So, I’ve seen a lot about people wondering who makes Dolby Atmos, or “spatial audio” mixes. Is it Apple? Is it Dolby Labs? Well, I decided to make this post to clear up some rumors about the process. I’m someone who has mixed Dolby Atmos and “spatial audio” and I know how it gets done. It’s a common misconception that Dolby Atmos or so called “spatial audio” mixes are made by Apple Music or even Dolby Labs, but this is untrue for any artist. It would be a stretch to say they even do this for top 50 artists, and it would be impossible without these artists submitting the project file, as individual tracks are needed to make Atmos accepted by Dolby (keyword is accepted). You can convert any track into an Atmos format placing it as a 3D object or making the track in “binaural” panning. Apple Music denies doing any work on Atmos when I contacted them about this rumor. Artists and producers make Dolby Atmos using Dolby Atmos rendering tools, which is then exported as a 3D metadata file sent to Dolby for review. Then, once they can confirm it is using Dolby Atmos and has several tracks, the metadata is sent to all streaming platforms that support Atmos and then that platform decodes the Atmos how they want. That is why Dolby can sound different depending on the platform, and why Apple can sync certain headphones that measure movement with the Atmos mix. Lots of music isn’t available in Atmos because it can take several weeks (up to months) to hear back from Dolby. And Dolby has to approve it first. I’m sure one person has been lucky and will talk in the comments about getting it in a few days, but that’s an exception. Plus, the Atmos rendering suite is costly for many smaller artists (it’s around 1,000 dollars). Many distributors (the ones who get artists music onto platforms and the only way to do so besides getting a record deal) refuse to deliver Atmos or have it where the artist must contact support manually once the song has been released to add it on. This is because it is a huge pain to do. You can always message the artist, but understand it is difficult to get, make, and deliver. Don’t trust me? I’ve mixed songs and released them in Atmos myself, so I know exactly how this process works. Feel free to respond if you have any questions.

Epic Games appears to have jumped the gun and revealed the "mystery game" that is set to unlock as a free offering in the Epic Games Store today. In a now-deleted Twitter post, the official Epic Games Store account let the cat out of the bag, saying Grand Theft Auto V will ride into town, and that once you claim it, the game is "yours to keep forever."
Free games on a weekly basis is one of major incentives Epic Games came up with to entice players (and by extension, developers as well) over to its digital distribution platform. Not without controversy, Epic Games also inks exclusive deals, whereby some titles are only available on the Epic Games Store for a period of time before heading over to Steam.
As far as the former goes, GTA V is a pretty big draw still today, five years after it was initially released to PC. It follows Death Coming, a fun and addictive little title that is still free at the time of this writing, until 11:00am ET (8:00am PT).
While Epic Games saw fit to delete its Twitter post revealing GTA V as the next free title, it was captured and archived by Wario64. "Get Grand Theft Auto V free on PC until May 21. Yours to keep forever on the Epic Games Store," the tweet read, accompanied by a video reveal.

According to the countdown timer for a mystery game at the Epic Games Store, GTA V will unlock at 11:00am ET (8:00am PT), the same time Death Coming ceases to be free (or by the time your read this). If you've held off playing all this time, today is your chance to reward your patience.
Some things have changed since we reviewed GTA V. One of the big draws these days is Grand Theft Auto Online, a free online multiplayer extension. In addition to being able to team up on missions, there are role playing servers that add a deeper element, for those who are interested in that sort of thing.
Once the time arrives, head over to the Epic Games Store to claim GTA V.

My brother was diagnosed with tongue cancer. Just a few days prior I had been thinking how I wished I had cancer myself, people would be absurdly nice to me and then I could just go. I could quit the job I hate, lose all the weight I wanted to lose (finally) and just stay at home with my cat until my final moments.
He and I are not close, unfortunately, but what I do know is that he’s not been handling it well, and neither are my parents.
I just wish it was me instead. He just bought a house, in a job he loves, in a place he loves. I could not be more opposite.

It all starts, as most great things do, with a cat.
He was my best friend for almost 2 decades. I spent the better half of the last decade in existential dread about his upcoming death, drawn partially from some health issues he had as a kitten and just from the basic knowledge that, as a cat, he was going to die.
Sometime in that decade of (at times) overwhelming dread, I was diagnosed with cancer, cured of it, and the subsequently diagnosed with some form of "pre cancer" or "concerning growth" 3 or 4 times, leading to genetic tests and oncology visits and full workdowns that stressed what little dignity I had left. It all culminated in a phrase from one of my oncologists that has stuck in my mind like a splinter: "Some people's bodies are just not put together right." Next came the realization that the bell curve of my life expectancy is going to awfully shorter than what I was hopefully planning on and everything that entails.
Growing up, I knew I'd likely not want a kid; just never had that parental gene. Despite the closeness of some of my relationships, I've always treasured my boundaries; here's where I end and you begin sort of thing. Cats are great for that. Dogs? Eh. Kids? Not a chance. Even my almost 20 year relationship with my now wife had pretty explicit boundaries and where our Venn diagrams crossed and where we had our own worlds.
But partially because of the existential dread of the inevitable loss of my best friend and partially because I knew my wife almost assuredly be left alone (ignoring my own shrunken lifespan, her grandparents have all lived to almost 100; she was always going to live me), I decided to have a child. The logic was sound: I wanted him to at least meet my best friend and give me something to help ease his eventual passing and I wanted something to be there for my wife as she moved on to her possible second life without me. Turns out my initial self awareness was spot on: kind of hated being a parent despite loving the kid, didn't like what it did to my world and relationships, and what's more, he was born right after the US quarantine from COVID started!
That first year was rough; I almost ended it a few different times, but my wife needed me, my then 15 year old best friend needed me, and my other cat (whom I love dearly) needed me because she's just a basket case of medical conditions and I'm the primary care person for the cats.
Fast forward from 2020 to 2023: my kid is 3, my wife and I feel less like lovers and more like coworkers where our job is to raise a (admittedly wonderful) toddler, I've been out of work for 2 months because my company nuked all western publishing* , and my best friend died 4 months ago at the age of 17. He was comically healthy for so long, to the point where the emergency vet that I took him to after his first seizure didn't believe me about his age and swore he was no older than 12 or 13. But shit happens fast when you're old; I managed to get his second seizure on camera and his vet immediately diagnosed him with brain cancer. After some tests, his prognosis was 3-6 months, with an outside chance of a year. He was dead in 3 weeks.
*(I was the VP of Data, my opinion on the capabilities of the org had a lot to do with said closing, don't feel bad for me)
Now I'm left in a diminished state: I don't love this new family as much as I loved my old one. I actively dislike my new life, whereas I loved my old one. I don't even have the reptilian chance to be angry at how my cat died! Everything was perfectly normal, he was just old and it was an aggressive cancer, so I'm without a focal point for my anger at the world. Instead, I'm left with directionless pain and a lack of desire to do literally anything.
My wife and I had an argument today about something silly; I wanted to simply talk through some of the things I was going through and what not having a job was doing to me and she tried to immediately go in to problem solving mode, which is explicitly what I didn't want. It escalated because neither of us are in a good place and it ended up with her downstairs and me in our room with one of my straight razors thinking how easy and painless it'd be to simply slice down my left arm. Thinking isn't even the right word; one moment I was leaning against my bed, the next I had the razor in my hand, a cascading waterfall of ambient noise in my ear blocking out all cognition. I finally snapped out of it when I remembered that my other cat (who I have to give chemo to twice a week because she's also dying of cancer, albeit very slowly) needs me and because I made a promise to myself that if I ever killed myself, I wouldn't do it where my wife would be the one to find me.
All I've thought about since is how else I could do it. How easy it would be. What a genuine solution it'd be to everything I've felt. I don't enjoy things anymore. I know I'm depressed, I know there's partial bipolarism, and I can trace the roots of all of my thoughts and feelings to where they come from but ultimately they are all rooted in a material condition that I do not have the ability to change and so they are all valid. I know the possibility for better days exist but I'm not sure it's worth it to ride it out.
I don't know. Sorry for ranting. Sorry for the block of text. I wish it felt better to put it pen to paper.

So it's pretty kinda obvious that they ain't going to give us any updates for this whole raider que/bringing back old lobby debacle so I got a question to ask when they do come back and probably during the Season 3 update should the Devs buff the Raiders so that they can compete with the overgrowing arsenal of new transpheres that the Survivors get (Example:faster cooldown for escape moves /slight increase in speed/health/damage/defense/etc) or should the Survivors be nerfed by making certain abilities go away a bit quicker then normal like an (Example:barrier + instant transmission/mount pan's firewall/power awaken/etc) ?

TL;DR: The DM throws random insane stuff that makes no sense at us until we switch him out.
I've been playing in a D&D group for my college class. The class is only 24 people and 6 of us are in the game. I hadn't played in a few years (I was supposed to play in college but ran into some time overlaps and it just didn't happen.) I created our discord and started to organize everything. I made a spreadsheet to find the best time for us to all get together. We didn't have a DM and one of us volunteered. In fact, it's the problem player in this story. I have now since taken over as DM by vote.
To start this guy was someone who gave me a lot of bad vibes from the start. I shoved those vibes down because I had barely known him at the time. Sitting down at our first game we had a small group.
I was playing a Paladin loyal to the god Shakara The Silent (This will be relevant later.) The god himself refused to talk to us mere mortals and my church had the belief that we just were not worthy. Shakara had fought a great demon a thousand years ago and had not been heard from since. Now in truth, Shakara had actually lost that battle and had been locked in chains for a millennium but the church had yet to discover that.
I had to make sure my character was a fresh take from what I was used to. So my character became the best boy out there. His goal in life was to help everyone. He was a missionary carrying 100 pamphlets to hand out. Someone building a house on their travel? Hey, it's a few hours for us but it makes this guy's whole day. In a fight? We can talk them out of it, trust me. He was meant to be naive as hell and a challenge for the party. I made him tanky so I could still be helpful but I couldn't kill anyone.
Now let's say I did kill something by accident... He would go into a deep depression and not be able to function. The hope was that eventually in the game I would be able to use that as some character development.
Foreshadowing.
The DM decided to start before the party would meet. I found that really interesting. K, our group's Rogue (The only other veteran at the table) was in a prison convoy for a crime they hadn't committed. Interesting, I'm sure we'll meet in an interesting way, perhaps I have to break them out of their wrongful imprisonment and-
I got teleported in front of the convoy.
I don't mean the DM just had me wonder in front of the convoy, I mean I found a teleportation door and just happened to show up there.
Now my missionary is then promptly accused of a crime. Sure, okay sounds good, what is it?
I was accused of murdering the king. Later in this same session, we would meet the king. The math is not checking out on this one.
My character pulls out his pamphlets to try and prove that I had just started my mission and it wouldn't be possible. Nope. I was arrested and taken to jail.
This was frustrating, but okay, sure, plot train choo-choo.
From here we came across the 3rd member of our group who has since quit the game for unrelated reasons. The 3 of us were soft-locked by the DM at this point. Our weapons are gone, our armor striped and our items confiscated. There were no cracks in the wall or rust on the bars. This should have been the moment I realized the DM had no idea what they were doing, but that comes later.
I try sparking a conversation with the guard. I hand him my last pamphlet which he then tears up and hands back. The DM then describes it as something that has been written on the interior. What could it contain? All that was written inside was "Escape."
The fuck what now?
We've been asking questions trying to get for 4 minutes and he can't understand we have nothing that we can use to do that. So I ask the guard "And how are we supposed to do that?"
"With this."
And he hands us a club.
"Thanks for holding out on us."
I was IRL kind of annoyed. But whatever, let's break out. I strike the wall with all my force.
AND I KILLED A CHILD SOLDIER ON THE OTHER SIDE. NO DAMAGE DICE. NO ROLL TO HIT.
I BLEW UP HIS HEAD.
Now my paladin starts to freak the hell out. Collecting the bits and pieces to save the kid. When he obviously can't save the kid he starts to carry around the corpse to at least give it a proper burial. The DM at this time is laughing at my character's misfortune. No one else is.
Now, that kid would later be fed to crocodiles by a fellow party member but that's beside the point.
Before we can open the door the king (That I had apparently murdered) bursts through the door with 20 of his best men and tells us that we are going to kill the dragon terrorizing the land. Alright, sure, plot train Choo-Choo hop let's kill the dragon.
He introduces us to our "home base" for the game with a flying sled just like Old Saint Nick's.
Now, this is where the first session ended. At the time I viewed it as a rough start but overall alright.
The second session is the real turn of the tide.
We have our first mission, we hop into our flying sled and as we're flying we enter into my new favorite dimension.
THE MIRROR DIMENSION Music sting.
Yeah, we just slide right in, no saving throws, nothing.
Now it's also around this time now that we're in THE MIRROR DIMENSION Music sting that we find an under-compartment. Now our Rogue decides to slip down there to see what's below. Skulls and body parts. But there was a magic scroll. The Rogue reads it and sees a vision of the future. Where my head is separate from my body, and the 3rd player is sitting on a throne. Always great to hear that my character is going to die. Then the Rogue returns through... The other player's eye...
We were stunned. This didn't even make sense to us, and I'm pretty sure the DM didn't either. Soon after our sled is going to crash. No roll, again. Just going to happen. At this point I am so disconnected I just say "Wait until the last second and jump." I am the only one who pulls it off, I jump out of the sled and the rest end up crashing into a castle.
This is when things just stopped making any sense. Now, what can I do? Mr. The law is the law for a reason. I knock. Inside the castle is god. Just straight up god. God is just chilling inside of THE MIRROR DIMENSION Music sting. And god tells me to leave. I get a little upset because this CLEARLY isn't my god, so I start telling him off a little. "Hey, my friends are in there and I need them!" what does god do?
He strips my paladin powers.
For those who don't understand, this is the literal worst thing that can happen to a paladin. And this is the second session. My Paladin doesn't stop, I start demanding my friends. God then rolls to tell me they don't think I'm their friend and he succeeded.
"No. No, they- You're lying they... OH GOD! Oh god no..."
My character apparently cries for 8 hours. Sure, why not. But the DM is laughing again, and no one else is.
Eventually, I break out the other players, and my character, with their life ruined, decides to start a church here in THE MIRROR DIMENSION Music sting.
Now this session wasn't just bad, it was terrible. The only way we got through it was by making fun of the DM's terrible story. I made the joke that THE MIRROR DIMENSION Music sting was reversed in every regard. Evil became good, left was right, and cats and dogs got along. Now the DM every time someone would make that joke would state "NO! That's not how the mirror dimension works!"
"If you're a good god, then the god on the other side of the mirror dimension must be evil! You need to fight him!"
"That's not how the mirror dimension works!"
"Gravity must be reversed here in the mirror dimension!"
"THAT'S NOT HOW THE MIRROR DIMENSION WORKS!"
All I can say is everything is the way it is inside of THE MIRROR DIMENSION Music sting.

Edit: I forgot to mention this: The DM explicitly told me that he wanted to break my character after the second session. I'm not that paranoid.

I’m starting to think this was a dream I remember it somewhat clearly I don’t think it was popular it was like an internet web series. Something from 2011-2012 I believe since I was so young when I remember.

Seasons 2 and 3 are essentially the same style coming from the same people. 2 had some unlucky story choices and it became a clunker that didn't click. It's happened plenty of times in the history of Star Trek, but with short serialized seasons, the consequences become exaggerated. Give the creative team a break. We all long for connection. We're all just a little bit alone. Stars in the same galaxy, but light years between us.

UPDATE XLIV: A couple of items from our boring (thankfully) life now. Jane adopted a stray cat and I went on time-restricted-eating, or intermittent fasting program.
Jane and I doing well and are still happy, like newlyweds. Jane's wrist is healing nicely and with no pain. She now has a removable hard shell device with elastic and Velcro instead of the cast she had originally. Much more comfortable and can be removed for showers or while watching TV or using the keyboard. Dr. says it's good for her to flex it around as much as possible. Also a stray cat started hanging around and Jane's first reaction was to put out some food and water. I warned her that was a mistake but, of course, it stayed around and eventually allowed Jane to pet it. Jane took it to the vet and it's female and had already been fixed. Well, it's now a house cat with shots and a chip and being spoiled. Jane wants to mother everything and cuddles it all the time. Even Jerry (our Lab) has taken to the cat and they are buddies. Jerry got his nose scratched a few times at first but they've worked it all out now. He sits by while the cat eats. Jane says he's guarding her while she eats. Nope, I think he's just hoping for some stray morsels like when he sits by our dinner table.
As for my fasting, since Jane and I got back together I've been gaining some weight. I'm spoiled, eating more frequently, less intense workouts, less demanding physical activities, and my age. Jane never had that issue due to her genetics and never eating very much. Her mom was like that too. I did lots of research and decided that rather than go on a diet and count calories I would try intermittent fasting. I started with a 16-8 schedule where I fast for 16 hours and eat only during an 8 hour window. This eating window includes all my alcohol too, and I will continue to be conscience of carbs and sugars. During the fasting period nothing except water or plain coffee or tea. I will do this schedule for a few months then move to an 18-6 schedule if necessary. Restricting food for 16 hours is pretty easy, eight of it is while I'm sleeping, but stopping the wine or Scotch after 8pm takes some real discipline. I will try delaying my first meal of the day until 2:00pm so I can have wine until 9:00 or 10:00pm. I'll experiment and see what works for me. This is something I think I can live with for the long haul. There are several other benefits from fasting beyond weight loss. Nice thing is that I can shift the eating window timeframe when needed and have occasional "feasting" days where I eat and drink all day during special events like family get-togethers. Jane is supporting me on this.
I know this is not relationship drama, but a few have requested an update. Daughter is due in May. We will be attending the OM's daughter and her fiancé wedding in April. They have become good friends with our son and his wife also. All is well and glad Spring is here and we can't wait for summer. The older I get the more I dislike winter.

I’m at a loss right now. My cat has always used his litter box, exceptions being when sick or when he jumps out mid-poop while excited/startled. For the last 2 days, he’s been pooping on the floor, but peeing in the litter box, except for 1 time when he peed on our bed. He peed on the bed 2 days ago and then has been using the litter box to pee since. I know the obvious answer is taking him to the vet but his poop is normal and his behaviotemperament are normal. Any advice would be appreciated. 😔

I live with my mom and dad, and we have a cat. I wasnt close with kitty before, not until I decided to be patient and understand what she needs from her behaviours(example:biting me when i pat for too long, simply means she wants me to stop patting her, by using her way to communicate, and doesnt mean she is a "bad kitty"). My mom noticed me and kitty became close and one day she decided to use my cat brush on kitty and kitty immediately bit her, she brushed her with too much force. And she said"how ungrateful this cat is, biting me when i am the one feeding her". And i said"her biting you simply means she doesnt like the way you brush her, nothing else". Nmom still wonders why kitty is closer with me and my dad than her. And this pattern is exactly how she treats people, she thinks i am ungrateful for being angry at her, when i simply told her what she is doing is wrong and can hurt people. It became more obvious when you can see how this pattern apply to Narcs every single action and interaction with people.

Hi! I have had my dog, Gracie (8 yr old whippet/pointer mix) for the past seven years. She is perfect, listens so well, so sweet, very docile and just good natured in general. My husband and I just got a new 5 month old kitten (her name is Onion, lol) 4 days ago. My dog has been around cats before, but never lived with one, so we did our research and introduced them slowly, and after about half a day they were best friends. They sleep on each other, Onion follows her around, they play a little together, etc, no issues. Well, starting last night, Gracie has been acting super weird, but only at night. Every night I put her to bed in her dog bed in our bedroom- I give her a pillow, throw her blanket over her, and she goes right to sleep, doesn’t move until the morning (note: she is allowed on our bed, but she doesn’t enjoy sleeping up here at night because she likes having her own space). Yesterday, all of a sudden she started going a little nuts when I tried to put her to bed. She was jumping on and off our bed, hiding in the corner, acting cagey and scared for seemingly no reason. You could possibly argue that the jumping on the bed is jealousy of the kitten sleeping up here, but it really doesn’t seem like that to me- she seems scared, and I have no earthly idea why. Onion isn’t messing with her or anything, she’s just been wandering around like the curious little thing she is, or sleeping, neither of which were done anywhere close to Gracie in her bed. I have no clue why Gracie is acting like this out of the blue. Not aggressive, not mean, just kind of bugged out? I tell her to go to bed, tuck her back in, and she does, but then she just gets right back up and starts trying to jump on top of my husband while he’s trying to sleep. I have no idea why she’s doing this, and it is driving me fucking NUTS. I am exhausted, frustrated, angry, and sad. Has anyone had a similar issue to this with their dog before, any ideas as to what would cause this type of weird behavior? I want her to be able to sleep with us, but I can’t keep her in here if she’s going to keep us up all night. Plus, now the cat just walks around looking for her and crying if she’s not in the room with us. I am completely at a loss, and don’t know what to do. Please, any advice is welcome. The only part of her daily life that’s changed is the new kitty, nothing else!

Whenever she jumps on the bed, it’s not like she wants to just stay up there- she like, panics and tries to climb on top of me, then jumps back down, back up, etc. she doesn’t just want to sleep with us, it’s something else
I’ve done my absolute best the past few days to make sure she doesn’t feel excluded with all the excitement of the new kitten- which has been pretty easy because I’m letting my husband take the lead with her, since I’ve had Gracie since about a year before I met him. She is my best friend, I’d do anything for her, so I’m trying my best to go out of my way to make sure she knows she is still loved with the newest addition to the family- which is why I don’t think it’s a jealousy issue, even though that seems like the most logical suggestion in this specific scenario. From small beginnings to feature-length film

Makoto Shinkai

Before his first feature length movie Shinkai had already made multiple short films and even now later on in his career he’s still making short animation. Though nowadays it's mostly commercials. However, while Cross Roads for example might be a commercial for a cram school, it nonetheless feels like a (condensed) Shinkai movie. It has the classic Shinkai aesthetic and 2 characters from different places whose roads are bound to cross one day. It kinda did become a longer movie because Shinkai has said that it was one of the starting points for Your Name.
The most notable shorts of his early career are probably Voices of a Distant Star and She and Her Cat. Personally I really like his Someone's Gaze. It has a story that will be very relatable for a lot of people. It is about a girl who has moved out and is trying to make it on her own and the distance that can create between parents and children but also that certain bonds are nonetheless eternal.

Another name that probably doesn't need an introduction. Who here hasn't heard of Astro Boy? Besides making a lot of manga, Tezuka was also really interested in experimental animation and he made multiple short films throughout his career.
These shorts can be very different from each other. My personal favorite Broken Down Film for example looks like an old school black and white American cartoon and is a fun creative parody of an old grainy Western that breaks the 4th wall a lot. While something like Muramasa feels very Japanese (story wise, visually and with its music) and is a dark story about a man finding a cursed Muramasa sword. Then this short film uses very minimal animation but you also have Jumping that has some incredible animation. Jumping has a very simple story and follows a character jumping to higher and higher heights but what makes this short film so unique is that it shows the first person perspective of the jumping character. On top the whole thing also looks like 1 continuous shot. A lot of Tezuka's short films also feature some kind of social criticism or an anti-war message. For example at the start you might think that Mermaid is a straightforward romance film but then it suddenly turns into something else and becomes a disturbing tale about a very controlled society where free thinking isn't allowed. (please note that while you can find Youtube links of this shorts on the official Osamu Tezuka website they're only 3 minutes long and thus usually aren't the entire short film)

The MVs for A crow is white’s Fake!Fake! and Himitsu Spark were some that immediately wowed me and were basically the start of my interest in animated music videos. Even now Uekusa’s style with its high tempo visuals with strangely cute monster designs, that get used to portray the emotional state of the characters, and a striking use of (bright) colours remains one of my favourites.
We already see this style in his graduation work The Tender March about a girl growing up and still see it in his more recent works like Snailgirl - Supergirl. Now you might say ‘well, doesn’t that get old?’. The answer for me is a big no. There is always so much going on in Uekusa’s work. Quick cuts, morphing animation, explosions. For example take the hyperactive Sana Natori - Mondainai Tripper! MV, it’s chaotic with almost visual overload but it’s also controlled chaos. For me one of the important things with animated music videos is that the visuals and audio come together and that’s exactly something Uekusa excels at. That makes his work very satisfying to watch and give it a high repeatability for me.
