Not long ago, in a left winged server, people got mad at me and called me a insane for taking the position that marginalized communities should arm themselves and protest for their right (the prevailing opinion within the server was that all guns should be banned btw)
I retorted by stating that banning guns is unilateral disarmament because if we ban all the guns, only bad people (like cops and the state) will have guns and marginalized peoples (like black and trans people) would not, but I recieved instantaneous pushback from all corners.
"The problem with arming minorities is we are still minorities, which means we will often be outgunned in a fight", they said. "You are advocating for a race war", another said". "You are arguing for the massacre of minorities", said another
"Most white conservatives dont see minorities with weapons as a threat, they see them as an opportunity to live out their wet dream of killing minorities and then playing the victim", "Idk what to tell you but most people, even oppressed people, dont want to die. and doing what you're suggesting is guaranteed to end with a bloodbath", "You are insane if you think Malcolm X's 'last resort' is even an idea to entertain. IT'S WHY HE WAS ASSASSINATED TO BEGIN WITH!"
That last one, btw, was in reference to me mentioning how Malcolm X made the argument that the guns should only be for intimidation to tell the police to back off and, if they attack, they should be willing to show the treat that they are willing to turn the streets into a literal warzone
So what I got was "THEY ARE GOING TO ATTACK US ANYWAY! WE ARE OUTGUNNED AND ALL YOU ARE ADVOCATING FOR IS FOR US TO GET MASSACRED! YOU ARE INVITING THEM TO ATTACK US!"
So are they right? Am I a radical extremist who is arguing for genocide, massacre, and suicide, and terrorism (all of which I was accused of)? I dunno, when you get ganged up like that and nobody agrees with you, you start to think maybe it's you who is wrong and them who is right. I do think the debate is noteworthy, though, in the midst of all the trans people taking up arms to defend themselves but now I dunno if that's the right position of not.

The Aaen chief of security, Bows To No King, read from his datapad.
Bows: “Are you saying that this is a “dumb rule” and “you will be fine” then?”
Alvarez: “Yes!”
The silence that followed was interrupted only when she realized what she had just said.
Alvarez: “Wait no, I meant...”
Conrad: “Doc!”
Alvarez: “Not the red one, not the red one!”
Dances In Shadows lunged towards Allison with a loud “Hiya!” and injected her with a dose of “hit by a truck red" on the neck.
Conrad sighed at the sleeping form of his fellow Human.
Conrad: “Alright, I say we call it an unanimous decision, the initiative goes live on Monday.”

Like.. I'm looking at reviews for cars and one thing I read as a con for some is that the engine isn't that powerful. What does that even entail? I'm just trying to get to work or the grocery store. But hey, it was great having a crush that I only saw on Mondays because it took away the "Sunday Scaries" and actually made it fun to go to work! If you had a cure for The Mondays, wouldn't you use it? That was great.
And it was great looking at you because you're so easy to look at. Tall, dark and handsome as they say. Can you really blame me for taking an extra second to smile at you? I really liked how we both are into the same sports team. It made me wonder what things would be like in a different life and it made me want to look nicer at work and I even had a few songs that reminded me of you.
But alas, I made it awkward by making a little too much eye contact and lingering around a little too long. Now I have to dial it back. I deleted the little playlist of songs that reminded me of you and decided it's best to just leave things behind before something really stupid happens.
And to be honest, I feel better now that I've done that. Every now and then I miss the little rush of excitement I got from thinking about you, but I know deep down that things are better this way.

A maverick and Meiji Restoration patriot who gallantly entered the scene in Chōshū at the end of the Edo period.
He was a disciple of Shōka Sonjuku, an academy presided over by Yoshida Shōin. Together with Kusaka Genzui, Yoshida Toshimaro and Irie Kuichi, he was known as one of the Four Heavenly Kings of Shōka Sonjuku, showing great promise for his future.
At first glance, he appears to be a calm, intellectual gentle-looking man, but in actuality, he has a wild temperament and is a troublemaker who is willing to do anything as long as he finds it amusing. At any rate, he is a free-spirited one-man-show of a president who acts independently of other people.

He was born into the Takasugi clan, a prestigious family that had served the Mōri clan for generations since the Sengoku era.
At first he attended Meirinkan, a feudal domain school, but he found their practices of allowing only samurai to attend, stiff formal lessons, among numerous other niceties, so utterly archaic that he enrolled into Shōka Sonjuku, an academy presided over by Yoshida Shōin, a previous top student at Meirinkan.
Unlike Meirinkan, Takasugi found Shōka Sonjuku, or rather Shōin's classes, stupidly interesting, and he quickly rose to prominence as Shōin's disciple. He also went to Edo to study abroad, but his teacher, Yoshida Shōin, was captured and executed due to the Ansei Purge. This is when Takasugi began to openly speak of overthrowing the Shogunate.
Following these events, Takasugi joined a delegation under the Shogunate and studied in Shanghai. Witnessing the threat posed by the Western powers, he grew even more concerned about the future of Japan and overthrowing the Shogunate.
After returning to Japan, he joined the Sonnō Jōi movement and mingled with samurai from various clans in Edo and Kyoto. But even amongst these samurai, Takasugi was an exceptionally unconventional man who committed a numerous amount of radical acts such as setting the British legation on fire.
The Chōshū domain tried to keep Takasugi obedient by offering him a position, but he immediately turned it down. He continued to act nonsensically, ranting that he would fool around for a decade and shave his head. He also stated he would go somewhere far away, but he ended up playing his shamisen and composing songs in his hometown.
Chōshū bombarded the Americans, French and Dutch in Shimonoseki, and promptly got pummeled by them. Frightened by the outcome, Chōshū entrusted Takasugi with defending Shimonoseki. As a result, Takasugi established the "Kiheitai", a modernized militia not bound by social status. However, following some disputes, he was soon dismissed as the leader of the Kiheitai. "Damn clansmen, always complaining over the littlest things."
Anyhow, this and that happened, and Chōshū became the enemy of the imperial government after the Hamaguri Rebellion, continuing to be bombarded by the combined naval forces of four nations in Shimonoseki. "It's over now!" they thought, but for some unfathomable reason the Chōshū clan once again asked Takasugi, who was in prison at the time, to negotiate a peace agreement. However, Takasugi was only too eager to sabotage this peace conference, and so he developed an Ultra C plan to force the Shogunate to pay the reparations instead. At the meeting, Takasugi put on a show by suddenly reciting the Kojiki and even pretending not to hear about the concession of Hikoshima.
While all of this was going on, the First Chōshū expedition was approaching, and a faction of the Chōshū clan loyal to the Shogunate emerged to try to accept the Shogunate's demands. Takasugi was so enraged by this that he commanded a unit with a miniscule number of men at Kōzanji. As reckless as his decision was to command a unit, Takasugi and his men in a state of heightened frenzy, marched into Hagi and wiped out the faction loyal to the Shogunate. Hence the Chōshū were now unified in its policy to overthrow the Shogunate. The Second Chōshū expedition by the Shogunate was commenced in response to this act. Everyone believed that Chōshū was now done for, but Chōshū, perhaps having had a taste of success, decided to appoint Takasugi as their naval commander. Takasugi then took command of the navy and won a great victory against the Shogunate fleet. This battle's victory undermined the authority of the Shogunate, which in turn contributed to the Meiji Restoration.
However, Takasugi, who had been afflicted by illness, died of pulmonary tuberculosis without ever seeing imperial rule fully restored.

Profile 3 (Bond 3)

Takasugi may have a lithe frame, but he has fully mastered Yagyū Shinkage-ryū. Surprised?
Well, that alone seemed too run-of-the-mill for the likes of him, so he developed a mysterious and strange sword technique that combines a specially made Molotov cocktail and Shinkage-ryū. It's fun to swing around.
During normal combat, he wields his homemade Molotov cocktails and shamisen blades, and on top of that he even summons and manipulates a miniature prototype model called Prototype Arahabaki, demonstrating his reckless fighting style. If anything, my style's more like a Rider than an Archer. But I'm not the kind of guy to fit a stereotype, just something else to appreciate about me.
This combat style was derived from events in the Restoration City Saitama singularity, but due to the nature of his peculiar Noble Phantasm and dramatic fate, it became engraved into Takasugi's Spirit Origin.

Profile 4 (Clear CBC 2023 and Bond 4)

Unprecedented Child Prodigy: A An unfinished masterpiece. A phrase coined by a specific someone regarding Takasugi, who raced across the end of the Edo period like a glittering star.
Armament Restoration: B Innovate. Modifying the armaments of one's own army into the latest equipment of that era. A skill derived from the Kiheitai, who overwhelmed the Shogunate forces with the latest equipment and daring tactics.
My Japanese Spirit Will Live Forever: A A line from his teacher Yoshida Shōin's death poem. It makes it possible for Takasugi to rise up against adverse circumstances to escape death in the nick of time. This is an unprecedented skill composition, possessing Guts despite his Weak Constitution.
Weak Constitution: － Weak Constitution was originally a demerit skill, but it has transformed into the Japanese Spirit skill mentioned above after accepting the words and spirit of his teacher.
What's up with this "Weak Constitution" skill bullying its user, save this kind of crap for the Shinsengumi's Manslayer-or-whatever-the-name-was.

Super Restoration - Kiheitai Rank: B+ Type: Anti-Army Noble Phantasm Range: 1-30 Maximum targets: 300
Chōkyū Ishin - Kiheitai. A Noble Phantasm sublimated from an anecdote about the army created by Takasugi. This is an Anti-Army Noble Phantasm that strengthens its allies by endowing them with the necessary skills and equipment according to the war’s situation. It is a difficult Noble Phantasm to use, as it requires managing the finer details such as determining the enemy’s weaknesses, selecting the necessary equipment, and adjusting one’s skills. Essentially, it is a supporting Noble Phantasm that enhances its allies.
In its fully unleashed version, in other words the ace up his sleeve, it is possible for Takasugi to summon the strongest army he can imagine and utilize it temporarily.
Due to the effects of the Noble Phantasm described above, it is possible to summon or select a large number of soldiers with Servant-class combat power with the best equipment, skills and abilities needed to suit the battlefield, as well as operate and strengthen said soldiers as a unit. However, once unleashed, it is a self-destructive Noble Phantasm that rapidly wears down Takasugi’s Spirit Origin and places a tremendous burden on him, so its operational time is short and it becomes difficult to activate again.
Incidentally, the equipment and weapons to be enhanced will become the latest armaments available in that era, so its effects may vary. For example, the Stone Age will summon stone axes, and the early modern era will summon bombers, thus making this a romantic Noble Phantasm that you never know will be strong or weak.

Long ago, back when the youth worried about the state of their nation and rose up in times of turmoil to save it, there was a man who succumbed to death without having achieved his dream.
Well, that in itself wasn't unusual in particular. Back then, everyone was in a hurry to live, while scrambling to be the first to die. Although he would have liked to go a bit more on a rampage first.
The man awakens once again, not knowing whether his wish has been fulfilled or if fate is playing tricks on him. And now together with the youth of the new era, he faces not only a crisis in Japan, but a plight for humanity’s very survival.
Hahahahaha! Excellent, if I were to go on a business trip, of course it would be for a desperate situation of this magnitude with no way out whatsoever. The more powerful the enemy and the more difficult the obstacles, the more interesting it becomes. You think so too, right? Indeed, this obstinate man will stand up again and again. Guided by a strange destiny, leading a strange army into a strange battle.
His eyes gleamed just like that time back when he knocked on a certain door that day.
“This far in, what is there to say? The late cherry blossoms flutter away, carried by the winds of my hometown. At last, I follow my teacher’s shadow in Noyamagoku.”
“Well, I’ll be off then, Sensei.”

So I like customizing cars. I observed this issue for a while now with other cars. So here is the issue. My calico is currently fitted with the "carbon bolt-on race splitter". But then I decided one day to use the" primary downforce splitter" instead. After changing character's glasses to auto save then wait for the orange loading thing on the bottom to finish up, I closed the game to rest. When I start again the game after some rest, and spawned in my auto shop, calico's bumper is reverted to the carbon bolt-on. The worst part is the money went through/deducted even though the bumper reverted back. Is this a glicth/bug? I noticed this also on my cabrio s2. Or am I doing something wrong?

It all starts, as most great things do, with a cat.
He was my best friend for almost 2 decades. I spent the better half of the last decade in existential dread about his upcoming death, drawn partially from some health issues he had as a kitten and just from the basic knowledge that, as a cat, he was going to die.
Sometime in that decade of (at times) overwhelming dread, I was diagnosed with cancer, cured of it, and the subsequently diagnosed with some form of "pre cancer" or "concerning growth" 3 or 4 times, leading to genetic tests and oncology visits and full workdowns that stressed what little dignity I had left. It all culminated in a phrase from one of my oncologists that has stuck in my mind like a splinter: "Some people's bodies are just not put together right." Next came the realization that the bell curve of my life expectancy is going to awfully shorter than what I was hopefully planning on and everything that entails.
Growing up, I knew I'd likely not want a kid; just never had that parental gene. Despite the closeness of some of my relationships, I've always treasured my boundaries; here's where I end and you begin sort of thing. Cats are great for that. Dogs? Eh. Kids? Not a chance. Even my almost 20 year relationship with my now wife had pretty explicit boundaries and where our Venn diagrams crossed and where we had our own worlds.
But partially because of the existential dread of the inevitable loss of my best friend and partially because I knew my wife almost assuredly be left alone (ignoring my own shrunken lifespan, her grandparents have all lived to almost 100; she was always going to live me), I decided to have a child. The logic was sound: I wanted him to at least meet my best friend and give me something to help ease his eventual passing and I wanted something to be there for my wife as she moved on to her possible second life without me. Turns out my initial self awareness was spot on: kind of hated being a parent despite loving the kid, didn't like what it did to my world and relationships, and what's more, he was born right after the US quarantine from COVID started!
That first year was rough; I almost ended it a few different times, but my wife needed me, my then 15 year old best friend needed me, and my other cat (whom I love dearly) needed me because she's just a basket case of medical conditions and I'm the primary care person for the cats.
Fast forward from 2020 to 2023: my kid is 3, my wife and I feel less like lovers and more like coworkers where our job is to raise a (admittedly wonderful) toddler, I've been out of work for 2 months because my company nuked all western publishing* , and my best friend died 4 months ago at the age of 17. He was comically healthy for so long, to the point where the emergency vet that I took him to after his first seizure didn't believe me about his age and swore he was no older than 12 or 13. But shit happens fast when you're old; I managed to get his second seizure on camera and his vet immediately diagnosed him with brain cancer. After some tests, his prognosis was 3-6 months, with an outside chance of a year. He was dead in 3 weeks.
*(I was the VP of Data, my opinion on the capabilities of the org had a lot to do with said closing, don't feel bad for me)
Now I'm left in a diminished state: I don't love this new family as much as I loved my old one. I actively dislike my new life, whereas I loved my old one. I don't even have the reptilian chance to be angry at how my cat died! Everything was perfectly normal, he was just old and it was an aggressive cancer, so I'm without a focal point for my anger at the world. Instead, I'm left with directionless pain and a lack of desire to do literally anything.
My wife and I had an argument today about something silly; I wanted to simply talk through some of the things I was going through and what not having a job was doing to me and she tried to immediately go in to problem solving mode, which is explicitly what I didn't want. It escalated because neither of us are in a good place and it ended up with her downstairs and me in our room with one of my straight razors thinking how easy and painless it'd be to simply slice down my left arm. Thinking isn't even the right word; one moment I was leaning against my bed, the next I had the razor in my hand, a cascading waterfall of ambient noise in my ear blocking out all cognition. I finally snapped out of it when I remembered that my other cat (who I have to give chemo to twice a week because she's also dying of cancer, albeit very slowly) needs me and because I made a promise to myself that if I ever killed myself, I wouldn't do it where my wife would be the one to find me.
All I've thought about since is how else I could do it. How easy it would be. What a genuine solution it'd be to everything I've felt. I don't enjoy things anymore. I know I'm depressed, I know there's partial bipolarism, and I can trace the roots of all of my thoughts and feelings to where they come from but ultimately they are all rooted in a material condition that I do not have the ability to change and so they are all valid. I know the possibility for better days exist but I'm not sure it's worth it to ride it out.
I don't know. Sorry for ranting. Sorry for the block of text. I wish it felt better to put it pen to paper.

Background / Training

I previously wrote about achieving my "lifetime" goal of a sub-5 mile at 38 years old in August of last year here: https://www.reddit.com/AdvancedRunning/comments/x2kr9h/sub5_mile_at_38_years_old/ TLDR: I went from 235 lbs to 170 lbs and sub-5 mile for the first time in my life in under 24 months.
I then managed to run 1:24:43 for the half in October, which gave me enough success that I thought I could train to run a good marathon. Since I had relatively little endurance training leading into that point and five months to build up, I thought I could set myself the goal of running around 2:50 for the LA Marathon (my first).
I'd like to say I followed a plan; I did sketch out my own adapted version of Pfitz before injuries had me pull back to just two quality days a week (when I could handle). Mostly one day of threshold work and adding quality and distance to my long runs over my previous training. Pre-race

Nutrition has come relatively easily to me on the run, and I have taken down plenty of gels without GI issues in training. I brought two 8-ounce soft flasks with a scoop of tailwind each and 8 gels (6 maurtens, and 2 caffeinated SIS since I don't like the maurten caf) to the starting line.
I was also dealing with a minor back injury for the previous two weeks, but it had felt fine on all of my runs, and I could do faster pace reps without any issues.
I was not hard-committed to 2:50 for the race and thought I could always back off a tiny bit and finish low 2:50s in the worst case.

Race

I had coordinated with someone I met through running to hopefully work together for the first half. However, we had never previously run together, and we handled the hills differently, and he pulled away from me fairly early.
Strangely, about 10 miles in, I was starting to feel soreness in my glutes. This surprised me as I had never felt soreness there in any of my training, even my hillier runs. Typically after long runs, I would feel it in my calves and, occasionally, on very hilly runs, in my quads. I was definitely feeling some discomfort in my legs, but it felt tolerable and still felt reasonably fresh overall. At about mile 15 on the steeper downhill section, I did feel like I had to hold something back and wished I could have gone even more slowly downhill, but I felt like I was braking quite a bit as it was. By mile 19 my legs were feeling rough, and even though my heart and lungs were still feeling great (my HR dropped by almost 20 bpm from peak), I was hurting. I repeatedly tried to pick the pace back up, but the problem felt entirely in my quads and glutes.
For the last 8 miles, I slowed substantially. While I did pass a few runners who had completely overcooked (some of who I tried to wave for medical attention), I was mostly getting net-passed. The good news was that other than my legs, I felt pretty good, so I tried my best to enjoy myself for the rest of the race giving lots of high fives and cheering along with the crowds. I made one last attempt to speed up when getting passed by a friend in the last mile, but my cardiovascular system wasn't what was limiting me, so it did absolutely nothing.

Post-race

I was disappointed at first, even though objectively, the result was pretty good. 30 months ago, I was 235 pounds, and 18 months prior, I hadn't started running. However, I still thought my goal was realistic (maybe it was on a flatter course??), so it took a few days to get over.
Also, the first three days post-race, my legs were in so much pain I thought I might have injured myself. Fortunately, I'm feeling much better, so I tried to feel good about how hard I must have pushed myself.
I had originally planned CIM as my next race, and I'm still considering it, but giving myself some time to decide. As for now, I'm looking forward to finishing my recovery and getting back to training for some shorter races, hoping to break 17 for 5k and 36 for 10k later this year and keep trying to find out how fast I can get.

I (34F, 5'6", 150lb, daily cetirizine) have been diagnosed with anxiety disorder but am currently unmedicated (have been on citalopram in the past). I have a prescription for Xanax if needed, but I avoid taking it. I haven't taken it for 2 years. Every March my physical symptoms of anxiety (disorientation, chest tightness, rapid heart rate, insomnia, choking feeling, heated from the inside) worsen. I'm not anxious about any situation or thoughts in particular so therapy strategies such as "floating" the thought or Cognitive Behavior Therapy don't seem relevant. I've had a stress test, echocardiogram, and heart ultra sound 6 months ago and they came back normal. Is it okay to simply cope and get through the symptoms, or can the symptoms themselves be dangerous to my health? Do I need to schedule a follow up with my doctor about anxiety attacks that last for 30-45 minutes even if I don't want to be on meds or can I just accept them as part of chronic anxiety?

It’s so easy for me to be nice to others but I am so mean to myself sometimes it feels like my thoughts are racing and it feels out of control. How can I start actually being nice to myself and loving myself?
I feel like this is an obvious question but ah well. I always tell myself to be nice to myself but I sometimes forget but I know I can change in the moment now. I feel like I kind of answered my own question but also I still struggle.

Female. 19. Roughly 150lbs. AA. I can’t tell if I’m crazy or if it’s actually swollen. My right knee is seemingly bigger than my left and there is pain the comes and goes. Especially when I’m bending my knees very often. If I’m not bending my knees it doesn’t really hurt and it’s not as big. When I’m taking of my shoes or pants it’s hurts to pull my leg out, kind of like my leg is being pulled out of place from the knee down.
For pretext, I took a really bad fall during a race about 5 or 4 years ago and never got it checked out. The back of my knee was kicked in mid run then I was all over the place so I couldn’t tell exactly what happened. When I stood up it felt like my knee was twisted completely to the side but my family brushed it off.
I just want to know what it could be and if I should actually ask a doctor cause my last doctor brushed it off and said to do physical therapy but never told me what for except for “something isn’t lined up” that wasn’t helpful for me. Anything helps really

• Crosswinds and rain made for great viewing, but difficult predictions. Nearly 40% of players went home empty handed. A few favourites did make it though: 21 players scored ten points exactly for picking either Jasper Philipsen or Olav Kooij. But with carnage on the road, the SRFL win went to players who picked less popular riders...
• It may have been a tactical mess for Quick Step, but Bert Van Lerberghe delivered the victory for u/nahgoe16. They took home 49 points for the unique pick of the 12th place finisher! Congratulations!
• Just behind in second, u/Mattho will be cursing bridge embankments for dropping Dylan Groenewegen out of the lead group and into 13th place. u/Norskov takes third for picking dark horse Sam Welsford!
