father to safety. Then, he approaches Lalo, hoping to form an alliance to take down Gus. They use Nacho as bait to try to draw out Gus, but Mike comes instead and kills Nacho similarly to how he killed Werner Ziegler in Season 4. Lalo then goes to Kim's apartment just like the real show, and the events of Point and Shoot play out as seen IRL as well. That is, up until Gus turns on the lights and sees Lalo's bloody footprints instead of his body. However, Lalo merely decides to abandon his life of crime with Mrs.Ziegler in Germany. But, because nobody can ever have a happy ending in this universe, Mrs. Ziegler is a Madrigal executive, and she goes to prison after Gus's downfall. Upon finding out Gus is involved, Lalo returns to Albuquerque to investigate, and once he discovers Saul's involvement, goes on the warpath. He tracks Saul to Omaha and travels there to kill him. Saul finds out about his arrival and hides a gun in the Cinnabon. Saul and Lalo engage in a shootout in the mall, and though Saul ends up killing Lalo, the latter uses his dying breath to reveal the former's true identity, leading to his arrest. Saul Gone then plays out as seen.

2023.05.15 06:44 TravisTouchdown_51 One Minor Detail/Theory about Mr. Lingk (Cancer Scam Victim) and the downfall of Saul/Jimmy:

The barbiturates that Jeff gave to the scam victims in Omaha were meant to knock out the user for several hours and leave them groggy even after they wake up. I had a thought after watching "Waterworks" that perhaps the cancer medication that Mr. Lingk was already taking had some barbiturates within them, and he had probably built up a tolerance of them after being on his cancer meds for so long. This would explain why he woke up much earlier than expected and was able to inadvertently cause Saul/Jimmy's downfall by making Jimmy hide for too long at his house, causing Jeff to eventually panic when he sees the cops and set off the chain of events that would lead to Jimmy's arrest. If that's the case, kudos to Gilligan and Co. for putting that amount of thought and attention to detail into such a minor character. It's also brings cancer into the storyline full circle as it was the reason that the events of Breaking Bad started and also the reason that Better Call Saul reached its ending.

“If woke culture is a disease, then philanthropy is the virus,” investor watchdog Pete Flaherty told Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett and fellow shareholders Saturday, before being arrested while giving his remarks. Pictured: Buffett speaks to reporters as he arrives at a similar annual shareholder meeting in Omaha, Nebraska, on May 4, 2019. (Photo: Johannes Eisele/AFP/Getty Images)
The chairman of a corporate watchdog was removed from a shareholder meeting and arrested after questioning Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett’s support for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The ejected nonprofit leader’s criticism Saturday included Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates’ travel with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Pete Flaherty, chairman and CEO of the National Legal and Policy Center, was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing by police in Omaha, Nebraska, even though his name was on the list of attendees for the Berkshire Hathaway shareholder meeting.
“I apparently touched the third rail of billionaire politics when I mentioned Jeffrey Epstein’s name,” Flaherty told The Daily Signal on Monday. “I’ve been involved in shareholder activism for 19 years, and I have never before had my mic cut and I was never before arrested.”
Epstein is a convicted sex offender whose 2019 death in a New York jail while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges was ruled a suicide. He had close ties to elites in politics, business, and entertainment.
Buffett, the billionaire chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., is well known for taking political stances on the Left, often for higher taxes for the nation’s top earners.
Berkshire Hathaway, a multinational conglomerate holding company based in Omaha, did not immediately respond Monday to phone and email inquiries from The Daily Signal.
The National Legal and Policy Center, or NLPC, was the sponsor of Proposal No. 8 at Saturday’s shareholder meeting in Omaha, which would “require hereafter that two separate people hold the office of the chairman and the office of the CEO.” Buffett holds both jobs.
At the meeting, Flaherty said that under the proposed change, Berkshire “would be less identified with Mr. Buffett’s personal political activities,” and pointed to Buffett’s support for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, among other factors.
Under the meeting rules, shareholders have three minutes to speak for a resolution. A Berkshire Hathaway employee interrupted Flaherty shortly after 1 minute, and then someone cut his microphone.
In his remarks, Flaherty talked about the Gates nonprofit’s funding of left-wing causes such as critical race theory, gender politics, and defunding the police. However, it was only when he brought up Epstein that several in the audience booed and hissed.
“The Gates Foundation bankrolls the teaching of critical race theory around the country, including that math is inherently racist,” Flaherty said at the shareholder meeting Saturday. The Gates Foundation offers a Gender Identity Toolbox which asserts that gender is the result of “socially and culturally constructed ideas. This is a lie. Gender is not a cultural construct. It is a genetic and biological fact. … We know how much Bill Gates cares about children. He met and traveled with Jeffrey Epstein many times after Epstein was convicted of sex crimes.”
Two security officers then stood in front of Flaherty and told him that he would be arrested if he continued.
Flaherty recalled responding that he would leave after finishing his statement. He said he didn’t know at the time that his microphone’s audio had been cut.
Next, an Omaha police officer told Flaherty that he was under arrest and escorted him from the meeting at CHI Health Center Arena. Police transported him to the Douglas County Correctional Center in Omaha, where he was searched, handcuffed, and charged with criminal trespass.
Police detained Flaherty for about three hours, not waiting in a cell but on a bench with others who had been arrested. He paid a bond of $2,500 to be released.
Flaherty, a resident of Arlington, Virginia, is set to appear May 22 in Douglas County Court in Omaha.
Since 2004, Flaherty and other NLPC staffers have attended and spoken at annual shareholder meetings held by various corporations, including Bank of America, Coca-Cola, Goldman Sachs, Home Depot, PepsiCo, Salesforce, Visa, Alphabet, Amazon, Boeing, Citigroup, Facebook, Procter & Gamble, and Walmart.
“I was treated like any other criminal, fingerprinted, handcuffed,” Flaherty told The Daily Signal. “I’ve always been courteous with decorum at the annual shareholder meetings. I didn’t raise my voice. I was not disruptive.”
Geoffrey Berman, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, points to Jeffrey Epstein’s photo as he announces sex-trafficking charges against the financier on July 8, 2019. (Photo: Stephanie Keith/Getty Images)
Flaherty said he is asking for an apology from Berkshire Hathaway, and that the charges be dropped.
He was on the schedule to speak at theshareholder meeting, Flaherty noted. Both Securities and Exchange Commission regulations and Delaware state law require that publicly traded companies hold annual meetings to hear shareholder input. Although based in Nebraska, like many major corporations, for tax reasons Berkshire Hathaway was incorporated in Delaware
Below is a transcript of the exchange on Saturday:
Flaherty: I am Peter Flaherty, chairman of the National Legal and Policy Center. If we had an independent chair, the company [Berkshire Hathaway] would be less identified with Mr. Buffett’s political activities.
He’s donated tens of billions to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. As Bill Gates explained when the couple was still together, “although the foundation bears our names, basically half our resources have come from Warren Buffett.”
If woke culture is a disease, then philanthropy is the virus.
The Gates Foundation bankrolls the teaching of critical race theory around the country, including that math is inherently racist.
The Gates Foundation offers a Gender Identity Toolbox which asserts that gender is the result of “socially and culturally constructed ideas.”
This is a lie. Gender is not a cultural construct. It is a genetic and biological fact.
[At this point, a Berkshire Hathaway employee interrupts.]
Flaherty: You are not going to censor what I say, Ma’am. I’m very sorry. And I appeal to the chair that I be allowed to continue. Sir?
Buffett: You may continue, but under the three-minute limitation.
Flaherty: Of course.
We know how much Bill Gates cares about children. He met and traveled with Jeffrey Epstein many times after Epstein was convicted of sex crimes.
The Gates Foundation had a huge influence over the COVID response fiasco.
Bill Gates defended China’s COVID policies and still discounts the possibility that the virus originated from a lab [in Wuhan, China], even though U.S. intelligence agencies disagree.
The Gates Foundation may be the largest single donor to the dark money machine known as Arabella [Advisors.]
[Buffett gestures from the stage and makes inaudible comments.]
Flaherty: It funds causes like defunding the police that are making American cities unlivable.
Money goes, too, to groups conducting—
[Flaherty’s microphone is cut at the 2:04 mark; the rest is inaudible.]

2023.05.09 02:34 AustereRoberto Operation Last Mile
Written release from the DEA Omaha division, did this fly completely under the radar in national coverage?
Idk how you measure "success" against the cartels, and "dope on the table" might be the equivalent of "body count" metrics in Vietnam or elsewhere, but these are some forkin' yuuuge numbers.
"Nationally, Operation Last Mile comprised of 1,436 investigations conducted from May 1, 2022 through May 1, 2023, in collaboration with federal, state and local law enforcement partners, and resulted in 3,337 arrests and the seizure of nearly 44 million fentanyl pills, more than 6,500 pounds of fentanyl powder, more than 91,000 pounds of methamphetamine, 8,497 firearms, and more than $100 million."

2023.05.07 23:26 gaypornwatcher69 Please excuse the name, probation question

I'll get this out of the way first, my teenage son set up my reddit account and I wasn't aware of the screen name, and haven't bothered to change it as I usually don't post. So that's out of the way, my question is about sentencing and probation in the state of Nebraska. Long story short, around 2017 my now fiance was sentenced to drug court in Douglas county (the date could be wrong, but it was at least 2017). She violated. Drug court and had some choice words with the judge and let him know she was quiting the program in a very abrasive way. She then sat in jail for around 7months before being sentenced by the same judge that presided over drug court to a term of five years probation on one count and three years probation on the second, and ordered that it was to be served consecutively. They were both possession of small amounts of methamphetamine. One of the counts was for a straw that they swabbed and tested positive for meth. She was on probation for approximately 9months when she relapsed and stopped reporting. She was then arrested in Iowa and ultimately charged and convicted of bringing contraband into the jail for hiding a syringe full of meth hoping she would be able to toss it before they found it. For this she was sentenced to five year in prison, and was released after 4 and some change. Around this time I met her, she was on parole in Iowa but being supervised in and by Nebraska. Again she relapsed and obsconded. We were arrested together and this time she was carrying my baby. She was sent back to prison in Iowa and was granted early release just two weeks before our daughter was born. Before she was released, her counselor and other prison personnel contacted the state of Nebraska, and Douglas county to find out if they were coming to get her for her charges in Nebraska, and they were told that they were not going to pursue it, and she could be released. She moved to a women's shelter in Grand Island ne. where I was living in a halfway house, and over the past two years we've rebuilt our life from nothing. We now have two cars, a house, I have custody of my 17 year old son and our daughter turned 2 yesterday, and have stayed off drugs. All was well until this last December, we went to pick up mail that was being held for her recently deceased father, and in it was a letter informing her she had to report to probation by a certain date or a warrant would be issued, and as it was sent to her dad's apartment we didn't find it until a month or more after said date. Sure enough upon checking she had a warrant out of Douglas county. We immediately went back to Omaha and she appeared in court, where her public defender came out and informed her that her probation had been reinstate and she was to report to the grand Island probation office within 3 days. So now she is on sass probation, and is being put through the wringer by her probation officer shows that she is devoid of any empathy. We were both under the care of a doctor for our mental health issues, which spiraled out of control when her dad passed. We're having a housing crisis because our landlord broke our lease early because he needs to move his family into the house in two weeks, and I have a workers comp case that's. Been drug out since November, and am unable to work. her po fans the flame by telling her she isn't trying hard enough and that she is using her mental health as an excuse, and is indifferent about the fact that we'll soon be homeless, and just told her that she was sending a progress report to the judge and she was going to tell him she isn't taking probation seriously or trying to change for the better. I'm sorry for the novel, alot of info in there that is probably irrelevant, but I wanted to paint as clear a picture as possible.
Tl;Dr. Can a judge order probation to run consecutively on two charges that are the same and resulting from the same incident. And second, after serving prison in Iowa and being told by Nebraska that they didn't want her, can they just change their mind almost two years later and issue a warrant? This seems extremely unethical, considering she served five years prison (total) plus seven months in county In Nebraska, all for possession of less than a total of less than $20 worth of meth (combined),and that her sentencing judge was also her drug court judge. I know someone who was caught with over a pound of meth right before we were both arrested, sat I. County, went to prison and is now out, and will be off paper before my fiance. I was caught with an oz of meth and obsconded around the same time, and will still be off before her. What is going on?

2023.04.30 22:34 TheFrodo The disappearance of escaped convict Leslie Arnold (Omaha, Nebraska) has been solved

As reported by the Omaha World Herald today, the mystery of Leslie Arnold has been solved. I highly recommend this article, it is a fascinating read.
In 1958, Leslie Arnold shot his mother to death over a dispute, then did the same to his father. He buried their bodies in the backyard and was arrested a few weeks later. In 1967, close to his projected release date, Arnold and an accomplice successfully executed an elaborate escape plan from the state penitentiary. For a more detailed post on the mystery, I highly recommend this one by u/vajabjab on this sub.
While the full testimony of the discovery by the nebraska police officer doesn't come out till tomorrow, we do know that a DNA match was found after the escaped convict's son (who remains anonymous) submitted a sample to a genealogy site like ancestry. Arnold assumed a new life under the name John Damon, moving across the United States before settling in Australia, where he died in 2010.
I know this isn't a super high profile case, but I found it super interesting!
EDIT: The followup I mentioned has now come out! (and here is a paywall free version lol)

Party Divisions Life of a Politician S2 Age 53
The hot summer sun beat down on the cobbled streets of Omaha, Nebraska as politicians, activists, and curious onlookers alike streamed towards the site of the Farmer-Labor convention. Despite the heat, the excitement in the air was palpable as the diverse group of attendees eagerly anticipated what was to come. As the convention got underway in Omaha, Nebraska, delegates gathered outside in the sweltering heat, as the announcement had been made so hastily that there was no time to secure a proper indoor venue. Despite the less-than-ideal conditions, spirits were high. The convention was marked by lively speeches and debates, with many of the attendees calling for sweeping changes to the country's economic and political systems. The Party was a patchwork of alliances between different like minded groups that would all be given the opportunity to speak. Representing the Silver Faction, Colorado Senator Henry Teller would state that "The time has come when the people of this country must either bow down to the golden calf of Wall Street or else sound the trumpet for silver."

Henry Teller leader of the Silver faction
Next the progressive faction would be given the chance to speak with two noticeable speeches done by Wisconsinite Robert La Follette and Georgia Representative Thomas E Watson respectively. La Follette would state that “Democracy means that if the door is closed, we open a window. If the window is closed, we break down the door. Let us break down the doors of injustice and corruption, and let the light of democracy shine in for all. The Farmer-Labor Party represents the true spirit of democracy, and it is our duty to ensure that this party is victorious in the upcoming election.” and Thomas Watson would say that “We must break free from the shackles of big business and political corruption, and embrace the ideals of justice, equality, and common decency. Let us go forth from this convention with a renewed commitment to the cause of progressivism!”.

Thomas E Watson representing the Progressive faction
Speeches after speeches, the Convention went on with cheers for every speaker, until the socialist factions were next to speak. The most notable speech came from former populist and labor organizer Eugene Debs who would say “"Socialism is not merely a different economic system, it is a different moral order. It rests not on competition, but on cooperation; not on individualism, but on solidarity. Socialism is not the pioneer of a new era of greed and competition, but the pioneer of a new era of cooperation and brotherhood. Therefore let us brothers and sisters of the Farmer-Labor party, we must come together to stop the Wall Street elites and Robber Barons”. Socialism has always been a touchy subject amongst progressive circles and this was no exception.

Eugene Debs leader of the Socialist faction
After another round of speakers that go on four another hour, the final speaker was up. Rising up to the podium with confidence, the man of the hour and the founder of the young party. In his short acceptance speech he would say in a calm yet strong voice “Today, we stand at a crossroads. We have a choice: to remain divided and weakened, or to come together and fight for the common good. To let corruption and Greed reign or have the people take power. I see in this crowd, people with different backgrounds and have different visions, but we all share the belief that the power of the many is greater than the power of the few. Let us unite, as farmers and laborers, as silver republicans and progressives, as socialists and populists, and let us build a movement that will not only win this election, but transform this nation for generations to come.”
As he steps off the podium, a final round of cheering comes from the crowd that reverberates through the entire city. The aftermath of the convention was a flurry of activity, as party officials and supporters fanned out across the country to drum up support for Hays and his platform. There were skeptics, of course, who doubted that the Farmer-Labor Party had any chance of success against the well-entrenched interests of the traditional parties. Nevertheless, the energy and enthusiasm of party members was infectious, and many people were drawn to the party's message.
Coxey's Army
As the Farmer-Labor Party gained momentum and support, one man found himself caught up in the storm of change. Jacob Coxey, a veteran of the labor strikes, had fought on the side of the strikers and had been arrested for his involvement in the Labor Wars. While in prison, he had become increasingly radicalized, and his time behind bars had only fueled his passion. When Coxey was finally released, he found himself drawn to the ideas and ideals of the Farmer-Labor Party. Inspired by the party's message, Coxey decided to take action. He formed a group of like-minded individuals, many of them veterans of the labor wars, and together they began to plan a march on Washington, D.C. Their goal was to spread the message of the party, to demand change and to bring attention to the struggles of the working class. As they made their way eastward, Coxey's army drew attention from all corners. Some saw them as a threat, a dangerous group of radicals with the potential to cause chaos and upheaval. Others saw them as heroes, fighting for the rights of the common man and standing up against the forces of corruption and greed. Despite the attention and scrutiny, Coxey and his army pressed on. They marched through towns and cities, spreading the message of the Farmer-Labor Party and gathering support from those who shared their vision for a better world. And as they approached the nation's capital, they did so with a sense of purpose and determination, ready to make their voices heard and to fight for the cause.

Jacob Coxey begins his march on Washington
You sit in the comfortable armchair of your hotel room, the sound of rain tapping on the windowpane providing a soothing background noise as you sort through the stack of letters that have piled up on the desk. Most of them are from supporters and well-wishers, thanking you for your inspiring speech at the Farmer-Labor convention and pledging their support for your candidacy. However two letters, in particular, catch your eye. They are both from prominent organizations, the Women's Christian Temperance Union and the Anti-Saloon League. As you read through them, you realize that they are both asking for your position on the issue of prohibition. In the letter from the Women's Christian Temperance Union, they remind you that Women with property are now allowed to vote and that they have not formally endorsed any candidate. In the letter from the Anti-Saloon league, they are more straightforward and demand that you announce your support for prohibition.
You take a deep breath and lean back in your chair, considering your response carefully. You know that many of your supporters are in favor of temperance and prohibition, and you don't want to alienate them. Temperance is most popular in the south and the rural north where your base of support is. After a few moments of reflection, you pick up a pen and begin to craft your response in a open letter that will be released to the public.
Will you support strict prohibition, temperance based on state legislature, a Sunday drinking ban, oppose prohibition entirely, or stay neutral
