As I sit at 1AM rocking my new eight day old son, I’m trying to figure out how to get my financial life together to better support him and my daughter.
I rather recently took a new job that gets quarterly bonuses and, at the end of the year, I’ll also have about $6,000 in reimbursement funds from a daycare FSA to play with. In the past my wife and I would blow through that faster than I’d like to admit on just living.
That being said, we’d like to get some advice on how best to use these windfalls within the YNAB method to better support our financial picture.
As a little bit more background: married, 2 kids (3yrs and 8 days old) making about $120k gross.
The options for the $6k plus bonus windfalls are as follows:
1) pay down debt - all we have is a $19,000 car loan that, while I’d love to pay off early, isn’t the priority at the moment.
2) get 1 month ahead - might be nice to have a little breathing room.
3) pad our emergency fund - this sits at only $5,000 at the moment and that makes both my wife and I nervous.
4) fund our true expenses - this is the route I’m leaning as we currently don’t have the margin to fund them and when life happens it’s easy to over extend.
5) help fund daycare - 2 kids in full time daycare in my area is around $2,100/month or $25,200 a year. We’ll need to build that up next year and also fund about 4 months of $2k/month daycare this year still. (As a little background here we currently only spend ~$1k / month in daycare for our daughter and we are dangerously close to the edge being paycheck to paycheck that I’m not sure where the extra $1k will come from).
Any advice is welcome, thanks!

Hi all, wanted to preface this in that this is in no way an attack on your religion, just a genuine question from an ex-believer. Really want to follow God and have no doubt he’s real and all that but I can’t bring myself to accept that he’s a good God due to the following.
I don’t understand how God can throw everyone who sins to hell. It doesn’t seem good to me that the God that created us with the capacity for sin would then think it’s good to throw us into hell because we’re doing what we were made to do. I get that it’s “our choice” to sin, but it doesn’t seem right that God would choose to eternally punish us for something that he could’ve , in all His power, just not included in our nature.
The second reason I can’t do this is because of the amount of genuinely decent people that will go to hell. I feel like my morality is a burden more than an asset, because I’m going to live everyday with the curse of morality that won’t allow me to enjoy mindless fun. I think I’d be happier if I lost my morality and just didn’t think about this anymore. At least then I could live in ignorance, but no I’m going to live my days as a good person (I get it, no one’s a good person because everyone’s sinned, I mean by human standards) and then I’m going to be dropped into hell anyways because I couldn’t accept a God that knew he was going to send everyone that didn’t believe in him to hell. Apologies for the long post, I have more to say regarding some believers going to hell as well, but I don’t want to drone on. Hello all!
About 2 months ago we moved in to a rental home. That same week we noticed there was a raccoon living in our chimney and reported it to the landlord. The house had apparently been empty for about 2 years before we moved in so no one bothered checking the premises for rodents and animals. It had been sprayed for pests supposedly but we found a bunch of spiders and springtails. Which didn’t bother me since I could always just vacuum them up. The landlord took about a month to remove the raccoon. And now after the removal of the raccoon about 4 weeks after it was gone, we noticed fleas. It’s been about a week since we started seeing them. In our backyard at first when we were doing yard work, but then we saw them around our chimney and couch, and now in our bed and on ourselves. We do not have any pets at all. I have been vacuuming, but I still see them especially on us (seeing as we’re probably their only food source at the moment since there is no animals in the house). Our couch was new. Most of our furniture is new, even our mattress. I’m freaking out now because I saw a flea on my 8 month old’s hair after she was crawling in the living room area. Will these fleas continue to strive and reproduce on just us? Or will it be a few weeks until they die off? I’m kind of short on money at the moment so I cannot afford an exterminator. My ankles are covered in flea bites as well. I feel like it’s started to get out of control within a week. Should I use a fogger for our living room/bedroom area? What other tricks can kill these things faster?

’If you can believe what we’re showing here, it looks like an earthquake just ripped through the middle of South Dakota. We haven’t heard anything from the National Geologic Society yet, but-’
Chills ran down my spine as I watched the news segment covering the local anomaly. A call from one of the servers at the front end of Big Fish's reminded me I had a table to finish cooking on the line. It did the job she wanted it to though, pulling my attention right back to the food on the griddle in front of me. I snapped my griddle spatulas down with a loud clang and called, “Eight minutes!”
The vision in my right eye flashed with images that didn’t match up with what my left eye was seeing.
The visions weren’t new. I’ve got a bit of an overactive imagination. Hallucinations being overlaid with reality was just par for the course. At least it was never boring, though.
Two women facing off with some kind of alien. It looked too human to be an Alien alien. Like it was something that crawled out of one of those old Area 51 conspiracy theories or maybe some kind of mutation. The three exchanged words, but I wasn’t in an environment that would facilitate auditory hallucinations to go with what I like to call my ‘built-in streaming service.’
I finished the Big Breakfast and plated everything, then deposited it on the window.
“Kaira, service please!”
Just as I was turning away from the window to return my attention to the news until my next order came in, pain exploded behind my eyes. I hit the ground like I’d been slugged in the face with a sledgehammer.
I could hear screaming, but I couldn’t see anything. It wasn’t that my eyes were closed. I’d be seeing starbursts over a black canvas. This was more like my vision was just turned off. No sensory input at all.
“Elias?” Kaira called out to me and I heard the doors to the kitchen open. I recognized the sound of sneakers skidding around on the lightly greased floor of my work area. Felt her hand on my shoulder. “Oh my god…” She sounded like she was about to be very violently ill.
I pulled my hand away from my head once I felt like the pain behind my eyes was starting to subside and turned to face my coworker. I still couldn’t see my kitchen, but I could see her sort of. More like an outline or an aura with the suggestion of a face than what I knew she actually looked like. Everything around her was just…dead space.
“Did someone get the license plate number of the truck that just hit me?” I joked. Because joking is a perfectly healthy coping mechanism when you’ve just gone functionally blind. Or so I’m told.
“Dude, your eyes.” Her aura got closer to me and I could smell her minty breath in my face. “How the fuck are you joking right now?”
“Because if I don’t, I’m probably going to lose my shit. How bad is it?”
I felt around my face to make sure everything was still where it was supposed to be.
“You look like you blew an aneurism directly into your eyes. I can’t even see your pupils. Can you see?”
I felt hands on my face as she turned my head to check it from different angles.
I thought about that question for a second before I answered. “Yes and no. I can see you, but I can’t see the restaurant.”
“The fuck? This one of your ‘vision’ things?”
That took me off guard. Was I really seeing her or was I just tricking myself into thinking I could see her? “Uhh, maybe…” I swung my arms out to blindly feel around before I tried to stand. Kaira ended up having to help me get my bearings enough to stand straight.
“Let’s sit you down for a minute and see if it passes.” She led me carefully through the kitchen and out the doors to the dining area and sat me down at the bar.
I watched her aura move away from me and over to the other gentleman in the corner booth. She must’ve been letting him know the kitchen was closed. His aura though…
The front doors burst open before I could really make sense of the aura of the guy in the corner. Two women staggered in with Kaira trying to usher them right back out again because the kitchen was closed. The taller of them had a soft green aura that made me think of elves in fantasy games. The other one’s aura looked like it didn’t know *what* it was. Both of them were chattering rapid-fire about a coyote starting the apocalypse or something.
And I thought I was the crazy one.

For the most part, its just been known bad smells (like my toddler toileting) or really strong smells (theres been painters at work and that’s been hell); but the last month it has been my husband breath too. He really hasn’t changed anything in his diet or his oral hygiene (which is good) and I genuinely don’t know if anyone else can smell it because I have been trying to not alert many people to it. I dont know if it is my pregnancy nose, or if theres actually something going on. I have spoken to him about this and we tried a couple things thinking it was maybe his reflux.
It wad today that I really thought maybe its my nose because I got iffy at the smell of an icecube tray (smelled like old freezer) and then the smell of some wet/muddy pinecones my daughter brought home was ehhh as well.. now im genuinely wondering if its him or me.
Is there anyway to know? Is there anything I can do if it is my nose? I feel awful being distant.

Just taken my QCII back, mostly because of Bluetooth issues, and exchanged for Airpod Pro 2s. Very real concern that the QCII would fail completely at some stage after the period I’d be able to get an exchange (which happened to a friend), so played it safe.
I have an iPhone 13. My family has Airpod Pros, so have been able to compare directly.
I could not tell any material differences in audio or ANC quality, in general use and on planes, although I have some tinnitus, so that may mask fine quality differences.
I don’t use wireless charging, so that wasn’t a factor for me, even though apple wins on that as well.
I REALLY wanted to love the QCII. For all my 50 years, the brand has represented the best you can get. These were the first Bose headphones I’ve had, so this has been a massive disappointment. I persisted with them far longer that I would any other audio brand.
My issues - 1. The ‘whoosh’ sound. Why? Other ANC buds don’t need it. 2. Ironically, the ‘whoosh’ sound not happening. Having to put both buds back in the case for a few seconds and try again (and, often, again.) This would happen about 25% of the time, and predominantly with the left bud, which I put in second. Not being able to work out why - was it due to time taken to put second bud in? Was it the way I was putting it in? I tried everything but never worked it out. 3. General Bluetooth unreliability. The AirPods just work, every time. QCII were hit and miss. Resetting didn’t help. 4. The ‘should I have the app, or is it causing the problems and should I delete it?’ issue. I deleted it quite early on but still had all the drama. 5. Not being able to start siri through voice alone, but having to touch the bud. 6. Much bigger case. 7. No built in ‘find my’ technology. This is useful for me, so I had to buy a QCII case with a loop and attach a tile. 8. The QCII ANC shitting itself if there was a bang (eg car door shutting)
Our family also has Huawei freebud pros, skullcandy dimes and a no-name pair from aliexpress that cost AU$3, and all of them have more reliable Bluetooth than the QCII.
Here’s the plot twist - I’m flying from Australia to UK in a couple of weeks and got a pair of QC45 for a good price not long after I got the QCII. Who knows how they will go. Thankfully, if that Bluetooth craps out I can use a cable.

So for a little background, I was a little off the walls in my lates teens, emotionally. Something wasn’t right but I was having the time of my life until my actions got me hurt. After an event that occurred my mom was in full panic mode trying to find me a psychiatrist. At this point I was in my 20s and had started seeing a psychiatrist (MD). I was diagnosed with ADHD, bipolar 2, a panic disorder, and GAD. My psychiatrist prescribed me B12, vitamin D, and slowly titrated me up on lamictal. His goal was to tackle one issue at a time. Once we got my bipolar under control, he started treating my ADHD with low dose Adderall. I was in a pretty good spot once my meds were even and I started supplements.
Fast forward a year, I had to get a new psychiatrist. I found an office that had great reviews and decided to go with them. They had openings and everything seemed great. What I didn’t know was that the practice was owned by an NP and she’s who I would be seeing. During my initial intake I explained all of my prior history and had my medical records sent over.
None of my diagnoses changed but my meds did. Within 3 months I was on (all at once):
I got a new psychiatrist (MD) who i absolutely adore. The first time she saw my med list she nearly had a heart attack. The first thing she said was “oh my no no no”. We did a 2 hour med review and discussed better med options and began the process of weening me off meds. Right now i am on lamictal, adderall, and hydroxyzine (for sleep) and there’s been a discussion of adding one new med but wants to wait until i meet with my new rheumatologist.
My new psychiatrist is huge on ruling out physical/organic causes before indulging on adding new meds. I truly believe this psych has saved my life in more than one way. I also truly believe that the NP psych could have killed me with med combos.

To be as concise as possible and to avoid wasting your time: I want to be able to use the full potential of my gaming PC and try to achieve a level of resilience I don’t have right now with RAID 5 and KVM to have multiple VMs (work, gaming with discrete graphics and network functionals)
Context: - I have background on IT, but not specific to this particular area. So I can handle any task if I have the right directions - I had a catastrophic failure a couple of weeks ago, so my former gaming+work environment was destroyed - I have a lot of spare hardware, but it is not the best and always feels like I’m cannot fulfill everything I want.
What I have in mind: - Set a KVM machine on raid 5 - Set up at least 3 VMs: work, gaming (with dedicated graphic hardware) and NAS/Plex - Maintain a backup scheme at VM level and raid level. I don’t want to experience again this much downtime
My question are…: - what is the best OS between easy to use and resilience? - consumer grade hardware can fulfill what I want (like i5 10gen, 16 ram ddr4 and 5 tb in total with a bunch of nvme and ssd attached)? - my first option was unraid because it was the the first thing to come up, it is really that bad? - the raid 5 on hdd can keep up with 3 VMs using this pool? My goal is a gaming VM as close as the actual bare bone experience. - I value my time, but I like the joy of bring everything together. See i don't know where to start, i didn't even know where to ask but here i am. So basically me (17,M) and my GF (17,F) recently got into in a relationship about 3 months ago, before that we were really close friends, and we just thought we had the same feeling towards each other so we confessed to each other and here we are. I am not a emotionally connected guy but with her i feel like i cam trully express my self thats why i took the chance and confessed. But thats not why i am here for.
So basically her mom keeps checking her phone from time to time and she once found a picture of us hugging and stuff and she confronted her and told her not to ever meet me again. Somehow we still managed to meet a couple times even though she has a lot of restriction on her. And just like the past few meets we tried to meet again since it had been long since we met each other properly. So we decided that she would ask her mother if she can go to the movies with her best friend (also 17,F) so she went on with the plan that i and the other girl's boyfriend would meet her at the theatre. But what we didn't know that her mother had been spying on us.
Well i don't know for sure but i saw a man acting all shady talking to someone through earphone while i was buying the tickets (the other had not arrived yet so i was all alone) and it looked like he was describing me, he was far away but i could hear some of it..."wearing green t shirt...yeah he is just standing there" i thought that was just me overthinking stuff. Then after thr movies we went to eat, there the other girls mom suddenly came, what more surprising is that the girl told me her mom was on her periods and was having cramps so she was in her room the whole day so she is no way coming here, well she did. And then when my gf reached home her mom confronted her saying "what do you think you are really smart, can i not have men look after you outside (which further solidified my suspicion on that shady man).
So today in the morning her mother called me and started threatning me that if i ever talked to her again she would not only tell this to my parents but take the matter to the police. She said that this could never work out as we both belong to different religion and she doesn't want me close to her daughter and then told me that if i ever tell my gf that her mom called me then also she will be taking actions against me.
I Don't know what to do, should i tell my gf about this? ...And tell her not to confront her mother about this and say a word about this, and just keep it to ourself. Or can you guys help out with another plan...i didn't wanted to ask these things here but i am desperate for answers, i have been really disturbed since the morning.

I’m (F, 30) friends with someone who is very recently going through a divorce (M, 35) whose wife left him a few months ago after less than a year of marriage. Without putting someone else’s business out there, it seemed like she met somebody else and abruptly left.
I had reached out when I heard the news to offer some support and lend an ear. I tend to be a good listener and I like to provide advice to my friends if and when I can. Since then, we have been spending a lot of time together and have gotten to know each other better and it turns out that we have so many common interests that I’m beginning to think we may almost be the same person (lol.)
He is a total gentleman and goes out of his way to do nice things for me, remembers things about me, and truthfully, spending time together feels a lot more like dating than just as friends. I don’t feel it’s appropriate to make any move romantically and he is really very chivalrous so he hasn’t done anything either. I know he is grieving and vulnerable and there is always a possibility that he and his wife will get back together (doesn’t sound like it, but who knows.) I have no interest in being a rebound, however, he is a self aware person and I don’t think that he would inflict that on me. He respects me more than that, or at least it seems that way. Furthermore, I don’t have any interest in dating someone that is legally married, even if the relationship has dissolved.
Emotionally, I want to continue spending time with this person and deepen our friendship/develop feelings. We both have aspirations, appreciate personal growth and the simple things in life. Logically, I worry about what I should do in the event he does try to get physical. I don’t want to hurt and reject someone who is already vulnerable and grieving. my emotionally abusive ex and i broke up in january but we continued to be in contact and hang out. i’m not sure if this was controlling, but i’d always say: i know you’re not bound to me so you can go hook up with people or whatever, just please tell me if you do. i don’t want to feel stupid or betrayed, and honestly just safe in a sexual aspect. i said i think im allowed to make an informed decision about if i would like to continue to be around you, dependent on if you are seeing someone or being intimate with other people. we go to a huge school so this was something very real and prominent, which i was worried about. part of me i guess did want control. but i also thought it was fair for me to know. i said the same thing about him. id tell him if i ever did anything cause he probably would not want to continue relations if i was seeing someone else. i don’t think that’s crazy. we promised eachother we would say if anything happened. we were basically still acting like dating. i would ask him very often to reiterate that he would tell me if he did anything. he always promised he would tell me and that he hadn’t yet. i was very anxious about this. it’s now jume and i found out he went on a date with a girl he met at a party and had sex with her one time. she was the same race as me and he admitted that he did this because of me. he was sad because at that time, about a month ago, i had told him i didn’t think we could get back together soon (considering all the disrespect i’ve taken). we were kinda on a break from physically seeing eachother and he didn’t talk to me much on the phone. about a week after this we were somewhat good again, he still promised he was gonna move on but hadn’t yet. he loved me, i slept over. i bought him food, would fill up his gas, we watched movies. i adored him. the school year ended and we’ve kinda talked as long distance. he admitted this whole thing to me today after i noticed his spotify following (i know crazy). also very ironic after yesterday i was telling him i always find everything out and did throughout our relationship. he had lied in the past but i never thought he’d betray me like this. i’ve been betrayed so many times by him, i’m not sure how i managed to get betrayed again when i tried so hard to protect myself from it. (by asking him to tell me if he wanted to see other people) i feel so fucked up and sad cause i’ve been only kind and loving. i never deserved this and it must be a sign from the universe.

I’m currently on spironolactone 50mg, finasteride 5mg, and estarylla(birthcontrol) The birthcontrol seems to work best on preventing new hair growth on my chin/neck/body.. and keeping the hair slightly thinner? Regardless, this is not working. I tried taking inositol, I’m assuming my pcos causes insulin resistance because I have the specific symptoms caused by that. I’ve dealt with the plucking/shaving/etc since middle school!!! I’m 24 now and every year that goes by it is only getting worse. I’ve tried the home laser product, no luck. Exercise, vitamins, diet change…..

I miss my friends, being social, I want to switch career paths, find a boyfriend or atleast feel comfortable around men again….. as much as I’d like to not care what others thought and just embrace it.. I can’t! It’s a shock to others seeing a beard on a woman, I catch people close to me that know about it staring.. they don’t mean to, but it’s an odd thing to see.. I understand.
Do I try laser? Or electrolysis? I finally got a credit card and want to use it for my hair treatment because I know it is expensive. Has this worked for anybody else? Does anybody have any other possible remedies?

Title pretty much sums it up. I’ve been a pog in the USMC Reserves for the last almost 5 years now and my contract is up in 2024. Maybe it’s just residual motivation coming out now that I know the end of the tunnel is in sight, but I’ve found myself genuinely considering re-upping as an infantryman with you fine folks.
I wanted to be an infantryman in the Marines when I first enlisted, but I admittedly wussed out and decided for a pog field instead. I was young, dumb, out of shape and very immature at the time and now as I sit, years down the line and much better and happier for it, I find myself hankering for another challenge.
I don’t regret the Marines, but a change of scenery could definitely be nice. So my question for y’all is, what’s that process looking like?
