2023.06.08 23:48 dreamingofislay Royal Lochnagar Warehouse Tasting - Final Scotland Trip 2023 Recap
| On our last day in Scotland, we found a fitting finale for our wonderful trip. Thanks to u/paulusgaming for the tipoff and amazing recap of Royal Lochnagar's warehouse tasting. Alas, the distillery upped the price a lot - to 70 quid - but, even at that cost, it's well worth it. The impressive private lounge next to our tasting room; those bottles at the back were Prima & Ultima releases, with vintage years dating back to the 1970s - Royal Lochnagar is the smallest of the 29 distilleries owned by Diageo, and it has a nice, cozy visitor center that punches well above its weight in amenities. In addition to the gift shop, there's a cafe and a dramming bar. And through a side set of doors to the bar, they have an impressive lounge and separate tasting room where we enjoyed our whiskies today. The lounge featured a stunning display with many of the recent Prima & Ultima releases, which are ultra-expensive and aged Diageo single malts.
- The warehouse tasting consisted of four pours: a 1974 Convalmore, a 1985 Mortlach, a 1986 Royal Lochnagar, and a 1993 Lagavulin (a slight lineup change from u/paulusgaming's experience). What a powerhouse set of single casks. The crazy part was that one couple on our tour inadvertantly booked it, never having done a distillery tour or experience before, and it sounded like they enjoy some scotches without being aficianados. I wonder what I'd think if some of the first scotches I tried and really tasted carefully were 30- to 50-year-old cask strength expressions. Hard to imagine.
That dreamy ex-bourbon Convalmore cask - If you visit, I hope you get Annie as a guide. She had a wonderful sense of humor and is a devoted fan of single malts herself, which is not always the case with tour or tasting guides. She had great tasting notes and could talk anyone's ear off about the food science that goes into whiskymaking, including the various chemical compounds that give whisky flavor.
- She was also honest about some whiskies in the warehouse having overshot their ideal age. As a cool treat, she let us nose anything we wanted among the 20-25 casks. One of the oldest was a 1975 cask from Glenury, a ghost distillery, which she said wasn't that good. Based on nosing alone, I agree; it smelled like permanent marker, and I was glad it wasn't part of the tasting.
- Cairngorms National Park is stunning, but the funny thing about the Scottish highlands is that it has so many picture-perfect pastoral landscapes and beguiling loch-and-ben views that you don't have to visit any specific park or famous site to be gobsmacked. Almost anywhere on our trek, I could point my camera out the car at a random moment and get a postcard picture.
- Driving around Scotland is pretty challenging as an American, not because of the left-side-of-the-road thing but instead because of how narrow and winding the ways are, and how many single-track roads we had to navigate. I'd advise future visitors not to cram too much into the itinerary because even moderate drives of two hours are more draining than one would expect.
Okay, enough chit-chat, down to business. I can't hope to match the tasting notes from u/paulusgaming's post, so these are my quick impressions. Royal Lochnagar 1986 - Older whisky isn't necessarily better, it's just rarer. That being said, in their best incarnations, older whiskies can give different notes than younger drams or more complexity. This was quite a multi-layered dram and my notes included orchard fruits, some tartness, champagne breadiness or baked goods, and a toasty, warm finish with some spice. I haven't had much Royal Lochnagar before this but, based on Annie's description, this dram seemed like a flagbearer for the distillery's light and fruit-forward character. Convalmore 1974 - OK, I just said age doesn't equate to quality, but this particular dram might have been the star of the show. In the glass, it had so much barrel char that it looked like someone had ashed a cigar in our glasses. The aroma evokes Scottish spring: a waft of gorse and wooden barrels sitting in the dunnage warehouse, balanced out by some pleasant aromas of citrus fruit and vanilla. Its waxy palate bursts with tropical fruit and oak, and then its long finish features lemon and coconut - a return to those first memories of gorse. Mortlach 1985 - I'm sensitive to a smell from many sherries and, unsurprisingly, some heavily sherried whiskies. It reminds me of cooking wine: tangy, acidic, and funky. Unfortunately for me, this Mortlach reeked of that note, so it was my least favorite of the day. That being said, it had a much more pleasant, fruitcake palate and finish. Lagavulin 1993 - I rubbed my hands together for this dram, which Annie let us pour ourselves, resulting in some heavy servings! The oldest Lagavulin we've tried, and aged in a first-fill sherry cask at that, a rarity for the distillery. Jordan almonds, caramel, and toasted rice cakes on the nose. It's burly - oily and thick - and flavors of honey and tropical fruit play off of a rich base layer of earthy peat very well. Cherries and woodsmoke on the finish. Royal Lochnagar Distillery Hand-Fill 14 y.o. - After the tasting, Annie let us try a few bottles back in the gift shop. The hand-fill is a whopping 190 pounds but a 59.1% cask-strength, refill-sherry-aged whisky. Even suffering some palate exhaustion by this point, this was a pleasure to sip, an apple orchard in a glass. Not as complex as the 1986 single cask - I know, really going out on a limb with that observation - but perhaps something I'd enjoy more consistently. Mortlach 15 "Six Kingdoms" Game of Thrones - Perhaps a little bit of an anticlimax. My understanding is that this is a very odd whisky that started in sherry casks before being finished in ex-bourbon, a reversal from the usual order. Nothing stood out about it, although nothing offended either. To be honest, after five cask-strength drams, what 46% mass-market release could make a huge impression? We're thrilled that we took this trip. After enjoying Scotland so much in 2018, we planned to come back for Feis Ile 2020. For obvious reasons, those plans fell apart, but we finally got our act together last summer to plan this belated return. Already looking forward to future visits and missing the whisky, the views, and the people. Previous recaps linked below, starting with daily travel notes from Feis Ile: Day One, Lagavulin Day Two, Bruichladdich, but we skipped and did Bunnahabhain Day Three, Caol Ila Day Four, Laphroaig Day Five, Bowmore and Ardnahoe Bonus notes from Days One through Five Day Six, Kilchoman Day Seven, Bunnahabhain Day, but we did Lagavulin and Ardbeg warehouse tastings Day Eight, Ardbeg Bonus post with my personal festival awards After that, we visited some island distilleries: Isle of Raasay Talisker and Torabhaig Slainte, and thanks for reading! submitted by dreamingofislay to Scotch [link] [comments] |
2023.06.08 23:15 Single_Purpose_717 Suspension Help for 2023 BRZ MT
I'm 19 years old and this is going to be my first car that I mod, me and my brother saved up and ended up splitting the price for the car. We've both been into cars for a long time and wanted to drop the car 2-3 Inches. Though we been into cars for a long time, this will be the first time modding a car. Wanted to ask here first so we don't encounter any major mistakes. Besides coilovers & Rear / Front sway bars what else would we need to complete the suspension set up? Any advice would be great!

2023.06.08 17:47 Slight-Blueberry-895 Stormworks wishlist
- Logic system overhaul/improvements. Current system is tedious and a pain to do, even for relatively small builds. Even just having the ability to filter out logic points that are already connected would greatly improve the system across the board, ideally an advanced filter system would be added, such as creating groups, filtering parts, etc. The need to not only use but also create microcontrollers for instrument panels feels excessive and unnecessary. Simplifying panels, or giving the option of a simplified instrument panel that does not need to use a microcontroller, would go far in decreasing the games barrier to entry.
- Built in GPS maps. The fact that this game does not have a built in GPS map, like those tom tom gps map things you see on older cars is absurd when career mode’s map doesn’t show where you are on the map. And before anyone says that it’s “realistic”, if fishing boats in the Bering Sea can have a GPS map during rough weather, I see no reason why a SAR vehicle wouldn’t have such basic equipment. The current career mode’s starter boat is kinda useless at the starting base for this reason, there aren’t many landmarks out in the ocean, and I shouldn’t have to use the workshop just to make the base boat functional.
- Radio console. A simple premade radio console with knobs and such would also be nice and simplify a decent amount of logic.
- Custom window, wedge, and pyramid dimensions and/or more of these blocks in general, and make them more customizable (ie changing the windows color to green or putting designs on wedges and pyramids)
- Small boats keep water out, don’t need a closed volume to be buoyant
- Sails
- 18th century weaponry
- Life rafts
- Emergency inflatable slides (for planes)
- Gliding
- Oars
- Premade vehicles for every basic need you have in game. There should be basic, cheap, premade cars/trucks, boats, etc that can fulfill most of everything you would need to do in game. Nothing particularly fancy, just simple builds that can easily supplanted by custom creations that can serve as references for your own builds or be stopgap measures until you build replacements.
- Search and Recovery. Unfortunately, not every SAR operation is successful. Missions about recovering remains would be nice and can add a decent bit of variety. For example, maybe a hiker found a body in a hard to reach place in the mountains, and because of that an offroad vehicle or aircraft is needed to get there, diving on a wreck to recover remains, or recovering a car from a lake. Other missions could also be diving for investigation critical components, such as black boxes or voyage data recorders, or even specific components that investigators want to find.
- More in depth rescue/injury mechanics. Stuff like sprained ankles, injuries, pregnancy status, health conditions, etc, requiring different things to heal/stabilize. This would also add a sense of urgency to each SAR mission, as now you can’t solve/delay everything by throwing a first aid kit at it. Maybe the local hospital doesn’t have the facilities to treat a time sensitive, so you have to transport the patient to a bigger hospital. Dealing with things like hyperthermia would also be nice.
- Boat materials (wood/metal/polymer)
- Amenities and furniture in general.
- Logging industry
- Fishing industry
- Debris
- Other SAR teams/companies to have a presence in the world and are able to be called upon if needed.
- Nuclear reactor disaster
- More variety and depth for SAR missions, such as an aircraft ditching in the harbor, an aircraft going missing and having to search for it, recovering lifeboats, a nuclear powered ship sinking and having to deal with the radiation, chemical tankers releasing toxic chemicals into the water, sinking an adrift vessel, stopping an illegal salvage operation etc. A cool idea would be to add in the possibility for major accidents to happen, such as a cruise ship capsizing, a nuclear powered ship sinking, or a military aircraft armed with a nuclear warhead being lost over the ocean. Another cool idea would be to add interviews with accident investigation teams after some accidents, such as when a ship sinks because of poor maintenance about what you saw. Obviously, the interviews should only occur for more major accidents and when the player could actually have relevant information. There could also be complications for missions, such as the ship still moving and unable to be stopped, the whole crew is incapacitated, etc.
- In the same vein as no 22, an overhaul of Search And Destroy as it pertains to the overworld would also be nice. Instead of simply having an AI that fights the player, how about having 2 major factions that fight each other, the local military and an invading military, with the option of creating your own faction to take over the islands. This would differ from the previous system by making it so that you would complete orders issued to you, such as patrolling a specific area, engaging a fleet, mining or demining a waterway, etc. At first, you start out doing gruntwork, but as you move up in rank the more you can do, such as sending grunts to do the gruntwork for you. You could also give the option for the player to make their own faction Another thing that could be added are pirates and pirate gameplay. SAD could also add in new missions and disasters, such as disarming mines from the second world war, serial killers, hijacking attempts, a fire at a munitions dump, etc. You can have a lot of fun in regards to disasters and special missions too, such as cleaning up a munitions dumping ground (like what the Norwegian military did, dumping thousands of tons of munitions into a river) or a sunken supply ship detonating (like that one off the coast of England) and dealing with the after effects of that.
- Hiring AI to do things for you, such as a doctor to administer medical assistance to survivors, a captain to drive a boat, SAR divers to recover people from the sea for you, etc.
- Passenger playstyle. Ferrying passengers around feels like a logical next step in the game, with factors such as reliability, how fast you can get to destinations, feats (ie having the fastest passenger ferry in the world even if it does not operate at that speed regularly or having the biggest ferry, etc), price per ticket, amenities(free or paid movie theatre, comfy seats, concession stands, is the interior a comfortable temperature, is there a barbershop and if so is it any good, etc) and necessities (do you have enough seats, is there a bathroom, do you have enough life preservers, if it’s overnight, do you have any beds etc). Options to run excursions with famous or historic ships, simple cruises/excursions to places around the islands would be nice too.
- Expansion of delivery and miner playstyles. Expansion of these playstyles, such as hiring AI to do parts of the job, either as employees or contracting out another company to, say, transport coal from your mine to the powerplant would go a long way to fleshing out these playstyles. You can even have the option to do smuggling runs of illegal or illicit goods. Smaller deliveries that can be handled with a van, or doing mail runs would be cool as well as oversized delivery missions. Increasing the variety of cargo to transport, such as transporting locomotives and/or cars for export would be cool.
- Terminal loading cranes.
- A R&D mode which would allow for quick and easy analysis of a creation where you get raw numbers on a ship’s current tilt, balance, engine performance, etc with the ability to easily change the weather and conditions of the environment and easily switch to build mode.
- Shipwrights. The idea here would be to overhaul building mechanics as it relates to career mode. Instead of being able to instantly build everything, how you can modify your vessel is limited to what your facilities can do. To get a brand-new ship, you would have to commission it from a shipwright. Before commission, you would have access to R&D mode to fully test out the vessal. Where the fun part really begins is that you can have an entire playstyle built around receiving commissions for ships by the AI (or even other players) for a desired vessel within x specifications at a cost of x amount for x amount of vessels within x timeframe with a bedroom made out of 50% windows at a height of x feet, or even upgrade/modify preexisting vessels as part of a commission or to flip on the market, buying older vessels of varying states and giving them a new lease on life. How many ships you can produce at a given time would depend on your facilities, which can be upgraded. Of course, there would be aircraft and land vehicle equivalents. You can even see the ships you produced doing their job in the world.
- Salvaging. Another playstyle that I feel would be a next step for Stormworks would be salvaging vessels either for scrap, refurbish them for resale, restoration into a museum piece, or simply to clear a waterway. You could even give the option to illegally salvage shipwrecks.
- Survey missions
- Survival suits
- Crabbing
- Flooding disaster
- Hurricane and super storm disasters
- Air conditioning
- Other ships coming to assist vessels in distress.
- Tropical islands
- Blimps, zepplins, and hot air balloons.
- Naming vehicles
- Rogue waves
- Supernatural phenomenon. My idea for this is that you would have two categories of phenomenon, explicable and inexplicable. Explicable phenomena would be phenomena that have scientific explanations for them, things such as ghost lights with scientific explanations behind them, maybe have some missions where you disprove the supernatural. Having everything be explicable, however, can be underwhelming so actual supernatural phenomena, such as fleshgaits (especially with SAR being the core theme of Stormworks), ghost ships, or alien encounters, especially if mechanics, such as SAR, are incorporated in it. Like, imagine a seemingly normal SAR mission turning out to be the rescue of aliens from a crashed spaceship and you have to transport them to a drop off point where the MiB is waiting, or a mission where you first set out to debunk the supernatural to then be assailed by the flying dutchman.
- More doors, buttons, ladders, stairs and hatches (ie: a traditional house door, car doors, glass hatches, etc)
- Panels that can be used as signs or “hatches” for otherwise external equipment (ie in order to access a fire extinguisher you have to open a hatch first, im sure there is a better word for it but I can’t think of it)
- Moonpools
- Pools
- More buildable/modifiable properties, especially for terminals. Could be expanded with the ability to flip properties.
- Races
- Competing manufacturers of equipment and engines that have varying strengths and weaknesses that improve as time goes. This would also make the game more accessible by giving new players the ability to easily access better engines while also rewarding those who learn how modular engines work by allowing them to jump ahead of the AI. Perhaps a system where you can lease or even produce your own engine designs could be implemented to further reward and encourage using modular engines.
- If the game becomes comprehensive enough, the ability to change which era you play in (1700s, 1800s, 1940s, etc) would be a really cool addition by adding in technological challenges of older eras. Additionally, there could be supernatural phenomena that isekai vehicles to and from different time periods, which could add in a whole variety of interesting missions and challenges.
- Built-in couplers for trains
- Wind having an effect on the player (exiting an aircraft and standing on its wing should result in you being yeeted off the aircraft)
- Pressurization
- Ingame tutorials like what From The Depths has
- A better openworld, NPCs, and RP experiences. The world of Stormworks feels very much dead, which is a shame because that is it’s biggest selling point for me over other building games like simple planes. It gives a reason for all the vehicles being built beyond simply being cool, you can actually DO things with it. I would recommend solving this by:
- Create actual population centers. Not huge cities, but small towns dotted across the islands with actual businesses and populations would go a long way to improving the game world, maybe have one or two cities on the island itself so we can do stuff with skyscrapers.
- Global traffic of personal, commercial, and government boats, aircrafts and land vehicles would go a long way to making the world feel less empty. Having npcs use a dedicated radio channel for chatter, and which you can interact with them through would be great. This traffic responds to ingame events, for example increased outgoing road traffic when a disaster is about to hit
- More realistic roads
- Navigation signs, buoys, etc
- NPCs operating gas stations, bridges, and industries in general.
- Relating to one, make NPCs not only interactable beyond being glorified money bags, but also interact with their environment. Such as trying to move away from fires, calling for help when they see a vehicle, moving towards a stopped SAR vehicle and climbing aboard, getting inside a vehicle of their own volition or swimming to shore when they are literally meters away instead of staying in the water and/or burning boat. Having NPCs interact with the player as well would also be great, such as thanking you for saving their lives, buying the player a beer as thanks if they meet in a bar, etc would be nice. Ideally, there would be a number of persistent npcs who have names, personalities and backstories. Such as Joe, an old sea captain who’s vessel is painted pink in memory of his 6 year old daughter who disappeared, and, if he thinks his vessel is about to sink, will desire to go down with the ship and be resistant to his personal rescue.
- Consequences for your actions visible in game. For example, if a casualty becomes a fatality, there is a funeral service held at the graveyard.
- NPCs having varying fluencies in English
- Missions with storylines attached to them, such as an archaeologist searching for Atlantis, or a group of sailors looking to raise the cargo ship they worked on after it sunk.
- Radio music channels
- TV channels, can also have a gameplay effect through amenities
- Newspaper with an obituary, some fluff news stories, generic articles, state of the economy, ships launched, details regarding the SAR missions you did or didn’t do, in game events, etc.
- Unmarked missions, for example lets say Captain Joe’s ship sinks, but Joe survives. Joe is depressed, but if you go out of your way to salvage and repair Joe’s ship and give it back to him he will be happy.
- NPC backstories being more then just a text in a box, perhaps a mission leads to you finding Captain Joe’s daughter, alive or dead leading to either a heart warming reunion or somber closure.
- News interviews
- Points of interest, such as abandoned buildings, natural wonders, historical locations, museums, heritage railroads, businesses etc with lore surrounding them and special missions for that location. For example, lets say there is a hot air balloon tour operation. There would be a few special missions pertaining to hot air balloons in that location. Or for the heritage railroad, their engineer called in sick so they need someone to fill in for the day.
- Flavor for missions, for example maybe a family of four reported in the burning boat and watch you put out the fires
- NPCs react like real people in the sense of physiological reactions, such as grieving, becoming frozen in shock, mental breakdowns etc.
- All disasters have effects (when applicable) in the overworld, such as destroyed homes, ships transported inland, etc. Having missions pertaining to the aftermath, such as removing large debris from roads and tracks to recovering missing persons.
- Visual deterioration of abandoned/sunk/crashed vehicles
- NPCs may try to take advantage of disasters, such as by robbing people on a sinking ship, looting buildings after a disaster, etc
- NPCs may panic and act irrationally when in a disaster, such as taking life jackets away from women and children, releasing lifeboats/liferafts early, etc
- Skills and attributes, such as consoling, leadership, physical fitness, bartering, etc
That’s my wishlist for now. I know it’s a lot, and some of it may seem to be a bit much, but I don’t think any single thing is out of the realm of reasonable possibility. The biggest appeal of Stormworks, at least to me, over competitors such as Simpleplanes is that there is a purpose behind what you build. I think that if Stormworks were to expand on RPG elements it would not only greatly elevate the game as is, but also expand the audience while enhancing the core experience.

2023.06.08 15:50 Moist-Implement-600 White knuckle thrill rides and smooth sailin'
First, I love this community.
Second, there's really no point to this. I just wanted to share since the girlfriend doesn't quite get it and my dogs have no idea what I'm talking about.
I bought this game because it looked like fun, was immediately overwhelmed, and went back to World of Warcraft. I started visiting this sub and watched some misadventures, checked out some amazing builds, and got a better feel for what to do beyond panicking over greydwarves.
Last week, I decided to establish a permanent base and got to planning. I made sure to add some components I saw commonly used in this sub. I found (on foot) a nice, relatively flat area in the meadows, near both a black forest and mountain biome (I know the mountains are far off but the scenery in the background will be amazing once i knock down some trees). Even better, I was a quick 15 second run to the ocean.
I returned to my prior base to load up the karve with the essentials and set sail to establish my new domain. To my absolute delight, I found the body of water near the new location was a large, natural harbor. Internally squeeling at the potential for a future project, I hop off and start unloading.
A small house goes up, some torches thrown around, I map out the potential I see for the future Fort Cowabunga. Too excited, I jump between clearing nearby forests for wood and digging a moat. The moat gets deep enough, relieved I had just enough wood to build stairs to get out (another lesson learned). I look at my progress. The ground isnt entirely flat. My moat isn't entirely even. Rocks and stumps surrounding the moat that will need to be cleared for a future road system. But it is mine, and I will farm it and I will protect it.
A new, 5x7 tile house goes up, fire place is almost in working order, the roof is 30% done and the forest starts moving, in the rain. I yank out my bow and watch as greydwarves and a brute slip into my moat, a great success. Cackling, I make it rain sweet sweet arrows, I feel untouchable. The raid ends, the sun comes out, and I build my fence, two bridges to the base with fancy double door entrances. Feeling accomplished without realizing the true success of the night.
Back to the ore grind, I zip over to the black forest. Boom, biggest copper vein I've ever seen. Even better, a burial chamber about 50 yards north. Clear the chamber like I'm evicting some squatters, I find the last 2 surtling cores I need to have a kiln AND smelter. More treasure, about 34 golden mushrooms.
Back to the copper, I get swinging. 34 ore in my pack and it's too much so I throw my first cart together. It eventually has about 53 copper and 8 tin ores in it. Thinking it's time to log, I start heading back and decide to load up on some core wood. As I'm chopping, a troll pokes his nose out at me and I decide to test the base.
I grab the cart and start kiting the big blue baby back home. I lost a single set of steps leading to a bridge at my main entrance as i kill my 3rd troll of my valheim career. Also ending what is now the most fruitful resource collecting excursion I have ever had, by a lot.
Kiln and smelter go up, get fully loaded and i pause for a good five to ten minutes, walking through my new impenetrable fortress. Just as I'm about to log off, I pick up some copper bars and walk to the chest near my forge. As it opens, I see the 3 queen bees I brought from the old base.
I close the game, turn off my PC, and look to the dog laying next to me. "Sullyboy!" I say, "pupaw's making mead soon!" Unimpressed, he saunters off to bed. I get in bed, everyone's asleep, and all I can think about is mead brewing while I build myself a dock in the days to come.

2023.06.08 15:23 MarbleNet "Glorious Gala" Value Breakdown
Goodness, dove! It has simply been too long, hasn't it? And don't you look simply radiant this evening! Who are you wearing? Oh, Izzy Fabulous? Ah, that explains why it's so...
avant garde.
Oh look, it's Nancy and Malcolm Landgraab. I hear they only ever wear
Plumb & Bob. And there's Venessa Jeong. I do believe I saw her gown in Paisley's spring collection. Don't look so surprised, dear. I have an appraiser's eye, after all. But there seem to be a good number of fashion houses sponsoring this evening. I do hope the Gala raises enough funds, otherwise...
All right, you didn't hear it from me, but I hear there's talk that they may be selling the manor. They've even sold off most of the collection! But there's still some value to it, namely many vintage gold-work that you won't be able to buy anywhere else.
How much is it selling for? Well...
Housing Market Currently, the "Glorious Gala" house retails for £19.99. To put that into perspective, this costs almost the same as purchasing
both the fully furnished Eco Retreat and 74 Summer Lagoon. So, effectively this lot is promising the quality and value of both an exclusive jungle retreat and a gorgeous private island, yes? Particularly when it so proudly touts that it is "8× Value!"
PROPERTY | SIMCASH | LEGAL TENDER | CONSTRUCTION | FURNISHING |
Eco Retreat (Lot) | N/A | £7.99 | Ṩ28,000 and Ͼ226 | Ͼ224 worth of furniture. 10 Unique Exclusive Items/20 Exclusive Items in Total. Two items unique to this template. |
74 Summer Lagoon (Lot) | N/A | £11.99 | Ṩ109,250 | Ͼ60 worth of furniture. 34 Unique Exclusive Items/83 Exclusive Items in Total. |

Glorious Gala (Template) | Ͼ3,200 (Repurchase) | £19.99 | ??? | ??? |
Note: Ͼ4,000
≈ £44.99. The cost of Jeong Manor was also exorbitantly inflated one put into the catalogue.
CONSTRUCTION VALUE 12 Rooms and one balcony: Ṩ 65,250 (This is the MAXIMUM value, since the template only gives you enough rooms to complete the build. For example, if you already own 4 rooms on the lot, the template uses the four rooms you own.)
(I will update later with the flooring. Off the top of my head, I know the "ballroom" floor is from the
Celebrity Life Simfest. It will also be unlocked with the purchase of Jeong Manor. The previously glitched wallpaper that appeared in the building menu has since been removed and is now exclusive to the purchase of this lot.)
LAND EXPANSION Size: 20×25
If placed on a lot with only 20×20 land unlocked, this will clear 5 squares - Ṩ10,500.

But you didn't hear it from me. Unless you do want to purchase it, in which case you DID hear it from me. I have a business to run, after all!
Ok, so real talk. I've actually been working on a Museum of my own for a while now, and the idea of a Met Gala themed lot definitely piqued my interest. Unfortunately, I really think that the few unique items don't justify the purchase of this house. The new items don't even have unique interactions. They could have taken the "Strike a sassy pose" interaction from the Ticket to Fame Runway and put it on the new red carpet item (which is strangely not listed among the items list.) In fact, the only item with a unique interaction on this entire lot is Mr. Shambly. I'm also wary about the supposed "Outdoor Staircase." It really just looks like two Royal Descent Stairs that were glitched together. It's a tad bit suspicious that it also isn't listed alongside the other items in the lot. Personally, they should have taken the new items and put them in a pack. Overall, I'm pretty leery now of lot exclusive items. I have purchased lots in the past and several items have gone missing. This is pretty par for the course (items go missing from inventories all the time,) but if there's no way to get it back/repurchase the items in game, then there's no real motivation for me to purchase a heavily bugged product with poor customer service. Rachybop also mentioned in her video that she immediately clocked the floating cabinet in the preview images, was told that they were not floating, and proceeded to report it again when she had access to the demo. Yet, quelle surprise! They remain aloft! And unlike Claude Castle, we can't make any charming jokes about haunted cabinets. Truly baffling. There isn't much positive to say about it. The past pack items are nice, but overall the layout is pretty abysmal and definitely doesn't feel like it was inspired by the Met Gala or even the Met in general. submitted by

2023.06.08 14:54 Ok_Present_8373 SEVENTEEN Once Again Making History, All While Carrying in the Boygroup Department 🥳👏
The last time Seventeen made history, they were the idol group who had THE MOST pre-ordered sales for an album, AND also the idol group who had THE MOST 1st week sales for an album. Unfortunately both those titles were later taken over by Stray Kids (congratulations to them 🥳). But now, Seventeen made history once more, and now holds the title for the Korean artist with the best selling album in South Korean History. In other words, it was announced yesterday by the Korean Sales Twitter account that ‘FML’ by SEVENTEEN has now surpassed 5.2 Million copies sold on Circle Chart and now holds the record for the artist with the BEST SELLING album in South Korean HISTORY! With about 5.24 Million Sales.
Now when it comes to carrying in the boygroup department. It’s clear that the only boygroups who are capable of competing against the digimons of girl groups in charts currently, are indeed Seventeen (& BSS). As I am typing this right now, ‘Fighting’ is still the most streamed 2023 release song on MelOn and is still sitting in the Top20 on the daily chart. The song is also the 2nd longest charting male idol group song on the Top10 of MelOn’s Top100, only being 2nd to BigBang’s ‘Still Life’ all while ‘Super’ by SEVENTEEN is currently in 6th place.
Both ‘Fighting’ and ‘Super’ are also in the Top5 for Idol Boy Group Digital points on Circle Chart. With the only other bgs being NCT Dream’s ‘Candy’ and BTS ‘Dynamite’ and ‘Spring Day’ (which, just a heads-up this part of MelOn was introduced back in 2021, so it’s pretty recent, because we all know how strong Dynamite and even Spring Day are 😅). In addition, SEVENTEEN still currently holds the 1st spot for the BIGGEST 2023 Album Debuts By a K-pop Artists On MelOn (1st DAY) in with ‘FML’ in 2023, and ‘Super’ is currently still in the Top10 of MelOn’s daily chart.
- [ACHIEVEMENTS in Japan] -
And it’s really not just in South Korea they are exceeding their expectations. From what I have seen/heard when t comes to their charting in Japan…‘FML’ is still ranked at the top #1 spot of Billboard Japan’s ‘Hot Albums’ chart. While Seventeen’s ‘Super’ debuted and is also currently in the Top10 (#7) for Billboard Japan’s ‘Hot 100’ for songs, and now holds the record for being Seventeen’s longest charting non-Japanese song, beating out Darl+ing.
- [ACHIEVEMENTS in China] -
In China, Seventeen Minghao’s is ranked 3rd (with over 456k) in the list for THE MOST C-Bars for Pre-Orders in this DECADE!, only being behind BP’s Jisoo (683k), and Aespa’s Karina (476k). While Seventeen overall are in the Top5 (#5) for the Top albums of this week in China. Also ‘Super’ being in the Top5 MVs (Rank 4), while (G)I-DLE ‘Queencard’ is in 3rd place, and I believe they are the only 2 Kpop idol groups whose mvs are in top5.
When it comes to Western achievements, they are definitely still killing it there as well. For one, SEVENTEEN Hit No. 1 on the Artist 100 Chart for Billboard, becoming the 7th Kpop Group to ever hit #1. ‘FML’ debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart, and also debuted at #44 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart (I’m Canadian so this is very cool to hear 🥹) becoming SVT’s highest entry since Attacca. Meanwhile, ‘Super’ debuted at #15 on World Digital Song Sales Chart, and also debuted at #38 on the Apple Music Global Top100 chart. It also re-entered Apple Music Global chart and was sitting at #51! And currently, SEVENTEEN remains as the ONLY Korean Male Act to chart multiple songs simultaneously on that chart this year (2023).
Anyways, seeing all of these achievements and rankings in different part of the worlds, is truly amazing. I will never get tired from being amazed at such growth Seventeen is still able to reach, despite being a seasoned group in the industry. Most people would want to go towards the new and shiny thing, but then here is Seventeen. Still attracting new fans to the point that Pledis/Hybe has now decided to re-release & stock ALL of Seventeens old albums, from their debut album ‘17 CARAT’ all the way to ‘Director’s Cut.’ It definitely shows that Seventeen is still in demand and I for one am happy to be witnessing all of this as a long time Carat. Seriously! This is amazing 🥹.
[EDIT] - Just a heads up, most of these achievements are for 2023, except for the ‘FML’ Album sales part.
[EDIT #2] - I made some edits and included some information to clarify some things. Hope that’s okay? 🙏

Respite/Retirement
The
Respite/Retirement (R&R) List is a collection of bands that are prohibited from being posted. Retirement are bands that will NEVER be posted here again and respite are bands taking a break that have a chance for random parole. It was previously called the Blacklist but we are updating the name and giving it a fun mechanic. Discussion of these bands are always welcome in the proper channels. Every quarter, the users get a democratic say in suggesting bands for retirement. Every two quarters (March / September), two bands are randomly paroled from the Respite list.
Why We Are Doing This
We feel this community of regulars does a decent job at self regulating

metal is sizable sub and I believe it has an identity made up of its regulars. Because of that, we want give our some agency to people who visit
metal frequently. Now some will say this isn't fair to lurkers and non regulars but there is not real way to please people who do not participate.
Why Do We Need This
I feel we have moved past the point of questioning the need for a prohibitive list. The lawless wasteland of the sub can be seen in other subs and the need for regulation has lead to other things including half of the regular threads and underground Friday. With that said, there is always an option of
No Changes to either list each quarter.
What Will Happen
Whatever goes on here will be brought up in the Quarterly Mod dinner at The Sizzler. Over Spaghetti Tacos, us mods will discuss additions and announce them tomorrow. We will consider suggestions here but ultimately, us mods will have final say before our third trip to the salad bar.
Also please provide links to said problem rather than a popular band you dislike. Some removals will not show up on searches but we will be aware of them.

2023.06.08 13:58 ape_hus The Only Living US Mass School Shooter Who Is Not Incarcerated
Today, we're diving into a chilling chapter of American history that shook a small town to its core. Grab a seat and buckle up because we're about to explore the haunting events surrounding the 1998 Westside Middle School shooting and how one of the perpetrators remains the only living American mass school shooter who is not incarcerated.
Before I get into this, I have a small favour to ask. This write up took a lot of time to research and is actually a script for my latest video. I was told by a someone to post it on reddit, and I would hugely appreciate it if you watched the video version instead. If you do not want to, or prefer reading, if you would you just like the video instead, so I know that people are enjoying my content. (Channel link is in bio) Okay, that is enough talk for now. Time to get right into it.
March 24, 1998, Jonesboro, Arkansas. A sleepy town nestled in the heart of the Bible Belt, known for its close-knit community and traditional values. But on that fateful day, darkness pierced the tranquillity, leaving an indelible mark on the town's history. Two young individuals, 13-year-old Mitchell Johnson and 11-year-old Andrew Golden, armed themselves and set in motion a plan that would unleash unimaginable horror. Their actions would forever alter the lives of those in their path. As the sun set on that grim night, a plan fuelled by darkness and malice was set into motion. Andrew Golden and Mitchell Johnson, armed with a disturbing arsenal of stolen weapons, loaded their mother's Dodge Caravan with camping supplies, snacks, and a chilling stash of firepower.
On the morning of March 24, 1998, the stage was set for the unimaginable. Deliberately missing their bus, the boys arrived late at Westside Middle School, concealed within the van. Moments later, chaos was unleashed. Pulling the fire alarm during fifth period, Andrew Golden ignited panic throughout the school. While his accomplice, Mitchell Johnson, seized the opportunity and disappeared into the nearby woods with the stolen weapons. As students and teachers streamed out of the school, confusion reigned. The initial moments were fraught with disbelief and uncertainty. The sound of gunfire pierced the air, shattering the innocence of that ordinary day. The horror unfolded as the boys opened fire on their unsuspecting classmates and educators. Reports emerged of desperate cries for help, mingling with the echoes of gunshots.
Amidst the chaos, acts of courage and selflessness emerged. Teacher Shannon Wright fearlessly shielded a wounded student with her own body, embodying the spirit of protection and sacrifice. Other students bravely guided their injured peers back inside the school's gymnasium, even as bullets ricocheted off the walls and bricks around them. Tragically, the lives of four students and one heroic teacher were senselessly cut short. Shannon Wright, Stephanie Johnson (no relation to Mitchell Johnson), Natalie Brooks, Paige Ann Herring, and Brittney Varner—each name a stark reminder of the human toll exacted by this heinous act. In the wake of the carnage, as the wounded fought for survival, the authorities moved swiftly.
Within a mere ten minutes, the police apprehended Golden and Johnson, preventing their escape and securing the van loaded with chilling evidence. The scale of the devastation became apparent—nine students and one teacher wounded, their lives forever marked by physical and emotional scars. Among them was Tristan McGowan, Andrew Golden's own cousin, a stark reminder of the tangled webs woven by tragedy. As the dust settled on the harrowing events of the Westside Middle School shooting, the legal system sought justice for the lives lost and shattered. Mitchell Johnson and Andrew Golden, among the youngest individuals ever charged with murder in the United States, faced a trial that would determine their fate.
During the trial, Johnson, with a heavy heart, expressed remorse and read a letter of apology to the families of the victims. He claimed that he had not intended to target anyone specifically, offering a glimpse into the complexities of his troubled mind. While awaiting trial, Johnson also penned a letter that revealed his deep sadness and offered prayers for the victims and their families. It conveyed a desire for people to someday know the "real" Mitchell, hinting at the layers of a troubled young soul hidden beneath the surface. Due to their age, Johnson and Golden were tried as juveniles. Found guilty of five counts of murder, they were sentenced to confinement until they reached the age of 21, the maximum sentence allowed by Arkansas law at the time. The severity of their actions prompted public outcry, with many calling for harsher penalties for juvenile offenders. Prosecutors acknowledged that, if not for their age, they would have sought the death penalty. However, the limitations of the law meant that the punishment did not align with the gravity of the crime.
Johnson and Golden were transferred to the Arkansas Juvenile Assessment & Treatment Center (AJATC), the state's most secure juvenile facility. There, they would serve their sentences, awaiting the day when they would be released back into society. August 11, 2005, marked Mitchell Johnson's 21st birthday—the day he was released from the Federal Correctional Institution in Memphis, after spending seven years behind bars. Andrew Golden, too, celebrated his 21st birthday on May 25, 2007, regaining his freedom after serving nine years in prison. Their release stirred debate, reigniting discussions about the appropriate sentencing and rehabilitation of juvenile offenders. The haunting question of whether their confinement truly served justice continues to linger.
Andrew Golden, the perpetrator of a tragic school shooting, lived a secretive life after his release from prison. He applied for a concealed weapon permit under a false name but was denied due to his criminal history. He resided in Missouri and attended college, but his exact whereabouts remain unknown. On July 27, 2019, Andrew Douglas Golden met an untimely demise. As he traveled along U.S. Route 167 in Independence County, Arkansas, a devastating collision occurred. A 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe veered out of its lane, crashing head-on into Golden's 2017 Honda CRV. The collision claimed the lives of both Golden and the driver of the Chevrolet, Daniel Petty of Essex, Missouri. Meanwhile, Golden's wife, another adult, and his son sustained injuries and were transported to hospitals in Little Rock and Batesville. At the time of his tragic death, Golden was residing in Jackson, Missouri, leaving behind a legacy entwined with pain and the profound consequences of his past actions.
Mitchell Johnson, once entangled in the devastating Westside Middle School shooting, found himself mired in legal troubles in the years that followed. A series of incidents painted a troubling picture of a life marred by criminal behavior and addiction. It all began on January 1, 2007, when Johnson was arrested during a routine traffic stop in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The authorities discovered a loaded pistol and 21.2 grams of marijuana in his possession. Johnson, accompanied by the driver Justin Trammell, who himself had a dark past, was taken into custody. Johnson's subsequent legal journey unfolded with twists and turns. He was indicted by a federal grand jury in October 2007 for possessing a firearm while using or addicted to a controlled substance. Despite maintaining his innocence, Johnson was found guilty after a trial in January 2008. However, legal troubles continued to plague him. In a disheartening turn of events, just days after his conviction, Johnson was arrested again, this time for possession of marijuana and suspicion of using a stolen credit card. The pattern of illegal behavior persisted, casting a shadow over any hope of redemption. In September 2008, Johnson faced sentencing for the weapon and drug charges. US District Judge Jimm Larry Hendren expressed disappointment, remarking that Johnson had squandered the opportunity to reform. Johnson received a four-year prison sentence.
However, Johnson's legal woes were far from over. On October 7, 2008, he pleaded guilty to a felony theft charge and misdemeanor possession of marijuana, admitting to stealing a debit card and using it to purchase a meal at a local Burger King. As a result, he received an additional sentence of 12 years. The legal system continued to render judgment upon Johnson. In January 2009, he was sentenced to six more years in prison for charges of theft by receiving and financial identity fraud, stemming from his use of the stolen card. Circuit Judge William Storey expressed hope that this would mark the end of Johnson's criminal path. The combined state sentences amounted to a total of 18 years for Johnson. However, his journey through the justice system was not yet complete. In February 2010, the Arkansas Supreme Court granted Johnson leave to appeal his sentence, asserting that evidence of his juvenile convictions should not have been admitted during the trial.
Ultimately, Johnson served his federal sentence of four years after completing his 18-year state sentence. In July 2015, he was released into the custody of the United States Probation Office for the Southern District of Texas, where he entered a drug rehabilitation program, according to reports. Mitchell Johnson's troubled journey after the Westside Middle School shooting has left an indelible mark on his life and the lives of others. Today, he stands as the only living American mass school shooter who is not incarcerated, a fact that raises profound questions about justice and the complexities of our legal system. After serving his time for the tragic events of 1998, Johnson's life took a dark and troubling turn. His subsequent encounters with the law, including weapon possession, drug charges, theft, and identity fraud, painted a picture of ongoing struggles and repeated run-ins with the justice system.
The fact that Mitchell Johnson remains free, while other perpetrators of similar acts are incarcerated, raises challenging ethical and legal debates. It shines a spotlight on the complexities of rehabilitation, punishment, and society's expectations for justice. The case of Mitchell Johnson serves as a sombre reminder of the lasting impact of mass school shootings. It prompts us to reflect on the profound responsibility we bear as a society to prevent such tragedies and to support those affected by them. The legacy of the Westside Middle School shooting will forever haunt the community and the families affected by it. It serves as a constant reminder that we must remain vigilant in our efforts to foster a safer, more compassionate world.

Heat shimmered off the pavement in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. The tiny town nestled between the desert hills of the Southwest felt like a kiln, and Rory Regan was baking. “Remind me again--” He huffed between words, “--why are we walking?”
“If Destruction wanted to be found, the Lords of Chaos would’ve done it already. If Destruction is here, he’d pick up on a teleport before we stepped through and I don’t want us burning our only lead.” Traci said, adjusting her black sunhat to wipe beads of sweat from her forehead.
“It could be worse.” Sherry said with an encouraging smile. “It’s a dry heat.”
“I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I miss Gotham.” Rory looked around at the rest of the Shadowpact for a similar discomfort. His sweat was making the rags cling to his skin. “Jim. How are you not sweating? You must be wearing fifty pounds of metal.”
Jim shrugged. “Magic.”
“Of course.” Rory groaned. “Ruin?”
Ruin quirked an eyebrow and planted their feet. They’d been walking around in their signature trench coat for miles and not lost the spring in their step. They curiously pulled a finger along their forearm. “I don’t think I sweat.”
“And I guess you have some magical charm that makes you resistant to heat, Traci?”
“Yeah. It’s called being raised in Nevada.” She snorted. “Hey, Ruin. We need to keep--” Her gaze drifted up to the quaint wooden building they’d chosen to stop. A woodburnt sign hanging above the door read ‘Tumbleweed Saloon & Inn.’ She smiled. “Rory, good news. We’re here.”
Sherry looked over the saloon. Where the others had picked up sand and sweat on the long trek over, she didn’t have a hair out of place. Sherry looked like she’d stepped out of an advertisement. Her only sign of wear was the suspicion sitting behind her eyes. “You really think Destruction is here?”
“I’m not getting my hopes up.” Traci said. “The Lords of Chaos only felt a twinge, but it’s all we’ve got.”
Rory shot through the swinging saloon doors with a speed he’d lost 10 miles earlier. Ruin was just behind him, their pure black eyes pulling in every detail. Half of the space was devoted to racks and shelves of Old West merchandise; cheap hats, plastic guns, and sheriff badges. The other side of the establishment was a small bar and a few tables. The bartender wiped the bored expression from his face as the Shadowpact entered.
“We’re in a real Wild West saloon!” Ruin hurried into the merchandise section.
“Welcome to the Tumbleweed Saloon. What brings you folks into town?” The bartender said.
“I’m looking for a guy, big-looking, probably. Have you seen anyone like that? He might’ve broken something.” Traci said. She wished she had more to go off.
“We get a lot of tourists.” The man raised an eyebrow. “Wait, are you from the Justice Legion? When are you going to send those people from other universes back home? Did you catch the guy responsible yet?”
Traci exhaled sharply. “We’re here about his brother, actually.”
The clatter of hoofbeats on asphalt clicked outside, followed by the heavy footfalls of someone dropping from a horse.
“Do you get many riders out here?” Jim asked. The bartender shook his head and Jim moved a hand to his sword’s pommel. The rider walked to the saloon door. The figure was in shining white leather boots and pants to match. The peak of a stetson of the same color poked out above the saloon doors.
“I know where to find the man you’re looking for.” The doors swung open to reveal the sheet-pale face of White Stag. The only spot of color was a turquoise bolo tie around his neck and the gold-inlay guard of the rapier at his side. His opaque glasses reflected the light. Jim leapt to his feet and pulled the Sword of Night from its sheath with a metallic shtang. White Stag just raised his hands apprehensively. “While you’ve correctly surmised I am interested a rematch, Jim, I think I’d better explain myself first.”
Jim glanced at Traci, who gave him a nod. Jim lowered his sword but kept it unsheathed. “Talk.” Jim spat.
White Stag reached into his buttoned vest and pulled a cigar, then a lighter. He flicked a few times, then held the flame to the cigar’s tip. Once lit, White Stag took a deep drag and blew a ring of smoke in front of his face. “I am here for a duel with the Destroyer of Myrrha.”
"Myrrha's not destroyed!" Jim gripped the handle of the Sword of Night. "I've been locked off from it. I will find a way back!"
"No.” White Stag walked over to the bar and took a seat. He didn’t bother turning around to address Jim. “No, it's not been destroyed yet. But it's Destruction you're after, and you'll find the Endless on the road you take to meet them. Miss Witch would know about that. How well do you sleep at night, Traci?"
The answer was an uncomfortable silence. “How do we know you’re telling the truth?” Rory said.
“I knew to come here, didn’t I?”
“So after I defeat you in this duel, you’ll tell us where to find Destruction?” Jim said.
White Stag gave a thin-lipped smile. “After the duel, I’ll tell you where he is.”
“You tricked us last time. What’s the trick this time?” Jim said.
“The trick? I’m faster than you, Jim. That’s all I need to win. Blades at dawn, at the old train tracks.”
“At dawn?” Jim shook his head. “We fight now. We don’t have time to waste.”
“Where’s your flair for the dramatic, Jim? Let’s let the tension build for a few hours more. It’s not like you’re in a position to dictate terms.” White Stag stood from the bar.
“I don’t know who you are.” Sherry said. “But this sounds like a big misunderstanding. We’re trying to help people.”
“Who I am? I’m the good guy, Sheridan. And you’re the latest person to sign onto the Shadowpact, which must mean you’re trying to help yourself.” White Stag looked at Jim. “Blades. Dawn. Don’t be late.” He walked through the saloon doors and saddled up his horse while the Shadowpact watched in silence.
He’d only been gone a few seconds when Rory said. “Why not fight him now? Force him to tell us what he knows.”
Jim shook his head. “We need to play his games. He knows more than he’s letting on. And he knows about Myrrha.” A hint of desperation crept into his voice. “He could be holding all of Myrrha hostage, for all we know.”
“Myrrha? I’m unfamiliar with this realm.” Sherry said.
Jim rolled his shoulders back, staring down at the ground. “When I was twelve, I went into the back room of a record store and ended up in a medieval world full of adventure and magic. Years later, I mastered the Sword of Night and started using it to move between realities. Last year, I went to sleep in Myrrha and woke up on Earth. I haven’t been able to return there since. I hate to think what could have happened to it without its protector.”
The display racks rattled and Rory raised his fists on instinct. The rags crawled along his body, ready to strike. It was Ruin rushing out of the merchandise section, covered in cowboy gear. A pair of embossed brown leather boots replaced their usual black strap-ups. They wore a ten-gallon hat and held a cheap revolver toy in each hand. “This town ain’t big enough for the six of us!” They said in their best kitsch Western accent.
A hard glance from Jim sent Ruin withdrawing back into the gift shop, holstering their ‘weapons’. Traci spoke quietly. “Why don’t I get us all rooms for tonight. We can rest and be refreshed in the morning.” She looked up at the bartender. He was still trembling from the standoff moments ago. “Six rooms, please.”
A few hours later, Traci was doomscrolling the front page of KordConnect for articles on the Reawakening. A knock at the door pulled her out of it. “Be right there, just-- uh-- meditating!” She hopped off her bed and walked to the door.
“It’s Rory!”
Traci opened the door. He was uncostumed. His sympathetic face was incongruous with the harsh features of the suit of rags. “Hey, Traci. Can I come in?”
“What’s up?” She stood aside and Rory sat on the bed. “It seemed like what White Stag said affected you.”
“That’s what you’re here for? You don’t have to worry about someone hurting my feelings.” She laughed.
Rory relaxed his posture. “Well, I’m glad, but it’s okay if you’re hurting. That… stuff with Dream. You did what you had to. I miss John too.”
Traci’s grin drooped and she let herself fall back onto the bed. She paused, then: “Dream made me an offer. Become his warlock, like Darhk was.”
“His-- his warlock? Like work for him? What are you going to say?”
“I turned him down. There’s always, always some all-powerful asshole fucking with me and my friends. HIVE, Neron, Darhk, Dream. Dream’s just as responsible for what John… became. And if becoming Dream’s warlock means I end up like Damien Darhk, then I just-- ugh!” She grunted, trailing off.
“But, knowing you, you’re wondering if you could beat the Heavenly Host if you said yes.”
“Not just them.” Traci sat up. “Bring Jim to Myrrha. Fix the Reawakening. Actually set up some magical safety nets that I haven’t jury-rigged from lamb’s spit and a spell I found on Quora. Y’know, all of it.”
Rory turned to her and put his hand on her shoulder. “Traci, you’re the best spellcaster I’ve ever met. You literally saved the universe and you’re still doing more. We’re going to win, and we’re going to do it with or without Dream, OK?”
A cool morning held out against the stinging New Mexico heat, the sun not yet peaked over the hills surrounding Truth or Consequences. Jim walked at the head of the Shadowpact. He saw White Stag and his horse for a mile on the approach. It was a huge thing, its coat the same brilliant white sheen as the rest of Stag’s possessions. It’d been hitched up to a railway spike.
Ruin remained in their store-bought cowboy ensemble. The group were all still a minute’s walk from White Stag when Ruin called out, “Why are you doing this?” They hurried forward, breaking into a jog past the group, despite Jim’s protests.
Traci readied a spell, just in case. “You said you’re the good guy. Jim’s not perfect, but he’s good too. You don’t have to fight.” Ruin looked different that morning in a way that was hard to place. Their silhouette was fuzzy. At a glance, they looked vague and undefined, as though it took a few seconds for them to render in view. It didn’t seem to slow them down any, though at times they seemed to wince to themself
White Stag shook his head. “There comes a time in every man’s life when he has to fight.” His voice took on a bit of twang at odds with his usual refined accent.
“But why Nightmaster?”
“Every day Jim wakes up in this world, he hates it a little more. He hates the toil, the uncertainty. Mostly, he hates that here, he’s not the best. He’s a middling swordsman and a below average hero on Earth.”
Jim said nothing, staring daggers.
“And that’s why I want my duel. You don’t belong in these parts, Jim.”
“You’re a madman.” Jim said. “Playing with the lives of innocents in these stupid games.” He approached, grinding his feet into the gravel to keep from lashing out in rage.
“Playing?” White Stag’s faux accent dropped. “‘Well, I suppose I am having a great deal of fun.” A sliver of sunrise poked over the horizon. In a flash that just caught the few drops of light to trickle onto the tracks, White Stag pulled his rapier. It sliced across Nightmaster’s armor like tissue paper, leaving a long red cut across his chest. Jim grunted and drew his sword.
Sherry took a step forward, but Jim held his hand out to stop her “No!” Jim said. “If you intervene, he won’t give us what we need.”
“Old dogs can learn new tricks, it seems.” White Stag lunged, but this time his blade was batted away by the Sword of Night.
Jim went for a riposte. White Stag sideswiped and the heavy broadsword cut through the air, thunking against the railway tracks. White Stag retaliated, raking another slash across Jim’s side. Jim fell to a knee.
“Yield.” White Stag said. He didn’t get an answer. “I think your man is finished.” He turned to the rest of the Shadowpact, giving Jim the opening to grab a handful of gravel and throw it in White Stag’s face. Stag recoiled and Jim forced himself up using his sword, using the momentum to swing it into White Stag’s flank. It only made the lightest of contact, but the pale red of blood spreading through White Stag’s vest was enough to bring Jim satisfaction.
Jim followed up with another attack, which White Stag evaded. This time, Jim sensed anger behind those opaque spectacles. White Stag parried Jim’s next attack. The second his opponent was off balance, White Stag whipped his rapier at Jim’s wrist. He winced in pain. Another well-placed kick from Stag and the sword went clattering to the side. Jim reached after it, in vain.
“Yield.” White Stag said, this time his voice firmer. Sherry had seen enough battles to see the tremor in Jim’s shoulders, to know what he was going to try next. She added to White Stag, “Yield, Jim. We’ll find another way.”
“I… yield.” Jim said with a bassy, hateful tone.
In an instant, White Stag withdrew his rapier and stepped back. “I wish I could say ‘well fought’, Jim.” White Stag brushed the gravel dust away and ignored his wound. “But I did say I’d tell you where to find Destruction.”
“But I lost.” Jim said, confused.
“Yes, you did. And you continue to lose every day you spend away from Myrrha, right?”
Jim stared at the ground, in a haze.
“You’ll find Destruction at Coast City.”
“Coast City? What would he be doing there?” Rory asked.
White Stag shrugged. “Paying his respects? In any case, I think this concludes our time together for now. I look forward to our next meeting, Jim.” He walked away from the Shadowpact, towards the vast empty desert.
“I don’t think so.” Sherry said. “Not until you answer whatever questions Jim has about Myrrha.”
“I don’t think that would benefit anyone, do you? A nice try at reconciliation, angel. Truly, living up to your occupation.” Sherry charged forward, prepared to take the brunt of any attack White Stag was capable of and tackle him to the ground. However, wInstead, when he swiped his sword it did not clash with Sherry; instead, a portal opened in the air.a quick swipe tore open a portal in the air, White Stag stepped through, and it vanished in an instant. Sherry ran straight past her target.
“His sword can open portals too?” Rory said.
Ruin ignored him and went to Jim’s side, helping him onto his feet. ”C’mon, partner.” Jim winced, taking their hand and slowly rising.
“We need to keep moving. I can bind that move, but there’s no telling how long Destruction will stay in one place. Next stop: Coast City.” Traci said.
