Hi, Happy Friday! I am looking for some career advice. I want to be able to create some goals for myself so I can motivate myself and feel like Iām working towards something, rather than just working.
I graduated law school May 2022, passed the July 2022 bar, and began my career September 2022. I joined a sole practitioner doing plaintiff-sided medical malpractice. For an array of reasons, this job wasnāt for me. So, I left.
I began a new job for my cityās government two weeks ago. Iām doing employment law (which is what I wanted to do when I graduated but did not find any good opportunities) and I already feel so much happier. The benefits are great, including student loan forgiveness after 10 years. If I stay the 10 years, I will be 35/36 years oldā¦which is pretty great.
However, I donāt think I can stay in the government long-term. I want higher pay, my own office, social benefits, etc. I want more for myself.
I really like the work that my office does. I would like to do in-house employment law, but Iām afraid Iāve put myself in a corner by doing Agency work.
So, I guess I have the following 3 questions:

So, this isn't the first time I've posted about this, but I deleted my first post after receiving some not so kind messages. Here's the bullet points of that post:
Of course, this is dependent on how old your kids are, how involved your partners are in their lives, and how your cohabitation works, but after some soul searching I think that something that would have helped me greatly is having a 'safe space' away from my parent's poly dynamic.
I am not saying poly is dangerous. I AM saying there are a lot of things about the concept of polyamory in practice that can be overwhelming for a child.
It also made things difficult because (for example), if my mom's partner made me uncomfortable, I didn't feel like I could confide in my father, because I knew at the end of the night they were going to sleep in the same bed and we were all going to sleep under the same roof. I was constantly anxious and stressed and tense about who I could confide in, or whether or not my concerns were valid at all.
This kinda leads into my next point...

No one wants to think their partner is capable of harming their child. But as an adult it will always be your responsibility to take the worst possibilities into consideration. If you are aware that it COULD happen, you will be better equipped to protect your child.
I know a lot of people love the idea that "well, this just means we'll have more people to love/support the children!!!" That's an incredibly idyllic way of looking at it, and I feel like it ignores a lot of the nuance and the sad fact that parents can have blind spots with romantic partners and their own children. Not to mention the fact that just because someone doesn't come out swinging and announce that they're a child predator does not mean they're a safe person to bring around your children. You cannot assume that people are going to be kind and have the best intentions with your children just because you love them and want them to be as involved with your kids as you are.
You cannot decide who your child will accept as a bonus parent, or who your child will view as a distant aunt, or who your child won't want to be around at all for their own reasons. And you have to give your kid the ability to make those decisions on their own, without pressuring them one way or another.
Just some things I've been thinking about based on the questions I received off that last post, helps to process when I post about it here

- I'm currently ambi, and exploring poly for me started as a way to kind of reclaim a confusing and strange part of my life
- My parents are on the older side, born in the 1960's, and when I was born w my twin sister they were in their 40's, we were the last of 6 kids
- I think my parents started having other partners when I was around 10-12. I didn't know the word for polyamory, I just understood that my parents were married and loved each other, then also had other partners that they were dating/loved, too.
- My parent's partners didn't live with us, but we're frequently at our home, at family events, sometimes picked me up from school, things like that I wanted to share some new things I've been musing about in relation to my upbringing that could be interesting/helpful to people who may have been in a similar situation

2023.06.02 20:45 Ecstatic-Welcome-939 Apologies, Iāve been posting a lot here lately, but Iām about to have my second baby(less than 3 weeks) and I guess Iāve got questions.
So I for sure donāt want to have any more kids any time soon. Originally, I was planning on getting fixed, but over the last few months Iāve been thinking about it a lot. I donāt really want to have surgery right after giving birth. Or have surgery to begin with. Iāve been thinking about the copper IUD instead but Iāve known people whoāve used iuds and had awful experiences. Mostly cases where the IUD shifted. The only experience I have with birth control is with the Depo Shot, and it was awful. I love being a mom, and I actually love being pregnant for the most part. Thereās just something heartbreaking about the idea of getting fixed even if I donāt want more kids.

I have already purchased flights. They cost me $67 round trip. I found out my niece is able to join. The app shows itāll be $97 now and I figured oh well we waited. She is only 11 so I could not buy a ticket for just her because she is a minor. I called and they are quoting me $205 to add her. They said it cost money to link her to my itinerary. Then when I hesitated they suddenly had a $47 voucher to lower the price. I felt like it was possible I was being scammed because finding a number to cal in the first place took lots of digging.

I've recently got back into going to confession after decades away. I didn't think I could make a good confession because of my habitual alledgedly grave sins, but a priest friend found out I was avoiding confession and has been working with me.
Basically he's told me he thinks I have greatly diminished culpability and not to beat myself up over it and constantly fear hell, and that the church doesn't want us living in fear. "Just try to maybe get it down to 39 times over the next couple weeks instead of 40" etc.
I told him I not only didn't think I could stop, but I also don't see how I could even want to stop or to even understand why I should want to stop. I've studied everything the church has to say on the matter and it genuinely doesn't make any sense to me. I said I know I could just be blinded by sin like Aquinas says that lust can do to you, but I can't honestly say I understand why it's so evil or that I really have any purpose of amendment other than to see if I can cooperate if God does a miracle.
He understood all this but absolved me nonetheless and basically told me not to stop receiving communion, even if I fall back into these sins and others between getting to confession - that in his judgment, none of my habitual sins are actually mortal.
I really hope this is true, but can I really trust that it is? I'm sure there are many priests that would disagree with this right? I want to be able to trust him that I'm not in mortal sin but it seems a bit presumptuous to think I can not even try to stop things that 99% of theologians say are gravely evil and just not even really worry about it and assume I'm always in the state of grace right? Afternoon everybody, Instrument Technician here desperately looking for some insight from the community about the broader workplace cultures you encounter in industrial work.
So I spent 8 years as a navy nuke electronics technician, and that's where the majority of my electrical training has come from. I did a lot of medium voltage distribution type work, and lots of nuclear instrumentation calibrations/troubleshooting. Onboard the submarine, there was an incredibly strict safety, lockout/tagout, and electrical safety culture. Every time we did work procedures were out. Every time (and I mean every time) we opened a panel we had 100% complete arc flash gear. Every job that needed a tagout had the entire lockout/tagout procedure methodically followed.
So I've recently separated and accepted a job at a VERY small power plant. The job posting I responded to was "Instrumentation and Controls Technician", but in reality I'm more "jack of all trades" electrician, and there is only one other electrician that works alongside me. Our manager is the supervisor for both mechanical and electrical so its truly just us.
So my question: Is this place as bad as I think it is?
We very rarely do lockouts for electrical stuff. They open 440v panels to flick a switch or cycle a module. I've seen shift supervisors mark off lockout paperwork as hanging/cleared when no locks ever got hung.
We are routinely asked to install new electrical panels, rooms, or equipment. I have ZERO background in construction, but my coworker does. I was very much under the impression that you need to be licensed (or at least know NEC codes at all??) in order to do this sort of work. This has included work up to 5KV equipment. No schematics, no procedures.
There's basically zero preventative maintenance that goes on here beyond some checks required by the NERC. We just jump from broken thing to construction project. No procedures ever, no paperwork ever.
Is this normal? If I get another job is there going to be this much cowboy? I know the nuclear navy was a strict and over the top place when it came to safety and procedures but I was in NO WAY prepared of the amount of complete disregard for procedures, technical manauls, paperwork, lockout/tagout that i encountered here. Should I find another job? Do I just need to check my expecations?
And also yes management is 10000% aware of these things, they were personally present for many of these up to my boss's boss's boss.
I had to dig the arc flash gear out of an abandoned shipping container covered in dust for god's sake.

In the past however I was pretty average and had a lot of fun playing the game with my friends. I think this is a very well-designed game and would give it a 5 out of 5 even though it is not my favorite game because I am not very good at it. The reason I am giving this game such a high score is because I can recognize how creative and well managed this game truly is and how awesome it is for people that are actually good at it. I believe this game is appropriate for ages 10 mainly because I donāt think kids younger then 10 should be spending a ton of time on video games but that is just my personal opinion.

Lately I've been having discussions with my girlfriend over feminism/lgbt ideas and they all have mostly been very productive. But the more I think, and the more I boil post modernist thought down, the more I struggle to even know what Gender even is. I've been looking my ideas up online and have been finding that most of my ideas are aligned with the idea of gender abolition.
I'm assuming, that depending who you ask, Gender comes down to either innate or socially imposed. And to me, either seem like they can be done away in the pursuit of equal rights. The innate arguments do not make sense to me. If Gender can be anything, or even multifaceted then it has to recognize some form of binary, bimodal, spectrum based thinking. But the problem with these distribution based forms of thinking is that there is no pure end. No one perfectly encapsulates femininity or masculinity and there will always be someone more or less masc/fem then any given individual. So by this notion every one is nonbinary as they do not exist in the extremes. But then there are those who consider themselves agender, which rejects the entire notion of the spectrum. Gender is then a box and they see themselves as outside it. But the box must be recognized for them to exist outside it.
So basically we are trying to create categories and boxes when we subscribe to gendered thought. I tend to think that if Gender roles were abolished then the idea of gender identities would also vanish. If you have nothing to compare a Gender against, then does the term Gender have any inherent meaning? I was raised to think that a man or woman can do or be anything, and if we follow this thought to it's extremes, then the idea of men or women begin to become inherently meaningless.
If we can remove Gender based discriminations, uplift everyone to an equal playing field, and allow any individual to perform any role or expression within society, then doesn't the distinction between genders become meaningless? Doesn't the basis of gender role categories implicitly reinforce the idea of what the gender identity is?
Then it seems to fall in the realm of innate identity, but sometimes I don't even know what that is. Some human meat machine running on biological framework that is being acted on by electrochemical systems acting within the biological framework. How can I ascribe Gender to that? Is there any biological traits in where Gender exists?
We want to do away with gendering colors, actions, behaviors, temperaments, objects, etc. So how can a Gender identity exist if we do not have anything to compare it to? If a man/woman/nonbinary can be, do or express anything, then what is the value of the label?
Okay. I get it, I'm rambling now. But I will end it with one question that I struggle to answer.
Without gendered terms, can we describe the terms what it means to be a man/woman/non-binary?
I ask this because I'm trying to avoid cyclical logic. Ex. "A man is a person who identifies, feels and knows they are a man." Cyclical logic with value to descriptive meaning.

Yesterday night I was having a breakdownā¦ your family usually automatically loves you. But to find someone outside of your family who genuinely loves you and enjoys every second with you, when you are the first thing they think of when they wake up and last thing they think of when they go to sleepā¦ is so rare. Someone who looks at you a way no one else does, that even after the pass away, others tell you exactly that. āYou have no idea how crazy about you he was. How he looked at youā. And suddenlyā¦ Iām not important anymore. No one wants to spend time with me like he did. No one looks at me and think āI missed her so much, she didnāt answer my call and I was worried about herā. No one answers my phone and says āhey baby! What is my baby doing?ā When I cry, no one comes rushing to hug me kissing my forehead saying ādonāt cry, I donāt wanna see you cry. Iāll get you anything you want. Just donāt cryā. š
One time when my husband was here, I got into fight with my brother over phone. He did something stupid and since we live far away, I couldnāt come in person and deal with that issue. We yelled at each other and I was so frustrated, he hung up and I started crying out of frustration. My husband hugged me tight and said ādonāt cry, Iāll get you that potato holder for your books. Come, Iāll order it right now. Donāt cryā. It made me laugh right away. I loved reading and I wanted this holder for books which also happens to be used for vegetables. He fought with me saying he wonāt let me have it in our bedroom because itās for potatoes and not books. But when he saw me cry, he ordered it right away to stop me from being sad. It made me laugh in that moment and it melted my heart.
But now I am just unimportant. One time when my husband was here, I got into fight with my brother over phone. He did something stupid and since we live far away, I couldnāt come in person and deal with that issue. We yelled at each other and I was so frustrated, he hung up and I started crying out of frustration. My husband hugged me tight and said ādonāt cry, Iāll get you that potato holder for your books. Come, Iāll order it right now. Donāt cryā. It made me laugh right away. I loved reading and I wanted this holder for books which also happens to be used for vegetables. My husband and I seem to be having repeated arguments that I think have the same root cause: we have different opinions about our roles, which leads us both to have certain expectations. And then if those expectations arenāt met, one of us ends up disappointed/angry.
A little about us: Iām the SAHM to seven kids (age infant-15). For many years, I was doing all the housework/childcare/homeschooling because my husband was deployed. In a way, it was an easy set up. If thereās childcare or housework that needed to be done, I did it because there was no other option. Then my husband got a very demanding civilian job. There were times he didnāt even see the kids because he was working crazy hours. When he was home for one day in weekends, he was happy to bbq, so the food shopping or take the kids to the pool. Basically, we both worked our tails off at our respective jobs.
Now we have a different lifestyle. He works from home and has very reasonable hours. Our kids now go to school, decreasing my load significantly since Iām not homeschooling. So now have a chance to figure out how to be great partners.
But we are struggling. And some of the things he says makes me think we arenāt on the same page as far as our proper understanding of our roles.
In short- he says āas the breadwinner, I could say that I am responsible for zero housework/chores and that would be acceptable.ā He also says that any time I ask him to help out, he does it is a gift. Anything he does around the house āfor meā is a gift. His main argument is that I donāt bring in money. So if I canāt help him with his job, anytime heās helping me with mine should be considered extra. I donāt think I ask for too much. I like my role as a homemaker and I think I do a pretty great job. And I love my role as a mom! Iām feeling discouraged in my role as a wife with these kinds of opinions being repeated any time we disagree about housework.

ANYWAYS- I go back onto dating apps, this time taking it with a grain of salt because Iāve had a lotta bad luck with them before (will explain later), and Iāve seen some unhinged behavior on there.
I match with a guy, letās call himā¦ Freddy Fazbear, whoās within my age range and not too far from me. His profile had funny jokes and he dressed cool, and he was cute so I was like fuck it lets talk to him. He was really fun to talk to! We had a lotta similar interests and we had a similar sense of humor and memes we liked, etc.
We talked for a few days leading up to a week and we moved over to Snapchat during that. We were complimenting each other and he just seemed super sweet! On Tuesday, I was like āomg we should call!ā (Thatās like my next step in romance okay š) and he was all on board, saying how we definitely should and that heād love to.
We planned to do a really short call at around midnight because he has a late shift at his job. Iām practically nocturnal and so was he, so I was fine with staying up to wait.
He never called.
HOWEVER, the next day he said he fell asleep because it was like a near 10 hour shift, which I totally understand that, but I was still anxious that I said something wrong thatās turn him away. He reassured me I didnāt do anything wrong or ghosted me on purpose and whatnot.

I just got a ResinSoul Mei MSD (42cm) and I'm trying to find red glasses for her. I'm prepared to make my own if I must, but I'd rather focus on making her other accessories. Does anyone know where I can find red glasses, preferably rectangle frames? I'm also OK with purple but red is preferred.
Her face seems to be about 4cm across so I'm not sure if a 4.5 cm pair will fit properly. I'm worried it would be too large. The only pair I've found so far is 4.5 cm and would take almost a month to arrive.
