Well folks. Despite all of our negativity and Orioles based trauma they actually did it. 16-12, four games over .500 for May. The worst is over and the O's came out on top. Or is it? The bullpen is certifiably cooked and Mullins is on the IL. Something that we all know marks a good, playoff, team is they can get through a month missing key players. June is just another tell all month. They did it in May, let's see it again in June.
Also, I LOVE when the O's play the Giants. Dongs after Dark baby. My favorite O's moment comes from an O's/Giants game in 17 when they came back down hard and Schoop hit a clutch
Earl Weaver Special tm to left centerfield to put the birds up in the 9th. Manny fuckin clocking Schoop always gets me.
What are we doing here? O yeah, this is the lucky guess post. No winners from Thursday.
Because I love O's/Giants series so much and hate
u/mrtallgreg I'm going to add in a bonus feature for this series. You get once chance at this and we'll record you're first one. Number of splashdowns in McCovey Cove. Add it to your guess but make sure it's coded after your tiebreaker guess. For instance 8-3 BAL, 5 IP 3 SD

Hi, I'm 31, located near Birmingham in the UK and don’t worry I’m not actually an alcoholic. I do enjoy adventures, and travelling is a keen interest of mine. I travel alone currently so a travel partner to share in the adventures would be amazing. I especially love history, castles, museums and the like. I’m also a huge film fan and I love going to the cinema. I try to go as often as I can and enjoy all types of films. My other interests include gaming, I own a PS5, and watching sports fan (football, cricket and basketball). I’m a regular at Villa Park (and Edgbaston during cricket season) so bonus points if you are happy to be dragged to the games. Other basic info; I have no kids, don’t smoke (I don’t care if you do), drive and own my own place.

2023.06.02 20:02 ItsEm25 Don't let the people in the trees see your face!
TW: Hanging, Death and Blood
I grew up in a small town called Evelanch, its located on the outskirts of Delaware, the population there was just over 1,000, I grew up there with my single mother and two brothers, I was the youngest so was the punching bag of the siblings but we all loved each other really. Its the type of town where everyone knew everyone, all the shops were owned by families that lived there and the bakeries always had fresh homemade goods... overall it was a great place to grow up in... apart from the fact the town was very superstitious about the surrounding woods. It was surrounded by these massive woods, miles and miles of woods, the kids and adults never went in them, the only people you ever saw in there was woodcutters. There was only one road that went through them, it was always referred to as the Lumberjacks Highway as all the wood cutters would use it to transport all the cuttings from the forest back to the town, They were the only people to really use it as not many people came to visit Evelanch. Growing up, all the kids were told never to go playing in them, all the adults of the town had these made up horror stories about giant bears and packs of hungry wolves to scare the kids into staying away from them, and were warned not to listen to the 'animal' noises we heard at night, the adults old us they were wailing, or it was their mating call and we believed them but as we grew up, we started to notice that the noises coming from the woods at night, weren't noises of an animal, but none of us could ever identify what they actually were, well that was until the summer of 1997 and I wish with every bone in my body we hadn't.
It was a hot summers day, me and my closest friends, Bruno, Stacy were all playing in my back yard, that night we had planned to sleep in the field just at the back of my house, a make-shift camping night, but since we were only 11 we didn't want to go too far from home, the field at the back of my house has a barbed wire fence surrounding it, it keeps the field and the woods separate, it was around 7ft tall the barbed wire at the top adding around another foot onto it, so no-one in the town was capable of climbing it, many have tried and failed miserably ending up grounded or in hospital. We placed outdoor camping lanterns all around the tent lighting up the area around us meaning we could see just past the fence. To explain the set up, we had one of those tents with the clear back, it was like a window and it had the piece of fabric you could roll down like a crappy curtain on it, the window was facing the fence with the fabric rolled up at the top because it was tangled and we were all to young to know how to untie it so we decided to just leave it open, to make us feel better we all turned or sleeping bags to face the window so we didn't have our backs to it. By the time we got settled in our sleeping bags it was around 11pm, we decided to tell stories and play some card games before heading to sleep, we eventually fell asleep around 12pm meaning the area that wasn't lit up by our lamps was pitch black, making us all feel a bit un-easy.
The next thing I remember was being shook awake by Bruno, I half lifted the sleeping mask of my eyes and looked up to see him hovering over me, trembling, he was panicked and looked like he was about to cry, I was still half asleep and confused what was going on, I remember asking him what was the matter and he just raised his shaking hand and pointed into the treeline, I rubbed my eyes and looked out the tent window and thats when I saw them, figures, just standing in the treeline, staring at us, they were almost as tall as the fence, must of been around 6.5ft with out of proportion limbs, their arms were almost as long as their body, and their head was smaller than a humans, they had smiles painted onto their unmoving face and there was gaping holes where their eyes should have been, at the end of their arms were small slim hands that warped into talons where their fingers should have been, and they were all swaying, crying all in sync, that was what the wailing noise was...
I was frozen, I couldn't move, I tried to scream for my mum, I tried to run but my body wouldn't let me, after what felt like hours, Stacy woke up and in a sleepy daze followed our gaze and met the same horrific imagine we were seeing, she let out a shriek and that jump started my brain, I threw my sleeping bag off and tumbled out of the tent Stacy and Bruno followed behind me, Bruno still shaking and Stacy crying hysterically suddenly we all heard this scream, sounded like everyone in our town began crying and wailing together, I looked back to see they were now pressed up against the fence, Pointing at us and screaming and clawing at the holes where their eyes should have been, seeing this we all picked up the pace, jumping over my fence and tumbling into my backyard, we began banging on my back door begging for my mum to let us in
She swung the door open and pulled us all inside asking us what the hell we were doing at this hour, once we explained, her annoyed expression soon shifted to a look of terror, she stormed out of the room and got our house phone, she called someone and told them exactly what we have told her, she then hung up and lead us all into the basement, after around 10 minutes we heard someone enter from our front door, they came into the basement light and we could now see our local priest, he had holy water, a bible and a cross with him, he rushed in and imminently started chanting verses of the bible and splashing the the water in a circle around us, he soon looked panicked when the water around my two friends began drying up but the splashes around me were untouched, confused I asked what was going on but he ignored me and took my weeping mother outside to speak to her. After around 10 minutes my mom and my two friends parents came back into the basement, they were all crying and hugging each other, my mom was telling their parents how sorry she was and kept telling them it would be okay and to use what time they had left to enjoy it, we were all still terrified and confused...thats the last thing I remember.
A week later, Stacy and Bruno went missing, both on the same day, an hour apart, they were found a day later... hanging from a tree with their eyes cut out, and limbs shred and scratched to the point where the skin was hanging off the bone, the police didn't investigate nor question anyone, the town knew why they were like this. For years I asked myself why I wasn't taken too, I was there, I had seen the same thing they had, It wasn't until my mother was on her deathbed that she told me, the sleeping mask I wore that night stopped them from seeing my full face, if it weren't for that sleeping mask, I would of been hanging from a tree just like them. I moved out of that town shortly after, my brothers decided to stay. I now have a wife and son and have tried to move on, but I recently got a letter, telling me that my brothers son, had met the same fate as my two childhood befriends, thats why I'm writing this, don't listen to the wailing from the trees, don't go exploring the woods at night, and do not let them see your face. The things that hide in the woods are hiding for a reason.
May god be with you all.

2023.06.02 20:02 VirginMusk Please Help! Not sure what to do with My antique Piano.
I have an entire storage unit full of stuff that's costing me every month. Most of the sentimental Items can be dispersed to family members (grandfather's paintings, Journals & such). But I have an antique Everett Baby Grand piano from 1890. It was my first instrument, and I vividly remember the first time I saw it, and when My mom bought it at auction for me. I was around 4 Years old. As a musician, this is the one item I can't bring myself to get rid of. I dream of Having it restored someday and in a house I own, but it seems more and more unrealistic everyday. It's in rough shape and needs tender love and care. I'm not sure if I can even find someone who would want it, and it would break my heart to see it not go to a great home. Any advice would be greatly appreciated... thank you!

2023.06.02 20:00 Jeyas23 Should I take this vacation
I need help making a decision to take a 2 week vacation in the end of August. This Is a trip overseas to bring my mom to see her family and attend a wedding.
The reason this is a tough decision is because in mid August I will be starting to work and supporting a new project team. Keep in mind this is not a new job i am just rotating to a new business unit to support them for 4 months. Taking the 2 weeks off will be 1 week after I start with the team. Would this be a bad look on me? I am in my mid- twenties.
Also this trip was not planned like I should done, so I would need to buy the tickets now which will cost me more than would I have bought months ago
This is a trip to my parents home country that I love going to, i usually go every summer when I was a kid growing up.
To add context I did visit my family last summer and had an amazing time. This isn’t a one time thing for me, I’m just up to grabs on whether to go or skip the trip this year, focus on my career and plan to go next summer.
The options
- Go on the trip, go to the wedding and see the family, spend extra money on plane tickets. Potentially have a great time
- Focus on my career, save my money and plan a trip properly next summer with advance notice to my manager and team
Edit: This trip will cost me around $3500 if I do go

2023.06.02 19:59 MachineOmen Looking for Career-change advice after almost 30 years, hands-on, in Tech/IT.
Hello everyone.
TLDR: I've been working in tech/IT, hands-on, since 1995. I have operated my own solo MSP business for the past 13 years. My skills go pretty far beyond standard IT as my clients are interesting. I want to disconnect from shouldering the never-ending responsibilities I have created for myself and apply my considerable experience and lust for learning to a job that will afford me a sane level of freedom. I'm looking for career-change ideas. Where could someone like me go?
The (too long) story:
I'm 51 years old and currently own/operate a solo Managed Service Provider business for a handful of companies, from my home office. I started this business about 13 years ago when I was laid off from my IT Director job (along with 250 other employees - I was the entire IT staff) due to "the Great Recession". My clients have stuck with me for over a decade now. I'm the IT and programming staff for four different businesses. Weird, right?
All these years, I have kept up with tech where it has been relevant for my clients, and I also have several tech-related hobbies. I have amassed a huge amount of hands-on experience. It truly is too much to list. The gist is that I'm a cliché of the "Swiss Army Knife" type.
Perhaps the BEST aspect of myself that has grown from my self-driven career is that I LOVE learning new things to this day. I take several online courses per year to keep up with tech as needed. The scope of my tech hobbies rivals the scope of my career, which is pretty nuts when I think about it.
I make decent money working for myself, but I am aware that I probably would have been a lot more successful financially had I specialized in some area and become an expert. The upside of what I chose to do instead was being the captain of my own ship for all these years.
So What's Wrong?
Burnout, I suppose. I'm not burned out with technology - hell I can't get my brain out of generative AI at the moment - but I'm tired of the relentless ball and chain I have created for myself. Tired of endless security threats and the associated cost creep of mitigating them. Tired of never really getting to disconnect from my work completely - even for a weekend or vacation. Tired of having to tell my clients they need to spend more. Tired of cost and complexity increasing while income doesn't.
My last vacation was my honeymoon 6 years ago - a week in Mexico where I had to take my laptop and pray nothing pressing came up. I ended up doing a little work one of the days.
I'm looking for a new direction to take with my experience and willingness to learn and achieve. Had I stayed the corporate path, I'd likely be a CTO or something, managing other people. I've never wanted that kind of work because I like to get my hands dirty, but at this point, I'd consider anything that will allow me to take normal breaks from work and not have to shoulder responsibility of a no-win situation (IT/IT Security) and never-ending cost creep.
I've been in my own bubble for so long, I'm not sure where I could take my abilities/experience/willingness to work and learn.
I'm looking for ideas. Thank you in advance!

///11th of June, 2006
“Dad, the moon!” I shouted as I entered the garage. My father was on the floor, under his Bugatti 57SC Atlantic, obsessively removing and re-installing pieces of the car like he always did. He quickly got up, a smile on his grease-stained face.
“Finally!” He said with his beer-breath, grabbing a towel and cleaning most of his face, before running outside as fast as he could. I followed him. I don’t know why I always liked these moments. Any child would find them terribly boring. But I always reveled on them. Maybe it’s because they were the only moments he smiled. He positioned his telescope on our front yard, adjusted the lens, drank a beer can and started looking at the full moon above us.
“Do you see it?” I asked, sitting on the grass next to him.
“Shut up.” He said, still looking. After half an hour of waiting, he started laughing. I opened my mouth to ask if he was seeing it, but I held my voice. Didn’t want to anger him.
“It’s blinking! It’s blinking Johnathan!” He laughed. I smiled. That wasn’t my name, though he called me that. Only several years later I would learn that was the name of his deceased younger brother. Every full moon, we would come look at it with the telescope. And he’d always call me Johnathan. Probably because he was always so drunk. But from always avoiding me or calling me “Brat”, Johnathan was a nice shift.
“Can I see?” I asked, and he lowered the tripod so I could see the moon. There was a small light blinking on it’s surface. It was truly beautiful.
“Fine, my turn again.” My father shoved me back, adjusted the tripod back, and started looking at it again. “It’s blinking so much tonight… Maybe… Brat, get my camera!” He shouted at me. I quickly went inside the house, and looked around for the camera in the living room. There it was, on a little pile of beer cans and empty rythmol boxes in the corner of the room. I hurried back outside, as fast as I could, as I did not want to anger my father.
I stopped on my tracks as soon as I was out of the house. There was a strange being involving my father. It looked like a snake, but I knew it was anything but a snake. There were not snakes that big where I lived. And certainly not with human faces. My father seemed oblivious to it, looking through his telescope, but the thing was all around him, from the bottom of his legs all the way to the top of his head.
“It’s blinking so much…” He said, in awe. The creature looked at me, locking eyes with me, and smiled, revealing several sets of sharp fangs. And then, it disappeared. My father looked at me, he was sweating. “I think… I need to lay down for a bit…” He muttered, before falling on the grass. I spent the entire night trying to wake him up, before my mother found me there crying the following day.

“And that’s why you decided to study astronomy? Really?” Melissa laughed.
“Oh, come on, babe… Don’t make fun of my tragic past.” I said, finishing my waffles. She went to the fridges, grabbed the orange juice, and poured some in our cups.
“Shall we toast?” She asked.
“With orange juice? And what for?”
“Your impending graduation. What else?”
“Impending? Ha! I didn’t even start my capstone thesis.”
“So, what will it be about? Venus, right? Or was it Mars?”
“Nope. Too many people I know will already be working on planets like Venus and Mars. I thought about Neptune, but it’s too far away. So I figured, why not the Moon?”
“Please, don’t tell me this is about your father.”
“Mel, he wasn’t the best dad in the world. But he did left me his collection of vintage cars. This is what paid for my education.”
“He didn’t left it to you, it was divided between you and your mother.”
“Regardless, I feel like I owe him this. Apart from the cars, the moon was the only thing he loved.”
“You owe him nothing, Ezra.”
“I need to know what the blinking lights are! Lunar transient phenomena, it’s how they call them. There’s no scientific explanation to what they are.”
“Just because there’s no known scientific explanation, it doesn’t mean one does not exist. And if there’s one, it’s certainly not creepy snake-man” She laughed.
///04th of September, 2022
The first thing you feel when you start seriously investigating the moon is how mysterious it is. We only went there a handful of times, and then never again. All reasons are given for this, but it never really felt right to me. Maybe what happened to my father always made me feel paranoid about the subject, but I somehow felt there were things about the moon that were hiding on plain sight.
The focus of my research, the lunar transient phenomena, is incredibly unknown. Few studies were done about it, and most of them were never published or were abandoned. The few that were made available were either from little-known universities in third-world countries, in languages that I couldn’t understand and without English translation, or mere compilations of recorded occurrences. I found some theories. The lights were caused by magnetism, or by gasses, or by asteroids, perspective…
But mere hypothesis were not enough for me. I needed to know. I needed to understand. I needed… I needed to confirm it weren’t those lights who killed my father that day.
So, I delved deep into the research. I spent weeks in my bedroom, reading books and more books, entering all sorts of websites, sending emails to experts, looking for anything that could give me more information. But through all my effort, the only thing I could find were theories or hypothesis, all of them with little to no evidence. In my search for answers, I started straying further away from modern science, entering strange websites and reading books that talked about blatant pseudoscience, like astrology or the paranormal.
///17th of February, 2022
“So, what books will you be basing your capstone on?” My orienting professor asked. I could not see his face properly, we were talking through a videocall and he was not very tech savvy, so his eyes and nose were out of the frame.
“Chris, I can only see your mouth!” I laughed.
“Sorry…” He said, adjusting his camera. The framing was not perfect yet, but it was better. "Have you read the books I sent you?"
"They... They were not what I was looking for."
"What were you looking for, Ezra?"
"I told you. Answers. I have been looking for answers, yet I only find questions."
"We will only be able to find real answers when we actually set a lab on the moon. Until then, we will have to live with merely hypothesizing."
"I know, but..."
"Have you tried reading Kulikovsky?Or Hakan Kayal? Non-american studies in general."
"Yes, professor Chris. But... All studies seem to contradict themselves. Some point to studies that I can’t find anywhere, like they don’t exist anymore. Like they were erased by someone…”
“Some texts were never made digital or registered. It’s very unfortunate.”
“Everyone tries to find a logical explanation... What if there isn't one?"
"What is this truly about?"
"What?"
"It's just... You do know you can change your capstone thesis theme, right? Maybe an analysis of something more well-known could work better with your methodology."
"Chris, I will not change my mind. We have discussed this before."
"Well, well... I talked to one of my former colleagues, he is retired now, who also studied the moon, but his research was more focused on gravity. He told me there's a book called "A Study of the Moon with a New Lens" or something like that. Written by one Dr. Karl Hollfern in 1935."
"That is way before LTP was even catalogued."
"Catalogued, yes. Recorded? No. Hollfern studied extensevely the lunar mysteries. Unfortunately, he was executed by the Nazis because he opposed them. But his research lived on. My friend told me they have one of his books in the library. But it's in German."
///18th of February, 2022
I entered the library carrying a bag full of German grammar books and a dictionary. I would not let a little language barrier stop me from getting to the truth.
“Hello, how can I help you?” The librarian asked, barely averting her eyes from her cellphone.
“I’m actually looking for a book that could either be in the astronomy section or in the foreign titles section… Can you help me?”
“Which book?” She was still looking at her phone, seemingly playing one of those generic casual mobile games.
“It’s in German. Old, from the 1930s. Talks about studies of the moon made at the time.”
“Unusual request, but ok…” She put her phone on the counter, and started typing on the computer. “Can’t find it. Do you have the author’s name?”
“Karl Hollfern.”
“Uncanny. It’s unlisted.”
“What?”
“We have it in the library, but it’s not available. We usually do this when books are being cleaned. Usually takes a couple of days… It says it won’t be listed until… Until 2100?
“What? How does this makes sense?”
“I don’t know. I’ve been working here for sixteen years, and have never seen something like this. Regardless, I can’t lend you the book. I can’t even let you access it in library grounds.”
///23rd of February, 2022
I was drinking my Starbucks cappuccino while trying to make myself comfortable on the shopping mall bench, to no avail. I was tense. I had never involved myself with something like this. If my mother or girlfriend knew, they would kill me. An older man made his way out of the crowd and patiently sat down next to me.
“You were supposed to be sitting on the bench next to Nike. But no problem.” He laughed.
“Sorry. I got confused…” I facepalmed.
“I got the book you asked me too. But the price is going to be different in your case.”
“As in more expensive?”
“No. Normally, I charge twenty five grand, or double If the job is hard. In your case, the job was ridiculously easy. I will be charging five grand only.”
“Thanks! I’m transferring to your account right now…” I said as I typed on my phone.
“The book is in your car.”
“How did you… Oh, of course.”
“Pleasure doing business with you.” He got up and left. I immediately went to my car. There it was, Eine Untersuchung des Mondes mit einer neuen Linse.
///28th of February, 2022
“Honey, are you still awake?” Melissa asked me. I was sitting on a pillow in the corner of the room, aggressively doing more and more Duolingo lessons.
“I’m busy, Mel.” I said, without averting my eyes from the green owl.
“Is this about that German book you have been taking everywhere?”
“No…” I blatantly lied.
“Honey, you’ve been up all night. It’s ten to six.”
“What?”
“You are obsessed with this shit, Ezra! Look at you! This is the third time I find you here studying German instead of sleeping!”
“I’m sorry, but you do know I have a capstone thesis to finish, don’t you?!” I screamed back at her.
“Oh. So this is what’s all about, right?”
“Babe, it’s not like that…” Before I could say anything, she stormed out of the apartment. I stood there, frozen, for a minute or two, before I went back to my Duolingo.
///3rd of March, 2022
“Hello Ezra” Chris said, as I adjusted my camera. As usual, I couldn’t see his face properly.
“Good evening, professor Chris.”
“Ezra, are you okay? You look tired.”
“I’m fine.” I said vehemently.
“Ezra… I… I have bad news for you.” When he said that, I felt like a hand was smashing my heart. “The university has rejected your intended theme.”
“W-what?”
“You’ll have to pick something else. I’m sorry.”
“What? Why?!”
“Apparently there’s information about Lunar Transient Phenomena that is undisclosed to the general public. The feds were here yesterday, talked with the dean about it. Said that researching the LTP was considered meddling in national security affairs, and that all projects focusing on it were to be halted.”
“Bullshit!”
“I’m sorry. I know how much time you have already invested in this. But we’ll find something else, Ezra. There are more lunar mys…” I interrupted him.
“Why is it so hard to research a simple lunar phenomena?! Every time I advance, everyone tries to block me! They will not stop me from uncovering what happened to my father!” I slammed the table.
“What?”
“This will not stop me.” I muttered, while ending the videocall.
///8th of March, 2022
After some turbulent days, I was finally making progress again. My knowledge of German wasn’t great, but knowing basic grammar, using online dictionaries, and with a little help from online German studying communities, I was making my way through the book.
The book was almost a century old, yet I felt like I was finally making progress. The research by Hollfern was fascinating, but disturbing. He described how the “blinking moonlights” if watched carefully, could be interpreted as having meaning. My German was advancing but far from perfect, so I didn’t have the exact translation, but it said something about the moon speaking in some sort of secret code using the lights.
It also referenced some books, most of which seemed to not exist anymore, but some of them not only existed, I also managed to download their scanned PDFs. It was pretty unorthodox for a scientific study. There was a book on symbols and sigils of different religions, a compilation of theological texts about Gnosticism, a book compiling works by Schopenhauer, and a Hindi scroll explaining Chakras.
I didn’t understood yet how everything connected. Seemed like a strange collection of unrelated weirdness.
///10th of March, 2022
I stumbled upon something I had previously overlooked. There’s an work by Schopenhauer where he discuss reading the Upanishads, which are old Hindi texts. The Hindi text I had downloaded was translated to English, but what if I looked for the original? Maybe there was something I wasn’t shown.
The original had a section that was censored in the English version that talked about a Devas that was corrupted by an evil unknown entity called that attached on it’s solar plexus and made it miserable with overwhelming sadness and pain. A thing described as a floating jester.
///13th of March, 2022
The phone in the living room started ringing. I left it there, unwilling to stop reading the book and trying to translate the contents. The call went to voicemail, and then I heard the caller recording it:
“Hey Ezra, I know you’re going through a bad time, but as your orienting professor, I care for you. You didn't show up for any of your tests. I know you seem to be focused on your research, but this isn't the-" I unplugged the damn thing.
///16th of March, 2022
I got evicted after not paying my rent. Or I was supposed to be at least. I picked up my research stuff and rented a cheap motel room on the outskirts of my town. I could not pay for the rent, and least not for now, I spent most of my money buying books and old magazines during the last weeks. I don’t need a place to call mine for now. I just need to find the truth.
I know the government will come after me. I’m coming too close. But if they want me to stop, they will have to kill me. I’ve already lost everything. This investigation is all I have left.
///18th of March, 2022
There's an old website that I found while researching. A true relic, seems to be from the early 90s. It contains old conspiracies theories, like stuff about the Illuminati and New Age, Satanic Panic, how Ronald Reagan was actually replaced, among other things. But there was something among the insanity that I felt was the last thing missing in my investigation. The true reason why we never returned to the Moon and why the Soviets never even attempted landing on it.
According to that website, during the last moon expedition, in December of 1972, the astronauts were secretly instructed to find out what was causing the Lunar Transient Phenomena, and spent three days on the Taurus-Littrow Valley, the region where the phenomena was more frequent on the previous five years. They were carrying a seismometer, as the most influential theory at the time was that the LTP was being caused by moonquakes cracking the surface of the natural satellite and releasing gasses.
But what the seismometer detected was that there were no such thing as moonquakes. Their equipments revealed humongous structures, seemingly biological or mechanical, moving under the moon surface.
One day before they left, NASA detected an instance of LTP a few kilometers near where they were stationed, so the astronauts went there to check. What they found there was never disclosed, but some theorize they met one of the beings responsible for causing the blinking lights. And that was the reason humanity abandoned all expeditions to the moon. After five missions in three years, we never returned there.
///20th of March, 2022
I woke up feeling like my head was spinning. I was lying on the sofa of my motel room. Once again, I had spent the entire previous night and day reading texts cited by Dr. Hollfern. My tablet was out of battery, so I got up, feeling pain all over my body, and went looking for my charger. It took me a couple of minutes to notice the two men wearing dark suits, black ties and dark sunglasses sitting on my sofa. One of them had a silenced pistol on his hand.
“Good afternoon, Ezra Thornbridge.” The one holding the firearm said, with a voice so ordinary it was scary.
“W-what?!” I blurted, still trying to overcome the pain.
“Oh, don’t mind us. We are just here to recover something.” The other man said, smiling.
“Something that isn’t yours, yet you’re in possession of.” The man with the gun complemented.
“I… Who are you?” I asked.
“Right now, I’m the man pointing the gun at you.” The man with the weapon said, while his partner just shrugged.
“Fine, I’ll return your damn book. But I already know about it. I already put the pieces together."
"Oh, interesting. What do you think you know, Thornbridge?" One of them mocked.
"The Solar Plexus Clown Glider. I have studied them in depth. Or do you prefer to call them like the Gnostic theologians called them back in the day? Archons…”
“Look what we have here, Spencer. Like father like son.” The guy with the gun scoffed.
“I told you we should have just doped him and looked for the damn book while he slept. He is totally gone.” Spencer said.
“I’m not crazy! The Archons are real! They killed my father! They kill people! And you, instead of trying to protect the people, just hide their existence, just lie, just lie and lie and lie!”
“How can you be so smart yet so stupid?” The guy with the gun said.
“The Archons don’t kill people, Ezra. They just make you miserable and drown you in fear and pain.” Spencer said.
“But I saw one kill my father.”
“Your father died of chronic ventricular arrhythmia coupled with excessive alcohol ingestion. The thing you saw was merely an emotional parasite, feeding off his negative emotions and influencing him to indulge on them.” Spencer said.
“Does this mean…”
“Yes. It also infected you that day. That’s why you saw it. It’s been with you ever since. The more you learn about it, the more you dread, the more you obsess, the more you lose… You were feeding it all along.” Spencer explained.
“And why do you think we tried to protect you, dumbass? If the knowledge was harmless, we wouldn’t be around breaking the law and breaking people’s necks to prevent it from spreading.” The guy with the weapon said.
“It’s not too late, Ezra. When your father was alive, there wasn’t much we could do, but now we have technology to make them go away. But it has a cost.” Spencer explained.
“What cost?”
“You will forget your father. You will forget most about the moon and astronomy. Probably the entirety of the last few months. And there are probable side effects, like sporadic short-term amnesia.” Spencer said.
“Or we can just fucking shoot you in the forehead right now to prevent the thing from infecting more people. Your choice.” The guy with the gun said. I just turned around and ran as fast as I can towards the window behind me. I jumped out of it, shattering the glass, and fell on the hard cold concrete of the parking lot. I tried to get up, my body was all cut from the glass, and I felt something warm on my back, even though it was raining.
“Are you stupid?!” I heard the guy with the gun shouting while he and the other agent descended the staircase that led to the parking lot. I finally got up, feeling cold from the rain, and tried to run, but could only limp. Yeah, jumping out of the window like I was in an 80s action movie wasn’t the best idea. I heard another click behind me, and fell to the floor. I could see the agents running towards me, smoke coming out of the gun. There seemed to be snakes around both of them, smiling witch their human faces and several sets of sharp fangs.
I looked towards the sky. Among the raining clouds, I could see the moon above me, full and blooming. Blinking. Blinking so much.

2023.06.02 19:57 MechaGoose Help self hosting a website with K3S and NGROK
Folks,
I have setup that I am trying to figure out the best way to configure.
I have a home K3S 4 node cluster I built. I frequently build small APIs for side projects that I build. I usually end up hosting them on a linode single node K8S instance, which costs about $40 a month and just seems excessive.
I like K8S stuff as I use it a lot at work and frequently grab configs and setups I’ve already built.
Is it possible to host some web apps/APIs on my K3S instance, and use something like ngrok (maybe within the nginx ingress controller or something?!) to access it from the outside world without port forwarding etc?
I do have a custom domain, so I can pay for the premium ngrok and use that if required, I’d like to get something working for free first if I could even if the domain is random. I could use DNS to maybe do a CNAME to the ngrok address?!
Has anyone done this? Is this the right place to ask? If so, does anyone have an example/starting point.
I’d just love to be able to access my K3S stuff from outside without port forwarding

Bonsoir,

2023.06.02 19:55 MatgamarraAlt3 Lunar Transient Phenomena
///11th of June, 2006 “Dad, the moon!” I shouted as I entered the garage. ///09th of November 2021 “And that’s why you decided to study astronomy? Really?” Melissa laughed. “Oh, come on, babe… Don’t make fun of my tragic past.” I said, finishing my waffles. She went to the fridges, grabbed the orange juice, and poured some in our cups. “Shall we toast?” She asked. “With orange juice? And what for?” “Your impending graduation. What else?” “Impending? Ha! I didn’t even start my capstone thesis.” “So, what will it be about? Venus, right? Or was it Mars?” “Nope. Too many people I know will already be working on planets like Venus and Mars. I thought about Neptune, but it’s too far away. So I figured, why not the Moon?” “Please, don’t tell me this is about your father.” “Mel, he wasn’t the best dad in the world. But he did left me his collection of vintage cars. This is what paid for my education.” “He didn’t left it to you, it was divided between you and your mother.” “Regardless, I feel like I owe him this. Apart from the cars, the moon was the only thing he loved.” “You owe him nothing, Ezra.” “I need to know what the blinking lights are! Lunar transient phenomena, it’s how they call them. There’s no scientific explanation to what they are.” “Just because there’s no known scientific explanation, it doesn’t mean one does not exist. And if there’s one, it’s certainly not creepy snake-man” She laughed. ///04th of September, 2022 The first thing you feel when you start seriously investigating the moon is how mysterious it is. The lights were caused by magnetism, or by gasses, or by asteroids, perspective… But mere hypothesis were not enough for me. ///17th of February, 2022 “So, what books will you be basing your capstone on?” My orienting professor asked. I could not see his face properly, we were talking through a videocall and he was not very tech savvy, so his eyes and nose were out of the frame. “Chris, I can only see your mouth!” I laughed. “Sorry…” He said, adjusting his camera. The framing was not perfect yet, but it was better. "Have you read the books I sent you?" "They... They were not what I was looking for." "What were you looking for, Ezra?" "I told you. Answers. I have been looking for answers, yet I only find questions." "We will only be able to find real answers when we actually set a lab on the moon. Until then, we will have to live with merely hypothesizing." "I know, but..." "Have you tried reading Kulikovsky?Or Hakan Kayal? Non-american studies in general." "Yes, professor Chris. But... All studies seem to contradict themselves. Some point to studies that I can’t find anywhere, like they don’t exist anymore. Like they were erased by someone…” “Some texts were never made digital or registered. It’s very unfortunate.” “Everyone tries to find a logical explanation... What if there isn't one?" "What is this truly about?" "What?" "It's just... You do know you can change your capstone thesis theme, right? Maybe an analysis of something more well-known could work better with your methodology." "Chris, I will not change my mind. We have discussed this before." "Well, well... I talked to one of my former colleagues, he is retired now, who also studied the moon, but his research was more focused on gravity. He told me there's a book called "A Study of the Moon with a New Lens" or something like that. Written by one Dr. Karl Hollfern in 1935." "That is way before LTP was even catalogued." "Catalogued, yes. Recorded? No. Hollfern studied extensevely the lunar mysteries. Unfortunately, he was executed by the Nazis because he opposed them. But his research lived on. My friend told me they have one of his books in the library. But it's in German." ///18th of February, 2022 I entered the library carrying a bag full of German grammar books and a dictionary. I would not let a little language barrier stop me from getting to the truth. “Hello, how can I help you?” The librarian asked, barely averting her eyes from her cellphone. “I’m actually looking for a book that could either be in the astronomy section or in the foreign titles section… Can you help me?” “Which book?” She was still looking at her phone, seemingly playing one of those generic casual mobile games. “It’s in German. Old, from the 1930s. Talks about studies of the moon made at the time.” “Unusual request, but ok…” She put her phone on the counter, and started typing on the computer. “Can’t find it. Do you have the author’s name?” “Karl Hollfern.” “Uncanny. It’s unlisted.” “What?” “We have it in the library, but it’s not available. We usually do this when books are being cleaned. Usually takes a couple of days… It says it won’t be listed until… Until 2100? “What? How does this makes sense?” “I don’t know. I’ve been working here for sixteen years, and have never seen something like this. Regardless, I can’t lend you the book. I can’t even let you access it in library grounds.” ///23rd of February, 2022 I was drinking my Starbucks cappuccino while trying to make myself comfortable on the shopping mall bench, to no avail. But the price is going to be different in your case.” “As in more expensive?” “No. Normally, I charge twenty five grand, or double If the job is hard. In your case, the job was ridiculously easy. I will be charging five grand only.” “Thanks! I’m transferring to your account right now…” I said as I typed on my phone. “The book is in your car.” “How did you… Oh, of course.” “Pleasure doing business with you.” He got up and left. I immediately went to my car. There it was, Eine Untersuchung des Mondes mit einer neuen Linse. ///28th of February, 2022 “Honey, are you still awake?” Melissa asked me. I was sitting on a pillow in the corner of the room, aggressively doing more and more Duolingo lessons. “I’m busy, Mel.” I said, without averting my eyes from the green owl. “Is this about that German book you have been taking everywhere?” “No…” I blatantly lied. “Honey, you’ve been up all night. It’s ten to six.” “What?” “You are obsessed with this shit, Ezra! Look at you! This is the third time I find you here studying German instead of sleeping!” “I’m sorry, but you do know I have a capstone thesis to finish, don’t you?!” I screamed back at her. “Oh. So this is what’s all about, right?” “Babe, it’s not like that…” Before I could say anything, she stormed out of the apartment. I stood there, frozen, for a minute or two, before I went back to my Duolingo. ///3rd of March, 2022 “Hello Ezra” Chris said, as I adjusted my camera. As usual, I couldn’t see his face properly. “Good evening, professor Chris.” “Ezra, are you okay? You look tired.” “I’m fine.” I said vehemently. “Ezra… I… I have bad news for you.” When he said that, I felt like a hand was smashing my heart. “The university has rejected your intended theme.” “W-what?” “You’ll have to pick something else. I’m sorry.” “What? Why?!” “Apparently there’s information about Lunar Transient Phenomena that is undisclosed to the general public. The feds were here yesterday, talked with the dean about it. Said that researching the LTP was considered meddling in national security affairs, and that all projects focusing on it were to be halted.” “Bullshit!” “I’m sorry. “What?” “This will not stop me.” I muttered, while ending the videocall. ///8th of March, 2022 After some turbulent days, I was finally making progress again. ///10th of March, 2022 I stumbled upon something I had previously overlooked. ///13th of March, 2022 The phone in the living room started ringing. I left it there, unwilling to stop reading the book and trying to translate the contents. The call went to voicemail, and then I heard the caller recording it: “Hey Ezra, I know you’re going through a bad time, but as your orienting professor, I care for you. You didn't show up for any of your tests. I know you seem to be focused on your research, but this isn't the-" I unplugged the damn thing. ///16th of March, 2022 I got evicted after not paying my rent. ///18th of March, 2022 There's an old website that I found while researching. ///20th of March, 2022 I woke up feeling like my head was spinning. I already put the pieces together." "Oh, interesting. What do you think you know, Thornbridge?" One of them mocked. "The Solar Plexus Clown Glider. I have studied them in depth. Or do you prefer to call them like the Gnostic theologians called them back in the day? Archons…” “Look what we have here, Spencer. Like father like son.” The guy with the gun scoffed. “I told you we should have just doped him and looked for the damn book while he slept. He is totally gone.” Spencer said. “I’m not crazy! The Archons are real! They killed my father! They kill people! And you, instead of trying to protect the people, just hide their existence, just lie, just lie and lie and lie!” “How can you be so smart yet so stupid?” The guy with the gun said. “The Archons don’t kill people, Ezra. They just make you miserable and drown you in fear and pain.” Spencer said. “But I saw one kill my father.” “Your father died of chronic ventricular arrhythmia coupled with excessive alcohol ingestion. The thing you saw was merely an emotional parasite, feeding off his negative emotions and influencing him to indulge on them.” Spencer said. “Does this mean…” “Yes. “What cost?” “You will forget your father. Blinking. Blinking so much…

2023.06.02 19:55 DreamSequence11 I’m so confused on the preapproval process and the factors
So for some background, I’m 33, single mom, looking to buy a house for just my daughter and I. My family put a trust fund for me that has matured, it’s an American Century mutual fund (it was at 370k at one point then lowest during Covid hit 248k, it’s slowly climbing back up it’s now just about 310k, obviously still dips and climbs due to the market.) anyways, I am in a lucky position to be able to put down a substantial down payment. I said I’d max like to put down 100k…. So I got a preapproval and was only approved for 75k…. I don’t understand why. Is it because of my down payment? My realtor said that gave me a wonderful advantage… is it because I barely made 35k last year because I had to quit one job to take care of my daughter? My credit is good, it’s like 725, and I only owe 2 grand on my car loan…. I’m starting to feel overwhelmed, uneducated and defeated. Should I just hold off until the mutual fund REALLY recovers? I’m staying with family right now and it’s tough but not horrible. Maybe I should just rent until the market is a bit better? The houses I’m looking at are anywhere from 230k to 275k… but with my loan only being 75k the guy at the bank said I’d have to put down the rest of the total cost. I’ve had friends who got loans for over 200k? Is it because they make more or applied with another person/significant other? I saw a house yesterday I loved and it already had offers and my realtor said I needed to make a decision by that evening which I said no I need to get more educated. Sorry if this was overwhelming I’m very confused

2023.06.02 19:51 JTCampb Keep the Lancaster bomber at the airport
Taken from the Canadian Aviation Museum (which I am member of) webpage:
The
Avro Lancaster was a British four-engine heavy bomber, designed and built by A.V. Roe and Company (Avro) for the Royal Air Force (RAF). It first saw active service with RAF Bomber Command in 1942 and, as the bombing offensive over Europe gathered momentum, it became the main heavy bomber used by the RAF, the RCAF, and squadrons from other Commonwealth and European countries serving within the RAF. The "Lanc", as it was affectionately known, ultimately became the most famous and most successful of the Second World War night bombers.
Of the many variants of this versatile aircraft that were used, only the Lancaster B Mark X, manufactured by Victory Aircraft in Malton, Ontario was produced in significant numbers in Canada. A total of 430 of this type were built. A total of 7,377 Lancasters of all marks were built throughout the duration of the war, each at a 1943 cost of £45-50,000. Today, only 17 remain in the world and only two of those are currently flying. Ten of the remaining Lancasters are Canadian-built Mark X models.
Our Lancaster, FM212, came off the assembly line in Malton shortly after the end of hostilities and never saw combat operations. In 1946, it was taken on charge by the RCAF and was modified for aerial and photo-reconnaissance work. It performed much of the mapping of northern Canada, amassing over 8000 hours of flight time, until 1962 when it was retired from service. It was purchased in 1964 by the City of Windsor and one year later placed on a pedestal in Jackson Park as a memorial to those who served and died during WWII.
In 2005, due to structural weakening by time and the elements, it was brought down from its pedestal and, in 2007, it made the journey through the streets of Windsor to No.7 E.F.T.S. where the
Canadian Aviation Museum is currently restoring it.
The restoration is approaching completion, but if it were to remain at the current hanger, the wings would not be able to be fully attached, as it would be too wide. Also.....they are hoping to be able to offer rides in the plane to taxi around the runways - it will never see flight again. The current hanger doors are not wide enough to allow for this. We cannot store this treasure outside again, as it was before. Also...this is 1 of only 17 remaining Lancaster's in the world, and only 2 are able to fly.
See the petition below to help build a new hanger for the Lancaster.
Also....please note there is an open house at the museum today and Saturday from 10AM - 3PM.

2023.06.02 19:50 ConsequencesFree How much would this unmanned convenience store cost to build and operate? Is $30k enough to build?
I am currently in Maryland, USA and I noticed that most liquor stores here and in DC close at 10pm even though their license allows for up to 2am. I would sell other things as well. So I thought up an automated convenience store that functions kind of like a vending machine… but today upon more research, I shouldn’t have been surprised to find out Chinese companies are already doing it but surprisingly they seem to be missing one key piece that mine addresses. Mixing both unmanned retail stores with the vending machine experience. For example an unmanned store in Korea allows people to walk inside the store and shop alone and the payment is automated… that concept requires a lot of faith whereas mine eliminates any possibility of shrinkage/theft.
You browse through the app/website, select your product and pay. You can have it delivered or pick it up. Let’s say you decide to pick it up. You drive up, park, and walk up to the small structure. So imagine a small detached structure similar to those some banks have to access ATMs. You scan your phone, input your code, and the door unlocks, you walk in and it locks. You step up to the glass screen and have the option to add more products to your order. The lobby is very small. If you need help, you can press help and a customer service representative will assist you via audio. There are cameras inside and outside the structure. For sensitive products such as alcohol, this representative will confirm your ID/age. You complete the checkout and your order is dispensed similar to a vending machine. You pick it up, unlock the door and leave.
So the whole building is very small, maybe the size of a US walk-in closet. Merchandise is stored underground, 1-2 stories, in box containers and brought up automatically. These structures would be either next to shopping centers/strip malls or next to neighborhoods. Ideally it can hold 100 different products, and about 3,000 items. The size of store could be bigger, like the size of a 7-11 or bigger. Also the number of products depends on item size and the structure size. There will be a person who loads inventory when trucks arrive, daily or weekly.
Business model
Either charge a $5.99 convenience fee per order or a $19.99 monthly membership fee.
$14.99 delivery fee. Most, if not all of that money goes to the driver.
Charge delivery service companies such as Uber and Doordash a fee to use the platform. $1,000 per month, plus 20% revenue split on whatever they charge customers for delivery.
Charge CPG companies $500 per item, per location slotting fees when legal, plus 10% sales fee. This is meant to keep prices down. So if product X sells for $100, we get $10, while the company gets $90.
My target customers could be anyone with weird work schedules, family’s, and people inconvenienced by early store closures. One example is, say you get off at midnight, almost every retail store will be closed. But you can do your shopping on your way out of work, and pick up your goods before heading home. Or you could place and order and pick it up early in the morning, say 5am. Another example is people who want to drink but don’t want to go out to bars now that liquor stores are closed. Or people needing over the counter medicine for things such as a cold that’s keeping you up, etc.
My big problem is I don’t know how much it would cost to build this out. Ideally, I would want it under $50,000, preferably closer to $30k all in. And yea I know the liquor license and having over the counter medication and maybe even weed would come with their own challenges, regulations, and headaches but I think the trade off is worth it. I can easily see a scenario where each location clears $1,000,000 annually with say a 70% margin.
What do you guys think?
