2023.03.21 02:37 TheNuttyNutNut I'm(M40) My wife (F32) of 8 years wants to stay "friends" with the guy she cheated on me with, we've got a 6 year old son and supposed to be buying a house soon... Are they "just friends?"
I get it, I pushed her away, I was drunk arsehole stoner and I treated her badly, I feel very ashamed and guilty, I was very depressed and in a bad place.
We moved back to my Mum's house about a year and a half ago, we met abroad 9 years ago. Our 6 year old was born there and all my wife's family are there. We had an amazing life but it was a dangerous country and we wanted our son to be educated here. My Mum suffers from mental illness and is very depressed and anxious, I should have seen the effect it was having on my wife and our relationship but I blamed my wife for being difficult and drank to deal with it, as I've drank to deal with everything that was bad in my life so far.. We'd had lots of good times too during this period, it wasn't like we were fighting all the time. She wanted to rent somewhere but I said it was a waste of money and we should buy, but wait to see what's happening with the housing market. I didn't see what living in the house with my Mum was doing to our relationship.
I quit my job and took 3 months off last November to focus on starting my own business and to be a better father to our son, I'm a chef and was doing 70+ hours a week. My son had a medical issue and I took some time to make sure he got better, and he did, for that I'm proud.
Around that time we had a massive fight. It was difficult trying to plan the business and I found myself a bit lost, don't have many friends in the area and started drinking too much at home and smoking weed after my son had gone to bed, so by the time my wife got home around 10.30pm from her job I'd be drunk and high. I knew something was wrong, she kissed me differently and things just weren't right, I accused her so many times but she denied it. But we were still having good times, sleeping together occasionally and doing things together. Christmas Day was great, I was relatively sober.
During this time I focused on buying a house, I'm very privileged (not crazy privileged) but my family are comfortable. I inherited quite a bit from my grandparents but wasn't enough for a house but with my wife on the mortgage we were able to do it, went to see loads but found the right one for us. I'm putting down 3/4 of the money. We signed all the papers and hopefully should be moving soon.
On Valentine's Day she came out and told me that she'd got close to someone at work, they'd only kissed, it had happened after our fight in November. I lost it, she said she'd quit her job (they work together) and would stop seeing him. That didn't happen, and she's still working at the same place. I suppose my behaviour pushed her to it. The guy has loads of problems, is from a different country too, is Muslim and they were both there for each other to talk to and they inevitably kissed. She promises they haven't slept together (I'm trying to believe her) She says that when we move and she gets a new job it'll just fade away but he's so messed up she wants to be there for him as a friend.
I made some life changes, I haven't drunk since the day after I found out or smoked weed (been doing both since I was 14, I'm 40 now), I've gone to the gym nearly every day (first time in 20 years) and I'm seeing a therapist, something I would never have done before. I've got a job interview tomorrow.
The problem is my anxiety just can't take it, I'm a mess, I keep on pushing her to end it with him and to stop seeing him, we'd agreed that we'll get the house and give it 6 months, I said we should rent somewhere, but she said I had that chance a year ago. We've had some good times recently and it just makes it worse as the next day I push her more to stop seeing him. I get it she's scared that I'm just going to go back to my old ways, but I won't, I'm done with that life. I just want to be a good husband and father to our son. He's the reason we're still together, he's so excited about the house.
Are they still "friends" though? one night I looked at her phone, nothing selacious but it seemed as though they were covering their tracks...
Last week, she'd had enough, called me saying she couldn't take the pressure anymore and we were going to tell our son that night, I lost it, dropped my son at my brother's, turned my phone off and went to London, I had a really dark 20 mins but couldn't do it, I had decided to go away for a week or so to clear my head. When I turned my phone back on I found out she'd reported me missing, I got picked up by the police and taken to see the mental health team at the hospital. I felt so guilty and horrible, turns out she'd called the police Infront of my son, and drove round all the local pubs with him looking for me.
Then the next day the Guy she is "friends" with drove his car into a wall and ended up in hospital. I cut back the pressure on her and tried to be supportive, it must be so difficult for her
We've got really close the last week, Sunday was mother's day, we had an amazing day, I made her a special breakfast, we had a steamy cuddle in bed, went out for lunch and she even kissed me, she sent me a song and we talked for ages when she got back home from work. None of the anxiety was there when she was at work, for the first time in a month I felt amazing.
Today my anxiety got the better of me, I'd been to the gym, we'd exchanged a few messages then on her break 1-4 she disappeared offline and I got obsessed that she was seeing him, we spoke briefly about our son, I decided to try and carry on the vibe and made her a Thai curry for when she got home, put loads of effort in, even put candles out. But then I started talking about him, was she with him at lunch? why can't she just stop seeing him? I ruined the whole evening and she ended saying I'm pushing her away and she said she'd planned on watching something on TV and sleeping in the same bed but I'd ruined it...
She's still here, still wears her wedding ring, why am I being so pushy and trying to force her to stop being friends with this Guy? But if they're just friends why is it so difficult for her not to see him?
She's the love of my life, I'm trying so hard to change but why am I only thinking of my feelings not hers? Suppose deep down I'm worried that if we get the house she'd get it in the divorce and I'd be screwed. Is this all part of a big scheme, is she worried she doesn't have enough to rent somewhere by herself so she's playing for time?
For me love is more important than money, she's my soulmate, we've been through so much together and our son is such an amazing boy, I can't bear to break his heart but if she doesn't love me or have feelings why hasn't she left, why is she still wearing her wedding ring, why is she saying she wants to work it out but still "friends" with the other Guy, and are they still really just "friends".....

2023.03.21 02:37 Kindly-Ebb-8801 can i be hopeful…?
saw another person do this so wanted to get some advice!
i’m a high school junior from NJ hoping to get into ANY bsmd program.
STATS: gpa: 4.0/4.5 (uw/w) ap courses: ap bio (3 ik but online school), apush (4), taking ap world, lang, physics 1, and macro. gonna take ap lit, physics 2, and calc ab next year. sat: 1490 (730 RW, 760 M) *oh also want to note that I go to a specialized high school & am part of the Biomed Academy so I took lots of medical-related classes.
ECs: 1) Research Assistant at Columbia University. Helped a medical student with his research on balance training with a mobile thethered pelvic device. Put my name as one of the authors. 2) Intern at a biotech company. Conducted a literature review on non-pharmacological interventions for cardiac diseases. 3) Vice President of Student Council (will be pres most likely) 4) Red Cross Quad-County Team Leader 5) President of Red Cross Chapter of my school 6) Red Cross New Jersey Youth Council Biomed Lead 7) Secretary of Math Honor Society 8) Secretary of Academy Science Journal, my school’s science journal. 9) Volleyball. I do it just for fun! 10) My food blog— did this since middle school and I think it kinda shows I have a life outside of school.
VOLUNTEERING & SHADOWING Volunteering at a hospital in NYC. Did over 200+ hours in the Cardiac Surgery Stepdown Unit. Shadowed 2 cardiologists (20ish hours, gonna do more in the summer).
AWARDS (my biggest weakness imo) 1) High Honor Roll (all marking periods) 2) Red Cross Recognized Youth 3) Outstanding Achievement in Chemistry award (given to two ppl per grade) + also got one for English 4) Student athlete award
I’m a junior so time is kinda limited now. My plan is to (1) get my sat up to 1500+, (2) do more shadowing, (3) do research over the summer— applied to my state’s gov school and hopefully I get in or I’ll do a paid summer program at the hospital I volunteer at. I just don’t know how I can bump up my awards. Not a good test taker but maybe I can submit my literature review to contests?— this was done with a cardiologist.
Oh and my goal is to get into ANY bs/md program that isn’t like fake— ones that admit hundreds of students and call it a bsmd. But I’d prefer a warm location so I’m looking into UCF, FSU, U of Arizona, etc.
ANY ADVICE/HELP WOULD BE SO APPRECIATED! PLS BE HONEST!!!

2023.03.21 02:32 umpike698 Rental Arbitrage: Schedule C or E
Hi,
I have done some research but there seems to be some conflicting information in addition to this concept being “relatively” new, or so I think, so not much relevant case law or irs memos that I’m aware of. This is in reference to short term rental arbitrage for this inquiry.
I can see this going either way but since the form of income would be very similar to a property owner buying, setting up an str then managing the rental and since it is “rental income” I could see how it is Schedule E (assume no substantial services). The only difference is really paying a mortgage instead of rent all else equal operationally for sake of this question from setup, to marketing to self operating the rental.
However, I could possibly see how the irs would consider it an operational business even if you don’t materially participate or provide substantial services there may be a form over substance argument to be made.
Is there a bright line test here, definitive answer or up for interpretation based on facts and circumstances? If the last one, based on the facts outlined I think I lean Sch E but would putting there with no depreciable property other than ff&e raise any flags? And if so, is Sch E a defendable position?
Thanks for taking the time to read my post/thoughts and any feedback, thoughts, and positions openly welcomed.

2023.03.21 02:07 VexxySmexxy Thinking of getting the Digital Nomad Visa
Hi all,
I'm 24 and make $100k (before taxes) working remotely in the US for a company in London. I have an opportunity to rent a room with a friend in Spain.
I really want to make a jump and try something new and I like Europe, but I just want to make sure or atleast feel confident the DNV is a good idea. Should I have any hesitations or just say fuck it and meet with a lawyer, get the DNV and move to Spain? Is there anything important to consider?

Spectre of Maralinga hangs over Aukus Nuclear Waste for Indigenous Communities
https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/ma19/spectre-of-maralinga-hangs-over-aukus-nuclear-waste-for-indigenous-communities
"Behind all the pomp of the Aukus submarine deal in San Diego there was a detail that could prove a much bigger obstacle than even the massive USS Missouri moored near the three leaders. Under the agreement, Australia will be responsible for storing high-level nuclear waste from the decommissioned reactors.
And that is no easy feat. The US and UK naval reactors that will power both the Virginia-class subs and the future SSN-Aukus boats are fuelled by highly enriched uranium-235.
Once removed and decommissioned, any spent fuel from naval reactors is usually reprocessed to extract usable nuclear fuel for civilian generation and the remaining radioactive waste concentrated. The Australian government has promised not to reprocess spent fuel, which means it will probably be sent offshore.
Overseas, the process typically involves extracting usable fuel such as uranium and plutonium, and then vitrification, in which radioactive waste is concentrated and melted down into a “big glass block” weighing tonnes, according to Dr Patrick Burr, a senior lecturer in nuclear engineering at the University of New South Wales. “It’s actually a very small volume, but it is extremely radioactive,” he said.
After this complicated and hugely expensive process has been completed, there remains one big question – where will this waste be stored?
Nuclear reactor fuel yields high-level waste, which is not only more radioactive. “When you have high-level waste, it is actually physically hot, so [you] need to think about thermal management as well,” Burr said.
As some experts have pointed out, Australia has not even found a permanent site to store low-level nuclear waste, let alone highly radioactive waste.
So far, the government has not given any details on that other than the defence minister, Richard Marles, saying it will be on land that is either owned by the defence department or to be acquired in future. Marles also said this won’t need to be solved until well into the 2050s.
But that is not enough to satisfy many Indigenous communities, who fear the prospect of high-level nuclear waste dumps on traditional lands, and for whom the spectre of British nuclear testing in the 1950s and 60s still looms large.
In South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula region, a proposed storage facility near Kimba for low-level nuclear waste has faced staunch opposition from traditional owners, as well as environmentalists and farmers, despite a ballot supported by about 60% of residents conducted by the Australian Electoral Commission.
The Barngarla Determination Aboriginal Corporation chair, Jason Bilney, said the Barngarla people had not been consulted, opposed the plan and had been in a legal battle with the federal government against the proposal.
He said he believed any storage of high-level nuclear waste would not be suitable in that area given the lack of granite and rock to hold the toxic waste, which could take hundreds of thousands of years to break down. “The ground is dirt,” he said. “High-level stuff needs to be stored and contained within the solid rock formation and Kimba doesn’t have that.”
Bilney said many traditional owners in the region had a deep distrust and fear of defence testing and nuclear waste after the nuclear weapons testing conducted by the UK in Maralinga.
The tests caused many of the local Anangu Pitjantjatjara people to suffer from radioactive illnesses, with elders and family sickened and the land contaminated.
Bilney said his grandfather, who was from the Maralinga area, always remembered the trauma and the fear, which has continued through the generations.
"That’s why I’m so strong and so passionate about being an advocate for my people and all Indigenous people,” he said.
“There is still a big fear that that could happen again … It’s that generational effect and even now people are still passing away of cancers.” ...
Bilney said while the bomb testing was not the same as storage of high-powered uranium rods, that fear remains.
“It’s that generational effect. It’s people just dying from the effects of the atomic bomb and still suffering trauma. This is going to be stored into the earth. It’s going to destroy our way of life for us.”
He said there was a real concern that storage of nuclear waste on traditional lands and any restrictions on access could harm the cultural and spiritual knowledge that had been passed down for thousands of generations.
“It’s our biggest worry. We are the oldest culture for over 60,000 years and this is going to outlast it. We want to pass down to the next generation and to continue this for decades to come to protect and preserve our sites and our storylines and that connection to country. And if they put it on country, we won’t be able to share that and we will lose those storylines. It will sever those ties.”
"Our country is a huge bit of South Australia,” he said. “It starts from the Port Augusta region up to Woomera, around to Coober Pedy and through Tallaringa down around to the west coast, back around through to Whyalla – that’s traditionally Kokatha country.
“Having to fight 20 years to be recognised over a piece of country that’s now going to be targeted to be used as a radioactive waste dump, we’re very concerned about this.”
He said he was strongly against any proposed nuclear waste storage facility in any defence site in his traditional homelands.
“We don’t want it and anyone with any common sense is going to say the same thing. We don’t want that in our back yard.”
He said there were still defence testing sites in the remote desert, with unexploded ordinances, rockets and materials dating back decades – in 2021 an unexploded rocket was found near Lake Hart, a culturally significant site.
“There’s a lot of historic waste that’s still lying around in the Woomera area from the very early days of when they were testing things. It’s bad enough that when we go out to our sites that we’ve got to dodge missiles that are lying around on our heritage sites.”
The federal government has been contacted for response."

An Australian Army Recruit sends home a letter...
Dear Ma & Pa,
I am well. Hope youse are too. Tell me big brothers Doug and Phil that the Army is better than workin’ on the farm - tell them to get in quick smart before the jobs are all gone! I wuz a bit slow in settling down at first, because ya don’t hafta get outta bed until 6 am. But I like sleeping in now, cuz all ya gotta do before brekky is make ya bed and shine ya boots and clean ya uniform. No cows to milk, no calves to feed, no feed to stack - nothin’!! Ya haz gotta shower though, but its not so bad, coz there’s lotsa hot water and even a light to see what ya doing!
At brekky ya get cereal, fruit and eggs but there’s no kangaroo steaks or possum stew like wot Mum makes. You don’t get fed again until noon and by that time all the city boys are dead because we’ve been on a ’route march’ - geez its only just like walking to the windmill in the back paddock!!
This one will kill me brothers Doug and Phil with laughter. I keep getting medals for shootin’ - dunno why. The bullseye is as big as a possum’s bum and it don’t move and it’s not firing back at ya like the Johnsons did when our big scrubber bull got into their prize cows before the Ekka last year! All ya gotta do is make yourself comfortable and hit the target! You don’t even load your own cartridges, they comes in lil' boxes, and ya don’t have to steady yourself against the rollbar of the roo shooting truck when you reload!
Sometimes ya gotta wrestle with the city boys and I gotta be real careful coz they break easy - it’s not like fighting with Doug and Phil and Jack and Boori and Steve and Muzza all at once like we do at home after the muster.
Turns out I’m not a bad boxer either and it looks like I’m the best the platoon’s got, and I’ve only been beaten by this one bloke from the Engineers - he’s 6 foot 5 and 15 stone and three pick handles across the shoulders and as ya know I’m only 5 foot 7 and eight stone wringin’ wet, but I fought him till the other blokes carried me off to the boozer.
I can’t complain about the Army - tell the boys to get in quick before word gets around how good it is.
Your loving daughter,
Patricia

INTRODUCING GUESTS Ag Safety Week recognized, and Saskatchewan Headquartered Oil Producers, or as they’re known as SHOP in attendance. Nothing really noteworthy.
PRESENTING PETITIONS (Starts 1:45:00) Betty Nippi-Albright (NDP) The first petition is about the proposed peat moss mine near La Ronge by Quebec-based Lambert Peat Moss. Her constituents are concerned about damage to habitat, including woodland caribou, traplines and drinking water sources. The petitioners request that the government protects the boreal forest and rejects the development.
Fred Bradshaw (SaskParty) accuses the Liberal-NDP federal government of infringing on the province's constitutional rights and impeding its potential to provide resources to the world market. The signatories request that the Legislative Assembly calls upon the Government of Saskatchewan to implement Saskatchewan-first policies and legislation.
\NOTE: The federal NDP and Liberals have a confidence and supply agreement. All are elected officials that are representing their bases, and working together. To my knowledge, all court cases against the federal government regarding the constitution have failed. This appears to be repeated daily without merit.*
https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/confidence-and-supply Vickie Mowat (NDP) Calls for the development of a suicide prevention strategy, suicide rates remain high, particularly among Indigenous people and in the north. The petitioners ask that the government works with community organizations and leaders in the North to develop Saskatchewan's suicide prevention strategy. Suicide is second leading cause of death for youth aged 15-34. 1913 suicides in SK over 10, indigineous rates are 4x higher. Immediate call for the province to work with leaders in the north to create a strategy.
Nathanial Tweed (NDP) Petition calling on the Government of Saskatchewan to introduce legislation to prohibit conversion therapy. The undersigned residents would like to bring to our attention that conversion therapy is a discredited and abusive practice which attempts to actively change the sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression of an individual; the practice of conversion therapy or reparative therapy is seriously harmful to individuals and is opposed by the psychological and psychiatric associations across North America and the world.
Jennifer Bowes (NDP) Saskatchewan has some of the highest 12-20 year old pregnancy rates, and she calls for universal access to birth control. Cites this saves money on reproductive health care.
STATEMENTS BY MEMBERS Erike Ritchie (NDP) Acknowledges a constituent for winning a medal for activism in suicide prevention. Notes that he tried to meet with the premier after the suicide prevention bill by the SaskParty government, but eventually passed in 2021.
Daryl Harrison (SaskParty) Talks about Ag Week and brings up mental health and Sask Farm Stress Line.
Nicole Sarauer (NDP) Praises Quan Ngon Vietnamese Restaurant as local entrepreneur.
David Buckingham (SaskParty) Raising awareness for incurable myeloma patients in Sask, we get 80 a year, and welcomes a constituent that received treatment and therapies.
Delbert Kirsch (SaskParty) Speaks about Commonwealth Day and the importance of the shared values of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law that keep the Commonwealth nations united. Talks about democracy and human rights.
Fred Bradshaw (SaskParty) New television production called Guardians of the North, which showcases the stories of Saskatchewan’s wildfire and emergency responders. He emphasizes the collaborative work between emergency service providers and encourages viewers to tune in to learn more about these brave men and women.
Colleen Young (SaskParty) Reports on the employment numbers in Saskatchewan, with 2,600 more jobs added since last month and 9,400 more since February 2022. She notes that this is the 23rd straight month of year-over-year growth and highlights the increase in employment in various sectors, including professional, scientific, and technical services, health care and social assistance, and accommodation, food, and educational services. She expresses confidence that the government will meet its goal of creating 100,000 new jobs by the end of the decade.
\NOTE: The unemployment in February was 4.3, and rolled over to 5 for March. There was a reduction in full time employment. She is also citing year over year, and there were pandemic restrictions affecting business this time last year. I know around 500 were SLGA workers no longer employed.*

She asks when the Premier will take responsibility for this record of failure. Moe, responds by pointing out that various forecasts predict nation-leading growth, including job creation, GDP, and exports. He emphasises that his government is focused on growth that works for everyone and provides opportunities for Saskatchewan people, but doesn’t disagree with his last place economic record. Beck argues that the Premier's focus on the future ignores his past record, which she claims is dead last in the country on the economy and job creation. She questions whether Saskatchewan people deserve better than a Premier who talks a good game but fails to deliver good-paying jobs. The Premier counters that population and job growth have improved over the last decade, with 1.21 million people in the province and 2,600 jobs added in February alone, citing the pre-1991 NDP record, and offering future solutions, not results. He highlights the low unemployment rate, which is the second lowest among all provinces in Canada.
\NOTE: She’s right, he does have the worst numbers in the country over the past five years. References to statcan.*
\While our unemployment rates are low, we have the second lowest interprovincial migration, which is decreasing annually. Population growth is being driven by international migration, and we have the lowest retention rate in the country.*
https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/t1/tbl1/en/tv.action?pid=1710002201 FUNDING FOR POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION (2:06:14) Carla Beck vs Gordon Wyant
Beck accuses the government of underfunding public schools and post-secondary institutions, leading to a shortage of skilled workers in the province. She asks the Premier if he realises that his actions have contributed to the problem. Wyant denies that there have been any cuts to the University of Regina and states that there is a historic four-year funding agreement with institutions. He expresses confidence in the university's president and executive team to work through their budget challenges without cutting programs or classes.
\NOTE: The President of the University Faculty Assoc attended the Leg March 9th to discuss the cuts and ask for a meeting with Wyant to prevent the cutting, we don’t know if that happened or had meaningful outcome. They can deny cuts, but if they didn’t cut, why is the UofR cutting? If anyone wants to find the budget line items, I’ll link them.*
PRIVATE HEALTHCARE Carla Beck and Vickie Mowat vs Payl Merriman (2:07:51) Centered on the province's private-pay health care scheme. The government has passed a bill allowing residents to pay out of pocket for MRI and CT scans. However, Health Canada announced that it would withhold funding for Saskatchewan's health care system because the province had violated the Canada Health Act by introducing the private-pay system. Beck, asked the Premier to abandon the scheme, citing a 63% increase in average wait times for MRIs since its introduction. Merriman defended the policy, stating that it had provided 15,000 scans paid for by Saskatchewan people, which had reduced wait times for surgeries. He argued that the federal government was taking away tools for the province to address health care pressures. Mowat alleging that the government was breaking the law, while Merriman accused the NDP of being stuck in outdated ideology, insisted that the policy had received overwhelming support from Saskatchewan voters, while the NDP argued that the government's policy had drawn resources away from the public system, leading to longer wait times for all. Merriman insists that the people of Saskatchewan want private for pay healthcare, and accuses NDP of protecting public care as an ideology, and states “ We take our direction from the people of Saskatchewan who had the privilege of putting us in here, Mr. Speaker, certainly not from Justin Trudeau.”, and he says that a few times. Mowat insists that funding the public system is an option, but the government is refusing. Merrimen says it’s ok for them to do this because other provinces are also doing the same thing, and claims that the NDP started private care. She also asks him to take big corporation money out of politics. He deflects and doesn’t answer these questions, uses strawman arguments, again cites the federal government. This is worth watching.

FOOD PRICING Trent Wortherspoon vs David Marit 2:22:00 Wotherspoon expressed concern that the prices of meat were rising, but producers weren't seeing those dollars, as they were being taken by big out-of-province anticompetitive meat packers and supply chains. He called on the government to investigate food and meat pricing to deliver fairness for producers and consumers, citing drought and no more money going to producers.
The Minister of Agriculture, Marit, attributed the rise in food prices to the carbon tax, which he claimed was a tax on every portion of food grown in the province, says this is due to Trudeau.
Wotherspoon, criticised the minister for being weak for the producers and consumers of the province on this file and standing up for the out-of-province, anticompetitive meat packers instead of the producers in the province. He referenced former Premier Brad Wall's statement that hearings would never hurt, and the provincial governments, especially in the West, would line up in favour of having a look at this. He urged the government to act for producers and consumers and investigate what is going on with meat prices.
OVERDOSE NUMBERS - MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICTIONS Vicki Mowat vs Everette Hindley 2:25:06 In this conversation, Ms. Mowat, a member of the legislative assembly, expresses concern over the increasing number of overdose deaths in the province, with 103 suspected overdose deaths in just Jan and Feb this year, compared to 2016 were there were 109 for the entire year. She criticises the government for not having a plan to address the issue and asks when they will deliver a mental health and addictions strategy that works for everyone.
Hindley (Minister of Mental Health and Addictions), acknowledges the severity of the situation and states that the government is making record investments in this area. He mentions that they are close to announcing the first phase of additional treatment-space capacity to provide more access to long-term rehabilitation and recovery options across the province. He also mentions that they are investing in overdose outreach teams and expanding access to naloxone across the province. He says they are making future plans to address these problems, such as operational overdose outreach teams, drug-checking devices, and expanding access to naloxone. He also mentions that additional investments will be made in next week's budget.
\NOTES: Budget 2023: Mental Health and Addictions will receive a significant increase of $9.5 million in 2022-23, including $8 million for targeted initiatives to improve services and supports. Wotherspoon praises the government for this negotiation with the federal government. He presses them to improve retention of migrants, 40% leave within 5 years. Previously we had a 78-80% retention rate. Ontario is over 90%. Also cites class sizes, the need for English as a second language. Otherwise he is in full support.

MESSAGE FROM HIS MAJESTY KING CHARLES III 2:35:36 Randy Weekes (Speaker of the House)
I don’t care about this at all; the verbatim is in the debates link at the top, or you can watch it.
ORDERS OF THE DAY (2:39:09) Bill No. 103 — The Accessible Saskatchewan Act 2:40:35 Meara Conway (NDP) Second reading. Ms. Conway, the designated critic for disability issues on the opposition side, spoke in favour of the bill but identified several concerns raised by the disability and disability support communities, including the lack of prioritisation of the lived experience of people living with disability in the advisory board, the lack of detailed plan for rolling the standards out, the lack of teeth or mechanisms to ensure compliance, the lack of sufficient scope of the bill, and the absence of detailed plans on how service and procurement standards will apply to distinct areas such as healthcare, education, and housing. Conway also discussed other jurisdictions that have done a good job of ensuring that the burden of making the private sector more accessible does not fall solely on small businesses, and how this could improve the outcomes of the private sector, especially with a greater clientele and a better reputation within the community. She did give credit to the SaskParty government, but wants them to improve what’s lacking, including the impact of the loss of the STC.
Bill No. 106 — The Police Amendment Act, 2022 2:40:00 Nicole Sarauer (NDP) Sarauer, raises concerns about the lack of consultation with leaders in policing in Saskatchewan and the government's desire to expand the definition of what a type of member would be, create an alternate governing structure beyond traditional police boards, and give themselves more flexibility to intervene in circumstances where they're not happy with how municipal police services are operating. She also criticises the government for disrespecting the work and independence of police forces in Saskatchewan, and for announcing the creation of the marshals service, a new policing body from scratch, rather than properly and adequately funding the RCMP, as they have requested many times. She also cites the take over of Leg security, and how other places do the same, but they aren’t democracies. Relates the term “Marshalls” (referring to new police services) as American terms, which is an interesting notice.
Unanimously YEA by SaskParty and Wilson (independant), NDP unanimous No against. Passed.
*NOTE: Background of partisan security at leg.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/sask-legislative-security-1.6448723 Also note that this was never campaigned on, there is no mandate for this action.
Bill No. 107 — The Provincial Protective Services Act 3:00:35 Nicole Sarauser (NDP) Proposes to centralise different policing bodies under one umbrella. Sarauer raised concerns about the legislation's operation, specifically who will be covered and who will not be covered.
Bill No. 108 — The Pension Benefits Amendment Act, 2022 3:02:02 Doyle Vermette (NDP) Vermette notes that many people in the province have a pension benefit, whether they work for the government, different agencies, or the private sector. The aim of the pension benefit is to ensure that individuals have a secure and comfortable retirement. The government has introduced 31 new fees and taxes on seniors who are pensioners, which could impact their ability to make ends meet. He believes that it is important to ensure that pensions are taken care of and looked after so that people can afford to live and pay their bills.
He acknowledges that there may be changes in times, both federally and provincially, which might require amendments to pension benefits, and wants to ensure that officials and the minister explain the reasons behind the proposed changes and the powers that are being given to certain individuals. He notes that the opposition and the critic will be asking questions about the changes to ensure that pensions are protected, and seniors are looked after.
He notes that many Saskatchewan residents do not have a defined pension and are struggling to make ends meet. He believes that it is important to have a fair wage to be able to provide for one's family. He notes that many people are working two or more jobs just to pay their bills, and the government is raising power rates and fees, making it even more difficult for citizens who are struggling to pay rent to cover their monthly bills.
Bill No. 109 — The Trespass to Property Amendment Act, 2022 3:07:14 Vickie Mowatt (NDP) Mowat expressed her disappointment with the proposed changes in the legislation, which prohibits the federal government from trespassing on private land. She argued that the government is using this incident for political purposes and treating its own citizens irresponsibly just to score political points. She also expressed her concern over the violent and hateful comments made on social media hosted by the government. She noted she believes in rights and dignity of landowners and wants to work with stakeholders and protect all parties.
Bill No. 116 — The Plant Health Act 3:10:18 Betty Nippii-Albright (NDP) She highlights that the minister can declare any animal, insect, or disease that is dangerous to plants or crops as a pest and appoint pest control officers to take care of it, order the destruction of at-risk plants, and declare a state of emergency. She also notes that the ministry must pay for the destroyed crops. Municipalities can appoint pest control officers and order compliance, but the ministry's regulations supersede the municipal bylaws.
Ms. Nippi-Albright expresses her concern about pests causing food scarcity and price increase, emphasising the importance of preventing and containing any pests that threaten farmers' crops. She raises questions about the lack of collaboration between the government or the ministry and municipalities in making changes to legislation that could potentially impact them. She is interested in knowing how municipalities, First Nations, and Métis communities are being engaged in this process, especially since there are many Indigenous farmers in the community.
The Saskatchewan Firearms Act 3:13:31 Trent Wotherspoon (NDP) Wotherspoon from Regina Rosemont expressed his concerns with the overreach of the federal government on firearms bans and actions, and accuses them of having a poor understanding of this front in our province. He emphasised the practical relationship that Saskatchewan people have with firearms, including the importance of long guns to heritage activities like hunting and trapping, the significance of firearms to First Nations and Indigenous peoples who exercise their treaty rights, and the practical tool that firearms provide on a farm. Mentioned that Premier Romanow's government never supported the gun registry and stood up for firearm owners in Saskatchewan. He urged that First Nations and Métis people should be consulted on this legislation because they have a practical relationship with long guns in the province. He is personally a hunter and a member of the Sask Wildlife Federation.
The Warrant Compliance Act 3:17:46 Nathanial Tweed (NDP) Legislation aimed at providing more resources and authority for warrant enforcement in Saskatchewan, particularly for violent offenders. Seeks to establish an investigation unit within the ministry that would investigate and issue orders to social-spending ministries to cut benefits for violent offenders with outstanding warrants. These benefits can be suspended or reduced by the benefits administrator, but they may exercise judgement if cutting benefits would cause significant hardship. The bill also allows the investigation unit to demand location information of violent offenders from any government institution.
While the bill is supported as an additional tool to apprehend violent offenders, concerns were raised regarding the lack of definitions for key terms such as "prolific violent offenders" and "significant hardship." There were also concerns about the impact of the ministry's orders on families and children caught in the criminal justice system, as well as the powers of the ministry to share information and demand location information. The member also expressed concerns about tough-on-crime legislation intersecting with social programs and the need to address the root causes of crime, such as poverty, homelessness, and mental health.
Bill No. 122 — The Saskatchewan Revenue Agency Act 3:21:40 Jennifer Bowes (NDP) Creates a new Crown corporation. Expressed concern about the vagueness of the bill and the lack of clear indication as to why the government is creating its own revenue agency, which appears to be redundant and wasteful. The member criticised the government for spending more and more of Saskatchewan people's hard-earned dollars on petty legislation that does not have meaningful value to the majority of the people in the province. She wants to know why they are creating this bill, they don’t have a mandate for it, and they have no meaningful value. The opposition did not support the bill. Fringe and out of touch.
Bill No. 124 — The Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Amendment Act 3:24:30 Betty Nippi-Albright (NDP) Proposes to give municipalities and regional parks the authority to designate outdoor public spaces as drinking areas and also allowing special occasion liquor licences to serve homemade beer and wine. The re-corking laws are also being modernised. The Member from Saskatoon Centre, Ms. Nippi-Albright, expresses her views on the Bill. She points out that there have been mixed reviews and responses from stakeholders regarding the Bill's impact on municipalities. Municipalities have raised concerns about the added responsibilities this Bill would bring. She also raises concerns about the potential for increased risks associated with alcohol consumption, such as drunk driving and sexual assault, particularly in Indigenous communities where alcohol has caused havoc. She notes the significance of consulting with those who will be impacted by the legislation.
Bill No. 125 — The Cannabis Control Amendment Act, 2022 3:29:14 Jennifer Bowes (NDP) Proposes the creation of First Nations cannabis authorities to regulate on-reserve cannabis retail and distribution. The authorities will have the same regulatory powers as off-reserve, including setting prices, hiring minors, issuing permits, and imposing fines. The difference is that these First Nations authorities will not have to apply for permits from the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority. She spoke Saskatoon University spoke in favor of the bill, stating that it makes sense to turn over jurisdiction to First Nations. She also expressed hope for more relinquishing of settler jurisdiction over First Nations in the province, specifically in child welfare. The Assembly agreed to adjourn debate on the bill. Calls for more consultation.
Bill No. 126 — The Summary Offences Procedure Amendment Act 3:31:55 Matt Love (NDP)
Changes included in the amendments will benefit First Nations communities by allowing them to enforce their own laws and bylaws on reserve and move away from required court appearances for certain small convictions. He expresses hope that this will be a positive step towards self-government and self-autonomy for Indigenous nations in Saskatchewan.

Conway asks: Who benefits from this privatisation, he didn’t answer the question, she goes on the claim the took $26,000 from private MRI companies. She also asks him to take big corporation money out of politics. He deflects and doesn’t answer these questions, uses strawman arguments, again cites the federal government. This is worth watching.

2023.03.21 01:58 Special-Leave-1344 Given a name by your community.
Looking for tales and feelings from PCTs, PCVs, and RPCVs
How common was it in your county to be given a new name? Did you get a new name? If you did, or didn't and wanted one, how did that make you feel?
Guess from a personal standpoint I'm conflicted about being given a "Moroccan" name.
On one hand it means I've been welcomed in and that my host family and community members think I'm deserving of one. I do try to look at it as a place of acceptance.
At the same time, I can't help but feel annoyed by it. I have a name, a perfectly good name. I think there is power in names and sometimes I'm frustrated because I think they gave me it because it's too hard to pronounce my actual name. I'd rather they butcher my real name and try , instead of rename me.
I know some cohort members openly love and embrace their new names. Some of them I think the new name really fits them even. Which is beautiful, but I can only imagine a new volunteer showing up at their site, not liking or wanting a new name and the community members comparing.
I also wonder if there's anyone who doesn't have a host country name and wishes they did. And if you do why?
Guess I'm just looking for some perspective and viewpoints from others :)

2023.03.21 01:44 almost_homeless1 Purchased a car for my mom and it was in an accident
Hi, I purchased a car for my mom two years ago because she wanted to buy a house/leave her husband and did not have a vehicle or credit to buy a new one. She insured the car and things were good. We planned on refinancing it in June and putting the car solely in her name because her credit is great and her husband is no longer in the picture.
Unfortunately about a month ago, she went to visit friends in my area and asked my partner to drop her off at a bar (I didn’t take her because I wasn’t home in time) and as she was exiting the car someone in a stolen car struck the vehicle.
The bad news: the driver was an 11 year old and the car was an enterprise rental car.
I am really unsure what to do as the car is in my name and USAA and Enterprise have been pretty much unresponsive.
I wish I knew what I know now or else I would’ve purchased her a cash car but I’m worried that I am screwed financially.
No one has even given her a rental car and she’s been having to spend so much money on Uber. I want to get her a rental but it is so expensive weekly.
Her insurance adjuster’s phone goes straight to voicemail and no phone calls have been returned. I am not sure what to do.
We live in Georgia.

2023.03.21 01:42 TheManIsNonStop [EVENT] The King is Dead! Long Live the Duke!
December 1508 Among the many hobbies of René de Lorraine was hunting. An avid hunter (and a significantly less avid ruler), he would often spend large portions of the winter and the spring in residence at his properties in northern France, hawking and hunting the months away. The cold air, he found, was rejuvenating for his soul, even as it set his joints aching.
More importantly, though, in recent years it gave René time to bond with his older sons, who resided now at Blois. While they would not spend the whole season with him in Fains (his preferred hunting lodge in the County of Aumale), the trip there was much shorter than that to Bar-le-Duc or Nancy. When they found time, Antoine and Claude would steal away from court for the weekends, spending what time with their father that they could. Self-interest aside (what father did not want to see his children when he could?) René knew that sooner or later, he would die. A close relationship between his eldest sons, who stood to inherit different components of his demesne, was critical to the longevity of their House.
It was on one of these hunting trips that René met his end. Shortly after arriving at Fains towards the end of November, René complained to his personal physician of a heaviness in his chest. Over the next week, he would be beset by a powerful cough and fever. His physician tried all he could to save the King's life, including several leechings (necessitating a quick trip to nearby Vertix, as he had not brought leeches with him), but his efforts were in vain.
On 10 December 1508 at the age of 57, René II de Lorraine, King of Jerusalem and Sicily, Duke of Lorraine and Bar, Count of Aumale and Vaudémont and Toul, Marquis of Pont-à-Mousson and Nomény, Baron of Mayenne and Elbeuf and Lambesc, Lord of Joinville, went to God in the presence of his three eldest sons, Antoine, Claude, and Jean. Having ruled Lorraine since 1473 and Bar since 1483, his death marks the end of of an era.
From Fains, the King's remains were hurried to Vertix, where they were embalmed and wrapped in
cerecloth for the journey back to Nancy. René's legitimized uncle and lifelong friend, Jean de Vaudémont (a veteran of the Battle of Nancy), was tasked with speeding the message of the King's passing to Bar-le-Duc (where his wife and younger children resided), and then on to the Swiss Confederacy to secure an honor guard for the funeral. Antoine, Claude, and Jean, meanwhile, returned to Blois to make arrangements for a brief return home for the funeral. They would rendezvous with the King's remains later.
The King's remains, though, made straight for Bar-le-Duc, where he had held his court for most of his reign. They were received there by his grieving widow, Philippe de Guelders, and his younger children, Louis, Yolande, and Louise.
A company of Reisläufer, freshly dispatched from the Confederacy, met them there a few days thereafter. The strangest thing about this detachment, fifty men strong, was their age: the majority of the Reisläufer here has served under the King in some capacity, either alongside him in the Burgundian Wars, or as one of his personal guards in the decades thereafter, or in any one of the many small skirmishes the King had taken part in in his years before the Ewiger Landfriede had put an end to such things. Returned now to lay the King their had fought alongside to rest, their age did not dull their halberds nor tarnish their uniforms, and they looked every part the King's honor guard.
At Bar-le-Duc, the King's remains were transferred to a new carriage, drawn by six handsome red horses harnessed in black velvet, emblazoned with the Cross of Anjou in white, and led by five municipal officials, carrying torches and the King's coat of arms. This carriage, accompanied by the King's family, his most loyal retainers, and his Swiss honor guard, traveled the winding road between Bar-le-Duc and Nancy. The procession was joined at every village it passed through by a few dozen mourners. Most would accompany the procession only for a day or two before returning home, but some, eager to see their King one last time (or perhaps eager instead to receive some of the charity that was rumored to be doled out at his funeral), would travel all the way to Nancy. When the procession finally arrived at the Porte de la Craffe and passed into the walls of Nancy, it numbered some one thousand strong.
In Nancy, the King's remains, carefully preserved during his travels home, were laid in state for five days in the
Church of Saint-François-des-Cordeliers, where mourners were allowed to pay their respects during the day. There, he looked every part a King, dressed in robes of ermine and a crown, his hands wrapped around a royal scepter on his chest. To preserve his remains, the King was covered again in cerecloth during the night. At all hours, a dozen Reisläufer stood at attention over his remains, watching on as mourners came and went.
The funeral itself finally came in late December, after enough time had been given for mourners (or their representatives) to travel from across the Empire and France. Starting early in the morning, five Masses were said, the final one by the King's long-time advisor, friend, and the President of the Estates-General of Lorraine, the Bishop of Toul
Hugues des Hazards. At the conclusion of the fifth and final Mass, the mourners were dismissed to a sumptuous banquet held in the banquet hall of the Ducal Palace (one of the few rooms where the renovations,
ongoing since 1505, had already been completed). The King's remains occupied the place of honor at the table, dressed still in ermine and crown.
At the conclusion of the banquet, the mourners cross the street once more to the Church of Saint-François-des-Cordeliers,
where the King's body is finally laid to rest in an enfeu near the altar--perhaps some 200 meters away from his famous foe
Charles the Bold, whose remains lie buried in
Collégiale Saint-Georges de Nancy, the church on the
other side of the ducal palace.
As the church bells of the Church of the Cordeliers toll, signifying the final departure of the King of Jerusalem and Sicily, his subjects cry out in unison (though the subjects of France are notably mute, given the treason such a statement might imply). Their words betray the magnitude of his passing.
The King is Dead! Long live the Duke!
In accordance with his last will and testament, penned in 1506, King René II de Lorraine's estate is divided thusly.
His eldest son, Antoine de Lorraine, 19, inherits all those titles lying in whole or in part outside of the Kingdom of France, those being: the Duchy of Lorraine, the Duchy of Bar, the County of Toul, the County of Vaudémont, the Marquisate of Pont-à-Mousson, and the Marquisate of Nomény. Notably, though the will also leaves Antoine several other titles (most notably the Kingdoms of Jerusalem and Sicily) and further claims (the Duchy of Luxembourg and the County of Burgundy), Antoine chooses to exclude these from his styles, instead maintaining the style of Duke of Calabria, the traditional title of the heir apparent to Naples. Furthermore, his will explicitly forbids his Antoine and his successors from ever splitting the inheritance of Lorraine and Bar. From this day forth, the titles shall be inherited as one--though their administrations still remain separate.
His second son, Claude de Lorraine, 14, inherits all those titles lying in the Kingdom of France, those being: the County of Aumale, the Barony of Mayenne, the Barony of Elbeuf, the Barony of Lambesc, and the Lordship of Joinville. All but Lambesc (which is in Provence) lie in northern France, and while none could on their own be considered a significant inheritance, they constitute a considerable appenage when joined. Until Claude comes of age, these territories shall be governed by his mother as regent.
His third son, Jean de Lorraine, 12, inherits only the moveable property left to René by the former Bishop of Toul, Olry de Blâmont. As the Prince-Bishop of Metz, he does not inherit a share of his father's titles.
His fourth and final son, Louis de Lorraine, 8, inherits only the funds, books, and so on necessary for his education in the Church. Originally, he was set to inherit the County of Vaudémont as an appanage. However, as Louis was elected Prince-Bishop of Verdun a few short months before René's death, this clause was voided, and Vaudémont was passed to Antoine instead.
His two living daughters, Yolande, 6, and Louise, 4, inherit sufficient silks, dresses, jewelry, and other womanly worldly things required for their upbringing, as well as their dowries (conveniently unspecified), which are to be held in trust by Antoine until they are married.
His widow, Philippe de Guelders, 41, inherits the Chateau de Lunéville and its associated revenues, which will be held in trust by Antoine in order to keep her in comfort for the remainder of her days. As she is significantly younger than René, it is expected that she will outlive her husband by at least a decade, if not more, and will continue to play an active role in politics and in the family over that time.
His cousin, Ferry de Vaudémont, 20, the baseborn son of his legitimized uncle Jean de Vaudémont and a close confidante of Antoine, is left a sum of 1,000 (military) florins, to be used equip himself as a knight, and to provide for him as he makes a name for himself in the world.
The Gymnasium Vosagense, the ongoing project of René's former secretary and chaplain, current Master of Mines, and long-time friend, Vautrin Lud, is left a sum of 25,000 (civilian) florins, to be used to promote the Arts and Sciences in Lorraine.
Summary
René II de Lorraine is dead. He is succeeded in the Empire by his eldest son Antoine, and in France by his second son Claude. Notably, Antoine does not assume his father's place as King of Jerusalem and Sicily, instead preferring to use the title of the heir apparent, the Duke of Calabria. He also pays out 1,000 (military) florins to his baseborn cousin, and 25,000 (civilian) florins to a gymnasium to promote the Arts and Sciences in Lorraine.

2023.03.21 01:37 BroadIntroduction575 Clarification on Landlord's Acceleration of Rent Clause [Texas]
Tl;dr want to break lease and am unclear on how much it will cost. Based on some clauses in the lease below, it seems like even broaching the topic with my landlord would trigger an acceleration of rent due and I'd rather not pay 7 month's rent all at once. Hey everyone, first of all thanks for clicking on my post. I looked though the sidebar and this seems like the right place to post but if there's a better place, let me know! I'm weighing the pros and cons of breaking my lease right now for personal reasons and am trying to figure out how much it would cost me. Nowhere in my lease is there a direct lease-breaking payoff amount, instead there are a few relevant clauses I'm unclear on.
From what is stated in the sections I've pasted below, giving my intent to move our prior to end of the lease immediately triggers all remaining rent due. However on the next clause, it states that I "shall remain liable for all rents due," which seems to imply I would continue to pay the monthly cost of renting until a new tenant is found or until my lease expires, whichever comes first. To me, this seems contradictory (e.g. do I need to shell out 6k right now or can I continue to pay 1k/month?). The bigger problem is that it seems like even asking my landlord about a payoff amount to break the lease (if there is one) would trigger the accelerated rent clause.
Additionally, I would be responsible for paying the costs to relet the unit which seems very reasonable, although there is another contradiction between the 2 clauses: 1.23 suggests that the maximum is 85% of one month's rent, but 1.24 simply states it "shall not exceed one month's rent," implying it could be up to the full amount.
Also, in the event that no tenant is found, I would be on the hook for the entire remaining rent? This could definitely be the case but seems far more punitive than what I have seen in previous leases where there is a cost to break the lease that usually equates to ~3 month's rent. I understand that the landlord is expected to make a good faith attempt to relet the unit, so in a best-case scenario where a new tenant moves in a month later, I would only pay 1 month's rent + the reletting fee described above. But still, the risk in reletting makes it much harder to accurately budget for.
Thanks again for reading, I appreciate any and all advice!
- 1.23 Acceleration of rent
In the event Tenant, prior to the end of the term of this Lease, or extension or renewal thereof, (i) abandons the Premises, (ii) gives owner verbal or written notice of intent to move out prior to the end of the lease term or renewal or extension thereof, (iii) removes property in contemplation of moving out, or (iv) is judicially evicted, all monthly rentals for the remainder of the lease term or renewal or extension period shall be accelerated automatically without notice or demand, and shall immediately become due and payable. For Example, if Tenant has a 12 month lease at $1000 per month rent, and commits one of the actions described above in (i)-(iv), having only paid $6000 in rent after 6 months, the remainder of $6000 unpaid rent becomes immediately due and payable.
In the event Tenant abandons the Premises under the above-mentioned circumstances, Owner reserves the right to charge Tenant for costs to lease the Premises to another tenant, an amount equal to 85% of one month's rent.
- 1.24 Reletting of premises
If Tenant is evicted or moves out and all rent is not paid in full for the entire lease term or renewal or extension period, Tenant shall remain liable for all rents due, and shall also be charged for costs of reletting the Premises, which reletting costs shall not exceed one month's rent. Owner shall attempt to relet the Premises, and all rentals received from such reletting, if any, shall be credited against Tenant's liability for future rentals. Such reletting shall not relieve Tenant of Tenant's obligation to pay all rent due.

2023.03.21 01:35 Imaginary_Fall_9512 Am I the jerk for taking my rental car from a selfish guy?
I live in Virginia with my family and we usually go on an annual trip to Florida because we like the weather down there.
After we get off our flight and grab our things, we go to the parking garage for our rental car. We go to the floor it’s on and we look for a car. However, the rental company makes it so that whatever car has it’s trunk open, we can take. My family paid for a Full-Sized SUV and we didn’t want a Honda Civic or a Pick-up Truck (due to the fact it will rain the day we leave).
We waited a while to find a car we paid for, but one never came in. We go up to a rental staff member and ask if we could have an SUV, he says ”okay” and leaves. Shortly after, my partner found a Dodge Charger and put our two kids in the back. I tell them I’m gonna find a new car and I leave.
The staff member finally pulls up with a Full-Sized SUV and I wave it down to come in my direction. However, on the opposite side of me, a guy (about in his mid-40s) looks at me and looks at the car, and shouts “Over here!” and tries to wave the car down. I look at him and I tell him, “Excuse me, but I’ve been here longer than you and I asked for this SUV.” He looks at me and he turns beet red and says. “Well, I don’t care. I’ve got places to be and this is my car and I don’t care.” This is when my partner steps out the car to come and assist me. At this point, several staff are over at our location asking what’s wrong. The guy looks at the staff and says “This stupid person is trying to steal the car I need and I’ve been here longer than them.” This is when I get angry. This guy was lying to these staff over a car. The argument goes on for a while until his 15 year old daughter steps out the car and looks at me with a “I’m so sorry this is happening” look. She tries to pull him backwards and quietly tell him it’s not worth it, clearly embarrassed. I had been talking to the girl earlier as well about how complicated the company made it to get a car. He finally shouts at everyone that they’re all idiots and he shouts at me “You want the car? Fine, you can have it!” And storms off.

2023.03.21 01:35 MagnusTory I'm confused. I feel like I'm failing in all aspects in my life.
I'm not sure where to put this, or if anyone will even see it, but I guess I might feel a little better about writing this all out. I'm just a lost teenager looking for a little hope.
I feel frustrated and confused every day. I don't know what I'm doing with my life.
For a bit of background, I'm a first-year student studying CS in college. I have a great internship, an amazing girlfriend, and a pretty privileged life overall. I feel like I shouldn't be complaining, as I've been incredibly lucky in life in many ways that I don't think I deserve.
Right now, though, I feel like my life might fall apart at any moment.
First, in terms of my academics, I'm not sure what's gone on recently. I really just don't feel smart anymore. I'm a CS major so being good at coding is a necessity, and while I think I was that way in high school, I just don't feel I'm at that level anymore with the coursework I'm taking. I took college-level classes in high school which transferred over and gave me credit to skip to higher-level classes in college, but I'm finding myself increasingly lost now. I'm also not super hardworking, and I feel like I just keep spiraling down and becoming lazier as I'm unable to cope with the difficulty of classes, which leads me to get lots of help and not learn things properly, which makes my understanding of new content weaker, and keeps this cycle going and pushing me down. I've had to copy code from friends for some assignments that I definitely should be thorough with, and although I was doing well in exams earlier, I've been screwing up a lot lately. I'm really scared something may come back to bite me anytime and fundamentally mess my entire life up.
If this continues going downward and I start failing exams... I feel like I might just have to drop out of college. Which would kill me. I've worked really hard to get to this point, and I don't want to lose everything I've spent my life doing. I don't even have a close friend circle to support me and basically spent all my time focusing on academics hoping that I'd stand out. Right now though, I'm not even doing that properly and I feel utterly useless as a person.
I don't like CS much anyways. I think I'm fairly good at it and have done well so far, but my interests are way more in the humanities and arts. I love art, music and literature, and studying the classics would have probably been my chosen pursuit. However, those fields are looked down upon socially, especially in my immigrant community, and I'd also want to have a stable and well-paying job so I guess I'm alright with doing CS even if it's not my favourite thing out there.
In terms of my future, I have huge aspirations. I want to work in quantitative research (basically a combination of tech and finance) which is super difficult to get into. I'm currently studying at a university in the US that's ranked pretty well, but it's been a dream of mine to do a postgraduate degree at Cambridge since high school. I'm also itching to settle permanently to the UK as soon as I can; I've wanted to live in London all my life, and I personally have a huge interest in British culture. I feel like these dreams are far-fetched, especially when I don't even have a hold on what I'm doing in my life right now. I have a weird mentality that I can't come out 'average' like everyone else out there... I need to be outstanding in some way and I really want my life to go the way I want it to. It feels like I'm just living my life right now to get to that moment when this all comes true. I fear that if it all doesn't... I'd just feel like a massive failure. I already feel like one and I'm just hoping this all comes around to take me out of it.
As for my personal life, I've been in a long-distance relationship for a year or so now. I love my girlfriend, but having a relationship while trying to get my life sorted out feels super stressful sometimes. We're completely secret too (our parents don't approve of dating... and it feels like we're basically just in it for marriage), and there's a constant fear of being found out. She's the best support I've ever had in my life, but being in a long-distance relationship also has made me lose most of my genuine connection with friends. Since last year, I've basically stopped talking to anyone else regularly over text or phone, and since starting college I've basically spent my free evenings talking to her instead of going to parties or socialising with other people. I don't want to lose how close I am with her, but I sometimes feel frustrated with how much time I give the relationship. She's also super understanding and really wants me to go out and socialise more, but I can't do that without spending much less time with her, and I can't get myself to do that either. It also eats out of my academic life sometimes; I had to drop a class last semester because I failed an exam, and when looking back, I basically skipped all the morning lectures for that class because I was talking to her basically every day. I feel horrible about it because she'd understand this completely and do whatever she could to support me, but I've not been responsible enough to take that class seriously. Initially, my academic aspirations were cutting me off from friends, and most 'friends' I did make in high school were pricks that I put up with only because they were the only ones who shared my aspirations.
I guess at a certain level, I'm asking for advice. I've been messing up over and over again. I'm behind academically when that's really been the only thing I've put effort to in my life so far. I'm lost socially since I have no support circle. I feel like a horrible boyfriend for not being able to deal with my relationship and getting frustrated with someone who is actually amazing in every way. My life isn't bad at all compared to what most people have to deal with. I just feel like a piece of shit for not knowing how to deal with all this, and I just can't help but contemplating suicide frequently even if I know it's wrong. I wake up every morning feeling frustrated with myself, and sometimes... I wish I'd just get a heart attack and die already.
This post is a total mess, and I'm not sure half of what I've written out even makes sense, but I'm just wondering if I can find some sort of hope to feel confident in myself and move along somehow.

2023.03.21 01:28 joshpivot2018 I'm (24M) developing a strong connection with a guy (29M) who's in an open relationship
We started chatting in London UK via Instagram when I was visiting there and we kept in touch since he was gonna move here in Toronto. He eventually moved, and we met up for drinks. That first night of what supposed to be just a friendly thing turned into a very intimate date.. we had this chemistry and I genuinely felt calm around him. It was like meeting a soulmate. We talked about our childhood -things I hvent told anyone before. We went home together that night, then continued to hang out throughout the next day.
On the second date night, he communicated that he was in open relationship with a guy in London. He proceeded to say he hope things dont change between us and that he wants me in his life. He then said that considering the move he doesnt know if their relationship’s going to last and that everything is new for him as it was his first open relationship.
I felt disappointed obviously, as I never want to put myself in a position of being a side. At the same time, I dont want to lose the connection we shared so I made the decision to keep him in my life and explore our bond. We’ve done all the datey things since then- cooking together, watching a movie, wine night.
The other day we had a conversation and learned that his partner knows about me and that he was "grateful" for having me in his life. That made me feel weird initially, but come to understand it meant hes being completely transparent with him.
He proceeds to say how much he admired me and that he felt a genuine connection since we met, and reassured me to be honest on how I feel at any point - and that if he had to sit down with his partner to have a conversation about this he would.
I’m having trouble what to do. I’ve come to value our bond together and I like him. We both expressed how much we want to keep each other in our lives - but right now that relationship is undefined.
The other factor is I’m moving to NYC in 2 weeks. I’ll be there for 6 months - so I feel realistically we cant continue our thing in person anyway. At most we’ll be in touch online and he plans to visit me in the summer. Otherwise I wont be coming back to Toronto until October.
It feels like meeting someone special but the timing isnt quite right. I’m worried I’ll fall hard and be hurt 😐 Seeking advice/perspective :’)
