2023.06.09 01:05 ASwirlOfStardust QAnon father insists my little ailment is caused by the COVID vaccine and won't let me go get it checked out
I'm back, sadly.
The rest of my family is currently out of the country and will be for the next month, so I am stuck with my father, whom I have a very volatile relationship with.
Recently a sizable, painful lump appeared in my groin area. I let my father know, and he became extremely suspicious of the cause of the lump. He's had zero medical training, but then "diagnoses" me with a swollen lymph node --- citing Google and his life experience --- and prescribes me some anti-inflammatory medicine.
So far, that's fine. He could be right anyhow, and I'm willing to give the medicine a shot for a day or two and see if it solves my problem.
But then this morning he informs me that he has done more research, spoken to "credible doctors", and determined that my lump is "indeed caused by the COVID vaccine" (for background, I fought a battle to get vaccinated two years ago, and he has never quite forgiven me for it). On he goes with his unintelligible logic about how the vaccine killed my natural immune system and this is my body fighting back blah blah, all while trying to accuse me of not obeying him two years ago.
To avoid confrontation, I ignored everything he said and simply asked him if I could go get it checked out, regardless of the cause. He insists that the doctors here "will never admit to the real cause of your lump and so they will never give you the right treatment. Trust me, I've dealt with this before, I'm talking with good doctors [Who? From Twitter? I have no clue] right now and they'll get you fixed up."
I realized then that, not only will he not allow me to go see a doctor, he's also going to give me all sorts of questionable "treatment". So I pulled my last resort card and told him that my lump seems not to be where the groin lymph nodes are but further down in my private region (which is true), and that the people I really want to see are gynecologists.
That seemed to work as he backed off a little bit and hesitantly allowed me to go get it checked out if my lump doesn't go away in the next day or two.
But fuck is this exhausting. I'm literally scared of getting sick because of him, since no matter what it may be, he blames it on the vaccine and we fight.
How do I navigate this situation, being 17 and not quite of legal age? Where can I see a gynecologist (this would be my first time)? Or should I go see my primary care provider first? Any advice is so, so appreciated.

2023.06.09 01:04 Garlic_Lost Lip eczema - allergic reaction to metal
Daily win..So i was struggling with eczema around the mouth (under the nose) for like 8 months! but also more recently eczema on the lip itself, which is quite unusual for perioral dermatitis (original diagnosis). Id apply elidel on the area around my lips and that would calm things down, but then everything will reappear a day or two after i stopped applying. 7-8 months non stop burning lips, It drove me nuts and I was so depressed. After finally convincing a new derm to do patch testing for me, turns out i have a metal contact allergy to cobalt (and likely also nickel). The irony is that ive been using a metal cup to drink water from when brushing my teeth for the last 7+ months. And since I developed the perioral eczema, i bought a bunch of metal straws (supposedly stainless steel but who knows…) to try and limit the irritation while I drink/eat. But all this metal contact to my lips was likely making things worse and so the eczema would keep reappearing.
Ive been refused patch testing by a derm in the past, saying my case doesn’t look like contact dermatitis. The takeaway here is don’t give up! Always ask for testing, and also don’t put metals on your lips if they are sensitive/eczematous.
I also tested positive for a blue dye used in clothing items (all my work wardrobe is blue/dark) and a few other irritants.
I don’t think these results will dramatically change my life, and Id likely still get eczema, however it’s so good having some clarity as to what might be causing/contributing to it. I would have never guessed the metal part!

2023.06.09 01:04 Ok-Education-5798 Career Question (no experience)
I am not sure if this is the right place to post, but I'm looking for some advice.
Backstory - I got my associate's degree in nursing, got a job immediately and passed my NCLEX. My job was an hour and a half commute each way and I wasn't able to continue to do that as a new RN. There were no closer available jobs at that time, so I decided to go back to school for my BSN the following start of semester.
I completed half of my program and got H1N1 and was in the ICU for 2 months and had a long road to recovery afterward. I went back and finished my BSN program with a 4.0 even though I was still quite ill when the next semester started.
After being so ill, I was in no place to be working in any medical setting. It actually took me years after my H1N1 experience to recover and get to a healthy place not to mention the medical trauma side of things.
I became a mom and have been home with my child since then. Whenever I start to think about how to get into the nursing world and utilize my degree, I feel like it's impossible and haven't been able to get any helpful advice regarding the path to take.
Due to the circumstances of what happened, I didn't have the typical path forward with my career I thought that I would. Now when I look at positions, my education is from years back without any relevant, current or past experience besides that 5 month position I initially took right out of school (cardiac step down unit).
I've looked into refresher courses for nurses and was wondering if that would be beneficial, or if I should try to shift my degree to another area and start over again. I am just looking for advice if anyone has any! I have looked into career coaching and different avenues, but haven't ever really been able to find any solid advice.

I really enjoy collecting the cosmetic parts since the 3d art is so great in this game.
Does anyone have a list for everything that is available to be obtained?
So far I know of the rare random horse armor drops that seem to correlate to what area of the map you're in, the rewards for collecting baleful fragments in PvP, a ghastly reins horse that drops from the Legion events and, of course, the current Twitch drops.

2023.06.09 01:03 Wutbot1 Wutbot on "Option, Wilderness": [r/backpacking] Best High Protein Options when in Remote wilderness?
Want to go hiking in in remote area for 3 weeks. I have to eat high protein low carb meals for medical reasons, but fresh meat will not be available. The best option I can find is Mountain House freeze dried diced chicken, HOWEVER it says once you open the can all of it must be used within a week or it will go bad (which doesn't work for me since I would have 2 weeks left). Any other recommendations? Any bodybuilders out there that hike?

2023.06.09 01:03 modestLife1 How were you diagnosed with any of either bipolar, schizoaffective disorder, or schizophrenia – and how long did it for any of these to be diagnosed in you?
Hey, y'all.
Are any of you diagnosed with bipolar (any kind), schizoaffective disorder, or schizophrenia?
How long did you work with your psychiatrist to arrive at any of these three diagnoses?
I'm working with a new one right now, and she asked me to go over my past experiences in which I had episodes in the past and to try to be as descriptive as I could with whatever symptoms I was having to be able to analyze and categorize exactly what I may have.
So now I'm in the process of jogging my memory going way back to 2007 to really try to find out all of the features of my mental illness and really nail this.
I just have no idea if this is how other psychiatrists work to help their patients get a diagnosis. Or if psychiatrists give you some kind of certified test to help narrow things down to a proper diagnosis.
How do they diagnose things, exactly?
My current psychiatrist seems to think I have either bipolar, schizoaffective disorder, or schizophrenia. I think it's more likely (as does she) as well as an additional psychiatrist that my affliction leans more towards being bipolar or schizoaffective disorder, which I understand are less severe than schizophrenia.
Anyway, peace y'all. Hope you all are enjoying the beautiful day. 🙏🏼

| Found these little bugs/larvae on the wall of my bedroom. Feels like it happened super quick or maybe I missed it earlier. In Denver area where there are lots of moths currently and higher than normal humidity. It’s next to a hanging pathos plant that’s dried out at the moment. I’m worried they may be mosquitos as I’ve seen a few in the house. We also have a lot of flies in the area. Any ideas are welcome 🙏 submitted by sendsomedickpix to whatisthisbug [link] [comments] |
2023.06.09 01:02 throwaway2929383886 No one takes me seriously.
i’ve been managing, but the deeper i look, the more i realize how deeply rooted into my life this is. The way i’ve been thinking my entire life. It’s like a monster. It needs to get out somehow. the mental agony for years due to my home environment acted almost as a cover for my own mind. I knew the source of my anxiety, so I only looked there to explain the way I felt. And now, i’ve finally addressed this.
I’ve been trying to communicate this to my mom. She’s aware, in fact everyone close to me knows about my extreme tendencies and fixations on my appearance and other things (whether i want them to or not). But she has never sat down and talked to me about it, and when i try, she shuts me down if i get emotional around her and she yells at me for being “sucked in” my emotions.
I told my older brother that i thought i had OCD, and that i had just recently discovered this, and that it has impacted every single day of my life for as long as i can remember. He told me he has 9 years of experience and knows what OCD looks like and that i don’t have it (he has worked in mental hospitals).
I tried so hard to explain that i had been hiding it my whole life due to shame, without realizing. I also genuinely believed I did not have OCD, just ADHD. I always imagine OCD as very external, like cleaning or organizing (etc.) so i never felt like I related at all to the symptoms.
it’s so bad. And it has been worse, but I fix something (being able to stop compulsively skin picking for hours), and it somehow will get me with something else without me even realizing, and i get sucked into that agonizing trance of needing to completely finsih/perfect what I am doing to move on with the day. It’s so hard and draining. I keep stomping it down and it keeps reappearing somewhere else. That, and random “relapses” of things I finally got myself to stop doing every few months.
What can I do to communicate the severity of this without being invalidated ? They think I am aware/control every thought and that I can just stop any time . And sometimes that’s true, but most of the time it happens without me realizing, so telling them how much of a hold it has over me never gets me anywhere.
I go to a psychiatrist for ADHD meds, so i will discuss it when I next see her.
But I feel so urgent, because it has been at its worst lately and i feel so terrible and it consumes me so much I end up neglecting the things i NEED to focus on. It’s like I’ve been more in my head than real life.
Everyone sees me as slacking off, or avoiding things on purpose, so when I say it’s more than that, it’s seen as an excuse. And I’m being punished for it.
People think it’s insecurity, and it is, but it runs so much deeper that I am never taken seriously for it and it’s so hard to explain without it being viewed as just “excuses” to slack off.
This existence is agonizing.

2023.06.09 01:02 Credtz People with rehabbed jaw neck and upper back, how?
For a lot of us we’ve got tension / issues in the upper spinal areas. Jaw, neck and upper back. Mine are generally super tight and I feel like whenever I do something that makes it tighter my symptoms flair.
I have neck crepitus, jaw clenching issues and a super tight and knotted upper back.
I just wanted to ask if people could share what they had and how they went about rehabbing it.

2023.06.09 01:01 marcolo98 Courtyard alternative
I currently live in a dog friendly apartment with a closed in courtyard so when my pit terrier gets high energy I just go downstairs, let him off leash, and chase him around/let him explore and zoom to tire him out for 10-15 minutes. Problem is, I'm about to move out. The new place has a dog park ~20 min walk away but no other nearer off leash areas for him to sprint. Would love some recommendations for alternative quick ways to tire him out.

2023.06.09 01:01 i-fart-butterflies SA Makes me not want to go anywhere alone
I started developing social anxiety around the time that I developed idiopathic scoliosis in my preteens. It’s very severe. I’ve had it treated, but it didn’t work. With most people, you can’t tell they have it, but you can with me. Since I had spinal fusion, I move really stiffly and I walk funny. Everybody notices and points it out. I’m told that I come off as extremely confident, almost cocky Because people often expressed that they feel like I need to be taken down a peg And all my flaws pointed out in glaring detail but I’m actually really self-conscious And hyper aware of every single one. To be honest, most days, I can barely stand to look at myself in the mirror.
When I have someone with me, usually people don’t bother me. I blend in a lot more easily. Unfortunately I don’t have any friends in the immediate area. The closest person I know is 30 minutes away. It’s not like I can just call them to go with me to the grocery store or something. When I’m alone is when I can feel their eyes on me and definitely not in a nice way.
It doesn’t matter whether I’m in a place that is suspicious to be alone or not. I could be on the bus on my commute to work, out getting my mail, shopping, or just out on the biking trail, and everybody fucking looks at me. I hate leaving the house for any reason unless I have somebody with me. I know that’s pathetic for somebody in his late 20s but I hate all these people looking at me. It makes me hate going to work, and On my days off, I don’t like leaving the house. Even interacting with my roommates in the common area. When I have to leave my room to cook makes me so nervous I feel like vomiting.

We don’t have tickets yet (trying to buy day of while hoping for miracles 🌹) so wanting to have a backup plan in case we don’t get in.
Do any experienced pals have recommendations?
It’s my understanding there’s no lot and Shakedown can be a bit intense, but are there any recommended bars in the area? I feel like there’s gotta be some establishments streaming the show or something.
Thanks so much, hope y’all enjoy the show!
