2023.03.23 00:36 Dukelax510 WFH desk setup help.
Hey everyone! So I just started a WFH job and would like to enlist your expertise for a solution.
I have my own PC that I built and use for Gaming and general web browsing. This is connected to two 1440 Acer XV272U monitors. I desperately need two monitors as it keeps me productive in my project management role for a marketing agency.
The new agency I started working at gave me an HP Elitebook 840 G8. What is the best way to be able to utilize these monitors without having to constantly unplug and plug them into the back of my personal rig? I also have peripherals I would like to be able to use but am fine with having to pull out a different mouse/keyboard if need be.
Am I going to need to build a separate set up just for my work laptop?
Any dock/hub recommendations would be amazing as well.
If there is a better sub to post this at please let me know.
Thanks for your help everyone.

2023.03.22 12:50 WiuEmPe Connect 2 computers with TCP IP over USB C - USB C cable
Hi, I would like to copy data from an old HP EliteBook 840 G6 to an HP EliteBook 840 G9 for example using CloneZilla over TCP IP. However, the problem is that the G9 has no rj45 input. I thought - the G6 and G9 have USB C Thunderbolt ports so if I connect both devices with a USBC - USBC cable (but only that I have some old cable...) it will appear dev usb0 and address itself and copy itself at high speed. But no, I don't have dev usb0 on any computer. Is it possible to do this? What should I check?

2023.03.22 00:24 bjwills7 (USA) Shopping for laptop 300$ or under. Will be used for web development, running linux as main OS (Ubuntu).
I've done some shopping myself, the
HP Elitebook 840 G5 and
Microsoft Surface Go seem like decent options but I would like some feedback.
The Elitebook is a refurb, it's cheaper and has more ram and harddrive space but I'm not sure if I'm going to run into issues with linux compatibility.
The Surface Go is new, has a newer cpu and from what I've read on a few forums seems to work well with linux but I would pay more for only 4gb of ram and 64gb of harddrive space.
Which one should I go for? Or should I forget these options and get something else?
- Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $300 or less.
- Are you open to refurbs/used? yes
- How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? performance > battery life > build quality
- How important is weight and thinness to you? Not very.
- Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A
- Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Mostly just an IDE (VSCode) and chrome/firefox. Will be using it for web development.
- If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A
- Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? A good keyboard would be a plus but I'll take what I can get with my limited budget.

2023.03.18 15:20 BRU-1910-NO Opinion on PCs for work
I'm looking for a PC for work purposes(mainly using big databases in Excel/SQL, Power BI, PPT, etc in a financial role). After some research, I've chosen some pcs that might attend my expectations, but I'd like some opinions on this list on things like battery, resistance, performance, and any other feedback. Anyway, here's the list
- Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro NP950XEE-XA1BR
- HP EliteBook 840 G8 6L8M2LA
- Dell Vostro 13 V15-5320-P20C
- Acer Swift 3 SF314-511-7053

- ASUS ZenBook Duo 14 UX482EAR-KA371W
- Dell XPS 13 Plus X13-i1200-M10
You'll notice that the price range is quite broad, I'm looking for a good balance between $$$ and benefits.

2023.03.17 16:11 technicallife_at 22H2 Audiodg Crash with Realtek Driver
Hey ladies and gents,
We are testing right now on our fleet of devices the 22H2 rollout and have (it feels like at every upgrade) an audio issue with our latest HP EliteBook 1040 G9 devices. We also have G6, G7 and G8 devices, absolutely no problem there.
Our problem: Bluetooth headphones connected to the G9. Using the headphones normally like listening to music works pretty nice like always, when you get a call or join a meeting in teams you will get a popup with “your device isn’t working normally please try to restart it”. We found out according the application log that audiodg.exe crashes with the DLL from the newest realtek audio driver for this book (driver from hp).
We also found a workaround: When we set the default sound output to the speakers from the notebook and set the Bluetooth headphones as device only inside teams it is working perfectly.
Anyone having the same problem, any advice to fix it?
Update - Resolved: its not the audio driver, its the Realtek Software Component which was installed on our computer mid February. Although there is nowadays a newer version we had the 1083 version which is causing the problems. We now solved it with the newer cab file from the update catalog from Microsoft and deployed that via intune. Version 1090.

2023.03.16 22:38 ZDitto I need Help Identifying Wires on an old laptop webcam module
| So I'm looking to turn the webcam module from my old HP EliteBook into a USB camera. I've gotten it out and have found what some of the wires are using my multimeter to do continuity testing. My issue is I don't know which wires are for what, as the module includes two microphones as well as the Webcam, and I don't want to use the wrong ones. So far I figured out that Red(3) and Grey(7) are Grounds, and Green(5) and Silver(6) are Power, and the Twisted wires Brown(8) and White(9) should be data +/- (although idk which is which). Black(1), Brown(2), and Orange(4) remain a mystery. This is what I figured out so far So I need help figuring out which Power and which Ground to use when I solder it to the USB wires. Any Help would be greatly appreciated! submitted by ZDitto to diyelectronics [link] [comments] |

2023.03.14 17:53 peacethruwar Switching between two devices using a triple monitor set-up
First of all, apologies if this is in the wrong place.
I think I have spun myself in circles trying to figure out the best/most efficient solution to my set-up dilemma: I currently have two separate systems set up - one for work (laptop), one for personal (PC) - both using dual monitor set-ups in their own way. Due to a number of different circumstances following a move, I am going to be left with three monitors and both devices.
Ultimately, I'm hoping to combine my set-ups going forward that I can use all three remaining monitors in a way that I can switch between the work and personal devices at a whim. Initially I assumed that a KVM was the
only way forward, but researching into this, I'm starting to wonder what would be most efficient whilst keeping the costs down as best as possible.
For reference, further information on my devices/monitors ports:
- Monitor 1&2: BenQ GL2580H - includes 1 x HDMI (v1.4), 1 x VGA and 1 x DVI-D
- Monitor 3: HP EliteDisplay E243m - includes 1 x DisplayPort™ (v1.2), 1 x HDMI (v1.4) and 1 x VGA
- Device 1 (PC): Outputs (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670) - includes 1 x HDMI (v1.4a), - 1 x DisplayPort™ (v1.2), 1 x DVI-D and 1 x DVI-I
- Device 2 (Laptop): Outputs (HP EliteBook 840 G7) - includes 1 x HDMI (v1.4), 2 x USB 3.1 Type-C (with Thunderbolt support)
If additional information would be helpful, do say - and thanks in advance if anybody can help!

2023.03.14 09:26 Snapernietsvan HP Elitebook 840 G7 no 4K 60Hz
Used Hub: Anker 555 via USB C
Port Used on Laptop: USB 3.1 Type-C port with Thunderbolt support
Screen: HP 27f4K
The laptop manual clearly states that DP 1.4 is capable of 4K 60Hz. To my understanding you have to use the USB C 3.1 ports for that since they have Thunderbolt support. Still it only works as 4K 30Hz now. Any suggestions?

2023.03.13 18:58 Adventurous-Pause720 Battery dying.
Hey y'all!
I have an HP Elitebook 840 (5th?) generation. Beginning late last year, the battery began acting up; whenever I would unplug the charger, the laptop would immediately die. Since I was planning on getting a laptop this summer, I decided to just use my laptop as a slightly more mobile desktop until then, but recently, I've noticed something. When I checked the battery level a few months ago, it stagnated at 45%. Recently, a few days ago, I found out that it was 5%, then it became 4%, and now 3%. Does anyone know what causes this issue, and any remedies?
